On My Own
Chapter 1
Author Notes: I...actually can't believe I'm back writing a long series for Yugioh-and at Sen's request even. This has been a weird year. Don't even get me started on the quarantine issues!(this was written back in 2020 ) But ce la vie. Time to get this shindig going.
As mentioned before in another story (His Silent Scream)... even though I use the characters from the first three series of Yugioh. Each series has it's own canon, plot points and main protagonists taking center stage.
So with that being said we're in the 5d's series this time around. As per usual get ready for some head benders-as there will be references to two other series(one anime movie, the other a video game) but this isn't a legitimate crossover so i am not counting it. I do not own Yugioh~ Let's go!
3rd P.O.V
"Again!" A grunt escaped the young teen as continuously smashed his fist again the heavy bag set up for him. "Keep up the momentum Yusei. Again." He had been at it for hours now, putting everything he had into the training regiment his father had for him.
The poor boy was only thirteen, yet his will was strong, his passion meeting all of the elder man's expectations. Yusei was already used to this, having been doing it for a couple years already, he knew how to strike and where. The various combat drills and commands echoing in his mind as his fist flew.
His old man had his arms crossed behind his back as he watched with narrowed eyes. But no matter how determined he was-his body faltered in stance. His one second of fatigue caused his form to sway. The force of his strike made his hand skid, scraping against the rough fabric, ripping through the skin.
He gritted his teeth, preventing any sound of weakness from escaping, but it didn't make the injury any less painful. Within seconds his knuckles were tainted red, slowly traveling through the surface of his flesh. "Enough. That will be all for tonight."
Isao Fudo was a tough, disciplined man, having been a veteran of the J-IPA for nearly twenty years now. To him, strength came from the heart, ones motivations determined the type of character one could become.
In his line of work it was easy to lose sight of yourself to temptation and corruption. And though he never believed Yusei to fall into such a state, he wanted his boy to be strong. Strong, wise and responsible. Someone who he believed would continue his legacy-whether he retired or perished mattered very little.
Should something ever happen to him, he wanted the teen to be prepared and adaptable for whatever came his way. "Yes father." Though he knew it would be a difficult path to force onto such a child, Isao had high hopes.
Despite being so young, Yusei already showed promise of being compassionate and was rather bright for his age. Those traits grew alongside his power and stamina. In general he was Isao's treasure, his pride and joy.
Even if his sister and son had no idea Why Isao was so insistent on training the boy day and night when he was home, they never questioned him or his methods. He was strict, but he was also a family man, doing whatever it took to ensure their safety.
Especially when his wife refused to take care of Yusei when he was born. Stating she didn't want to be a mother. He was still very angry at that comment. And made sure that she paid every single cent in child's support for just up and abandoning them to her selfish luxuries no matter where she was.
"You did very well tonight Yusei. Go take a shower and get ready for bed." Quietly he approached his son, giving a small pat to his head. "Kay." Nodding in affirmation Yusei does as he's told, knowing if he didn't hurry his limbs would give up on him. They were unstable from his workout.
It wouldn't be the first time he's practically fallen asleep in the basement because he didn't have the energy to move. Still he paused at the starting steps towards the upper floor. Glancing over his shoulders he gives a timid smile. "Night dad."
There was a moment of pause in Isao's stature, before giving a warm, soft smile to his son. "Goodnight Yusei." Satisfied, the preteen makes his way upstairs, just faintly hearing the sound of ringing. "Isao speaking." His father didn't follow him to the upper floor, choosing to speak privately to whoever is on the other line.
Yusei could only sigh as his face sobered. Knowing his father, the call was more than likely from his employer. He was going to be sent out on another job. "I hope he doesn't have to leave tomorrow...he just got home." Considering his luck however that was probably going to be the case.
Of course it wasn't truly a bad thing. When his dad left for work, Yusei would stay at his aunt Martha's who was the sweetest woman ever. But he couldn't deny how much he missed his dad. The man was the literal definition of a workaholic, always keeping busy in some way shape or form.
But the last couple years he's been gone more often then not, and it made Yusei treasure these small moments. "Maybe if he's still here I can ask him if he can do a game with me." Muttering to himself Yusei followed the typical routine after his training segment.
Stripping his clothes he hops into the shower, getting cleaned up. At first the hot water made the cracks in his skin sting, releasing a small hiss. But as soon as it came the painful sensation left, blood fading away to merge with the water.
The steaming droplets attacked his back as he scrubbed the sweat off, doing a quick clean before getting out. Wrapping his hair and body in a towel he grabs the medical kit up on the upper shelf in the bathroom.
With how often he tended to injure himself, whether from accident or training he could bandage himself in his sleep. And on some occasions actually did with how exhausted he ended up being. Wincing his eyes, he was easily able to find the opening and bandage it.
"Not as bad as it could've been. The spots annoying though." A quick patch up, a swift dry off and then pulled on a t-shirt and sweatpants, his eyes half lidded. His feet were aching as they carried him just that last bit of distance towards his bed.
Practically tripping over his own feet as his fingers feel soft covers. There's no resistance as he falls, sighing into a deep sleep the moment his head lands on the mattress. Sleep so deep he is completely unfazed when his father catches him in such a position and chuckles.
Not even stirring when the elder man tucks him under the covers and checks his hand. Unsure if he should be proud of the way Yusei expertly handled the injury or sad at the fact that he had to push his son so far every time he was home.
His calloused fingers push the dark locks away from the sleeping child's face, revealing an expression of complete serenity. Making him actually look his age. Though he was only thirteen Yusei looked much older with his height and calm expressions.
Most tended to think he was sixteen-seventeen even with how mature he was. It didn't help the kid was nearly the spitting image of his old man, inheriting his naturally narrowed eyes and sharp face. "Sweet dreams Yusei."
With a soft kiss to his forehead Isao rises from the bed, heading to his own room. As his son suspected he was sent on another assignment. One where much to their astonishment...he wouldn't return from.
To Be Continued
Author Notes: Ending it there~ For the record J-IPA is a made up organization that will be discussed in the future, but just note that it is an important group that Isao belongs to. Like government group. Be sure to guess what J-IPA stands for as I'm curious.
Now for the name, when I looked up Yusei's dad(because I didn't watch the full series of 5d's and only vaguely remembered him.) I just kept finding Dr. Fudo with no first name(and I didn't really care lol) So I figured let's look up some good names for the guy and give a new identity.
Isao can mean honor/ merit which is what made him the character he is in this story. And that's mainly due to some of the names(and their meanings) weren't really doing it for me. I looked for darkness, death, shadow, to give a more mystery feeling for him and it wasn't cutting it.
Fed up I just looked at Japanese names and got hooked onto this one. Not sure what will happen in the next chapter since Sen is in inner debate mode about whether or not he wants to read this story before being finished and put input into it.
But that's for me to worry about.(surprise he forgot all about it, so a good chunk of this is written lol) Guys if you like this story please feel free to fav/follow/review as it would mean a crap ton to me. Tchao for now.
