Disclaimer: I don't own Majikoi or its respective content and creators. I only my OC.
AN: Before you start reading I wanted to preface this story by adding on this extra disclaimer about certain elements of this new Majikoi story of mine. Years ago, I had a previous Majikoi story up but I wasn't happy with it so I took it down.
This one is much more traditional in that I only have one OC in this unlike a group dynamic like before. In this version it'll be just one character and one character ONLY.
To finish off this story is an attempt to be a kind of spiritual successor to I'm A Gamer, Seriously. A Majikoi story that has unfortunately not been updated in quite a few years so I hope that this will do it justice. So if there's anything that sounds or feels similar that's why.
I will actually be incorporating a sort of Gamer-like mechanic but just something a bit more… unorthodox. If any of you have heard or seen the game Samurai Maiden… you'll know what I mean.
Well enough on that… Enjoy!
Prologue – Part 1
First Day At Kawakami Academy
Date – April 22nd
Have you ever had that awkward feeling when you're asleep; the one where as soon as you lay your head on the pillow and then blink suddenly it's morning like you got no sleep?
Yeah?
Well take that feeling and crank it up to 100!
As I open my own eyes I can feel sunlight pierce my eyes as I'm forced to cover them as I feel the heat from the sun bathe me as my sight slowly returns to me.
I then proceed to look around and blink, blink again; then again and then again…
"Just where the HELL am I?!" I do my best to contain my panic to my head as I vividly remember sleeping in my bed was the last thing I remember doing. Not sleeping in the park!
And the fact that my surroundings don't look familiar at all to me tells me I'm far from my house. From how the sun is high now I can only guess the time is around 7:30 in the morning.
Deciding to keep clam and cool, I take a deep breath and clear my head, "Okay, I know I don't have any history of sleepwalking or the fact that people kidnapping me and dropping me off on a park bench is about the work prank you could pull on someone."
After relaxing for a few minutes, I decided to get up and look for clues as to where I was and find out any information at this point.
Eventually just my luck I came across a police officer, but I had to confess his uniform didn't look like a traditional one I was used to and what only added to me confusion was the patch on his uniform said Kawakami City.
Now I know of only one place that had a "Kawakami City" was a fictional city from an eroge visual novel I played on my computer but…
No… there's no way… I can't be in THE Kawakami city… right?
As I approach the officer I ask him, "Um, excuse me officer, where am I exactly?"
The officer turns to me as he smiles and chuckles as well, "Your in Kawakami City of course, more specifically Kawakami Mall. Hmm? Oh young man, I'll also need to see your weapon license for the sword on your hip as well?"
Huh? I look down for the first time and that's when I notice I'm wearing the Kawakami Academy uniform and more importantly, I finally feel the heavy weight on my hip as I notice I'm carrying… a katana?!
"Are you okay? You do have your license right?" The officer asks again.
Caught by surprise I rummage through all of my pockets until I feel a piece of paper in my blazer pocket. I unfold it and to my shock I can read what's on the page. It was indeed a Firearm and Sword license made for those with special exceptions to carry real weapons in public and on their person.
"Oh um… here it is." I nervously had the officer the paper.
He looks over it quickly and with a smile hands it back. "Okay, everything seems in order. I suppose you must be a new transfer. If you want to reach the Academy you just have to head west from here and you'll pass over the bridge that will lead you straight towards the school. You can't miss it."
"Oh uh, thank you sir." With that awkwardness out of the way I head in the direction the officer told me as I just now processed the trove of information I was just dumped with.
So either A.) I was indeed in THE city of Kawakami. Home to the famous Kawakami Academy of Majikoi fame. B.) I'm wearing a katana out in public and now C.) I'm a student at said Academy.
Great… Just great…
I mean don't get me wrong the idea of reincarnation and going to another world is fun and all but Majikoi of all places…? Come on…
Well in the real world it's not like I was some weakling.
Oh well I guess while I'm walking I should tell you about myself. Well let's start with my name I suppose.
My name is Nagamasa Azai. And yes, I'm not kidding that is in fact my real name. My parents were born in Japan, but moved to America in their adult years and with that my father started his own dojo in California.
We had our own style of kenjutsu, but only known to those passed down in our family. And no we're not related to the old Sengoku clan, we were just a different clan with the same name. Kind of like how some people have the same last name but aren't related to each other at all.
And so growing up it was almost a forgone conclusion that I would inherit the dojo and our family style as well. With that my father taught me all matters in martial arts, kenjutsu, kendo and even some ninjutsu but not much.
Growing up I had plenty of friends, and had a normal, everyday school life nothing special I would say really.
If I did have to compare myself to people here in Majikoi, I'd just be some other background NPC. I mean hell I've been reincarnated into Majikoi of all worlds!
Maybe I am just meant to be another named NPC; maybe I won't meet the Kazama Family or play some big role. Maybe this really is just a second chance at life…
Oh who the hell am I kidding!? I'm in a world where all the women have power and men are considered second-class (unless you're a Kuki servant or some support character who learned martial arts like Shakadou or Lu-sensei.)
"Haaaah… just my luck." I groan out as I continue my way towards the infamous Bridge of Weirdos. However as I come along I finally see other students and with some luck I don't see any weirdoes either so… that's good I suppose.
I search my pockets and lucky enough I did have a phone, but now it was one of those modern looking flip phones. Like late 2000s modern. I checked the time and saw it was 7:45. Huh, I'm making good time.
By about 7:50 I make it to the famous Kawakami Academy just as other students begin filing inside I watch as they mingle about with their friends, couples holding hands… Aaaah, typical high school life.
I remember that officer saying something about being a transfer student. So I guess I'll head towards the teacher's lounge and find some help there.
As I open the door I'm greeted by the first and last person I'd ever wanted to see. If it wasn't for his iconic purple vest and tie combo it was the horrid makeup he had all over his face. Maro Ayanokoji.
"Hoo? And just who are you?" Maro asks as he stares at me.
While I wish to the heavens I would never interact with this man before, it's not good to step on toes and end up on his bad side.
"Oh my apologies sir, I'm a transfer student from America and was told to come here and find out my class assignment." I inquire.
"Hmmm…" Maro hums to himself as he hides his face with his fan and looks at me up and down. Ugh, I feel violated. "I had heard of a new student, but it is rare for foreign transfers even though although we are slated to get one in about two days.
I see, so Chris hasn't showed up yet. So that means the date must be April 22nd since Chris would arrive on this Friday so it's currently Wednesday.
"Hmm, what was your name again?" Ayanokoji asks.
"Oh, my name is Azai Nagamasa." I reply giving my name in the traditional style of introduction.
"Hmm… Ah, here's your file. You are indeed a new transfer, and your classroom assignment is Class 2-F, my how unlucky of you. Although I suppose the only saving grace of that class is their teacher whom Maro approves of. She should be here soon to take you there."
With that Maro leaves the teacher's lounge and I sit in slight jitters waiting for my new homeroom teacher.
As I sit there however a feeling washes over me that even though I'm trying to calm myself the vividness of all this is starting to sink in.
I'm really in Kawakami Academy…
I'm really in Kawakami City… the world of Majikoi.
As I lean back trying to breath steadily I hear the door slide open as a strong female voice speaks, "Welcome to Kawakami Academy."
I look up to see a rather beautiful woman of average age looking at me and the most noticeable thing is the whip she holds in her hands. The weapon of the one and only Umeko Kojima.
"I know first days are hard, but if you're as nervous as you seem to be then your first year here may be your roughest." She said.
Realizing she's talking to me I finally stand and introduce myself, "Sorry ma'am, my name is Azai Nagamasa contrary to my name I was born in America, but my parents were born here in Japan. I'll be in your care for the year ahead." I bowed.
"Umu, it's good to see one so respectable. Well it seems your appearance has caused quite a stir in my class. We were due to have one transfer student later this week then we received a notification that you would be arriving. Now then, follow me."
"Yes ma'am." I followed behind her.
"My name is Kojima Umeko, and I will be your homeroom teacher. Whenever you address me it should be as 'Kojima-sensei', but if I'm the only teacher around 'Sensei' is just fine." She filled me in as we walked down the hallway. "When you introduce yourself give your peers some tidbits about you, such as your favorite hobbies and such. It'll help you connect with them."
"I understand, sensei." I reply.
"Umu, now wait here and I'll tell you when to come in." She slid the classroom door closed as she headed inside.
And with that I release another inhaled breath I didn't know I had as I kicked my feet waiting for my cue to walk inside.
"Quiet down everyone." I heard Kojima-sensei say through the door. "While I know we were supposed to have a transfer student later this weak it seems we received a new transfer earlier then expected. Regardless, I want you to treat this new student with respect."
"Sensei, is this new student a foreigner too?" I heard a male voice ask.
"Yes, he is actually." Kojima-sensei answered.
I could then hear a small cacophony of groans mostly ones from the male students. Guess I broke their dreams of a possible double-female transfer student.
"But still to get two foreign transfers, this is just weird."
"But the fact it's a guy… I hope he's hot!" That was obviously a female student if I hadn't heard one.
"Quiet down all of you!" A sudden whip crack could be heard as everyone could be heard quieting down.
"Very well then, come in now."
I exhale as I slide open the door and walk inside closing said door behind me. I can hear a slight gasp among the classroom as I walk in. I go near Kojima-sensei's desk right in the middle of the classroom.
"Wow, he's pretty tall."
"He's handsome too."
I could some students muttering. Well at least it's the nice ones first I suppose.
I saw that my name was already written up on the board. So I turn to look at the classroom. As I scanned the room my eyes locked on to a certain someone until I spotted him, Naoe Yamato. The real main character of this story.
Oh, it seems like he caught me looking at him. He smiles and nods my way as I return the gesture in kind. Although given his "Tactician" persona he could also be trying to size me up to see if I'm useful as an acquaintance for his expanding list. Thinking like that however given my rather I would think average skill I wouldn't be of much use.
"Hello everyone. My name's Azai Nagamasa, and no before anyone asks I'm not related to THAT Nagamasa I just wanted to say that. Even though I have a Japanese name, I was actually born in America. As for any interests I have… I would have to say I have too many to list. So I suppose I just like doing new things. I'm new here, so I'll be in your care." I finish with a bow.
"Um, excuse me." I hear a light voice ask as a pink-haired girl raises her hand. If I remember he name was Amakasu Mayo, the class representative for 2-F. "You say you're new but your Japanese is very fluent." Of course to me it sounded like everyone was speaking English.
Why was that always a trope in anime now? I just didn't understand it, especially for dubbed stuff I mean why even do that when literally everyone is speaking… in English? Okay, moving on…
"Well like before, my parents were born here and raised me in America so they taught me of course from a young age." I answered her question simply.
"Oh, I have a question? ~" I hear another female voice ask this time one who's much more taller and has light yellowish hair, I think it's Chika Ogasawara. "Do you have a girlfriend by chance?"
"Eh, well no not really since you know… I just got here." I answer kind of taken aback a bit by her question.
I can hear some of the students whispering, Kojima clears her throat, "Well then that's enough for questions. For now take your seat to the right of Naoe."
Sitting next to the "Tactician" himself huh? Well it seems I'm either lucky or fate has something in store for me, "It seems I'll be in your care Naoe-san."
"It'd be my pleasure." He replies.
As I take my seat I suddenly smell in the air the scent of… meat? At that point Kojima continues, "Very well then, this week we'll be holding our career survey – Hey Kumagai! Don't eat hamburger steak in the middle of class!"
*WHIP!*
The large food connoisseur shakes from being whipped as he apologizes, "E-excuse me, I was just so hungry."
"Bear with it for now." Kojima instructs him.
"Ooooh, now I'm still hungry even after eating." Kuma-chan moped. I feel bad for him really.
Sensei continued from where she left off, "Everyone is to turn in their desired career report after the end of the vacation period. After that, we will have individual career guidance based off your reports. Feel free to write down any dreams you may have. Also, we've received another report of broken windows again, while it's rare if anyone has any information please tell us right away." Kojima finished with that.
"Very well, that is all." With that Umeko left the classroom.
The initial reaction was predictable, everyone suddenly crowded around my seat wanting to ask their own questions.
