The Goa'uld wanted to destroy Atlantis, either to keep the Wraith out of their territory or because they couldn't have Atlantis and its wealth of technology for themselves. They'd figured out Caldwell was the Goa'uld and Sheppard, Ronan and Xander were confronting him. Which is where things went very, very wrong or seem to for the universe's local butt monkey.
"Captain Harris." The dual tones of the Goa'uld said. "I have heard that you are stronger then a normal human and heal a great deal more quickly. A host I do not need to use the sarcophagus for, would be a great boon." And it snapped out of Caldwell's neck and leaped for Xander. Xander had better then average reflexes and managed to grab it as it entered his mouth, his teeth instinctively attempting to close, in an effort to keep it out, but the Goa'uld's body was covered in Caldwell's blood and too slick to get a grip on and moved past Xander's teeth and burrowed into the back of his throat. His body immediately began to convulse.
"I'm thinking that's not good." Sheppard said, sarcastically. "You grab Caldwell, maybe Beckett can save him, have Teyla come in and guard us, while I get Harris to the infirmary."
Ronan just bent over and picked up Caldwell, delivering the message to Teyla, where she was standing guard outside the door with Ronan's energy pistol, no one having wanted it anywhere near the Goa'uld.
Sheppard carefully picked Xander up, keeping an eye out for the Goa'uld trying the same thing on him. The convulsions were so bad, he had trouble getting a grip on Xander's body, but managed to do so and got him up and walking backwards, with his arms wrapped around Xander front to back, holding Xander's arms in place, moved thru the door. Teyla was watching with an anxious expression on her own face. Both Xander and Elizabeth had told AG 1 of their own experiences dealing with the Goa'uld and Xander had told them something of his Halloween experience and having Kowalski's perspective of his death. She was very worried for her teammate and friend and knew Cordelia would be out of her mind with worry herself, when she found out. She and Elizabeth were currently in Elizabeth's office, waiting for word on how the confrontation had gone. No one had expected the Goa'uld to try to take over Xander.
They arrived in the infirmary and Carson immediately sent Caldwell for surgery, they might be able to save him, while he ordered a scan of Xander's body. What he found was shocking. There seemed to be a war going on in Xander's body. The Goa'uld was convulsing as well. Carson immediately drew several vials of blood and began tests to figure out what was going on.
Sheppard meanwhile, went to Elizabeth's office to inform her and Cordelia what had happened. Cordelia immediately raced for the infirmary and began an anxious vigil. All the while wondering, what was going on in Xander's body?
What was going on in his mind, might actually be more interesting through. An avatar of Caldwell appeared in a dark area with a spotlight shining on him. He could hear noises in the dark.
"Who are you?! How dare you do this to me?! I am a god!"
"If you are a god, then get yourself out of this mess you're in." A voice boomed. "Instead of thinking you can intimidate us into stopping."
"Us who? Who are you?"
"You're not the first to take a tour of the kid's mind." The booming voice said. "You can call us remnants of the last attempts. Kid's built himself a resistance to invasion. That's why you're in that little circle of light. That's the only part of his mind you've managed to take over. The rest is still his. We will speak for him, while he does battle with you elsewhere."
"He cannot resist me! I am a god! I will win!"
"You're no more a god, then any of the rest of us are. And we are simply remnants. There is even a remnant of another of your kind here. It too, joins with us in resisting. If it can not have this host, then neither shall you."
The Goa'uld felt a shiver of fear when a strange laugh was heard.
"What is that?" He called out.
"A hyena, a predator. Kid gets his hunting instincts from him." The voice boomed.
A weird bubbly laugh could be heard.
"And that?" The Goa'uld asked, becoming even more anxious and trying not to show it.
"Fish boy. He likes to play games with the kid's pheromones. Makes interested ladies bold. Kid doesn't know why, since he's not the one interested."
"You?"
"Major Charles Kowalski, U. S. Force. I died with one of you in my head. Teal'C saved my world by killing me and that thing. I died grateful to him."
"Teal'C! The Shol'va!"
"Teal'C the hero. Teal'C the friend. Teal'C the mentor. Teal'C the one who started the rebellion. He will be remembered, while you are forgotten, both by the galaxy and by history. Not even the kid will remember what you called yourself." The voice boomed out. "He certainly doesn't remember what the other one called himself."
"I will win! I am a god!" The Goa'uld screamed as it died.
"No, you are not. And neither are any of your kind. And neither are we." The voice boomed. "Idiot, you never realized. We were the distraction. The kid's body destroyed you."
