White emptiness surrounded Kaneki's head again, relieving him from any thoughts, numbing him from any pain. He slept in a deep slumber, laying in the void. The serene background entered his body, and relaxed every tense muscles.
My Kaneki...
A distant child's voice rang into his ears as his eyes slowly opened, adjusting to his surroundings. He felt a soft hand on his cheek that shook gently.
My Kaneki...
The voice of an angel became more distinct, making his eyes sparkle back to reality.
He made out a smiling face, and a red light flashing from the right eye. The familiar green hair waved down from her face.
"E...to?" Kaneki mumbled.
"Time to wake up, Kaneki-kun." The same angelic voice came out of her lips. Kaneki began feeling dizzy as memories threatened to break his mind again.
That voice... I've heard it before... It was special to me somehow...
He felt small, but firm hands pull him up from his sleeping position. Slowly standing up, his eyes remained on Eto's face as she stood below him. The taste of her flesh still lingered in his mouth.
"What... do you want?" Kaneki asked slowly.
Eto smiled a little and pointed her fingers behind him.
"Just helping you to know who you are." Eto whispered into his ears behind him, and pressed her chest into his back, making goosebumps cover Kaneki's back. However, he he was distracted very soon when a swirl of colors splattered the white around them, like a pallet of paint.
Then the image became clearer and clearer, making Kaneki inhale in awe.
Flashes of memories appeared.
They were inside a small, dark, room. "Look at you, Kaneki-kun." Eto's voice called out from behind. Kaneki's eyes landed on himself, who was trembling with tears on the verge of dripping down his eyes. He was kneeling down, his face pointing up..
Kaneki gasped.
...
There wasn't any hint of pain on Nashiro's face as blood stained her clothing red. There were only satisfaction for saving her sister, and a tinge of confusion as she lost consciousness.
Kurona's eyes opened in terror as she watched the eyes of her sister close slowly.
"S-Shiro..." She whispered weakly, still shocked at what happend.
Eyes completely closed, Nashiro's tranquil expression remained on her face covered in blood as she tumbled to the floor. Quickly, Kurona caught her by the head and the waist before she landed on the floor.
"Shiro! Shiro!" Tears began forming in her eyes as she shouted desperately.
"N-No... Shiro..." She began crying miserably, lowering her head onto her sister's red stomach, and held her motionless, and light body in her arms.
Noro watched silently far away.
Nashiro's eyes are directed towards him with full of vengeance.
Suddenly, Kurona felt a small hand brush against her side. Simultaneously turning her tear-covered eyes towards Nashiro's head, she noticed her small lips slightly trembling. Kurona gasped in surprise and joy at seeing this.
"S-Shiro?" She asked dumbly, then immediately picked her up, and stared at Noro with hatred.
I cannot fight this monster. If I can get Shiro to Papa quick enough, then, maybe... maybe...
Gritting her teeth, Kurona raced towards Noro, Nashiro in her arms.
Without bothering to prepare, Noro stood tall as his kagune slithered to his front, bracing Kurona's charge. However, at the last moment, Kurona suddenly leaped impossibly high, and over the kagune.
Because Noro was focused on defending his front, his kagune didn't reach her in time as she jumped over him, and shot through the door towards the lab.
...
Eto stood with her arms around the other Kaneki's face, and his eyes sparkled full of hope, as if he was gazing at a god.
"W-What is this? I-Is this my past?" Kaneki shivered as he asked. "Papa didn't tell me about this."
"Yes, Kaneki-kun. You were mine in the past." Eto's arms closed around Kaneki's abdomen. Turning his head in wonder, Kaneki saw Eto's small smile. "This is just a small part of your memory. I can show you the rest of it."
Kaneki looked down in doubt.
"But... But what if you try and deceive me again?" Kaneki asked with a little worry in his voice.
"Do you remember my voice?" Eto asked, making Kaneki gasp again. "Do you remember my taste?" She asked again, this time in a whisper as she looked up at him with melting eyes.
"We are inside your mind, my Kaneki. Everything in here is the truth..."
Eto released her grip on his body, and slowly circled around him until she was in front of him. Then, she rested her hands on his shoulders as she pushed him downwards. Kaneki felt his legs weaken automatically, as if his body was responding to her touch.
He kneeled down and gazed up at her, similar to the Kaneki he saw in his vision.
"...and that's all I'm offering." Eto spoke with a soft voice, and pressed her lips down onto his.
As soon as he felt her lips close around his, Kaneki's eyes widened in shock. A flood of memories penetrated his defense through Eto's tongue. Instinctively, his arms closed around her. She dug her tongue further into his mouth as Kaneki felt a surge of euphoria.
The truth... my past... Eto...
Kaneki's hair turned pitch black.
Everything around him glowed a bright light, and Eto's touch slowly faded away.
...
"Papa! Please save Shiro!" Kurona pleaded hopelessly.
Dr. Kanou looked in surprise as he saw Kurona carry an unconscious Nashiro, racing towards him. However, a small smile appeared on his face after.
"It's too late, Kurona."
"No! She's still moving! Barely, but she is still alive!" Kurona shouted with tears.
"It's too late, I said. Nashiro is gone. You'll make new friends." Dr. Kanou said with an entertained face as his eyes remained on the unconscious Kaneki and half of Eto's body. I can't deal with these stupid twins right now.
"B-But, Papa! Save my sister!" Kurona was beyond shocked at how composed Dr. Kanou was.
"Kurona, you need to move on." Dr. Kanou shrugged.
Kurona froze.
"A-Are you insane? S-Shiro is still alive. Why... Why won't you..." Kurona's hopeless plead was interrupted by Dr. Kanou's gasp. "Yes! Kaneki is awake!" He exclaimed.
...
Kaneki's two human eyes shot open. Sitting up quickly, he panted and glanced at his surroundings.
It was Dr. Kanou's laboratory.
Suddenly remembering something, he looked over to Eto's ripped-in-half body. His heart skipped a beat. Immediately, he crawled over to her top half in a kneeling position
"Eto!" He watched in horror at Eto's unmoving body.
"No, stay with me, Eto." He whispered softly, and touched her cheeks. They were as cold as ice. Shuddering, Kaneki slowly removed his hand, his eyes glued on her peaceful face. I love you, Kaneki Ken. Kaneki thought as if he heard her speak into his mind.
Then, he gritted his teeth, and clenched his eyes. When he reopened them, black veins cracked his left eye, flaring a bright, scarlet light.
His head turned towards Dr. Kanou, who was standing on the bridge, confused.
"Kaneki-kun, what are you doing? Come here to your pap-"
He was interrupted by the bursting of kakuhous as Kaneki's four rinkaku kagunes shot out around him. His dark expression matched his black hair.
"I have had enough of lies."
To be continued...
