A Strange Package
A white US X delivery truck pulls up at the large isolated house of paraplegic Nica Pierce and her mother Sarah. While her mother is painting, Nica is in another room on her laptop. After Sarah took a sip of her drink the doorbell rang.
"Nica!" Sarah calls, "Nica, there's somebody at the door."
"I'm busy," Nica replies back on her laptop.
The doorbell rings again. Nica, please," Sarah begs.
Nica then reluctantly rolls her wheelchair out of the room to answer the door. "God!"
"What are you doing that's so important?" Sarah asked her.
"I was playing solitaire," Nica answers as she rolls her wheelchair up to the front door.
"The computer cheats you know," Sarah comments.
"Yeah, well I'm used to that," Nica responds.
Nica opens the door and sees a young handsome delivery man with a big package.
"Morning," said the delivery man with a smile.
"Hi," Nica says smiling back.
"Got a delivery for Mrs. Sarah Pierce," the man said,
"Oh I'll send for it," Nica tells him.
"Cool," he said handing over the package. As he handed her the electronic signature pad and pen, he adds, "You know you don't look like a Mrs."
"Oh, I'm...I'm not," Nica answers as she signs for the package, "It's for my mother."
As the delivery man starts flirting with Nica, her mother notices it and looks worried. The man then comments that he recognizes Nica from the city college in the psych department and flirts with her a little more as Nica was smiling. But after mentioning that her mom was home he said it was too bad and hands her the package.
"Well see you around," the man replies.
"Bye," Nica said still smiling. And the man left.
"Was that guy hitting on me?" Nica asked her mother.
"Baby you're beautiful," Sarah said lovingly.
"Thank you, but I-I think that guy was hitting on me," Nica said looking back to where he went, "Maybe I should go ask him out." But her mother stops her.
"Nica," Sarah tells her as she closes the door, "He was just being nice."
Nica frowns sadly at what her mother said.
"I'm sorry," Sarah apologizes, "Honey I just don't ever want to see you get hurt." But Nica didn't change the look on her face as she gives her mother the package.
Nica rolls her wheelchair into the living room. "I thought you swore off the hook shopping network."
"I haven't bought anything in three weeks," Sarah told her as she carried the package.
"Maybe you have a secret admirer," Nica suggests.
Sarah looks amused by her comment as she sits down. "You sound threaten," Sarah replies.
"No, not at all. I just wouldn't want to see you get hurt," Nica said in a bitter tone.
Sarah gave Nica a look.
As Sarah begins opening the package, Nica goes over to her and asks, "Who's it from?"
When Sarah checks the package she answers, "It doesn't say." But she shrugs it off.
When she opens the package she sees that someone sent her a Good Guy doll. She picks the doll up and examines it.
Sarah scoffs, "Must be some kind of joke."
Nica shakes her head a little, "I don't get it."
"Neither do I," Sarah said.
Looking at it and attempting to lighten the mood, Nica replies, "He's cute."
"If you say so," Sarah said with uncertainty.
The doll then spoke, "Hi, I'm Chucky. Wanna play?"
But Sarah was still disturbed by the doll.
"Alice and James will love him," Nica said, "As long as they're willing to share him."
Nica then rolls her wheelchair back to the room she was in. Sarah call after Nica telling her daughter that she's going to make tuna melts for lunch later.
Sarah still feeling uncomfortable with Chucky decided to throw him in the kitchen garbage.
Later that night, Nica woke up to her mother screaming and turns her lamp on.
"Mom!" Nica calls out, but she gets no response.
Nica gets out of bed and wheels herself to her mom's bedroom but she isn't there.
"Mom? Mom?" Nica tries calling again, but still no response.
Nica then uses the elevator to go down and search for her mother.
She tries calling out to her again, "Mom?" Nica then turns on the lights hoping to see better.
After the lights are turned on, Nica got a shocking and horrifying discovery. She found her mother dead in a pool of blood. Nica cried in horror and then she went over to the phone to call 911.
As she was crying Nica told them that she needed an ambulance and explained to them what happened. All the while Nica was unaware that the Good Guy doll who her mother threw in the kitchen garbage was now sitting in a chair not too far away from the body.
It took a while for the ambulance to get to the house, but by the time the sun was up two men were taking away the body of her mother, while another man was talking to Nica.
Later that day a car was pulling up to the mansion. It was Nica's older sister, Barb, and her family, her husband, Ian, their two children, Alice and James and their nanny, Jill. Along them was Father Frank, the priest from the local church.
The little boy had tears still falling down his cheeks still crying about what he learned. His sister looks at him in worry.
"Are you okay, James?" Alice asked her little brother.
"I can't believe Grandma is dead," James said with his small voice full of sadness.
Alice gently hugged James, "I know, but we can't make Mommy and Daddy sad."
James sniffed and nods, "You're right Alice. I just...I'm going to miss her so much."
Alice nods sadly. "Me too. But at least we get to see Auntie Nica and stay with her." Alice trying to make James feel better, especially since they both are close to their aunt.
James nods and tries calming down and wiping away his tears. James then hugs Alice again as tight as he can. "Thank you Alice," he said, "You're the best big sister in the world."
Alice smiles and says, "Yeah maybe I should get a "Best Big Sister" reward."
James finally gives a little smile and says, "I don't know what I would do without you."
By the way, I almost forgot. I'm sorry I haven't uploaded any of my stories in a while, it's just my laptop crashed and it took me a while to get a new one. So now that I have a laptop again I'm going to try and keep up with my stories.
