Rarepair week 2023
Free day-Splat ball Tag
Gonta/Rantaro.
It was a good thing Rantaro wasn't an epileptic cause he was pretty sure he'd of had an attack within the last hour with all the lights flashing.
"NOOO! You stupid little shit cheated there's no way you saw me!" Miu screamed at who he could only assume was kokichi. It was hard to tell since the rave music Ibuki had chosen was vibrating across the laser tag field. One bored day in class Gonta mentioned things he had only seen on TV and wasn't able to experience since he got lost in the woods as a kid. The second the concept of laser tag and splat ball tag got mentioned Rantaro was pretty surprised he'd be into it. They combined both games into one big field that the ultimate park ranger allowed them to borrow for the afternoon.
Miu invented the laser paint guns, Ibuki provided the "background battle music" apparently needed, and his class along with others provided the team players.
Sure no one was getting hurt but since Gonta often prioritized keeping clean he was surprised Gonta would be into something so messy. Then again his talent did revolve around going through a lot of messy places to find and hunt bugs he supposed. Much like Gonta he also hadn't really experienced this kind of fun much since he was busy worrying about his missing sisters. Every day was a different kind of adventure with his class and it was fascinating to see them really get into their elements.
"Tsumugi, is on the tree to the left 7 meters away to your right." Gonta whispered. The entomologist had surprisingly good eyesight even in the foggy dark and flickering of light on the field. Rantaro wasn't a stranger to scouting in the dark but that was seriously impressive.
"Got it". He moved in and aimed carefully before firing. The buzz of confirmation from the team score counter confirmed he made a hit. He almost got hit in the head with return fire if not for Gonta pulling him back. Both sprinted for cover where a broad tree stood.
"Thanks Gonta, that was close. For someone who's never played this your pretty good."
"Your welcome!" The was a mostly quiet pause in conversation save for the occasional blasts going off around them and screams of their friends.
"Actually I had a question I've been wanting to ask after the game. Is that okay?" Gonta said just loud enough for Rantaro to hear without giving their location. His face looked around nervously before looking back at him. Rantaro smiled with a nod before they both ducked out of the way from sudden poorly aimed barrage at their tree.
A few hours later after everyone was exhausted and cleaned up they separated in pairs to start heading home. Rantaro tried to find Gonta but couldn't seem to find the larger teen anywhere. He wondered if Gonta had forgotten him and left until he felt a vibration from his phone. Checking the name he saw a message coming from Gonta.
Me:"Hey Gonta, where did you go?
Goku: "Yes, I'm so sorry! Mom wanted me to run an errand and came earlier then I thought she would."
Ever since being found his parents tried being more involved with him which Rantaro kind of envied.
Me: "Oh, that's alright then. Wasn't there something you wanted to tell me though?"
Goku: "Yes, if it isn't to much trouble I want to to help in your travels as a thank you the next time you leave. The whole class and you always help me and I want to help back. You helped me get better at speaking Japanese with a bit of English and now you've helped me have fun here today. I want to experience more things while helping you all in return like coffee."
Rantaro couldn't help but smile at the proposal but didn't like how Gonta phrased it. For many people it takes way more years then just one to master a language. When he first met Gonta he would speak in broken third person. Him and a few classmates who were fluent in other languages were able to find methods to help him improve his language skills. It wasn't easy for Gonta at first but once they found the right techniques he blazed through his language and writing homework.
Me: "Hey now there's no reason to thank me or any of us Gonta. Sure we gave you a hand here and there but don't downplay your own efforts. I'm no language teacher but you were a good listener and quick study which is why you got better so fast. As for my sisters sure, I've been stubborn with trying to find them alone and even turned down help but that's something I'm trying to unlearn myself. Why coffee though?"
A long pause passed and he wondered briefly if Gonta left him on read until a message finally appeared with a blushing emoji.
Goku:"I've heard trying to go out for different coffee with someone is a good way to bond when you want to be closer. At least that's what some of the books I read said. Is that not okay?"
The books Gonta read on how to socialize and be a gentlemen were interesting though pretty cheesy romance action novels.
Me: "Hmm, well that kind of sounds more like a date considering what books I've seen you read. Not objecting though. There's a place in Manchester in the UK I know that's got pretty great coffee I'm planning to go there next anyway."
Goku: ^_^ I'm so happy to here that. Its a date then and I hope to help the best I can.
While he wasn't honestly sure how much help Gonta could actually be he was grateful for the help. He was sure they'd have a good time regardless of what happened.
