Chapter Six: Last Person You Kiss

Kara's pov

"You're falling in love with her, aren't you?" There it is. The one question I've been dreading since Lena kidnapped me. "Kiera, I've watched you interact and try to date over the past five or so years. I know The Luthor Family is a special interest of yours. On occasion, you'll come back smelling like expensive perfume, you perked up when you found out she came back into town, and the list goes on."

My hand fell from the doorknob. I've been caught. Am I falling in love with her? I don't know. "Miss Grant-,"

"Come sit." The woman's voice changed from its normal slightly irritable tone to a caring one. Taking a seat, I tried not to fidget as I studied the carpet. "I'm speaking as a mentor not your boss, are you sleeping with her?" I nodded. "That explains a few things," Miss Grant mumbled. "Do you have feelings for her?"

"I…..I think so." A weight lifted from my chest saying it aloud. I guess I do have feelings for her. Crap…

"Do you think she feels the same way?"

"I…I don't know," I shrugged. "I think at first it was just sex. Now there's a softer look in her eyes but that could just be part of being human."

"Not all the time. When there are truly zero strings, it's not emotional. Have you shared a meal and sex wasn't present?"

"Technically, yes. Only because of interruptions."

"Hmm," Miss Grant thought. "Have you had emotional conversations or shared advice?"

"Yes, a few times."

"I don't want to get your hopes up but it sounds like there is some degree of emotional connection that goes both ways. Be careful. When emotions get involved, it can hurt. To her, there is something special about you. Otherwise, she wouldn't have agreed to an interview or send you roses."

"Thank you, Miss Grant." I have a lot to think about. I know what I feel and what I want but I'm not sure about what Lena wants or feels.

Sitting back at my desk, I opened Lena's contact information and stared at the library picture. I'm falling for you and you don't even know it. Tapping the green bubble icon, I sent a quick text.

She threatened to fire the photographers. Miss Grant was dumbfounded when I sent her the pictures. Absolutely loved them! I was quickly forgiven for being late. -K

Haha. Glad I can help keep the great Cat Grant on her toes. About to start a board meeting. Have a good rest of your day and I'll see you tomorrow. -L

Good luck with the meeting. Until then. -K

Leaning back, I looked towards Miss Grant's office before rubbing my face. I'm in so much trouble.

Wanting to show off my arms, I wore a black, sleeveless, high neck shirt with my favorite black pencil skirt that had a white jacquard design. I finished the outfit with black heels and my normal watch. Checking my hair and makeup once more, I took a steadying breath. No matter where tonight goes, I need to live in the moment and enjoy the time I have with Lena. Before leaving, I sent a quick text to Alex telling her I'd be busy tonight.

Knocking lightly, I waited for Lena. Nothing could have prepared me for what stood on the other side of the door. My jaw slacked seeing the brunette in a royal blue dress with a low neckline. Her dark hair fell over her shoulders in loose waves. "Rao…"

"You look nice too," Lena smiled softly. "It seems we're switching hairstyles. Mine is down for once and yours is in a tight bun. Come in." Stepping to the side, she allowed me entrance.

"Thanks." She enjoys what she sees. I can feel her eyes on me. "Dinner smells fantastic. What have you cooked?"

Closing the door, Lena led me towards the kitchen. "I made steak with roasted potatoes and asparagus. I made a coffee rub for the steak. It's delicious.

"I can't wait to try it."

"If you enjoy it, I cooked a little extra for you to take home."

"Oh, thank you." Would you really do that for someone you had no emotions for? "If it tastes half as good as it smells, I'll definitely take you up on that. Is there anything I can help with?"

"Just take a seat. I was about to plate the food and pour the wine."

Taking a seat, I watched as Lena worked in the kitchen. It sounds like she went all out for this. Placing the plates on the table, Lena went back into the kitchen. "This looks incredible."

"Thank you," Lena smiled. Taking her own seat, she placed a napkin in her lap. "Let's eat."

"You don't have to tell me twice!" I was careful not to scarf down the steak. Oh, gosh. This is amazing! "I am so glad you made extra. This is beyond words."

"I'm glad you enjoy it. How was work? Anything interesting at CatCo or bad guys you had to take down?"

"Miss Grant is still irritated at the photography department," I chuckled.

"You have an unfair advantage." Lena sipped her wine.

"You're not wrong," I grinned.

After everything was cleaned up, Lena showed me the library. "Wow…" My voice trailed. Mahogany bookcases lined every wall. A large fluffy chair sat in the middle of the room with a small table beside it and a lamp behind. Aimlessly, I walked around examining each shelf. The closet had a different type of door than the rest of the apartment. "What's in there?"

"My first or special editions. I converted the closet into a climate controlled room to keep them safe."

"Can I see them?"

"Of course." After putting gloves on, Lena held a pair out for me. "To keep oils and acids off the brittle spines and pages." Taking the offered gloves, I put them on and waited as Lena entered her security code. The door opened and a dim light came on. "Have a look."

After a few minutes of investigation, I rejoined Lena in the main area of the library. "Your collection is incredible."

"Thank you." Tossing our gloves away, we made ourselves comfortable in the living room.

"I'm having a really nice time tonight. Thank you for inviting me for dinner."

"You're welcome. I'm glad to know there's someone else who enjoys books." Biting my lip, I looked away. "Is something wrong?"

"I…" This may destroy everything. "Two people know about us. Or know that we're sleeping together."

Lena's expression didn't change. "Who are they?"

"My sister and Miss Grant. Both could see that I've been seeing someone. They both guessed it was you."

"You are, technically, seeing someone. Why do they think it's me?" Lena's voice was steady and her expression unreadable.

"Alex was joking around and my face gave it away. Miss Grant has seen the differences in me over the past few weeks, how I act when you're brought up, she noticed the smell of expensive perfume that I can not afford, she saw the roses that were delivered, and can't think of another reason why you would suddenly want to do an interview."

"Sleeping with you and giving an interview aren't mutually exclusive. It's not a quid pro quo situation," Lena nearly growled.

"No. No. She doesn't think it is." This is where everything gets ruined.

"What does she think then?" Lena eyed me skeptically.

"She thinks that…" Shaking my head, I walked a few feet away and kept my back to the brunette. I can't. If I say it, it'll ruin everything. "I…I can't say."

"Kara, you can tell me." Lena's voice was soft and caring.

Swallowing hard, I asked a question I never wanted to ask. "Do you want to see other people?" My voice cracked.

"Excuse me?" Lena exclaimed. Mildly offended.

Turning, I asked again. "Do you want to see other people?"

Dark brows creased. "Do you?" Defensiveness turned into understanding when I never answered. Running a hand through her hair, Lena looked away. "No. I don't want to. I know originally the arrangement was just sex but things changed when I saw how hurt you were the second time in my office."

Just say it. Say it now or you'll lose the nerve. "I want to be the last person you kiss."

Shock turned mischievous as my words sank in. "Kara Danvers," Lena came to wrap her arms around my waist. Mine instantly wrapped around Lena's neck. "You have changed. More direct. I like it." She paused. "Should I ask it or would you like to?"

"Ask what?" I searched warm green eyes. My heart thundered behind my ribs.

"Kara Danvers, will you be exclusively with me?"

"Oooh," I grinned. "Will I be your girlfriend?" I couldn't help but laugh at Lena's smirk. "Definitely." Closing the gap between us, I kissed the businesswoman. Letting my forehead rest against hers, I smiled. "The feelings were getting hard to hide."

"I could tell." Taking my hand, Lena led us back to the couch. Pulling me into her arms, we got comfortable. "I'm still trying to decode my feelings. But I do know I don't want to see you dating someone else."

Snuggling into the shorter woman, I smiled. "We're on the same page. Should we tell people or let the media flounder for a while?"

"I would find it entertaining to see what the media does. Later on, we can let Cat officially break the story."

"You really are devious," I laughed.

"That's something you've always liked about me. Don't try to deny it." Lena kissed my hair. "Obviously, you can tell your sister and people you know who won't go straight to the media."

"I'll tell Alex and a few friends. Miss Grant will know by the look on my face."
