Rise! Lightning Voltcondor!
If there was one thing that Ruby loved, it was dueling. Ruby loved not only the game itself, but the artwork displayed on the cards and the way it can be used to help people. Had her father not introduced her to the game at a young age, she might not have gotten over her mother's disappearance. Which is why when she found multiple Duel Monsters holding up a Dust Shop she likes to frequent, she felt a fire burning inside her.
Ruby saw monsters of all sorts of shapes and sizes crawling around "From Dust 'Till Dawn," each one growling loudly. Ruby narrowed her eyes as she walked closer to the monsters. Her hand was already reaching for the deck box strapped to her waist as she walked toward the small shop.
"Hey," Ruby turned around when somebody tapped on her shoulder. Looking up, she saw a man with a black suit and red sunglasses glaring down at her, a green dragon standing beside him. "Get lost kid. This is grown-up business."
Ruby tilted her head and narrowed her eyes at the man. Even as the dragon loomed closer and growled, she didn't move an inch.
"What sort of business?" Ruby asked, something which caused the man to growl.
"You've got a death wish or something?" The gangster asked, the dragon stepping forward and growling a bit more. "Alright, you've pissed me off. Give me your cards and your money!" Ruby narrowed her eyes as she took out her deck and slotted it into her Duel Disk.
"Alright…" Ruby said with a smirk.
Roman sighed as one of the men brought back another chest filled with Dust. He opened the case, and frowned when he saw only a paltry amount of crystals inside.
"Is this it? You made sure to check the back?" Roman asked. The gangster holding a gun to the shopkeeper pushed his gun towards the man's head, causing him to panic and sweat.
"Yep, that's everything," Another gangster grumbled off to the side. "Let's take his cash! It's not like that asshole–!" He started to say, before Roman smacked him in the head.
"I'd rather not be burnt to a crisp today. Let's just take all of this and call it a day." Roman grumbled. He took out a lien card from his pocket and slapped it on the shopkeepers desk before walking away. "Have a nice day."
The gun-wielder stored his gun away, and the other helped him drag the case away. Roman sighed and took a light and cigarette, hoping that the nicotine would be enough to ease his headache. "What a day…" he groaned as he walked out the store…
…and onto the middle of the warzone.
Roman took a long drag on his cigarette as two of his men were sent flying, cards thrown from their Duel Disks, right into the windows of the store. As the glass shattered, she glared at the small girl with a black dress and wickedly sharp Duel Disk. Roman stared blankly at her as a large condor shrieked and flew right at him. He rolled his eyes and activated his own Duel Disk, activating the Forced Duel program that his new employer hooked him up with
The bird of prey shrieked as it disappeared, and Ruby frowned as her deck automatically shuffled itself and ejected four cards into her hand.
"Sorry, Red. I've got no patience for kids that try to play hero," Roman drawled as a hard light dome appeared over the two. Immediately, his men ran towards the designated pickup spot. "You can just surrender and be on your merry way, otherwise, you'll be on the first ambulance to the hospital."
"No way!" Ruby said immediately, stomping her foot on the ground. Roman sighed and drew his own cards as well.
"Fine… Hopefully, it'll be your funeral," Roman growled as the duel began.
Ruby Rose (4000 LP)
vs
Roman Torchwick (4000 LP)
"I draw! I summon Faith Bird and Bombing Bird!" Ruby began. On her field, a green-feathered winged beast (1500 ATK) and a black crow with a jetpack holding a bomb flew out of nowhere (1300 ATK), both letting out cries as they perched on the floor. "I tribute Bombing Bird to summon Blue Falcon Tengu!" The crow shimmered out of existence, and was replaced by a blue monk-like creature with blue feathers and black wings (1800 ATK). "I set one card and end my turn!"
Roman examined her field briefly, before turning to look at his own hand. Chances are, that card in her hand is a monster that she wants to hold onto for a bit longer. Regarding the face-down; Roman has no removal options in his hand, so he'll just have to hope that he can push through disruption.
"I draw," Roman drawled. "I summon Crafter Drone, and discard one Machine card from my hand to activate its effect to draw one card." In front of the gangster, a yellow and blue machine with multiple tools strapped to its arms appeared (1000 ATK). As it was summoned, it slashed the drill pit in front of itself, which allowed Roman to draw again.
"I summon Cyber Soldier of Darkworld, then tribute both Crafter Drone and Cyber Soldier for Ground Cerberus!" The ground in front of him cracked, allowing a large wheeled vehicle with three dog-heads with drills inside their mouths (2400 ATK). "Then, I summon Ground Attacker Bugroth, and activate Ground Cerberus' effect! You take 300 damage for each Earth Machine monster on my field!"
Ruby grit her teeth as Ground Cerberus let out an enraged cry. It fired off two drills from its mouths; both of them crashed into the ground and exploded. Ruby let out a grunt as the explosion knocked her back and slammed her into the hard-light field. Roman scowled as she got up almost immediately.
Ruby: 3400 LP
"I tribute Bugroth in order to summon Eldign Patrol Ship!" The machine shimmered away, and was replaced by a sleek looking carrier with multiple search lights and cannons appeared on the field (1700 ATK). "Patrol Ship's effect activates. By placing a Normal Monster–like my Cyber Soldier–on the bottom of my deck, I can look at your face-down card." The sirens on the ship blared and lights were pointed towards Ruby's card. She let out a half-hearted giggle as it revealed her trap Counter Pigeons.
"I attack Blue Falcon Tengu with Ground Cerberus!" Roman exclaimed; the giant machine howled as it drove towards her monster.
"I activate Counter Pigeons! When you declare an attack against an Attack position Winged Beast monster, that monster loses ATK points equal to the level of the defending monster x100!" Ruby's card flipped itself face up, projecting a black top hat that sent pigeons flying towards Ground Cerberus (2400 - 600 = 1900). The metallic monster shrieked and waved its heads, knocking the birds away as it slammed one of its drilled mouths into Blue Tengu's chest.(1900 - 1800 = 100).
Ruby: 3300 LP
"Eldign Patrol Ship attacks Faith Bird!" The carrier ships' searchlights were all aimed at the green bird as the cannons fired. The shell pierced through the monster's body and caused it to explode (1700 - 1500 = 200)
Ruby: 3100 LP
"I end my turn," Roman said as Ruby picked herself back up.
"Alright then… I draw!" Ruby exclaimed, taking the top 4 cards of her deck and adding them to her hand. "I summon Luminous Parrot!" The area in front of her shined, and out came a small green bird with a blue neckpiece, white wings, and a searchlight on its head (1200 ATK). "Since you control at least 2 monsters, Luminous Parrot can send the top card of my deck to the graveyard in order to turn Ground Cerberus into a LIGHT monster!" The parrot chirped as it aimed its light at the machine, causing its eyes to glow brighter.
"Next, I summon Mad Rare Aquila!" Ruby said. Next to Luminous Parrot, a black-haired woman wearing a black and white suit appeared, though her limbs were replaced by the wings and legs of an eagle (1300 ATK). "Since you control 2 monsters, I can send the top card of my deck to the graveyard so that she can attack twice!" Roman scoffed. "But that's not all! Since you control a Level 6 Effect Monster, I can destroy it, then my Aquila gains 600 ATK points 'till the end of the turn!" Roman groaned.
The bird woman threw back her winds and thrusted them forwards, creating a large gust of wind that destroyed Roman's Patrol Ship. Afterwards, Aquila shrieked as her ATK was boosted significantly (1300 + 600 = 1900).
"Afterwards, I summon Tyhone!"
And she's still going… Roman groaned to himself. Another monster appeared, though this one was a strange, spherical thing with an elongated, cannon-like mouth and wings on the top of its head (1200 ATK). "I tribute my Luminous Parrot and Tyhone in order to summon Darkness Crested Hawk!" The two monsters disappeared, and were replaced by a large bird of prey with darkened feathers, and wearing bits and pieces of gold and other jewels on its chest, head, and wings (2100 ATK).
"Since you control a Light Monster, Darkness Crested Hawk allows me to choose 1 Winged Beast Monster to gain 1000 ATK until the end of the turn! I chose Mad Rare Aquila!" Roman cursed as Darkness Crested Hawk created a black hole in front of it, draining the light from Ground Cerberus. Aquila let out another shriek as her strength was raised even further (1900 + 1000 = 2900).
"Mad Rare Aquila attacks Ground Cerberus!" Ruby shouted, waving her hands forward as the winged woman launched itself at the three-headed machine.
"I activate Battle Demotion! By paying 600 LP, I can switch your feathered freak into defense mode!" Roman quickly shouted. And electrical shock surged through his body, and a flurry of business cards flew from the card and slammed into Aquila. She let out a shriek as she dropped to the ground and skidded across the floor.

Ruby clicked her tongue in annoyance. "I end my turn," She stated, glaring at Roman.
"Fine, I draw!" Roman exclaimed, replenishing his hand instantly. He glanced at the first card he drew, and smiled.
"Let's get on with the show then. I'll start by summoning another Crafter Drone! I'm sure I don't need to explain his shtick again," Roman said in a cocky voice as he discarded one card and drew another. He smirked as he saw his card. "I then tribute my Crafter Drone to bring out my Worker Warrior - Syndicate Security!" He exclaimed, the monster shimmering away to be replaced by a suit wearing robot carrying a large gun (1000 ATK). "Next, I summon my Worker Warrior - Overhauled Organizer!" Next to his Guard, a red humanoid robot with a black tie appeared (600 ATK). "Then, I activate my Organizer's effect! By discarding my Business Card Barrage, I can special summon this monster from my hand!" Roman exclaimed.
Overhauled Organizer started twitching and sparking erratically as it let out dangerous amounts of electricity. It fell to its knees and supported itself with its elbows as it banged its head on the pavement, which caused the street to crack. Soon, it lurched upwards as a beam of lightning flew into the sky, creating a large, dark purple portal. From that portal, an enormous and bulky robot flew down, hovering in the sky with leg-shaped turbines that emitted green exhaust. Ruby craned her neck upwards to see a golden head with small green eyes looking down at her. The monster clenched its fists and let out a sharp mechanical cry that forced its subordinates to kneel.

"Security's effect activates! By paying 600 LP, I can set Business Card Barrage from my graveyard onto my field, which I activate immediately!" Roman explained, getting his card from his graveyard and slapping it onto his Spell/Trap Zone.
Roman: 2800 LP
"Since I control Sinister CEO, I can destroy your Darkness Crested Hawk!" Sinister CEO let out a loud groan as it pointed its hands and the eagle. Multiple business cards went flying from its fingers as they sliced the bird to bits. "Then, I activate my CEO's effect! By discarding my Bad Boss, I can set Battle Demotion back onto my field!"
"Oh no…" Ruby mumbled as Roman entered the Battle Phase.
"Sinister CEO attacks your Face-Down Aquila!" Ruby covered her face with her arms as the massive robot threw its fist down, crushing her only monster in one blow. "Now, Security and Organizer attack you directly!" Ruby eyes went wide as the red robot suddenly rushed up to her and punched her in the stomach. The air left her lungs as she staggered backwards, trying to keep her footing as she stumbled.

Before she could recover, Security aimed its gun and fired. Ruby flew back as the business card crashed into her forehead, causing her to bounce off the wall and land face first on the floor.

As she struggled to push herself up, she could hear Roman clapping condescendingly at her. She struggled to her feet, her stance shaky as Roman's monsters glowered at her.
"Feel like giving up now?" Roman asked. Ruby shook her head as she placed her hand on the top of her deck.
"Not a chance," Ruby said with a wide grin as she drew 4 cards. She looked at her hand, and smiled.
"I summon… Spark Voltegg!" Ruby exclaimed, a black egg with a yellow core and red gem appeared on her field, sparking yellow electricity as it appeared (0 ATK). "By shuffling Luminous Parrot back into my Deck, Spark Voltegg can now be used as two tributes for the Tribute Summon! Afterwards, I can add this card from my deck to my hand, and I'll think I'll summon it right now!" Ruby exclaimed.
As soon as she added her card, Voltegg began to crack. Electricity streamed from the crevices until it completely consumed the egg, at which point it started to float in the air. From the bottom of the electricity orb, two hooked feet burst free, followed by a pair of mechanical wings that sprouted from the side. The rest of the lightning ball began to unfold, forming a large and mechanical bird of prey with large cannons attached to its side. The monster let out a loud screech as it swooped down. Roman recognized it as the monster that tried to attack him.
Lightning Voltcondor

[Winged Beast / Effect]
"Voltcondor's effect activates! By sending one monster from my hand to the Graveyard, I can make all monsters on your field with the same attribute lose ATK points equal to that monster's level x300! The monster I send is Lightning Volteagle: a Level 7 monster. That means all monsters you control lose 2100 ATK!"
"2100!?" Roman shouted. He looked up to see another, much larger mechanical bird take shape over Voltcondor. The monster dissolved and went towards the back of Ruby's, allowing its cannon's to take in the monster's energy. With a loud shriek, Voltcondor fired two massive beams from weapons, which made the Worker Warrior's short circuit and caused Sinister CEO to fall to the ground. Roman sputtered as a large cloud of dust covered him in soot. (Overhauled Organizer: 0 ATK, Syndicate Security: 0 ATK, Sinister CEO: 300 ATK).
"Nice trick, but it's still not enough to beat me!" Roman said cockily, taking off his hat to brush the dust away. "I still have my face-down, and Voltcondor can only attack once!"
"There won't be a next turn!" Ruby exclaimed, grabbing the remaining two cards in her hand. "I summon Flash Voltchick!" Next to Voltcondor, a younger version of the monster appeared, with smaller canons and made out of silver metal, rather than gold (1200 ATK). "And then, I tribute my Voltchick for this monster!"
Voltchick shimmered away. Around the wind began to pick up, and clouds began to circle the battlefield. A small tornado appeared next to Voltcondor, and a light managed to shine past the spiraling clouds. With a powerful roar, the tornado parted and the fierce wings calmed down, revealing a monster dressed in green armor and wearing a hawk shaped helmet. Its flowing cape moved with a wind as the monster raised its head to the sky and let out an earth-shattering roar.
Raiza the Storm Monarch
[LEGEND / WIND]
[Level 6 / 2400 ATK / 1000 DEF]
[Winged Beast / Effect]
"A LEGEND card…" Roman muttered, his green eyes blown wide as Raiza loomed over him. Looking past her two monsters, he could see Ruby kneeling on the floor, her brow covered and face covered in sweat from the amount of energy it took to summon her LEGEND monster. "How in the hell did a brat like you get a LEGEND!?" Roman shouted, stomping on the ground as Ruby struggled to her feet.
She didn't answer; instead, she smirked and waved one arm forward. "Raiza's effect activates… On the turn its tribute summoned, I can return one on the field to the top of its owner's deck!"
"...Of course it can," Roman muttered. With a roar, Raiza lifted one hand and snapped its fingers. Immediately, a tornado appeared over Roman's Battle Demotion, causing the hard-light projection to shatter. The card immediately flew from his Spell/Trap Zone onto the top of his deck, without him needing to take it out of the slot himself.
"Now that that's done… Raiza the Storm Monarch attacks Worker Warrior - Syndicate Security!" The LEGEND monster lunged forwards as the winds propelled. Swirling clouds covered Raiza's hand as it struck Syndicate Security with a powerful punch.
Roman: 400 LP
"Lightning Voltcondor! Attack Overhauled Organizer!" Ruby shouted. "Lightspeed of Brilliant Laser!"
Voltcondor howled as it flew upwards, the cannon's attached to its sides beginning to spark dangerously. As it reached the apex of its height, the monster swooped back down and screeched as two golden lasers flew from its weapons, aimed directly at Roman. He crossed his arms in front of his face in a futile attempt to protect himself.
However, before the attack could reach him, both of their Duel Disks began sparking. Ruby yelped as her monster's began glitching and fizzling out of existence; the projectors of her Duel Disk shut off, leaving only Raiza on the field.
As soon as he realized what was going on, Roman pointed his cane at her and fired. Ruby gasped and hid behind her LEGEND monster. With a flick of its arm, a wall of wind appeared between them, knocking the bullet into the sky. Ruby peaked over her monster's broad shoulders to see Roman disappearing into a shadowy alleyway.
"Shoot!" Ruby cursed. She grabbed Voltcondor's card and repeatedly placed it back on the card read. Her Duel Disk sputtered; the hard-light projection appeared briefly, but it always faded away before her monster could take form. She looked back at Roman to see him climbing onto a nearby building.
"Raiza, up!" Ruby ordered, gripping onto her monster's arm tightly. With a nod, the LEGEND monster flew towards the building and landed with a thud. Roman whirled around as the monster landed and scowled.
"Little punk…!" Roman scowled.
Raiza lunged at Roman, clawed gauntlets outstretched and poised to strike. Roman managed to dodge as the LEGEND'S hand came crashing down, but only by a hair's breadth. He swung his cane around, batting away Raiza's other hand as it tried to swipe at him. He then thrusted forwards, hitting the hook of his cane against the monster's helmet and knocking it back slightly. He pointed his cane to fire at Ruby, only to see her right in front of him.
Roman swung haphazardly, but Ruby dropped to the ground and swung her feet, tripping Roman up and making him fall to the ground. Roman fell on his shoulder and quickly rolled away, avoiding what would've been a painful kick to the head. He twirled her cane in his arms and hooked it around Ruby's foot; he pulled, and the girl fell to the ground head fast, causing her LEGEND monster to waver.
Roman reached for his deck and slapped Worker Warrior - Bad Boss onto the card reader. A suited robot with large yellow horns appeared. Bad Boss threw a punch at Ruby, but its attack was caught by the unstable Raiza the Storm Monarch. The monsters phased in and out of existence, allowing Bad Boss to continue its charge. Ruby dizzily moved out of the way, her red aura tanking a glancing blow from Bad Boss, but still causing it to spark dangerously.
Gritting her teeth, Ruby bashed her shoulder into Bad Boss' chest, knocking it off balance for a brief moment. In that brief window of opportunity, Raiza lunged from behind and tore its fist through Bad Boss' torso. The Storm Monarch quickly spun around and tried to scratch at Roman. However, he quickly ducked under the attack, and smashed his cane against Raiza's helmet, which caused the monster to finally disappear from reality.
Ruby breathing paused as Roman once again aimed his cane at her. Everything went white as he pressed the trigger.
Another day, another police report was slapped onto Ozpin's desk.
With a tired look, the Headmaster of Beacon looked up at his deputy headmaster, Glynda.
"Glynda… I'm not the chief of police," Ozpin muttered. In one hand he had a pen. He, alongside the other professor, were getting ready to accept their newest batch of students. For the past three days and nights, they had been going over the applicants' entrance exams and decklists, making corrections whenever necessary.
"I am aware," Glynda said, handing the wizened headmaster another mug of coffee, "but I believe that you might be interested in this case." With a sigh, Ozpin grabbed the folder and flipped through the pages, taking a sip of his coffee as he did so.
"Okay, let's see what we have here… Dust store robbery performed by Roman Torchwick. He stole a grand total of 20,000 Lien's worth of Dust. In addition, the store, the street it was located on, and a nearby street received damages that will cost up to 15,000,000 Lien to repair. Damages are suspected to be caused by a duel…?" Ozpin read quickly, practically skimming through the pages until it was near the end.
"Multiple suspects apprehended and currently in police custody, found strewn around the street, and one on the damaged rooftop. Currently being treated for aura exhaustion before being taken in for questioning…" Ozpin's eyes narrowed as he read the next paragraph of the support. " One suspect's Deck contains two LEGENDS…"
Soon after, he got up from his seat. He walked towards the back of his office and unlocked the safe that was hidden away, grabbing two decks from it. One of them was his standard, publicly available Rush Duels deck. The other was his much older, much more powerful Master Rules deck. Despite not having used them for years, he could still feel the power from his cards.
"What are you doing…?" Glynda asked, folding her arms over her chest as Ozpin began to walk out of the room.
"I need to talk to her," Ozpin replied instantly as he walked out the door. "We are desperately running out allies. Arc and Nikkos may be skilled duelists in their own right, but alone, they will not be able to sway the tide of this unending war…" He said ominously. Glynda glared at the centuries old wizard as he walked out of the room.
[A/N: If anybody can figure out what Ruby's second legend card is, I will give you one cent.]
