Stefan's POV

2011

Bonnie stepped closer, "Stefan..." Bonnie whispered. She then continued "What happened?" She seemed frightened of what I would say. But I'm sure she already knew the answer. It's what we all feared.

I look back at her frightened of the answer as well, "I think Elena is in trouble and you may be the only person who can help her."

Shocked filled her features "What?"

"What I mean is we need to find a way to send you back that may be the key to get her home."

The rest of the gang walked into the room. They seemed a bit surprised except for Damon as usual. "How do you suppose we send her back?" Damon asked.

Caroline realized that, "We use the spellbook that sent Elena back in time in the first place."

I turned to Bonnie and asked "But do you want to do this?"

Bonnie looked perplexed, "You're asking me if I want to do this?" She crossed her arms and moved her index finger and thumb to her chin rubbing it. She was stressed, but who wouldn't be? A decision like this wasn't easy to make.

"Why are you asking me? Everyone usually just expects me to just do it? And suck it up?" We all looked and felt guilty because of this. How could we have done this to her? To say the least we needed to be better friends towards her.

"Perhaps you've suffered enough. And you should be given the choice. You shouldn't be forced. And you shouldn't have to if you don't want to or you're not ready or for whatever reason. You've lost and suffered a great deal and for that I'm sincerely sorry. I'm sure you do want to help Elena but your happiness shouldn't be the price to pay. Whatever you choose, know that we will find another way."

Bonnie's features broke out into a smile, a soft and bright one at that. "Thank You, Stefan, that means a lot to me." She paused, she seemed to be trying to think carefully about what she was about to say. I nodded hoping she would continue. "Why now?"

"I've noticed for a while but was too cowardly to speak up and for that I am so sorry."

A small smile graced her face, "it's okay, better late than never." She sighed, "How can I not help my best friend? If I can do it I'm gonna do it." She had this look in her eye, determination.

"No! No way! You are not doing this!" Damon yelled.

"Yes I am." Bonnie retorted.

"But she isn't gonna be alone." Caroline stood up moving to Bonnie's side. Bonnie raised her eyebrow. "Are you coming with me?"

"Of course I am, that's what friends are for!" Caroline beamed at her and Bonnie smiled just as bright.

Damon gave in, "Alright, you can go." So he finally relented.

"You're not letting me do anything, I make my own choices."

"Smart and dependent, that's what I like to hear."

"Good because that's how it's gonna be." Damon nodded in understanding.

Jeremy had been quiet for most of time, which in all honesty was…out of character. "Jeremy?"

He looked up at me, "Everything alright?" I asked.

"Not really, how do we know that everything will work out? How do we know all of them will come back alive? How do we know Elena will be okay? Don't you think this is risky? Bonnie could be killed or worse!" He was out of breath and was trembling. He was extremely worried for Elena.

"As much as I hate to say this, it might not be but we have to try for Elena. That is the best thing we can do for her." I put my arm on his shoulder trying to comfort him. He nodded but I could tell he still looked unsure and worried. But it was understandable I felt the same way.

"How can I help?" He looked at me with pleading eyes.

"You can help but staying here she wouldn't want you to get yourself in this mess. She wouldn't want any of us to but the least we can do is keep you safe."

Caroline added, "Let's be honest I think she'd kill us if we didn't." Bonnie nodded to that, and honestly it's probably true.

"Alright I'll stay, but if you need help let me know."

"We will." We all said in unison. Jeremy nodded and turned to go upstairs. He looked like he was deep in thought, he must have been worried sick poor kid.

"Alright then! Little Gilbert is out of the picture so now what do we do?"

Bonnie spoke up "We get Emily's grimoire and use the spell I found."

"Where is it exactly?" Damon asked.

"Umm…It's still at Elena's house."

"Why?" Caroline questioned. We all turned to Bonnie waiting for an answer. "I wasn't sure if it was safe to touch and I was freaking out when my best friend disappeared from thin air." She said with a hint of sarcasm in her tone.

"I mean she's got a point there." Caroline thought. "How about you and I head to Elena's house, grab the grimoire and we'll all meet back here?"

"Sounds like a plan, Blondie." Damon said. I nodded to that.

"How about Damon and I get everything set up while you all do that."

Bonnie nodded, "Sounds like a plan."

"Wanna take my car?" Caroline asked

"Yes." They were headed for the door when Damon asked "Can I talk to you for a second BonBon?"

"Of course."

Caroline turned to Bonnie, "I'll be in the car." And with that she left.

"Bonnie, be careful please." She cupped his face and whispered "I will. I love you, Damon." "I love you too Bonnie." Bonnie leant forward and pressed her lips to Damon's. I turned away because it didn't feel right to intrude on their moment.

After a moment Bonnie left to the door leaving Damon and I alone. After a moment he spoke up "We should start shouldn't we?"

"Yes."

Damon smirked, "Then let's do this."

"Alright then." And with that we started to clear space and get ready for this spell.

Stefan's POV

1864

I walked into the living area, I had taken a walk into the town area earlier, I've needed some time to think about some things. For one what is going on with Elena? Why is she so scared of Katherine? What could have she possibly done? I was in such deep thought I hadn't noticed running into my brother, Damon. And I don't mean figuratively I mean quite literally ran into him. We collided together and then both of us fell to the ground. "Ah!" We both yelled in unison. Damon started to get up, and I asked "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. I have to go." Damon fully got up and left me feeling very bewildered. 'What is it with everyone acting weird?' I watched as he left and something in me screamed danger. 'Perhaps I could go talk to Elena?' I walk towards the stairs and head to Elena's room. Once I arrive at her door I knock but I hear no response, no indication anyone's in there. I know it's ungentleman-like to walk into a ladies room but I just want to make sure she's alright. I carefully turn the doorknob and push the door open. I notice once I walk in the room that her mirror is laying on the ground. Something felt wrong, I felt like something bad happened to her. I need to talk to my father. I know something is wrong and Damon is connected and maybe even Katherine too. I hold the mirror tightly as I leave Elena's room. I closed the door and headed to my father's study. I didn't always trust my father but I'm desperate for help. They say you do crazy things for love. And they're right.

Elena's POV

Everything was black until it suddenly wasn't. I felt myself stir awake as I saw a blinding light. I felt groggy as I regained consciousness. I moved to turn and cover my face with my arm. After a second I moved my arm away as I looked around and I saw the beautiful sunset Stefan had shown me only a few days ago. Wait, what was I doing here? The least thing I remembered was hitting my head hard. My head pounded, I needed to get up and find a way out of here. The ground felt rough and I moved to sit up. I looked to my left where I saw Emily. 'What was she doing here?' And that's when realization hit me, Katherine. Katherine kidnapped us. I ran to her side as I shook to wake her up "Emily you have to get up! We have to go!" I whispered loudly. She started to open her eyes, shock and worry filled her features. I knew what was coming.

As I said this, I heard someone say "You won't be going anywhere." I was right it was Katherine. I whipped around to face her, I felt dread wash over me as I looked into her dark eyes. She smirked as she saw the fear in my frightened eyes. I wondered to myself, 'Was she here to kill me, torture me, or worse turn me?' Luckily I wasn't tied to a chair but unluckily Katherine's a vampire and It's not like I can make a run for it. Vampire's have heightened senses and are strong and fast as well. So if I tried to run she would be able to catch me before a blink of an eye.

She tilted her head to the side, "Hello Elena. Or should I say Gilbert. Oh, oh or should I say my descendant." She leaned forward, smirking. I felt blood drain from my face. 'How did she know? How did she figure it out?' She was leaning against a tree towards the side.

She looked frighteningly excited as she said, "I wanted to take you to a very special place for what I'm about to do."

I mustered any sort of courage I had as I said, "What would that be?" Bitterness that's all I could feel at the moment, 'oh how things have gone terribly wrong. What am I gonna do?' I thought to myself.

"To turn you of course and torture you as well." She said, smiling wickedly. I felt myself tense, I held onto Emily for dear life. She had done so much for me, I had to at least try to protect her.

"Let her go, she hasn't done anything."

Katherine laughed, as she said "She hasn't done anything?"

"She's done the worst thing imaginable!"

"And what would that be?"

"She betrayed me! By helping You!" She sped towards me, towering over me. I felt even more tense than before. 'Is that even possible?' I started to tremble as well. I tried to calm myself. I can't let her win. She emphasized the you part, she was angry. She looked as if she would burst at any moment.

She turned away as she said, "You must be wondering how I figured it out." She started to pace, "I'll take your silence as my answer."

"You know you could have been more careful but then again this really worked out in my favor so I guess I'm glad." She turned back to meet my gaze, "Stop me if I'm wrong your not a Gillett but a Gilbert, your my doppelganger, and you are most definitely not from this time."

I mustered all my pride, "You're got it all wrong. I just got a similar last name but I'm not Gilbert it's just not possible. And It's just a coincidence I look like you." I said with every bit of confidence I had."

"You're right about the first part but not the second part. And you forgot to mention the future part as well." She said inching closer. My eyes widened and my heart race increased. "One thing you should learn about Vampires is to never lie, we can hear when your heart increases." After she said that she whipped around and hit me hard. I fell to the ground and unconsciousness took me over once again.

Giueppe's POV

I was looking over some paperwork for the next council meeting when I looked up from my work and noticed my son came into my study. He stood by the door, he looked unsure. I also noticed he looked exceedingly worried. What could have him so…troubled?

I stood up from my desk, "Come closer my son. What troubles you?" He moved to my desk, as he said "It's about Elena. Well not just Elena it's Damon too."

"What do you mean?"

He shook his head, he most definitely seemed unsure of what he was about to say. "Earlier I ran into Damon but something feels off, something wrong I know it sounds crazy I'm just worried, Father." I nodded and asked, "What of ?"

"I went to see her just a few minutes prior and she wasn't in her room."

"And ?"

"I haven't seen her but granted I have been in town for most of the day so I can't be sure…" He trailed off.

"You love her don't you?"

"Who?" ? No!"

I pinched the bridge of my nose, "No I didn't mean I meant ."

"Yes."

I quirk my eyebrow he loved ? Well that wasn't surprising I see the way they look at each other. I would be surprised if he didn't. I smirk as I say "I approve."

Stefan's face goes red, "Y-you w-what?"

"I approve of your courtship with . Any fool could tell you and her love each other."

"But what should I do about Damon? Where could Elena be?"

"Don't jump to conclusions my son. Perhaps she left for town for some time. Perhaps you could go looking. And for Damon, I'll talk to him."

"Alright, then I'll go check around town." He got up from his seat but I halted him, "Wait Before you go there's something I'd like you to have just in case." I opened a drawer from my desk and grabbed a small vial of vervain. Confusion crossed his face, "What is that?"

"Just something that might come in handy. If you get in a bad situation like if someone tries to attack you, use this-" I emphasize the bottle holding it carefully. "And toss it at the attacker." I gave the vial to him, he examined it carefully. "How should this help shouldn't I try to grab something heavy and hit it at the attacker rather than use this?" He looks back at me with confusion.

"It's called vervain and it's used to fight against demons known as vampires."

He shook his head in disbelief, "Vampires do not exist."

"Yes they do, believe it or not but please just take it in case something does happen."

"Fine. Thank You, father." He turned to walk away as I whispered, "You're welcome." It seems tonight we will find out who the Vampire is. Katherine or Elena.

Caroline's POV

We finally arrived at the Gilbert house. Bonnie and I close my car doors and head to the door. She opens the house door, We head upstairs to Elena's room. I motion for her to open her door and she nods in return. She turned the doorknob and swung the door open. And that is when we both realized.

The grimoire was glowing. We both turned to each other but before we could do anything we were being pulled towards the grimoire. As we got closer Bonnie looked at me, I knew what she had to do, what we had to do. What we had to do to save Elena. I reached for her hand and held it firmly with mine. She started to mutter the incantation "Translatio in alium locum vel temps." And that is when everything went black.

Stefan's POV

1864

I walked out of my father's office and headed outside. I started to think of places where she might be, 'Where would she go?' After a minute I thought 'What about that place in the forest I showed her?' I think I should check there. I have a feeling she might be there. I hope she's alright, something about the way Damon was acting felt off, wrong. And how she just disappeared, something about that doesn't seem right. She isn't that type of person to just run off or say nothing without a word. Perhaps I'm being paranoid or over protective but I have to make sure she's okay.

I knew I was being irrational but I couldn't ignore that gut feeling that kept nagging at me.

I walked to the ends of town and finally found the forest. This could be dangerous. I wonder, is my father right about Vampires? I don't know if I believe it but at least I have some vervain to help me? I wonder if it's even going to do much good?

Alright let's focus on the positive not the negative. I need to focus on finding Elena.

I started to walk through the forest, I felt a light breeze hit my face as I walked. I heard leaves crackle as I walked. The trees looked stunning in tonight's lighting. But most of all I noticed the sun was setting, it looked beautiful. Sadly, I didn't have time to look any longer.

I needed to stay focused on her. I needed to stay determined. As I inched closer to our spot I noticed something odd. There seemed like a figure of some sort. I squint my eyes and realize that it was Katherine. What was she doing? As I stepped closer and closer I realized she was towering over someone. A girl? And then there was someone else off to the side. 'I need to get closer' I thought to myself. As I kept getting closer I saw that it wasn't just any girl it was Elena. And I believe Emily was the one off to the side. What was Katherine doing?

I don't believe it would be a good idea if I intervened now. I need a plan, I don't want anyone to get hurt for my foolishness. I move behind a tree to listen in and see if I can find anything out.

"You know you could have been more careful but then again this really worked out in my favor so I guess I'm glad." She turned back to meet Elena's gaze, "Stop me if I'm wrong your not a Gillett but a Gilbert, your my doppelgänger, and you are most definitely not from this time."

'What is that supposed to mean? She can't be Gilbert not unless they have a child without anyone knowing. I mean it isn't impossible, but why lie to everyone? What could she mean by doppelgänger? What is a doppelgänger? But most of all what does she mean she isn't from this time?'

Elena stood tall and she seemed to be trying to stand up to Katherine, "You're got it all wrong. I just got a similar last name but I'm not Gilbert it's just not possible. And It's just a coincidence I look like you."

"You're right about the first part but not the second part. And you forgot to mention the future part as well." She said inching closer. "One thing you should learn about Vampires is to never lie, we can hear when your heart increases." 'I felt shocked. She's a vampire!? Is that why father gave me the vervain because he suspected something?' After she said that she whipped around and hit Elena hard. She fell to the ground and she seemed to be unconscious.

I needed to help her, perhaps I should get some help from Damon or my father? But there's no time! At this point I have no idea what Katherine is capable of. I can't risk hurting -Gilb-Elena or . I turn away for a second and then when I look back she's gone.

'Where could she have gone?' And the realization hit me, I slowly turned around and I saw her. Fear trickled through my body. I watched as she slowly inches closer to me, I felt helpless like I couldn't do anything. And I was right. I couldn't just run, I wouldn't get far enough and I can't just abandon or Gilbert and . In other words I let her win. "Ooh Someone has been mettling where they shouldn't be." She clicks her tongue and waves her pointer finger, before I know it she grabs the back of my neck and hits me hard against the tree. And everything went black.
