Hello! I just wanted to state a few things before you start reading. First, I just want to say, I didn't really have an idea for the name, (this was a request) so the name may or may not be important. Secondly, this story is gonna be related to the manga, but things will be different and characters may act a bit different as well. Lastly, I'm pretty busy, so I'll try to publish as soon as I can, but sorry if it takes longer than needed! Oh, and constructive criticism is welcomed, (this really helps with school😁).

Nene looked around the class, as she heard her classmates chat, she had, surprisingly, gotten to school early, which was rare as she usually took a lot of detours. She noticed everyone was taking part in some conversation except for herself, since she was tired, and the silent boy who sat behind her. Amane Yugi was his name, she looked at him, confused on why he didn't take any interest in chatting, he just stared out the window, he looked deep in thought.

Who would be thinking about something so hard this early in the morning? She wondered, as she took a closer look at him, she also realized the boy always had some sort of bandaid on him. Why did he have so many bandaids? He didn't look like the brawler type, he always spoke softly, usually avoiding people's eye contact, and he was somewhat aloof. Or so she had heard, she personally never really took up the interest, or nerve, to try to talk to him.

He must have realized that she was staring, since he turned his head in her direction, surprised she let out a surprised squeak. She quickly turned around before he could asked her something. "Man, I'm tired." She complained, laying her head on the desk.

To her suprise, Amane chuckled and teased. "Hello, Tired, I'm Amane Yugi." When he got no reaction, he changed his approach. "Well, if you're already this tired, so early in the morning, I wonder how tired you'd be by the end of the day. Probably dead tired. Would you need a lift home?"

Nene sighed, even though this was the first time she has ever heard him tease anyone, she wasn't in the mood of hearing this, she stayed up way too late last night.

"Yeah, thanks for pointing that out, Captain Obvious," she said sarcastically, slightly lifting her head. "And no, I can manage on my own, thank you very much."

"No problem, mate. " he said, clearly ignoring her sarcasm.

"All right, class," their teacher Tsuchigomori said, entering into the class. "We're gonna have a project, you're gonna partner in pairs. And it's about the solar system. You have five minutes to pick your partner."

Everyone quickly got up and went to their 'first choice', she saw Aoi walking over to her, but was interrupted by Akane who asked her to be her partner, Aoi being the kind person that she was, agreed. She smiled, didn't she wish she had some boy always waiting for her? It sounded like a nice idea. While she was thinking about this everyone was getting their partner.

By the time the five minutes were up, Nene and Amane were the only two remaining who didn't have a partner.

"Well, look at that," Tsuchigomori mused. " you two are gonna be a perfect match. "

Nene blushed at that, she knew he didn't mean it like that, but still it sounded like it. Since she was in front of Amane she couldn't see his reaction. Everyone laughed and teased a bit at them, until Tsuchigomori calmed them down.

"All right, settle down, you have a week to make a Solar System model. Write descriptions of the planets, and write one fact about each."

Nene heard a soft 'yes' from behind her. Well, at least I have a motivated teammate. Hope he won't be silent the whole time.

After the class she was packing her things into her backpack. Getting ready to leave, until she heard a soft 'Yashiro-san '. She quickly spun around and was face to face with Amane. They both blushed and took a step back.

Amane cleared his throat, as if to forget about there little bubble, and spoke to her. "Um, well, I was just wondering y'know about our project? Well, I-I figured we should get each other's numbers, to communicate." He looked away shyly, even if it was for school, asking for a girl's number must have still taken some guts and be embarrassing.

She herself felt a tad bit embarrassed. "Um, sure. Whyy not?" While they were exchanging numbers, she reflected on the fact of the first boy who has ever asked for her number, has done for it school. That's pretty ironic. She thought, remembering all her daydreams of this sort of thing.

"There, done," Amane said softly, while the last of the students were making there way out.

"Wait," she said, taking a step back from him. He looked at her confused. "I need a pic for your profile."

He blushed lightly, and rubbed his finger against his cheek. "You really want a picture of me?"

"Of course! Why wouldn't I?" she smiled, then quickly added. "I always like to get a picture of whoever's number I get."

He just nodded, then he smiled as she took his photo. She looked at the picture and smiled. He looked happy, but also nervous, he made her wonder if anyone has ever bothered to take a picture of him.

"That's a keeper." She grinned as she set it, he gave her a smile, his amber eyes glowing with warmth.

"Now it's your turn," he surprisingly said, holding up his phone. She stood up straight.

"O-okay!" He'd surprised her, no boy has ever asked for her picture. Which I guess it was the same thing with him.

She made peace signs, while she smiled and closed her eyes.

"This one's also a keeper."

"Okay, I'll text ya later, to see what time would be best for me to go to your house, to discuss about the project." she said, smiling, however she saw his eyes darken when she said that. Before she could asked what she had said wrong he spoke.

"No, I don't think my house will be... a good place to do it." He said, sounding a bit alarmed. She glanced at him, she wondered, why was going to his house a bad idea? And why did that alarm him? She decided not ask, she barely knew the boy anyway.

"Okay...well, I don't think my mom would like it if I brought a stranger home, especially with her being away. She's been working extra hours for some reason. So, I don't think my house will work, either, for now." She pondered, where else could they go?

"What about, you know, that book store, that has a cafe in it, by the school?"

She nodded, so he continued. "Well, we could go there for tomorrow, to discuss about the project."

"Okay, that sounds good to me." She turned around, ready to head out, so they could stop getting some looks from students.

"Let's meet tomorrow at the school entrance, after school." He called after her.

"Kay!"

"Bye!" He called after her, as she left.

"Cya tomorrow," she said, over her shoulder. Well, at least he's excited. She thought as she headed home.

•°•°•°•°•°•°°•°•°•°°•°•

Where is he? She looked around, he was already five minutes late. And she thought she was gonna be late.

After a few minutes she heard footsteps and she knew it was him, it wasn't followed by chitchat or laughing like all the other students. And they weren't fast like if someone was running out, in fact they sounded kinda slow, hesitant even.

She turned around and sure enough she saw Amane walking towards her.

She frowned, he looked exhausted and a bit in pain.

"Amane, are you okay?" She asked worried, as she surveyed him. He had two big bandaids on his arms, his left cheek had a bruise, and his eyes looked exhausted.

He looked away," I'm fine. Really."

"But you look~"

"I'm fine." He repeated, a bit more forceful this time, but he didn't raise his voice, like the typical boy. She decided she wasn't going to get anywhere with this, so instead she wanted to change the subject.

"Okay, if you say so," she grabbed his tie and softly tugged at it, while she said."Then let's get going."

"Okay," He cheered, and even though his voice sounded happy; as he followed her he seemed a bit off. As if something was bothering him.

Trying to distract him, she decided to talk to him.

"So...are you excited about this project?" She asked, as they waited for the light to turn red, so they could cross the street.

"Yep!" He exclaimed, brightening up. "I love the stars and space! It's so beautiful, and it makes you wonder just how big the world actually is. Like if Earth, just one of the eight planets, is so big, imagine the rest of the universe!"

Nene was surprised at how passionate he spoke. He really did like space. They chatted more about space as they made they're way into the store.

Once they arrived Amane glanced at the food stall, gawking at a donut.

"Hey Yashiro-san, do you want to get something?" He asked, she silently laughed, his mouth was practically watering.

"No, I can't. I didn't bring anything with me. I know how I get with the mangas." She smiled, a treat did sound good, but if she would have brought her money she would've ended up buying some sort if manga.

Amane stared at her then, glanced the donut. After a few heartbeats he rocked his head side to side, as if he was some having sort of conversion in his head, and he was obliging to it.

"Okay, I'll buy a donut and we can both split it," he promised, shyly glancing at her then the donuts.

"Really?" She said surprised."Are you sure? You don't have to."

"I know," he mumbled, looking at her, his eyes darting back to the donuts and they made eye contact."But I don't want to eat a donut without sharing, besides I always share with... what's your favorite kind?"

She cocked her head, why did he jump into another topic? 'Why doesn't he want to say who he shares with?' She shook her head, deciding to forget about that.

"You don't like any flavor?" Amane asked, looking deflated. "You don't like donuts?"

"Huh? On no! I like donuts. My favorite is..." she peeked at him, and saw him staring specifically at the glazed ones. She did like donuts, strawberry sprinkles were her favorite, but she could tell his favorite were the glazed ones. She smiled, something told her he didn't get this very often, and she did want to make him feel better. Despite the way he acted he still looked hurt.

"My favorite are The glazed ones."

"Oh, that's great!" He cheered, quickly getting in line. He then stopped and looked at her. "Actually, can you please order them? I have to... do something..."

She cocked her head, right now? Right now he had to do something? Well he's the one buying the donut. She reminded herself.

"Okay, sure," she agreed, accepting the money that he gave her. He looked embarrassed.

"Thanks for understanding," he quietly muttered, as he left. And soon he was put of her sight.

She sat waiting for him after she got the donut, he made her think he had ditch her. But she didn't understand why: why would he ditch her? what'd she do?

Well I guess I'll just have to do it myself. She decided indignantly, about to get up and leave. She was halfway getting up until Amane ran up to her table, dropping some books on the table.

She looked at him, about the question him until she read the covers of the books, Stars and Above, Facts of the Planets. And others; he looked at her sheepishly, when he noticed she has her arms crossed. It was clear that she wanted an explanation.

He sighed, "I know, I know, I should have told you what I was doing. But I thought about it after I thought about- Anyway, these are my favorite books of the planets. They're packed with fun facts, and we can take a good look at their structures."

Nene stopped paying full attention, when she heard him cut himself off again. Did he always make a habit of changing subject midsentence?

He must of realized something was off, since he put a book in front of her face."Yashiro-san, are you listening?"

"Huh? Oh yeah, I was just thinking."

He looked at her curiously, but decided it wasn't worth it.

"Alright, let's get started!" He sang, passionately grabbing a book and flipping through the pages until he found the one he wanted."Now I was thinking..."

"Okay, so I guess we have to meet up at my house, huh?" Amane rhetorically asked, his expression was unreadable."Well, I'll go home and text you later if we'll need anything, okay?"

She nodded,"Of course," she looked at him sternly."And no more going off on your own. This is a team project."

He nodded, his face looking like a scolded puppy. "Yeah, sorry about that."

She smiled," It's fine, just don't do it again."

They both smiled; Nene was walking towards her house until she felt a light tug on her sleeve. She turned to see Amane staring ahead of her.

"I know, we just really met but I'd feel bad if I let you walk home alone."

She smiled warmly, he was the first boy to ever offer her a walk home. She felt touched, but she knew it'd be best for her to go home alone. She really didn't need anyone, especially her mother, to get any ideas.

Looking as sweet as she could she answered him,"Yugi-kun, that's so sweet of you, but I'm good really. Thanks though."

Amane straightened up."Yeah, sure no problem."

She waved goodbye at him as she walked home, the sky was a lovely pink red, and the air was a bit chilly. She walked home quietly, rubbing her arms as she got kinda chilly. She wondered how different it would've been if he would've came with her.
