In the community of Pallet Town, a young raven-haired boy currently lounging around the infamous Professor Oak's corral. At his side was his trusty partner, Pikachu and looked interested in what the boy had in his hands.

In his hands was a letter that was addressed to him. The boy was reading it thoroughly, still not comprehending what or how he even got this letter. The letter was for the Tournament of Legends.

"Dear Reader of this Letter,

Congratulations! Due to your achievements and skills, you have been hand selected to take part of Tournament of Legends, a rare tournament that takes place. It is mandatory for all Gym Leaders, Elite Four, and Champions of the nine regions to attend. The tournament will be held in the Ransei region in two months in a half. Directions are on the back for if you decide to accept. You have two months and a half to prepare yourself for the competition. We cannot wait for you to come and show your skills.

-Mr. Goodshow"

The Tournament of Legends was a rumored event to be said for some of the greatest trainers as well as every Gym Leader, Elite 4, and Champion to this competition. And while the boy was up for the challenge… part of him wondered if he could try it.

"What do you think, Pikachu?" Ash Ketchum asked his best friend.

"Pika!" The Mouse Pokémon responded with determination.

"... You think we should do it?" the boy said.

"Pi!" The yellow mouse said in Pokéspeech as 'We can do this!'

"... But what if…" the Pallet Town native said with uncertainty in his voice.

"Pi?" Pikachu had never heard such uncertainty in his trainer's voice.

"It's just… I've heard about this tournament… but Pikachu, this is where the strongest trainers compete. Not like any league we have tried, tournament we've battled, this… this is rather bigger than you and me… it's like the World Coronation Series but way more intense. Everyone brings their best, almost no one holds back…"

Sure, he had his fair share of tournaments and leagues but this was much more unexpected. It was like the World Coronation except every Gym Leader and Elite 4 member would be there, Champions, even the Frontier Brains were possible. And no one would hold back. Sure he's experienced that before in his battles before but he would have the chance to battle any of them at any point. And all the possibilities that would originally make him excited made him nervous. He hadn't felt this nervous since his 1st league attempt.

Pikachu, for one, couldn't believe what his friend was saying. That he didn't feel qualified to take part in the biggest tournament in the world all because he doesn't think he can do it. And that made him upset. So he figured he could help snap his trainer out of his thoughts the only way possible.

Pikachu used Thunderbolt and shocked Ash at point-blank.

After taking the Electric-type move, Ash turned to his starter and yelled, "WHAT WAS THAT FOR?!"

"PIKA!"

Ash stayed silent, taking in what Pikachu 'said' to him. The Mouse Pokémon began to rant in Pokéspeech. While the human couldn't understand him, he got the gist of what his faithful partner said.

"You… you think we should compete?" Ash asked to which Pikachu nodded and pumped his fist in the air.

After a few seconds, Ash felt himself grow accomplished. He began to reminisce about his previous achievements over the years of his journey. Both personal and professional.

Winning the Orange League.

Defeating Gary, his longtime rival, during the Silver Conference.

Meeting nearly every legendary Pokémon, even defeating a few along the way.

Winning the Kanto Battle Frontier.

Defeating evil organizations.

Defeating Paul, one of his hardest rivals he had faced, during the Lily of the Valley League.

Being the first trainer to defeat Tobias' Darkrai and getting the mysterious trainer to reveal Latios.

Matching Diantha's Mega Gardevoir with Greninja.

Winning the 1st Manolo Conference and Alola's first ever Champion.

A plethora of others and his most recent: defeating Leon and becoming the World Monarch.

Those accomplishments made Ash's fears of competing disappear, returning him to his excited self. What was he being so mopey for? He WAS qualified to compete in this tournament. And he planned to give it his all.

"You're right, Pikachu," Ash said, his determined tone returning. Hearing that tone got Pikachu to smile.

"We've done some amazing stuff in our journey," Ash recalled all his experiences, "And we are going to compete in this tournament. Are you with me buddy?"

"PIKACHU!" The mouse responded with a pumped attitude.

"Great!" Ash flashed a thumbs up. "We are going to compete in the World Tournament of Legends! And we are going to win!"

"Glad to see you are in a better mood," Professor Oak said, coming over.

"Oh, Professor," Ash said before the regional professor held up his hand, prompting him to stop.

"Don't worry, Ash," Oak began, "I figured you would probably think you weren't qualified but it seems Pikachu beat me to encourage you."

"Yeah," Ash sheepishly laughed.

"So the World Tournament of Legends? Looks like Goodshow is at his old habits again," the professor laughed to himself.

"What do you mean?" the boy questioned.

"Well, the World Tournament is a rare tournament. It rarely occurs but it seems Charles decided to pick this year to do so."

"Wow…" Ash had only heard rumors of this tournament and now he was about to compete in it.

"Which is why I have decided to give you a few suggestions in your training," Oak stated.

"Really?"

Oak nodded, "Yes, my boy. You are an exceptional trainer but there is always room for improvement. For example, your Pokémon's moves."

"What about them?"

"Well, while it is a good idea for having same-type moves, some diversity could be beneficial. I recall that Pikachu here could learn a few moves for type-disadvantage moves like Grass Knot for dealing with Ground and Rock types, Signal Beam for Psychic and Dark types, and even Dig. You can look these potential moves up in your Pokédex."

Hearing those moves got Ash thinking. That wasn't a bad idea. Heck, Iron Tail was his only type disadvantage move but that was for countering Rock-types since Hoenn. So he was open for more suggestions on countering type disadvantages.

"I would also recommend teaching some defensive moves. I know that all-out offense is how you battle but some of your Pokémon are better at defense than offense or speed," Oak mentioned.

Ash made note of that one. He hardly used defensive moves but some of his previous Pokémon like Torterra and Boldore may benefit from those kind of moves since they lacked speed.

"Another suggestion is catching more Pokémon," Oak instructed.

"More?" Ash asked. While he was onboard with catching new members, he wanted to have a full team of 6 to make sure everyone gets their training.

"Yes, my boy. While it's not a bad idea having a team of six for the most part, catching more would give you a greater diversity. Plus, your older Pokémon could help with teaching your newer ones. I should also mention potentially trading your Tauros since I, no offense, doubt you would ever use all thirty of them."

Ash mauled what the professor had said all together. Granted it made sense. He figured that maybe some Pokémon at the ranch would be great for tutoring one another. He began to make mental images of certain Pokémon working together like Corphish and Kingler, Buizel with Oshawott and Palpitoad, Quilava and Pignite, and so on.

But hearing the idea of trading the Tauros made him realize that could be beneficial for him. He had only used the leader a few times: the Orange League, Silver Conference, and Battle Frontier. He kept kicking himself for not doing it sooner like at the trading festival in Johto. He had declined due to not thinking in advance of the many offers he could get. Since Professor Oak brought up the idea, he came with the terms that it might be for the best.

"And my last suggestion is obtaining items," Oak ended.

"Items?" Ash repeated.

"Yes, my boy. Along with others. Take your Squirtle for example. He has the Black Glasses which boost Dark-type attacks. However, giving the glasses to a Pokémon like Krookodile would be better. Your Z-Ring, Z-Crystals, Keystone, and Dynamax Band are permitted for the tournament so maybe find a few more of those in due time."

Again, Ash thought about it. He had rarely seen items used in battles and he always thought that certain Pokémon just had taste in random clothing items. But maybe this might be a good idea. However, there is one problem.

"How do I find Mega Stones?" While Ash did enjoy Lucario's Mega Evolution, he sometimes wondered what if his other Pokémon had access to Mega Evolution.

Oak scratched his chin in thought before answering, "I'm not entirely sure on that matter. I may have to ask Augustine about that since he's more familiar with Mega Evolution."

Ash nodded at the claim. Maybe even Alain could help him find a few but he doubted that since he wasn't sure where he was now. As for Z-Crystals, he knows they are scattered all over Alola so that would be more difficult. And he knew he could Dynamax all his Pokémon while only some had Gigantamax forms.

"Well, that's all of my suggestions for now," Oak said, "You are welcome to use my corral as a training ground for the time being. You do after all have two months and a half before the tournament if I am correct."

Ash nodded before grinning alongside his partner. He was determined to win this tournament. It might be different from his previous league attempts but he wanted the challenge.

Tomorrow, he and his team will begin training.

A/N:New Pokémon story. Thought I would try a tournament story. Most likely a combination of my "Tricks of the Trade," "To Be A Pokémon Master," and "Leagues Rewritten" stories.

11/29: Revised this chapter with Ash's World Monarch status.
