The Major.
He had been the personification of sheer brutality and bloodlust. Insatiable in battle and with a desire for destruction and chaos that could make the South tremble.
Had been the most feared and ruthless individual in the vampire world, the most lethal of their species. He had been a dangerous and feral vampire who had never, not even once, lost a fight; he trained and led armies of newborns that he slaughtered himself when he saw it fit. He fought in the Southern Wars for territory, slaughtering thousands of humans and vampires alike in his wake. He was well known for his strange ability to subdue an entire army without lifting a finger.
The death and destruction that he had caused in his wake was still, to this day, one of the worst things to ever be recorded in vampire history. And while the Volturi had tried to put an end to those wars and him, The Major was known for having annihilated one of Aro's armies, on his own, having come close to slaughtering Aro himself.
Some vampires referred to him as "the God Of War" due his terrifying presence in the battlefield, his control over newborns, and his perfect record of victories. He was a monstrous being who existed to leave nothing but death and destruction behind him. His bloodlust bled over the battlefield like a cloak of nightmares that sent armies scattering in terror.
He was the personification of what an actual vampire was meant to be and so much worse. He was the one thing all vampires wished to never come across in their lives.
A demon who's soul had long been lost, who's insatiable bloodlust drove him to lose his humanity, one of the most dangerous creatures to ever walk the Earth.
The perfect killer; Aro had called him once.
But then he disappeared, lots of people thought him dead, and because of it the Volturi had finally seized the South, it took years, but at the end, the vampire wars over territories had come to an end.
And now here Carlisle sat, with the one vampire who had put the South upside down for decades right infront of him, he was completely sure that the Volturi wouldn't hesitate to come after him were they to know he was alive.
To recruit him or kill him, he didn't know, but Aro would definitely not like this situation one bit.
But how was Carlisle suppose to have even a panic attack over the fact that he had The Major right infront of him, under the same roof as his family, when he was nothing but a boy? A boy who was looking at Carlisle as if he were expecting him to kill him at any moment?
He was just a boy, a very frightened boy, the way he had pictured The Major… he had thought him to be a man with thousands of scars and just evil in his eyes.
But he ended up being a boy not older than his own children, yes, he had lots of scars, but those terrified pitch black eyes didn't held any evil, they were haunted, exhausted, just screaming for a sliver of safety, for anyone to save him.
-Carlisle, get away from him.- Edward's voice was tense, alarmed, but Carlisle didn't let it bother him.
"I'm fine, he won't hurt me, he's just scared, can you tell Emmett to bring it?"
-You can't be serious, you want to feed him even after knowing who he is?
"I won't starve him, regardless of who he is."- Carlisle thought firmly, leaving no room for argument. He could almost feel Edward's scowl before he heard him speaking with Emmett, he tuned them out, focusing on the boy before him, he wasn't shaking nor growling anymore, but he was still regarding him with wariness.
It was a strange thing, how easy was to read his eyes despite the fact that he had no iris, no pupil, just absolute darkness.
Soon a light knock came from the door, startling the boy, his attention focusing completely on the closed door as his eyes grew sharp, but when the door opened Emmett wasn't the one who stepped in.
It was Alice.
She was holding the bag of blood and the glass of venom, she regarded Carlisle with a challenging look, she wouldn't leave, no matter what he said.
He knew she wanted to help, that she was adamant about this, but Carlisle couldn't just let her expose herself to danger, much less knowing who this boy was, The Major, he might be scared now because he was weak, but no one could tell what he would do once he regained his strength.
Alice might be attached to him, but to him she was nothing but a stranger, he would have no qualms whatsoever over attacking her if he felt threatened.
But he didn't knew who he was , right now, he wasn't The Major, he was Jasper, a frightened and seriously ill boy who was deprived of food and the liberty to move freely for years.
Maybe, just maybe, giving him the benefit of the doubt would be better, Alice did said he would have joined their family alongside her if he hadn't disappeared.
He beckoned Alice to come forward, Jasper did seem to respond better to her, he would need as much of his cooperation as possible if he wanted this to go smoothly, at least as smoothly as it could be, which wasn't much, Jasper had reached a point where he no longer felt hunger.
But once he got a taste of blood… and venom…
He would be hit with the frenzy, which Carlisle couldn't allow, if he drank too much blood or venom at all in his current state he could end up losing himself, against popular belief, it was easier for a vampire to survive starvation, things became dire when they were re-introduced to blood.
And black bloods… they needed venom to function properly, but while venom could aid them it could also poison their minds if they took too much.
Which is why he would only give him one bag of blood and a small glass of venom.
The blood was human.
While he didn't like the idea of giving him human blood he couldn't give him animal blood either. Not when he's been starving for so long, his body was too weak, he needed human blood if he was to have a fast recovery.
-I need you to listen to me, I'm giving you this now, but I will give you more later, I can't give you more right away until I know you won't lose yourself over it, understand?- He told slowly, he needed to be sure Jasper understood that Carlisle wouldn't be denying him more as a form of torture, he had to do it for his own good.
Jasper frowned at him, confusion flashing in his eyes, that until he noticed what Alice was holding, the second he did the second his eyes grew impossibly dark, jaw set tight.
-Alice.- Carlisle called bringing his hand up, silently asking for the bag of blood and the venom, she gave it to him before taking a few steps back, Carlisle himself inched back, putting more distance between him and Jasper, preparing himself to get up.
He put the bag down along with the glass before quickly backing off.
One second.
Two seconds.
Three seconds.
Jasper stared at the objects on the floor.
Four seconds.
Five seconds.
One minute.
And Jasper didn't even attempt to grab anything despite the ravenous hunger in his gaze, fingers curled into fists.
Alice walked up to him, kneeling on the floor and grabbing the bag and glass before offering them to him.
-You do know what this is, right?- Her answer was a blank look.- You want to get better, right? Then you need to start by feeding, it's yours, no one is gonna take it away, it's not tampered with either, I promise.- She assured gently, she could take a sip of the blood to show him, but she didn't think she would have the strength to stop herself, and she didn't want to drink it either.
It was his, he was the one who needed it.
When he didn't answer she sighed, sitting on the floor and putting the glass beside her before grabbing the IV tube from the transfusion bag.
-Alice-
-It will be alright, trust me, he won't hurt me.- She cut off, she knew Carlisle worried, that everyone was worried, doubtful, but she knew Jasper wouldn't hurt her, she had never been so sure of anything in her life.
She didn't care what Edward said, so what if he had a dark past? People could change, and even so, she knew him, she knew how beautiful his heart was, he would never harm anyone on purpose.
She led the IV tube towards his mouth, maybe if he used it like a straw… but he turned his head away, growling in warning.
-I'm not trying to hurt you, it's just blood, aren't you starving?- She questioned, of all things expected she never saw him being so adamant about not drinking the blood, any starving vampire wouldn't hesitate to lung for the tiniest drop of blood put infront of them.
Much less him, there was something about blood that never failed to make Jasper react much more stronger than the regular vampire.
He scowled, glaring at the floor, he was anxious, confused, scared.
And she hated seeing him like that, hated what had been done to him, whatever that was, because Jasper always took pride of his mind, of his skills, and now all of it was seemingly gone.
And Alice's never wanted to tear someone apart as much as she did now.
Because who had done this to him? Why? She couldn't understand.
-If you drink this, and the venom, I will take you outside, don't you want to go outside?- She asked, remembering Edward's words about him wanting to go outside.
That got his attention, she offered him the IV tube again, leading it towards his lips, this time he did, while hesitant, take it, his dark eyes never leaving hers.
-Go on.- She encouraged softly, he took a sip, the second the blood reached him the second his entire body stiffened, for a moment, he froze.
Something almost animalistic flashed in his gaze, she expected him to lash out, to snatch the bag out of her hands, anything.
But he didn't.
He drank the blood at a tortuous slow pace, as if he hadn't been starving for years, it made her instincts reel, wrong, wrong, something was definitely wrong here.
He stared right into her eyes as he drank.
-He's expecting you to snatch it back.- Edward's voice came from downstairs. He sounded as troubled as Alice felt.
Soon he was pulling back.
And there was still blood in the bag, like, it was still half full.
-May– His voice broke and he coughed, clearing his throat.- May I please have the venom now?- Hearing his voice after so long made Alice's throat close, eyes burning, no, she couldn't cry now.
His voice sounded so hoarse though, he had definitely not spoken in a while.
Still.
Something about how polite he spoke… so subdued… it didn't settle well with her.
-He wants the rest of the blood, but he fears that that might upset you, he doesn't want to upset you because he wants you to take him outside…
Edward's words didn't settle well with Alice.
-Hey, this blood is for you, all of it, you can have it all, when you are done feeding I will take you outside, yes?- Alice told, he gave her a wary look, she smiled, hoping to reassure him.
He stared at her for a long moment, seemingly searching for something, when he didn't found it he shakily reached out for the bag, Alice gave it to him.
He quickly brought the bag towards him, he looked at her for a long moment, as if expecting her to take the bag away, when she didn't, he dove down, he didn't bother using the tube, he sank his teeth straight into the bag, tearing the plastic off.
That was more like it.
When he was done he threw the bag on the floor before looking at her, he didn't seem as out of it as she had expected. His eyes were still such a dark pitch, but she knew it would take a while before they regained any color whatsoever.
She offered him the glass filled with Carlisle's venom.
That he snatched it without hesitation, downing the venom in seconds, he shuddered at it before shutting his eyes tightly, for a moment he didn't move, jaw set tight and fingers gripping the glass tightly, though not enough to break it.
Soon enough he was back to normal, carefully placing the glass infront of her.
He gave her a hopeful look.
-Come on, let's go outside now.- She said, offering him her hand, he stared at her hand.- I won't hurt you.- She assured softly, a reassurance she became familiar with throughout the year she had spent with him, she remembers how he had rejected her touch initially.
It had taken her weeks before he grew comfortable with her touch.
It took a moment more before he was reaching out to take her hand.
Alice helped him up, she had to hold most of his weight for he could barely walk on his own, but she didn't mind, they slowly made their way downstairs, Carlisle right infront of them considering Jasper hadn't wanted to move if he had to give his back to Carlisle.
Carlisle had ordered the others to not leave the living room so as to not make him feel cornered.
Alice led Jasper outside to the porch, helping him sit down, he didn't seem to mind that it was still raining a bit, though all things considered he probably hadn't felt the rain in a long, long time.
She sat down with him.
~
-You can't be serious. You want to keep him? You should call Aro while we still have a chance.- Rosalie said briskly, Carlisle couldn't be serious, keeping The Major? A black blood on top of all? What was he trying to do? Get them all killed?
She had been willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for Alice's sake.
Now not so much. She refused to let him be anywhere near Alice, let alone the rest of the family, if the Volturi found out about this they would all die.
That if he didn't kill them all first.
-I won't condemn him like that. Everyone deserves a second chance, he doesn't even know what he's done.- Carlisle said, trying to reason with his daughter.
-So what? He doesn't remember so he's innocent? The thousands of lives he took are unimportant? Just because he doesn't remember it doesn't mean he gets to ignore what he's done. He's not innocent. He's a bloodthirsty monster.
-The bloodthirsty monster is currently laying down on the driveway like a five year old.- Emmett felt the need to inform as he stared outside of the window, Alice was sitting at the bottom of the stairs and the out of extinction black blood Edward claimed to be The Major was laying down on the dirty ground.
He didn't look like a psychopath, if one ignored his appearance of course, he almost looked innocent.
If he was being honest he was quite thrilled over the idea of having a black blood as a brother, they had been extremely strong, they could shapeshift and fly, how fucking cool was that?
Rosalie glared at her husband for the lack of support.
-Rosalie, right now he's harmless, I know the risks, but I can't just send him to be tortured or treated as a lab rat, because that's what the Volturi will definitely do with him, could you really be at peace with yourself knowing you sent someone to be tortured? To be treated as anything but a person?- He asked. Rosalie rolled her shoulders, suddenly feeling uncomfortable over such question.
Of course she didn't, but she couldn't just ignore the fact that he was a ticking bomb either.
-That's not the point! He's dangerous, you are not thinking clearly because you are fixated on the fact that he's innocent, Alice is blinded by the image she got of him when he joined us alongside her, which never happened, and by extension, he's not who she thinks he is, she doesn't know him no matter what she says, she believes he's good, but he isn't.
-But what if he is?- Esme's words shut the room up.- What if he's got good in him but we let our fears and paranoia push him away?
Rosalie clenched her jaw.
-Forgetting what he did doesn't exonerate him, but wouldn't it be better if we showed him mercy and kindness rather than betrayal and pain? Maybe, just maybe, that way, if he does end up remembering what he's done, he will realize there's more to life than just killing and destroying.
And maybe being kind to him would also make him not want to kill them.
Bella left that bit out as she spoke. She had no idea who "The Major" was, but Rosalie and Edward were acting like he was some kind of horror movie monster with no chances at all at redemption.
She was certain it wasn't the black blood issue what had them both so worked up, it would be dumb on their part to judge someone based solely on what they were.
-What if he doesn't? What if he remembers and with it he remembers why he loves killing people so much?- Rosalie refuted.- Think about Renesmee, what if he hurts her?
-If Alice says we can trust him, then I trust him.- Bella told as a statement of fact, Alice could be impulsive and stubborn at times, but there was no one Bella trusted more than her when it came to keeping the family safe.
If Alice said Jasper could be trusted to not harm them, then she trusted her.
-We don't know his circumstances. He's a vampire and he's been acting quite civil. Doesn't that mean it wasn't the transformation what made him go mad? What if he isn't mad in the first place? What if all he needs is understanding and love?- Esme pressed, she didn't believe people were born evil, they became bad because of things that happened to them.
And even that was debatable for some people who went through bad situations still were able to do good.
His attitude right now was proof that he could be good.
-We should give him a chance, everyone deserves a second chance.- Esme said softly.
Rosalie scowled before scoffing and standing up.
-Fine, but when he remembers who he is, I do hope none of us is present to witness the demon that might come out of its cave.
And with that she was gone.
-She's right, it's not wise, but if you want to give him a chance, fine.- Edward told as a statement of fact, he rarely agreed with Rosalie, but she was right, Carlisle wasn't thinking clearly about the danger, none of them were.
He would make sure to tell Jacob to not let Renesmee anywhere near that vampire.
-I'm fine with him staying, he looks fun.- Emmett said, still staring out of the window.
-Bella?- Carlisle asked turning to look at her.
-I think Esme's right, everyone deserves a second chance.
~
Alice could spend the entire day watching Jasper be happy over just laying there on the ground, he was staring at the clouds above in absolute fascination, he looked… free.
So happy over something so simple… it pained her to think that that's probably the happiest he's been probably since Kansas.
She knew not everyone was happy about him staying, mainly because of who he had been, but she couldn't care less about who he had been, she never did.
Or well, she might had have doubts at first, but she had grown to see him through a new light.
And when she met him… she had been unable to not fall for those soulful eyes, and as months went on she had seen it, he wasn't a bad person.
He just had an unfortunate beginning in this life.
But now… he had amnesia, or at least that's what Carlisle suspected.
He didn't remember who he had been and that… it struck close to home. She knew how that felt like, to not remember who you are, to have people chasing after you and not know the reason, of feeling completely alone, like you couldn't trust anyone…
She didn't care what happened, she would protect him no matter what, she would teach him that not everything in the world was pain, anger and death. This time around she wouldn't fail him. She would teach him that the world could also be kind, beautiful, peaceful…
She stared at him for a while. He didn't leave the ground, not even when the rain stopped nor when the sun came back up.
His skin, just like she remembered, sparkled like a broken mirror, or more like little constellations made out of ragged scars, she had almost forgotten how breathtakingly gorgeous he was.
The rain drops gave his glimmering skin an even more ethereal look, she did wonder though, why was he wearing those clothes? Last she remembers he had told her he had buried them somewhere in Texas, so why was he wearing them again?
She still couldn't for the life of her understand half of this situation, why did he forget everything? Who took him? With what motive? Why couldn't she see him until now? Why was he in that church?
She hated not knowing, but it wasn't as if she could get answers from him, he knew nothing, and she hated it, hated not being able to help him, that it had taken her so long to find him, he didn't even know his name.
He looked so innocent over there, it made her wish to hug him, she craved to wrap her arms around him and never let go, hide him from everything and everyone.
But she couldn't.
And it felt like she might fall apart, because he had no idea who she was, and everyone kept talking about him as if she had no idea how he was, and why did she ever thought it would be easier to hide the truth?
She wanted to hug him, but if she did, he might freak out.
She wanted them to shut up about how she had no idea how he was, but she couldn't tell them the truth, something still kept her from it, shame? Fear? She didn't even think she was emotionally stable enough to handle such conversation and the kind of questions that might come from it.
And Jasper… what was she suppose to do with him? Should she tell him the truth? But she didn't even know what he must have gone through. What if telling him the truth just made things worse?
She wanted to at least wait until he was a bit better.
For now, she was just glad he was safe, he looked impossibly marveled at the sun, eyes shining with tears, she heard the breath catch in his throat.
She wished she knew who had chained him there, who had been so cruel to leave him there like some kind of abandoned animal.
And when she found out who did, she was gonna tear them, limb, by, limb.
She was gonna make them beg for death.
No one touched what was hers.
-You should get him back inside, it's not safe for him to be under the sun for so long. And I think it's safe to give him more venom.- Carlisle called as he came to stand outside.
-I don't think he will want to go inside.- Alice said as she watched Jasper stretch his arms at his sides, he grimaced over the action and the movement seemed a bit strained at first, but he still did it.
A good thing about vampires was that they healed faster than humans, he might have spent years without moving, but as long as he fed and moved around regularly he would regain complete mobility rather quickly.
-He's been starving for a long time.- Alice didn't need Carlisle to elaborate on that. She knew what he meant, Jasper was… unusually subdued, any vampire would be crawling up the walls screaming for more blood, in his case, venom too.
Not him.
He was just laying there, in a puddle of mud, under the sun, looking absolutely at peace.
Even when she met him he always had a particular way of reaction to blood, now it was completely gone.
-I will get him.- Alice said, leaving her spot on the steps in order to approach Jasper. The second she was within his range of vision the second he stiffened and his gaze grew guarded, he brought his hands up to clutch his chest.
He was giving her such a pleading look and he looked so small and wrong, it broke her heart to see him like that, and she ended up kneeling so as to stop towering over him.
He didn't relax.
-We should go back inside. You can have another glass of venom.- She said, giving too much venom to a back blood could be dangerous, yes, but that was due a potential overdose, his body right now needed as much venom as possible, and he seemed perfectly aware of his surroundings.
So it was safe to give him more.
Her words though got her a suspicious look.
-Yes.
He sat up slowly, giving her an unreadable expression as he did, she didn't move when he leaned closer to her, black against gold, he seemed to be looking for something in her eyes, what? She didn't knew.
But she kept herself calm.
He tilted his head to the side, as if that somehow would allow him to decipher her secrets, she liked his eyes, they were always so intense, and while his expressions were neutral his eyes were so expressive.
Still.
Of all things expected his next words weren't what she had seen coming.
-The blond man called me Jasper Whitlock. Why?- He seemed hesitant yet determined as he spoke, eyes hard, as if the question was some kind of test.
-It's your name, just like his name is Carlisle and mine's Alice.- Alice answered, quite proud at how steady her voice had come out, because hearing him ask such a thing…
It hit too close.
He narrowed his eyes at her, he was giving her an even more intense look, he was so close she could almost feel his nose bumping into hers.
It took her entire self-control to not just crush him into a hug, to kiss him and hold him closer.
She couldn't do that, she would scare him away.
After what felt like an eternity he pulled back, he still looked suspicious, but at least he wasn't aiming to stare into her soul anymore.
In fact.
He seemed quite happy, and she had a feeling that that had to do with the fact that he now knew his name, she could understand that happiness of finally knowing who you were, it made you feel… real.
And it made her chest tighten, because she could have given anything for him to never have to know that feeling.
For him to never forget himself.
-Come on.- She said, holding her hand out for him to take, he was less hesitant to take it this time, Alice helped him back into the house and straight to the guest room so he wouldn't make a mess on the floor, he wasn't soaking, but he was barefoot and quite filthy, mud and God knows what else staining the floor, even the bandages had soiled.
He left muddy footprints behind, she pulled out the chair from the desk, helping him sit down.
-You should seriously take a shower.- She said, scrunching up her nose, if she was being honest, he smelt quite unpleasant, almost sour, rancid, acid.
Such a familiar stench.
He flinched at her words and she bit her tongue at it, he didn't remember her, he didn't remember their relationship, she shouldn't tease him like that, because right now that was just her being an ass to him, not harmless teasing as she had intended.
-I mean, you were there for a long time, right? Don't you want to clean yourself? Wear fresh clothes? I always feel like a new person after a shower. I can prepare the bathtub for you, it would be more comfortable for you to take a bath seeing that you can't stand on your own.
He was staring at her as if she was speaking another language.
-You do know what's a bathtub, right?
He certainly couldn't have forgotten every single little thing, right?
-I do, but…- He trailed off, looking awfully uncomfortable.
A sudden thought occurred to her.
-I won't stay in the bathroom with you, nor will I help you get in or out of the bathtub, Carlisle will be the one helping you get in the bathtub, then he will leave you and close the door so you can clean yourself, when you are done, just call him and he will help you get out.- She made sure to explain in detail.
For the looks of it that's what had been bothering him because he relaxed ever so slightly.
-He won't stay.- He repeated, as if looking for confirmation, Alice didn't think she liked the why did he even feel the need to ask something so logical, Carlisle nor anyone for that matter had any reason to stay with him while he bathed, he wasn't at risk of dying if he was left unsupervised.
-No, he won't.
He glanced at the clothes on the bed before looking down at himself, he looked troubled.
- He wants to know if he can still have the venom even if he refuses to clean up.
Edward's voice made her frown.
-You don't have to bathe if you don't want to.
-But I stink.
-It doesn't matter, no one is going to force you do anything you don't want to.- Alice told as a statement of fact before going over to the bathroom and getting a few clean towels. She handed them to him.- You should at least dry yourself, and change into dry clothes too, otherwise you are gonna get the floor and the bed all dirty.
Jasper took the towels with a confused look.
When he didn't do anything but stare at her Alice sighed, this before grabbing a towel and drapping it over his shoulders, he flinched at the contact.
-It's alright, I won't hurt you.- She was quick to assure, her voice soft, she tilted his face up before starting to wipe away at his face, careful with the yet to heal cuts on his face, there were several similar scars, she wondered for how long had he had that muzzle, how many times had he clawed at his own face.
She could feel his stare, she had to admit it made her a bit nervous, he looked at her with such strange fascination, awe, it gave her a funny feeling.
Like a deja Vu.
Because that's the same expression he had put on when they first met.
He had several new bite marks across his jawline she found the more she wiped at the grim on his face. There was also a new thin scar at the corner of his mouth. She wondered if he had done so himself, she had scolded him several times in the past whenever he bit his lip.
Their eyes met and not for the first time she finds herself feeling transfixed by them, they are so sad, lonely, but at the same time there's such a sparkle in them, like there's still hope blazing fiercely in his heart even after all life had thrown at him, such soulful eyes, so intense.
And for a moment, it feels like she's staring at her Jasper, like they are back in 1949.
She doesn't notice how close she's gotten to him until someone clears their throat behind her and she jumps.
Emmett stands by the doorway with a shit eating grin, Alice wants to throw the towel at him, but she doesn't, Jasper starts growling instantly and she quickly turns towards him.
-Hey, it's alright, it's just Emmett, you remember Emmett right? I told you before, he looks really scary but he's actually really nice.- She tries to appease, that doesn't stop his growling nor his glare.
-Chillax dude, I'm super cool, look, I even got you food.- Emmett said, raising the glass of venom infront of him, that shut Jasper immediately, he frowned at Emmett in absolute confusion.
-Dude, he has absolutely no idea what you just said aside from the food part.- Edward was laughing downstairs as he spoke and Emmett scowled at his brother, thinking very hard about that picture with the finger that said "Fuck you" in big letters.
Still.
-I'm a good guy, dude, I mean you no harm whatsoever, pinkie promise.- Emmett said rising his finger for more emphasis.
He still got a wary look, but at least Jasper wasn't looking at him like he would either rip his head off or expect Emmett to be the one ripping his head off.
Alice approached him and held her hand out for the glass. He gave her a shit eating grin and she glared at him.
Aw she was getting shy on him, too bad, because Emmett's main goal in life was messing with his siblings, even more so if they had any crushes or anything of the like, and he knew for a statement of fact that while Alice never actually met soldier boy she had fallen head over heels for him.
Emmett glanced behind her, Jasper glared at him, maybe it was meant to be, because why else would he warm up to Alice so quickly after what he had been through?
The only explanation would be that, that he and Alice were seriously soulmates, Emmett knew better than anyone how it felt like, to feel safe and warm in the presence of a complete stranger and have no idea why can't you bring yourself to mistrust them one bit.
He had felt like that with Rosalie when he first saw her.
He hadn't known her, and still, something deep within him had awakened, a feeling that let him know he was perfectly safe with her.
The world could be in flames, but as long as she was with him nothing would ever be wrong.
