Heaven, outside the main office
It took three minutes for him to reach the robed man. It wasn't the walking across the clouds that confused him, though it did bother him a bit, it was the fact there was nothing and nobody between here and there. There being a high gatepost and with a podium next to it.
"How did they stay frozen?" Saint Peter nudged the pile with his sandalled foot.
"Its their name init. Frozen peas. They are meant to be frozen, so that is what they are" he shrugged.
"Huh" he slid his book off the podium "Name?"
"John"
"Last name?"
"Smith"
"We may be a while" he opened the book to S and ran his finger down the many lines
"Knifed?"
He looked up. No knife wounds or blood.
"Not gored by a bull. Heart attack? Heart attack? Few of those. Was it a heart attack? Did you feel a tightness in your chest, you know before you... erm... arrived here?"
"Don't think I've had a heart attack. The guy with the sunglasses asked my name too"
"Bear trap? Arrow? Toaster?" he kept reading, then stopped "Wait. What guy?"
"I hope not? In this day and age? A man in the bookshop. Must have been another customer. Didn't look like a bookseller. Looked like that guy, you know, on the internet? I asked him, did he have a good Western book?. Cowboys and so on? He said, take the lift and ask for Pete"
"Pete?"
"Yeah. You Pete?"
He closed the book and placed it back on podium.
"Haven't had to do this in a while" he circled his finger. John's face went slack. "you looked and found that all the books on the shelf, you had read. You are going to go back to the main shop, wave goodbye and see if you can find a better option in the charity shop."
"The one next to where the bus stop was?"
"If you like" he circled his finger again and watched as John walked back over the clouds.
