It was a typical summer day. Elian Blackwood was sitting in his room, reading Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It was one of his favorite books, and a gift from his father for his seventh birthday. Of course, Elian would never look at his father the way he used to. He had turned 11 during April, but two years ago, he had a rough encounter with his father.
Suddenly, he heard tapping on his window and looked to see an owl on the windowsill. He opened it up and took a letter from it. As he opened it, he read, "Dear Elian Blackwood, you have been accepted to Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft!" as he read it again, he ran downstairs and said, "Mum! I got my letter! I'm going to Hogwarts!"
Cynthia Blackwood was washing dishes when her son ran down the stairs and as she heard her son, she squealed in glee, running to her son and hugging him, "Oh Elian, I'm so proud of you! I knew you would get in, I just knew it!"
Nathaniel, Elian's father had just walked in the door and heard them, "Did I hear right? Our boy has been accepted into Hogwarts? Smashing!" before putting a hand on his son's shoulder saying, "I'm proud of you Elian."
Elian flinched when he heard his father's voice, and a shiver ran down his spine when he felt his hand on his shoulder, but gave a fake smile, "Thanks dad."
Cynthia smiled and said, "Nathaniel, why don't I take Elian to Diagon Alley? You've been at the Ministry since 3 in the morning, you need some rest."
Nathaniel smiled, "Thank you dear, I could use some sleep from this late-night session." before taking his shoes off and heading upstairs.
Elian mentally sighed in relief, glad that his father wasn't going with them. As they made their way to the fireplace, Cynthia took some Floo Powder and gave some to Elian. He stepped into the fireplace and said, "Diagon Alley!" before throwing the powder to the ground. After that, he arrived in Diagon Alley, with his mother arriving moments later.
Cynthia read the letter and said, "Well, we should get you your textbooks, then we'll get you fitted for your robes. Once that's done, we'll get you a wand, and perhaps a pet."
Elian smiled, "Ok mum." before following her to the bookstore
Two hours later...
After Elian had gather all his school supplies, he and his mother walked into Ollivander's Wand Emporium. Mr. Ollivander looked from his desk and said, "Ah, a new wizard student I suppose? Well, you've come to the right place for your wand." before searching the shelves and grabbing a wand and handing it to Elian. "Well, give it a flick."
Elian flicked the wand while saying, "Wingardium leviosa", a simple charm at the quill on the desk, only for it to burst into flames. "Probably not the right one Mr. Ollivander."
"Don't worry boy, it happens all the time." before looking for another wand. "Ah, here it is, hawthorn, chimera scales at 11 and 1/4 inches. It's a difficult and rare wand, but it's one of the best I've made."
As Elian held the wand, it started glowing and he smiled, "Well, looks like this one likes me as much as I like it."
Ollivander smiled and said, "That's all that matters young one, when a wand finds its perfect partner, there's nothing that makes me prouder as a wand-maker."
After Cynthia gave Ollivander the payment for her son's wand, she told him, "Now, let's get you a companion. I know you're allergic to cats, so an owl would be best."
As they walked to the owlery, Elian saw a strange looking owl and asked, "Mum, what kind of owl is that?"
Cynthia looked at the owl and gasped, "That's a Hawaiian Coconut Owl! Never thought I'd see one in Britain. Perhaps finding this one was destiny." before asking her son, "Do you like it?"
Elian nodded, "She's beautiful, I love her."
As they walked in to pay for the owl, the owl hooed lightly as it was handed to Elian, and his mother asked, "What do you want to name her?"
Elian thought for a moment, "Moana, I'll name her Moana."
"A splendid name for her Elian." before looking at her pocket watch. "Oh dear, I'm going to be late for my meeting... I don't have time to take you home first... what should I do? I suppose you'll have to come with me." before leading her son through Diagon Alley.
Elian knew his mother worked for the Ministry, much like his father did, but he trusted his mother. He no longer trusted his father, and for good reason.
And so, Elian Blackwood has received a letter from Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft. With this letter, he starts to get ready for his first year at Hogwarts. But Elian holds a dark secret, something that has damaged the relationship he once had with his father. But what could be this secret? And what will come of it if others find out about the secret?
