Kunimi had heard it all before, "lazy, apathetic, uninterested" so often, the words played on loop in his mind, a broken record. He felt like a burden to his team, a bad friend.
"Hey, what's on your mind?" Kindaichi, the only person who's never hurt him with those cruel words.
"Am I- do you think that I'm… like, lazy?" He immediately realized what he said and covered his mouth, eyes widening before he regained his composure. "Nevermind, forget I said anything."
"Never, I know that you give your all in everything you do, your meds make you a bit drowsy, but I don't mind, promise." He held out his pinky.
"So childish, as always." He shook his head, while the corners of his mouth curled upwards. He lifted his finger nonetheless. "You make a pinky promise, you keep it all your life, you break a pinky promise, I'll throw you on the ice, the cold will kill the finger that once betrayed your friend, and your tongue will freeze off so you can never lie again." He chanted sing song.
"That's from the game you like, right?"
"Yeah."
Wanna play it when we get to my place?"
"No, I'm really tired from practice." He felt bad for what he said, he opened his mouth to take it back but before he had the chance,
"That's fine, let's take a nap on the futons, like when we were kids."
That was Kindaichi, his best friend. He really didn't deserve him. He smiled while pondering what he had done in his past life to deserve such an angel.
With the futons out, Kunimi quickly snuggled into the blankets, breathing in the sweet cinnamon scent that lingered in the house from all the pastries the family made.
"Sleep well, Aki."
"Sleep well, Yuu."
