Chapter 7: The Secrets of the Janitors Closet.

Gabriella

I shot up in bed to the sound of loud rock music.

"Goodmorning, you three!" a male voice exclaimed from the doorway.

"Fuck you, Jackson!" Kris yelled, flinging a pillow at the tall figure that was standing in the doorway. He just chuckled, and walked across the room.

"Mom made breakfast for you three idiots," Jackson smirked, turning off the rock music that he was blasting on his phone.

"Okay, we're coming," Kris groaned.

"Also, here's your pillow back, Christina," he laughed, throwing the pillow straight at Lewis's head. I let out a choked laugh, when Lewis's head flung back and he hit the back of his head against the headboard of Kris's bed.

"Ow! What the hell, man?!" Lewis exclaimed.

"Sorry, dude. Bad throw," Jackson shrugged, walking to the doorframe. But, he stopped, leaning again. "Also didn't Mom tell you that your little guy friend isn't allowed in your bed?" Jackson asked, lips curving into a wicked smile. "Should I tell Mom about your little rule breaking?" he questioned.

"No! Jackson!" Kris yelled.

Jackson ran out of the room, and started yelling "mom!"

"Ugh, I hate him so much!" Kris exclaimed. I just laughed. Her house was always this crazy.

"Let's go eat," Lewis suggested.

"First good idea anyone has had all morning," I laughed. The three of us jumped out of Kris's bed, and walked down the stairs to the kitchen.

"Goodmorning!" Kris's Mom exclaimed.

"Morning," the three of us said in unison. We sat down at the table, and dug into the pancakes that were placed in the middle of the table.

Once we were finished eating, we waved goodbye to Kris's Mom and brother, and started walking down the sidewalk to the school.

"Did anyone catch the end of that movie?" Kris asked.

"Nope," Lewis and I replied in unison.

"Damn," she stated. "Guess I'll have to finish it tonight," she added.

"Yeah, same," Lewis agreed, as we walked through the front door of our high school. We walked down the hallways talking to each other about how we were confused about the movie, until I felt someone grab my arm.

"Come on," a male voice said, dragging me away from Kris, and Lewis. I snapped my head around to face who had grabbed me.

"Evan?" I gasped. He pulled me into the janitor closet, and shut the door behind us, almost instantly. Evan grabbed me by the shoulders and pushed me against the wall, pinning me.

"What are you doing to me?!" he demanded. I could feel his cool breath against my neck.

"W-what?" I stuttered, trying not to faint because of how close he was to me.

"You know what I'm talking about," he stated, anger filling his perfect voice. "Stop playing dumb," he added.

"I think you're going insane," I stated weakly. Evan dug his nails deeper into my shoulders.

"Please! Just tell me what you're doing to me!" Evan pleaded, his face inches away from my own. His forest green eyes showed intense anger that was directed right at me. I blushed madly at the proximity of him.

"E-Evan. I-I can't breathe," I stuttered quietly. Evan just cursed and released me. He backed up and leaned against the wall to the side of me. I put my hand on my throat, regaining my ability to breathe. "I don't know what you're talking about," I said when I could breathe again.

"I'm not an idiot," he spat, anger lacing his voice.

"Evan. Seriously! I have no idea what you're even on about!" I practically yelled.

"Are you here to spy on my friends and I?!" Evan questioned loudly. "What establishment are you from?!" he demanded answers that I couldn't give to him.

"What's an establishment?" I questioned.

"You know what an establishment is!" he spat. "Why are you taking my powers?!" Evan yelled.

"Powers?" I asked in confusion. I don't think I had ever been more confused or scared.

"Yes! How do I get them back?!" Evan demanded.

"Okay! What the fuck are you talking about?!" I yelled, finally having enough of the confusion. "What powers?! You are making no fucking sense!" I stated loudly, making Evan's face contort in understanding. But then his face turned to fear.

"You seriously don't know what I'm talking about?" Evan whispered.

"No!" I exclaimed. "Are you okay? Do you need to see a doctor?!" I asked angrily, hinting at the fact that he was probably insane.

"No," he whispered. "This is not good," Evan said so quietly that it was barely audible. "I did not just tell you that," he whimpered, looking anywhere but at me.

"Can you tell me what the hell you are even talking about," I said sharply. This was not a question, it was a demand.

Evan looked around hesitantly before speaking. "You wouldn't even believe me if I told you,"

"Try me," I spat, leaning against the wall, trying to make myself look intimidating, but I knew it wasn't working, since he was so much taller, and scarier than me.

"Gabriella-" he hesitated, cutting himself off. I felt my heart jump when he said my name. "There are a lot of things that you don't know," he stated, walking towards me again.

"Like what?" I questioned, my anger slowly fading into curiosity. He was now standing right in front of me, and the inability to breathe returned.

"I-" Evan started, his face now mere inches away from mine. "I can't tell you," he continued. I felt his breath waver against my neck.

"I think you should," I replied weakly. I was definitely going to faint if he stayed this close to me.

"I couldn't. Even if I wanted to," Evan told me. "I would get in trouble," he added, moving his face even closer to mine. I so badly wanted to close the space between our lips.

"When have you ever been scared of getting in trouble?" I gasped. "Mister, starting fights at school," I added, smiling slightly. He laughed softly.

"Okay, maybe I deserved that," he chuckled. Evan was then silent and his expression contorted into an indecisive one. As if he was trying to decide to say something or not. "I don't know what makes you so interesting to me," Evan whispered at last, tucking a piece of my wavy blonde hair behind my ear. I felt my cheeks get hot immediately.

"Likewise," I mumbled, hoping he wouldn't hear it. But, I knew he did because he smiled slightly.

"I'm somehow drawn to you," he added. He leaned his head even closer, and my breath caught in my throat. When his lips were about to reach mine, he snapped his head sideways, and practically threw himself backwards. "Oh god. Not good," he mumbled. "I'm sorry. But, I have to go," Evan explained, his words stumbling over each other. I just nodded, and he opened the door, and practically ran out of the janitor's closet. I just leaned further into the wall as I watched the door that he had just exited through.

I heard the bell, and I let muscle memory guide me to class, because I was completely numb from shock. I sat down in my seat next to Kris.

"Where did that psycho take you?" Kris questioned.

"The janitor's closet," I replied, numbly.

"Why?"

"He wanted to talk to me," I responded.

"About?" Kris asked, pressing for answers.

"I don't even know. He wasn't making any sense," I explained.

"He is a psycho," Kris shrugged, letting the subject drop, which I was very thankful for.

We sat in English class for two and a half hours, writing an essay on the importance of punctuation. I didn't even start, if I was being completely honest. All I could think about was what happened in the janitor's closet.

When the bell rang Kris jumped out of her seat, and pulled me up and ran down the hallway, pulling me with her. We ran down the hallways until we got into the cafeteria.

"Feller!" Kris called out to Lewis, dragging me up to our normal table. Lewis smiled, and we sat down next to him.

"Hey, guys," he smiled.

"Hey, idiot," Kris replied. They started talking about a show that they had watched, and I hadn't so I decided to go and get some lunch. Even though I wasn't hungry at all.

I grabbed a tray and made my way down the line, scooping up food that I knew I wouldn't eat. I then slowly made my way back to the table. I sat back down, and Kris grabbed a few of my fries as soon as I put my tray down. I blocked out what they were talking about and glanced around the cafeteria. I spotted Evan and his friends across the cafeteria, and I couldn't breathe again.

Nick was balancing a spoon on his forehead, Luke was making a disgusted face when he drank his milk, and Evan was laughing at Nick. There was also a girl sitting at their table, that I didn't know.

She had long dark brown hair, and icey eyes, and wore a wide smile, as she laughed when Evan snatched the spoon off of Nick's forehead, which caused Nick to hit Evan on the bicep. I wondered for a couple of seconds if this girl was Evan's girlfriend, but I quickly realized that this girl must have been Nick's sister. It only made sense. They look exactly the exact same. I sighed in relief, but this didn't completely make the thought disappear in the slightest.

As if he was reading my mind, Nick turned around in his seat to face me, and hit Evan on the bicep. Nick nodded in my direction, which caused Evan to turn around and make direct eye contact with me. I swung my head around to face my friends again.

"Gabriella, are you good?" Kris questioned.

"Yup," I replied, looking back at Evan through the corner of my eye for a second.

"Oh my god!" she exclaimed.

"What?" I asked.

"You like Evan!" Kris practically yelled.

"Kris! Shut up!" I hissed.

"You like him?" Lewis sneered. "You can do better than him," he added.

Kris nodded, but looked absolutely exhilarated. "I can't believe you like that psycho," she said.

"Agreed," Lewis added. I just rolled my eyes and decided to ignore their teasing. I could feel Evan's eyes boring into the back of my head so I decided I needed to leave. Right now. I stood up and started walking out of the cafeteria, even as my friends called my name. I couldn't stand being in the same room as him after what had happened in the janitor's closet. I was mad at him, shocked, and scared. I was already walking down the hallway away from the cafeteria, when I felt a hand grab my arm.

"Gabriella," a low male voice said.

"Go away, Evan," I replied, yanking my arm out of his hold, and started to walk away quickly. But, he easily kept up with me, because he had long legs. And I cursed that I was so short.

"Gabriella, listen-" he started. I made sure that I was looking at my shoes, while I walked.

"No. I don't want to know what you have to say," I replied, turning a corner sharply.

"Please-" Evan said.

"No, Evan," I replied angrily, finally looking up at the boy. I stopped dead in my tracks, and so did he. "Leave me alone," I stated, venom lacing my voice.

"I want to apologize," Evan told me.

"Okay, you apologized. Now get lost," I said in a very irritated voice. I turned around and started walking again. I heard his footsteps break into a jog.

"Gabriella, please, just listen to me," he said.

I stopped walking and swung my head in his direction. "Okay, fine. What do you need?" I asked sharply.

"I-I shouldn't have walked out like that," he started.

"Really?!" I empathized, sarcasm flooding my voice.

"I'm sorry," he continued. "But, I just can't do this," Evan added.

"Can't do what?" I questioned, but I actually knew exactly what he meant.

"This. What we have going on," he answered.

"What's wrong with this?" I asked, curiosity overwhelming my anger.

"Absolutely nothing," Evan replied, looking his forest green eyes into my chocolate brown ones. "But, I wouldn't be allowed," he added.

"Allowed?" I questioned, anger seeping into my voice again.

"Yes," Evan responded. "You don't understand. And, I know that probably makes you very angry," he stated.

"It does," I agreed. "Very much," I empathized. "You should explain it to me," I said, annoyance running through my voice.

"Not yet," he replied. "Maybe, someday," Evan added. "I'm sorry, Gabriella," he stated, earnestly.

"You're really annoying," I told him.

He frowned suddenly. "I am truly sorry. I wish I could tell you. I-" he cut himself off, when his phone rang. Evan put the phone up to his ear. "Luke?" he questioned. "I'm on the way," he said to his phone."I'm sorry, Gabriella. I have to go," he told me, after he hung up the phone.

"Of course you do," I sneered. Evan frowned at me, and looked indecisive, but ended up walking away anyway. I watched his graceful strides, as he walked quickly down the hallway.

The bell rang, and I angrily walked to my Math class. I sat down at my table for four, that I had all to myself except one girl named Cherry? The other boy and girl who sat at our table had gotten expelled last term because they had brought knives to school.

My Math teacher then went down the list of names for attendance, and I wasn't really listening until I heard the name Evan Richardson. I perked up, and looked around the room. But, he wasn't there. I sighed in defeat, and continued to stare into space. They went through attendance, and I had barely even heard my name when the teacher had called it out. The very last name on attendance also interested me.

"Nicholas Westfield," the teacher called out. I looked around the room for Nick as well, but he wasn't here either. I sighed, and gave up all hope that I would see Evan again today. I glared out the window, not paying attention to a word that my Math teacher was saying. I didn't care.

After a never ending class, it was finally time to go home. I sprung up, throwing my bag over my shoulder, and speed walked out of the school. I went to my truck, and waited for Kris and Lewis.

Lewis opened the passenger side door, and threw himself into the truck. "Why'd you leave at lunch?" he asked me.

I just sighed. "Evan needed to talk to me,"

"Oh," Lewis replied. "What did he say?" he asked.

"Nothing, really," I responded.

"Oh," he said, not pushing for answers, which I was quite thankful for. We sat in silence before the peace was interrupted.

"Yo, yo, yo!" Kris exclaimed, throwing open the back seat door.

"Ugh, Kris is here," Lewis groaned.

"Shut up, loser," Kris replied.

"Rude!" Lewis exclaimed, whipping his head around to face her. I just laughed and started the car and started driving to Kris's house.

"So," Kris sang. "What's up with you and this Evan guy?" she asked.

"Nothing," I replied.

"Doesn't look like that," Lewis said to me, raising his eyebrows.

"Guys, stop!" I exclaimed.

"You like him. You like him," Kris sang. I slammed on the brakes when I was at Kris's house.

"Shut up, and get out," I said, faking a laugh.

"Fine," she laughed, jumping out of my truck, and grabbing her backpack. "Bye losers!" Kris exclaimed.

"Bye," Lewis and I said in unison. Kris then slammed the truck door shut, and it was just Lewis and I now. I hit the gas and started towards Lewis's house.

Lewis sat in his seat being extremely quiet. I pulled up to his house, and he got out quickly.

"Thank you, Gabriella," he said.

"You're welcome," I replied. "See you tomorrow," I added.

"Yup, see you tomorrow," he said, closing the truck door.

I hit the gas and went right to my house. I parked my truck in the garage, and walked into my house.

"Dad! I'm home!" I called out. But, nobody answered. "Dad?" I questioned, getting a little bit more worried. I walked quickly into the living room. "Dad-" I asked again, but I cut myself off. "What the fuck?!" I exclaimed at who was sitting on my couch.
