Hiya! Had to split the party into two chapters!

Chapter Ten

Sam looked to his left and right before hearing his coach shouting to run the ball. With a burst of speed, he took off down the field, his eyes trained on the end zone. The defenders closed in, but Sam's determination fueled his every step. He zigzagged between them, executing quick cuts and spins that left them grasping at thin air. He could hear the crowd cheering him on as he continued down before the cheering exploded as he entered the end zone for a record breaking touch down.

Sam's heart was racing and he was quickly bombarded by his teammates shouting their praises. He felt himself falling to the ground as they began to pile on him and couldn't help but laugh. They'd won and now he could breathe a little more, the pressure was gone and he could enjoy this moment. As his teammates started getting up he looked over at the stands and amazingly saw the one person he hadn't expected.

His father.

"WOOOHOO! THAT'S HOW YOU WIN A GAME EVANS!" Puck shouted, patting him on the back as they headed towards the sidelines.

Sam smiled proudly. "Thanks man, couldn't have done it without you guys though!"

"God damnit, Evans! You've made me proud!" Beiste said, pulling him a hug right as his teammates rushed over and dumped the cooler of water on them. He cheered along with his teammates before the crowd came rushing to the field like they'd always done after a big win.

He kept a watchful eye on where his father was standing while accepting praise and hugs from random people before finally breaking away when he saw his family. He jogged over to them smiling and hugging them all.

"Good job, Sammy!" Stevie exclaimed, presenting his tiny fist for him to fist bump.

Sam obliged, chuckling. "Thanks bro, but I feel like you could've done better."

The little boy nodded. "Me too." He replied, making their mother and sister laugh.

"So what are you doing after this? Maybe we can grab some pizza." Mary suggested.

"Rain check?" Sam masked, searching the crowd before spotting Mercedes and her friends talking to Mike and Jake. "There's a party tonight…"

Stacey smirked, looking over her shoulder. "Which one is she?"

Sam smirked. "The one in the anime shirt." He answered, watching his sister and mother look over at her before smiling back at him.

Stacey nodded her approval. "She's gorgeous, looks like her older sister."

Sam looked at his sister. "You know her sister?"

"By way of her friend and I went to school with her brothers… don't make her cry, her brothers are huge."

"Thanks Stace, whatever confidence I had is gone now." Sam replied jokingly.

"Well, go talk to her. We'll see you later." Mary said, giving him another hug. "You be careful tonight and if she's your date, treat her like a lady."

"I will, ma! See ya later!" He said over his shoulder as he walked towards his friends and Mercedes.

"... she was such a bad ass! You should've seen her." Tina bragged, playfully nudging and Harmony both nodded.

Jake smirked. "Keep hanging around Sheila and before you know it you'll be fighting people for no reason." He joked, winking at his girlfriend who just rolled her eyes.

"Boy… anyways. What's the plan?" Sheila asked as Sam approached.

Mike patted him on the back. "Did you hear? Your girl went off on blondie."

Mercedes blushed when Sam shot her an impressed smile. "Did you, now?" He asked, smiling brightly when she nodded.

"And when she said "tighten your ponytail, you got a show to put on.." I was like yessss!" Sheila said, singing her praises.

Tina wrapped an arm around Mercedes. "Enough of that, we got a party to get ready for! You guys are riding with us or?" She asked the guys.

"I'm down." Jake said, grabbing Sheila's hand. "We can take my truck to your place, will your folks be okay with us parking there?"

Tina shot them a nervous look. "Popa Chang said no boys…" She replied. "But it would be irresponsible of me if I didn't provide a safe place for you to leave your cars… soo sure!"

"Then it's set, we'll all meet at Tina's then go from there." Harmony said and everyone nodded. "Kurt, just follow us so we can show you where it is!"

"Perfect! Alright… let's leave these two alone." Kurt said and they all got what he was saying, quickly walking off the field leaving Mercedes and Sam alone.

Sam moved closer to Mercedes, smiling. "You excited about the party?"

Sighing, she shrugged. "It's my first one so I'm a little nervous. I don't know what people do at parties… the biggest party I ever attended was my brothers going away party."

"It's kinda like that, lots of music and dancing, people shouting and making out." He said snickering when he saw her panic slightly at the last part. "Don't worry, you'll be too busy dancing to do that."

She let out a laugh, shaking her head. "I don't think you could handle my moves." She bounced back playfully. "Good game by the way."

"Thanks… sorry again about your friend."

"She is not my friend… no friend of mine would do that, I'm sorry she did it."

Moving closer, he looked down at her, realizing just how much he actually towered over her. "I meant what I said, I wouldn't do that after the other night."

Mercedes nodded, moving closer. "I know but thank you for telling me that." She replied, looking up at him.

"Oh my God, are they gonna kiss?"

"Shh! We're not supposed to be spying on them!" Tina said, pushing Mike back so she could see.

Kurt quietly squealed. "I love this so much for her!"

"Wait, interference fifty- yard line." Jake said and they all shuffled to see what he was talking about. "Hope your girl is cool with meeting parents."

"Holy shit…" Mike said before whistling loudly. Sam and Mercedes both looked in the direction they heard the sound before his eyes landed on his father.

Mercedes noticed his frown. "Everything okay?" She asked.

"Umm… no- I mean I don't know… that's my dad."

"I can go… or I can stay. I'm not really sure what to do but-" She stopped when she noticed she'd started to ramble.

"Ah, I would like you to meet my family but he and I are not on the best of terms right now." He answered honestly and she understood. She offered a smile before standing on her toes and kissing him on the cheek.

"For luck." She said.

"See you at the party?" He asked and she smiled, nodding before walking away.

The group watched before scrambling to pretend like they hadn't been snooping when she got closer. "I thought you guys left?"

They all shared a look before looking back at Mercedes. "We're your ride!" Harmony shouted, making her flinch slightly.

Mercedes nodded. "Oh, because I left my car here so I just assumed…"

Tina shifted. "Right! That's right but we can't let you walk to your car alone… it's dark out here."

Mercedes shot them an amused look. "So you weren't watching me and Sam talk then?"

Mike shook his head. "Sam? I thought he left… hmm."

"Could've sworn he had to poop or something." Jake chimed in before Sheila hit him in the stomach. "Ow! What was that for?"

Sheila rolled her eyes. "Anyways, everything good?"

Mercedes nodded. "Yeah, he said he'll see me at the party." She answered.

"Well then let's go pregame while we wait for Sam!" Jake said and everyone nodded before walking out of the stadium to their cars, Mike shot Sam a text to let him know where they were all headed.

"Sam…" Dwight said before stopping. "I told you I wouldn't miss the game."

Sam looked at his father before shrugging. "Are you wanting a prize?" He asked dryly. " Look, I have somewhere to be."

Dwight nodded. "I know that you're upset with me but I did what was best for everyone. Me being there was not good for any of us."

"Why are you telling me all of this? I just won one of the biggest games ever and you come here with this? News flash, you haven't been here! You have missed games, school events and family time, you not being here isn't anything new." Sam spat, running hand through his damp hair.

"You don't know the whole truth… just give me-"

"I have somewhere to be, you want to speak to me, tell your assistant to make an appointment and I might show up." Sam said, cutting him off before walking away without giving his father another passing look.

Sam muttered as he headed towards the locker room to grab his bag, muttering under his breath. He hated that his dad would choose now to try to talk to him after saying he would let Sam choose when they spoke. He threw his helmet down, sighing as he sat down on the bench to calm himself down.

"Sam?" He heard, looking up, immediately rolling his eyes.

"I do not have time for this shit." He said, standing and grabbing his bag before feeling a pair of arms wrap around his back.

"I just came to check on you." Jen said, laying her head on his back. "I saw you and your dad talking, looked heated… are you okay?"

Sam grabbed her hands and pried them away from him. "Jen, whatever this is, I don't want it. Leave me the hell alone." He replied, moving around her to get his bag.

"Sam why are you acting like this with me? I never did anything to deserve this from you!"

Sam sighed, looking upward before turning to face his ex. He knew based on how she was dressed she was up to something, she was wearing a slinky black dress that barely covered her body and a pair of heels. Undeniably, she was still as gorgeous as she was when they first started dating but predictably she still believed he was only ith her because of her looks.

"I'm sorry, okay? You just… we broke up for a reason and I have dealt with enough unwanted conversations today." He responded.

Jen moved closer cautiously. "Look, I get it but I also remember how much you admired your dad so I just wanted to check in… honest." She said softly.

Sam could tell she was being genuine so he dropped his guard slightly. "Thanks for checking, we're good. I really have to go now." He said, walking past her.

Jen grabbed his hand, stopping him. "Sam, this is silly. We were really good friends before we dated and you act like I'm some stranger and then I see you with the Cheerio, like what is really going on with you?"

"Jen, listen to me carefully. Who I am or am not with is no longer your concern. Friends or not, you still don't understand when you've overstepped and as for the Cheerio, I am not with her. I barely know her." He replied, snatching away, this time leaving before she could stop him again.

"This isn't over…" She muttered, taking out her phone and texting her friend.

"... I'll get ya stuck, STUCK in my love! Stuck in my honey!" Sheila sang as she put on her earrings.

"Honey, honey, hon'." Harmony joined it, carefully applying mascara. "I'll put the sweet, sweeeet on your tongue, don't it taste yummy!"

"YUMMY, YUMMY, YUM!" Tina shouted into her curling wand, shimmying with Kurt.

Mercedes smiled, bobbing her head. "Now stick it thick, honey and gold… Drippin' all on me!" She sang .

"Damn, we sound good together." Sheila boasted, humming along to the music. "We got about ten more minutes, then we need to head out."

Kurt admired himself in the mirror. "Fit check, I need to make sure you all look fabulous."

"Period." Sheila said, turning with a smirk. "Not that I'll be looking for any but the boys will be drooling over me."

Kurt nodded in agreement, she was wearing a pair of black jeans with a sheer black top that she adorned with a black sleeveless bodysuit. "I love it!" He said. "But I thought Jake liked you in dresses?"

Sheila shrugged. "He likes me in dresses but loves me in jeans."

Tina rolled her eyes. "That just means there's more of a challenge, they'll make it through half of the parry before he needs her to help him with something."

Sheila smiled cheekily. "No, not tonight since it's our girl's first party, I told him the factory was closed. Gotta make sure Cedes has a bomb night."

Mercedes' eyes grew wide before she burst out laughing. "THE FACTORY?"

Everyone else laughed along with her while Sheila just shrugged. They all finished getting ready and after getting a nod of approval from Kurt, they finally headed out to the party. Mercedes was nervous but excited and couldn't help the giddiness growing as they piled up into Tina's SUV. They sang along to more songs as they drove to the party, taking selfies and just gossiping about any and everything.

Maia: have fun, don't get too drunk!

MJ: omg! Ha! I won't!

MJ: no I mean i will have fun

MJ: no drinking!

Maia: lol don't be nervous!

MJ: i'm not… just excited

MJ: only slightly nervous

Maia: remember those talent shows you would throw in your room when you thought no one was looking?

MJ: omg…

Maia: how else do you think we knew you could sing? Anyway, be that version of you! Have fun sis!

MJ: okay… I love you, we're pulling up to the party. I'll call you tomorrow!

Maia: [heart emoji]

When she got out of the car, she was greeted with music thumping louding that made her heart feel like it was vibrating. There were a lot of people from her school, upperclassmen and some underclassmen that she only slightly recognized. Kurt grabbed her hand, squeezing it before leading her to the main entrance behind the other girls.

The closer they got the louder the music was and the harder her heart rate went, she couldn't explain how she was feeling, it was a mixture of excitement and nerves. She took in everything around her, people dancing, couples kissing and so many red cups.

"YASS! THIS MY SONG!" Sheila shouted, swaying her hips as Family Affair started playing. "Anthony gotta be in charge of music tonight." She added.

Kurt started shimmying, making Mercedes snicker. "Can't go wrong with Mary J!" He said.

"Let's get some drinks, the boys will be here in fifteen minutes." Tina said, bobbing her head as she and Harmony danced over to the kitchen. Sheila grabbed Mercedes hand, moving her so that they were dancing with Kurt dancing alongside her. Mercedes laughed letting them move her before slowly getting into it and dancing on her own. Tina and Harmony came back with the drinks, passing them out.

"Oh wait, this is Cedes. Just a fruit punch." Tina said. "Didn't want to assume you wanted to drink."

Mercedes shot her an appreciative smile. 'Thanks!" She said, taking the drink Tina gave her.

"Let's party!" Harmony shouted and they all cheered along with her before taking a sip of their drinks and moving around the party.

Mercedes was surprised at how comfortable she was to be around so many people but luckily for her, her friends kept her too distracted to really notice or care about anyone else. She hadn't even realized that they were all dancing until she felt a tap on her shoulder and saw Sam standing there.

"Looks like you're having fun." He joked.

She nodded, smiling up at him "I am!" She replied.

Sam smiled back. "Wanna get a drink with me?" He asked.

"Sure!" She said, letting him take her hand and lead her over to the kitchen where he grabbed a cup, pouring some beer into it.

He looked at her, admiring her. "You look nice."

Mercedes took another sip of her drink, realizing it was empty. "Thanks, Tina helped me pick it out."

"She did good."

Mercedes' already warm skin grew hotter at his compliment. "So… how does one party with a date?" She asked, mentally chiding herself for asking such a lame question.

Sam chuckled at her question. "Just… have a good time. Don't worry about the people you don't know and focus on the ones you do." He replied, playfully bumping her. "Ready to show me those moves?"

Teasingly she shrugged. "Still don't think you can handle them."

"It's because I'm white, right?" He joked, "This country boy got some rhythm."

She giggled. "That's absolutely what it is, can't have you dancing off beat."

"Ha, you got jokes… okay let's make a bet." Sam said but before Mercedes could respond she felt something wet hit her back.

Until next time xoxo!
