Part 1: Meet the Family
Purpledolpin05 is back again with another AU/story. So this story is technically a side story for one of my new AUs (Unmasked) which spans the entire Lab Rats to Elite Force timeline.
In most of my AUs/'Canon timeline', Tracy and Jones were kidnapped/turned Bionic by Krane. Unmasked flips the switch by giving them the childhood they never had and also growing up with Rodissius' kids (and the Lab Rats to an extent).
Other notes I wanna add on before we dive in: -
~ My writing style is "The More, The Merrier" and usually have a large cast of characters. This merged/revised AU also features other characters from my original version of Lab Rats (My OCs the Snowflower family, and the Hamzah siblings from 'Waktu Rehat'). It's messy and not really for everyone but it's my style.
~ Frank and Doris work in Davenport Industries (yes, it's a very small world) so they got the ok to bring the kids along on the trip. They also have superpowers but live a Normo life.
~ Rodissius is a lot different in my version than Canon, because I have no idea what he was like before he turned evil. So I just wanted him and his family to have depth/some good things before it all goes crashing down. Frank exists as Rodi's first true friend, acts as some of his kids' godfather/uncle.
~ My version of Lab Rats, some of Krane's soldiers were adopted/kidnapped instead of genetically engineered because of the repercussions of them all being each other's siblings. In Unmasked timeline, Spin and Bob are adopted by the Chimokuri family. One of my OCs, Jenny lives with her aunt Tsuki (and her baby cousins Jackie, Chloe and January) but basically is seen as Spin's surrogate sister (and Bob's eventual love interest)
~ AJ is Rodissius' youngest son in my AUs. He takes after his paternal grandpa more in terms of looks. So this is gonna be a mess when the EF timeline comes into play.
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters from Lab Rats, Mighty Med, Lab Rats: Eilte Force, or Johan and Julie from Waktu Rehat. I only own my Original Characters. With that being said, enjoy this chaotic story.
Year: 2015 [Takes place a week after the Crossover Special]
Day 1, Morning
It was time for the Annual Andrews-Chimokuri family road trip. Jones was convinced this family tradition was all made to unite all the misfits for extra chaos.
This has been a tradition since before they were born, since both patriarchs of the families used to go on annual camping trips that extended to their families when they settled down.
For the past few years, Jones has teamed up with a few of the most mischievous Andrews siblings (usually the Triplets) for an elaborate Pranks War.
This year was more…crowded, especially with Frank and Doris' newly adopted sons: Spin and Bob (plus their best friend Jenny whom they insisted on bringing along).
This feels like less of an RV and more like a gigantic sleeper bus. Which made sense because there are 21 people. Rodissius had really pulled all the stops to make the joint road trip as comfortable as possible. Rainey is just very excited to have another girl her age onboard.
"Spin, Bob, Jenny, I'd like you all to officially meet my best friend Rodissius Andrews. We have been best friends since high school and therefore our kids became our friends as well." Frank introduced the younger children to the Andrews clan.
Spin silently pondered how it's possible his adoptive dad is apparently best friends with a famous superhero. But then again, his older siblings coincidentally happened to be good friends with the Davenport-Dooley siblings. I guess having extreme charisma and luck with popular people must be a Chimokuri thing.
"That's…putting it lightly." Rory nodded with a thin smile.
"It's too early for talking, dad." Tracy yawned tiredly. She was leaning against her mom's shoulder for some support.
"It's 5:30 am, dad. It IS too early to be joyful." One of the Andrews kids (Roger) nodded along.
"Eh, I usually wake up earlier than that to train." Roman shrugged his shoulders.
"Hi, I'm Jenny!" Jenny waved at the Andrews sisters. They had previously (briefly) met after the Triton App was initially deactivated, but this is the first time they spent time together.
"We've met before. Didn't you babysit us last week at Mighty Med?" Spin recognized Roman and Riker.
"Yup, good times." Riker nodded politely at the tween.
After introducing the kids to the Andrews family, it didn't take long for the Bionic tweens to get along with the younger Andrews siblings.
Bob was instantly smitten with Regina and Reese's beauty that he started levitating, much to everyone's confusion and amusement.
"C'mon kids, we can't waste daylight. Get in the RV," Frank gestured to the group of children (yes even if Roman and Riker are technically 20, they're still little kids in Frank's eyes).
Inside the RV
"IT'S BIGGER ON THE INSIDE?!" Bob exclaimed happily.
"The beauty of superhuman tech I guess, the inside of the RV is a lot more spacious than it looks on the outside." AJ explained.
"Hey, do you think those tiny packed clown cars are secretly superhuman cars too?" Rainey asked out loud, causing them to contemplate clown cars with new fascination.
" THIS is how you go on road trips each year?" Spin gasped at the size of the bus.
"Nope, this is bigger than last year's bus." Ranger shook his head. "Dad must have made some major adjustments."
The plan was to travel all the way to some National Park that's a few hours away. But the driving will be routined between their dads and the older twins.
"It's not dad's driving I'm scared of," Rainey muttered, eying one of her brothers.
"Great! I can now write my final will and testament!" her twin Ranger declared jokingly.
" One time! I only crashed into the East Wing ONE time!" Riker threw his hands into the air.
"That's honestly saying something because Grandpa Ambrose told me the last time something like this happened: our dads crashed a Tipton Hotel trolley cart into the West Wing." Roger cheekily grinned.
"Legend has it, the stain is still there." Jones snickered.
He and his sister spent last summer helping Ambrose out for Mighty Med's Comic Department as their part-time job. Because their dad and Uncle Rodi got into so much trouble as teens there, neither of them were allowed to step foot near the West Wing.
"Oh, it is. Ambrose sends us pictures of the stain weekly to remind us." Frank nodded, showing everyone a text message from the older Super himself.
"How crazy were your lives when you were a kid, dad?" Spin raised his eyebrows at his adoptive father.
"Very, most of the messes we get into are his ideas." Rodissius motioned to his best friend, who playfully scoffed. "Remember what happened the time you dragged me to that Rodeo Bull at the carnival?"
"Hey! You lasted longer than Adonis, you're welcome." Frank snorted in amusement.
"Who's Adonis?" Bob asked.
"Our classmate from high school. He wanted to be a superhero, but ended up the Leonardo DiCaprio of the Superhuman world." Frank waved a hand dismissively.
"He also bullied your dad in high school." Rodissius frowned.
"Sis, Spin, Bob, we got someone new in our Vengeance List." Jones declared, feeling a sense of anger towards their dad's high school bully.
"Cool, tell me your plans when I'm awake." His older sister gave a thumbs up.
"Besides, you want to talk about dumb stuff we did as kids? You were the guy who buried me under a pile of old mail!" Frank pointed out.
"It was dusty!" Rodissius exclaimed. The two older men laughed at the memory.
"I'll take the first shift," Frank offered, already buckling the seatbelt before his best friend/brother-from-another-mother could protest. "Great, thanks Rodi! Byeee~"
"Honey, sit next to me!" Frank quickly motioned for his wife to sit beside him, leaving his best friend in the backseat with the kids.
"Hey! You stole the keys!" Rodissius has somehow reverted back to a child around his old friend.
"Wake me up when we reach the gas station." Some of the non-morning birds have decided to go to the loft and nap until further notice.
"Get some rest, kids." Rodissius sighed with a smile.
"Dad, can I use your lap as a pillow?" His youngest son yawned a little.
But with 20 people in the same (but very large) vehicle, it also meant almost everyone was paired up one way or another. Bob sat next to Spin. Jenny and Rainey were hitting it off. Reese and Regina naturally decided to nap on the loft. Riker took the other loft for a nap. Remus and Romulus are rarely seen without each other. Jones is sitting and chatting with Rory. Roger and Rover are already passed out napping on their seats. Ranger's sitting beside Ricky.
This seemed to leave Roman and Tracy on their own.
Tracy had chosen a window seat, and Roman sat next to her.
"Sorry if I may snore." Tracy apologized with a sheepish smile.
"No worries. I usually hear louder snores from my siblings." Roman shrugged.
"You also drool in your sleep." Jones peaked his head from the seat in front of her to tease her.
"Jones, it's too early for me to kick your butt. And way too early for me to get grounded," She huffed, before leaning back into the seat to rest.
"I'm listening to some songs, wanna join?" Roman nudged his friend's shoulder, offering one side of the earphones.
"Sure, why not?" Tracy accepted and tucked the earphone into her left ear.
"High School Musical soundtrack?" She teased him a few seconds after listening to his playlist.
"Hey, you used to drag me to sing along to 'You Are the Music in Me'." Roman retorted with a smirk.
"At least the songs are still catchy." She agreed.
Halfway while listening to music, Roman felt a head on his shoulder.
'Psh, typical Tracy to nap on every vehicle she gets on.' He smiled fondly at his friend, but didn't exactly mind it. But I suppose all the long driving is enough to make him sleepy…he felt his eyelids slowly drooping down and drifting into sleep.
Rodissius looked over from his seat to check on his kids and Frankie's kids. It seems like they're getting along so far (hope it stays that way)
But his eyes widened when he saw his firstborn napping next to Tracy. They were sharing the same earphones with their heads leaning against one another.
'Yes, good job, son.' He can't help but feel proud of his son getting closer to his friend's daughter.
Yes it's weird to be getting too invested in your child's relationship, but he's been fixed on hoping to become grandpas together with Frank the day they first became friends.
Plus Roman's always been the serious type (it's been this way since Roman decided to go Emo at age 16 so people would 'take him more seriously') and shows zero interest in romance. Somehow his eldest son seems to always show more comfortability when Tracy is around.
And there was that one vision Haruo had of Roman and Tracy's wedding…
He doesn't care which kid it is, as long as someone marries Frank's children into the family! That's kinda the silver lining of having 13 kids. If one gets rejected, there's always someone stepping in as Plan B.
And that's all for Part 1 of the 10-part story. Yes, the Road Trip arc will be spliced into 10 parts. I've actually finished the whole story so I'm taking my time to post it online.
The Road Trip arc is a big event for Unmasked timeline that deserves its own story and is largely inspired by one of the DLC moments from my current favorite Visual Novels of all time "Our Life: Beginnings Always".
Chapter Talk: - (I over-share because I over-care)
(1.) This story contains my take on Rodissius and his family. Obviously, Canon Events are gonna catch on eventually, so this is the "It Gets Better Before It Gets Worse" trope. In my stories, Rodissius and Frank are best friends/Platonic Soulmates and Rodi REALLY wants the kids to marry in the future. Tracy and Roman suffer the shortest end of the stick, because they're the firstborns and also because Destiny Says So.
(2.) Superhuman technology is so advanced, I can see an entire family of 20 squeezing into the size of an average tour bus. Don't ask how the logistics is possible but it is and we're going with it!
(3.) Roman/Tracy are the Endgame ship, but Unmasked timeline features a VERY slow-burn buildup to their eventual romance. Canonically, they date when she's 18 and he's 21. Roman constantly brings up the age difference whenever his dad tries to set them up. He knows better than to get too involved in the romance department. The Road Trip arc is said buildup (with little moments where everyone figures out) for their Mutual Realization of Feelings
~ Also, Tracy has a crush on Chase (her friend) around this time frame, so good luck surviving the Love Triangle when EF comes in, Trace! [ It's the Rocy vs Trase revival! ]
(4.) Haruo Leighton is a family friend for the Andrews and Chimokuri families. The 3 dads all met in college as dorm buddies and stayed friends. Haruo has the gift of Foresight and likes to barge in unannounced to declare each Andrews pregnancy, much to Rina's annoyance when it happens (case point: the Triplets). He also foresaw Rocy's eventual wedding that Rodi holds onto as a Hope Spot.
(5.) I've said this before, but my Rodi is WAY different from his canon counterpart. In the show, he's a Man with A Plan. Same logic applies here, but instead he's just extremely emotionally invested in planning how to set up his kids with Frank's children. The beauty of having 13 kids is if one gets rejected, there's a Backup Plan available.
(6.) Unmasked! Roman canonically went Emo at 16 when he (and Riker) started Superhero Work/Go on Missions. He wanted people to take him more seriously, and somehow thought black emo clothing is the best thing.
And that's all for part 1. Hope you've enjoyed it so far because we got a lot more ground to cover! Thanks for reading and have a fantastic day.
