'You'll think of something, you always do. Be safe- OG'.
That was part of the goodbye note Granger write for Hetty when he left her. Most nights, she would sit up at night and wonder: Did 'Be safe' actually mean 'I love you?'
Then a year later, after complete radio silence, he returned to her. At first, she wanted nothing to do with him because she was still hurting from him just upping and leaving her and making her believe that he had died. But due to recent trauma, she let him back in.
At home in front of the fireplace
'Lost in thought?' Granger asked.
'Oh! Um (adjusting her blanket), just thinking about how, it's been a couple of years now since you 1st left me. I wondered for so long if 'Be safe' was you telling me that you loved me, then I thought I'd never get the chance to ask, and then you came back wen I really needed a friend, well. (light snicker). How did we ever end up getting married?!' Hetty replied.
Chuckles. 'Guess it can be said that trauma kept us together. (seeing her weird look). In a gloomy way. In a cliché romantic way, it can be said that despite how much time has passed, our feelings for each other never stopped.'
'Owen, you're more of a romantic then you think. Remember what you told me on our wedding day?. Then she pulled out the paper they had written their vows on and read aloud:
'I promise that even in times of unpredictable crisis, I won't abandon you. If you were to go missing, I would move heaven and earth to find you, because I know you would do the same for me.'
Soft look. 'I should've tried to call you when I was recovering. I missed you and I thought you would've been better off thinking I was dead, and despite it all, you still forgave me. I still wonder why.' Granger asked.
Leaning on him. 'I couldn't stay mad at you forever. And because I couldn't get you out of my mind if I tried.' Hetty sweetly replied.
They sat there together for a while, thankful to have each other to get through life.
