Chapter 76 – The Aftermath
Everything was still dark, but little by little voices were heard. First they seemed far away, like in a distance place, but those voices became closer and closer.
Slowly opening her eyes, Ines sighed and tried to adapt to the light. At first she didn't know where she was, but then looking around with a frown, she noticed she was in room, not in her bedroom, but in a hospital bedroom. Looking to her left she saw an IV attached to her left hand. How did she end up there? She remembered being in Boba's ship before everything became dark all of the sudden.
Then she heard a male voice and looking to her left, she saw her father, who had his eyes wet, from crying, she was sure of it.
"Father," she tried to speak but she noticed her mouth was a little dry. Someone noticed that too cause she heard that person saying it would take a cup of water, while another was saying it would call the doctor.
"Hey sweetheart." Ken smiled running his right hand on his daughter head. "Welcome back."
"What happened?"
"You got injured. Luckily you guys were closer to the capital and Luke and the other were able to bring you to the hospital as quick as possible. And glad they did it."
At the sound of her husband's name, Ines felt like she was more focus.
"Luke? Where is he?" she asked.
"Hey, I'm here babe. Right here from day one." she heard and looking at her right, she saw the face of the man she loved for so long, and she relax after that.
"Hey. Are you okay?" she asked, making Luke giggled.
"Now I am," he said leaning down and kiss her forehead. "Do you need anything?"
"I'm thirsty," she said licking her lips.
"I'm here with water for you Ines," Gracy said give the cup to Luke.
"Do you want for us to raise the bed a little bit?" Ken asked, making Ines nod.
Pressing the button, the bed raise a bit so Ines could be more comfortable and be able to see the whole room easily. Being help by Luke, she took a few sips of water, which help a lot.
For that moment, Dan entered in the room with Dr. Lina, who smiled when saw Ines already more awake.
"Glad to see my favorite patient already awake. This is becoming a habit, it needs to stop," she said making Ines smile too.
"What happened? I remember not feeling very well and then everything went dark and next thing I wake up and I'm in a hospital room with an IV on my left hand."
"You got injured during the battle." Dr. Lina started to explaining, which made Ines frown and looked at Luke.
"Injured. I didn't felt any injure!"
"Well probably because of the adrenaline. Once everything ended and it started to fade away, that's when your body started to react to it."
"What kind of an injure?"
"You had a puncture in your spleen, causing a massive bleeding and that is why you lost your senses. Luckily you were closer to Coruscant and the fact that you and your husband share the same type of blood, which we were able to have a transfusion and we were able to save your spleen thanks to that."
Looking at Luke, Ines stroked his left cheek smiling.
"You need to stop giving your blood to us, mister!" she replied.
"Well you need to stop scaring me like that, how about that!" he winked at her and gave her kiss that he crave the moment she woke up.
"I love you and thank you!"
"I love you more and any time my love," he said kissing her forehead after that.
Ken looked at Dr. Lina.
"She is going to be okay now, right?"
"Yes she will. I will come later to change her bandage and see how it is healing and if everything is okay, maybe tomorrow afternoon I will send her home," she said replied looking at Ines.
"Can I see my kids?"
"Of course. Just be careful. See you later," Dr. Lina said and left the room.
"I will get them right now if you want," Gracy said right away.
"Please do, thank you. Where are they?"
"The kids are in my mother's apartment with Ahsoka and Ezra," Luke answered her, while Gracy left the room to get the kids.
"How long am I here?"
"48 hours."
"Are you saying you stayed here for 2 days, by my side?" she smiled.
"Well you know your husband by now my sweet daughter," Ken replied smiling.
"Yes I should," she replied, "And I'm so lucky for that."
"Just promise this is the last time," he giggled.
"I will try," she giggled back. "Where are everyone?"
"They're in Senate Room, giving their statements," Dan answered his sister. "And you know how long that will take."
"Whose statement are they listen now?"
"Yesterday they heard the Squadron statements, now it is the ones who were inside the ship." Dan informed her.
"What about you?"
"I will give mine after you are fully recovered. You come first and they already know that."
"I wonder how they will react with Boba's," Ines said with a little concerned on her voice.
"Leia is there with Han, so they will back up him and Fennec for sure," Luke replied, hoping for that to be true.
Senate Council:
"So are you telling to the Council that you shot Thrawn, killing him?" A Senator spoke, making Boba and Fennec glare at each other.
They were for the past hour, in the center of the council telling the same thing that everyone already told previous to them.
"For the million time, yes." Boba spoke.
"If you want we can drawn a picture for you, maybe you would understand faster," Fennec spoke, clearly tired of that council.
"I like her," Han whispered towards his wife, who glare are him with the type of look that it not the time for jokes.
"I don't appreciate jokes."
"Well maybe you should stop asking the same thing over and over again," she replied.
Seeing this could start a "fight", Leia stood up.
"With all due respect, but I already know that Thrawn is dead thanks to Boba Fett."
"That's what they said. Why we should believe two bounty hunters that we all know they worked for the Empire before," The senate continue to say.
"Because my brother confirmed that too. Or you are calling Luke Skywalker a liar. I'm pretty sure he would love to heard that to his face from you. Senator." she said staring at him which made Boba and Fennec smirked at that.
"And where is your brother?"
This time Mon Mothma looked at him.
"I already informed the Senate that Luke Skywalker is taking care of his wife, who almost died during this battle. He and so Ines will give their statement after she recovers. Understood?"
Han was tired of this and he also stood up.
"May I?" he asked and walked towards the center of the Council, before Leia could do anything.
"Please don't make things worse, babe!" she whispered making Ezra and Hera looked at her.
"General Solo, please speak," Admiral Ackbar spoke.
"I understand that it is difficult to believe that Boba Fett can be an ally, after being an Imperial worker," he started making Leia groan and shake her head. "Let's face it, from all of you, I'm the one who have more problems with him since the time the Empire was still ruling the galaxy. Remember? Being in carbonite in Jabba's Palace, until my wife and brother and sister in law, along side a great friend Lando Calrissian saved me. So believe me when I say, I understand your lack of trust," he said looking at Boba, before staring at the Council again. "But people change. I'm the proof of that. Before I met Luke and Ines, I was a smuggler. Not caring about the galaxy, not believing in force and mystical things, and now here I am, a General of the New Republic, being the husband and the brother in law of Jedi and seeing they doing things that I could never imagine it was possible."
"What are you saying, General," Mon Mothma said with a smile.
"I'm saying that if I change, so can Boba and Fennec. These two risk their lives to go to Geonosis to rescue my son and my niece. And that is something I will never forget and always be thankful to them. So if they say they did kill Thrawn and fought by our side, it is because they did." he finished staring that the Senator who stayed in silence.
"Well you didn't need to be worried, Senator," Hera replied. "That was pretty awesome."
"I think he deserves a reward later on," she winked making Hera giggled and Ezra opened his eyes, pretending he didn't listened that.
Then they heard a commotion outside, and they saw 3PO at the entrance.
"Excuse me I have a message to Senator Leia Organa Solo."
"Excuse me," Leia said standing up and walked towards the protocol droid.
After a few minutes, she returned to the Council and standing next to her husband, she looked at Mon Mothma and Admiral Ackbar.
"Excuse me, but my brother just send the information that my sister in law just woke up. So, if you don't mind can we delay this council for a while, cause we really want to see her."
"There is no need to delay. We already heard everything we need to know. This council is closed and I want a full report done about this Battle and put on the Senate Records." she said and standing up, she walked towards Leia and Han and looked at Boba and Fennec.
"Thank you for your services for the New Republic. You are welcome here any time you want."
"Thank you," Boba replied bowing his head slightly.
"Send kiss and hugs to Luke and especially to Ines from us."
"Of course," Leia said and they all left towards the Senate Hospital happy that this part was officially over.
Ines will okay and what a speech Han gave. What did you guys think?
