July 7th, X777

She could hear the people all around her uttering soft, awe-filled gasps as they watched the black sky above their heads. Her own voice was admittedly among them as they witnessed the odd, beautiful way in which stars shot across the sky. It had started with two, but had been followed by several others, creating a beautiful meteor shower. Her fingers twitched, longing to reach up and catch one or two.

And completely out of the ordinary. She'd walked the same path to the wide-spread park for years, every night without fail, and had never seen this happen before. Nor had there been anything in the news about expecting it. They were normally all over this kind of thing, declaring such things as, "Go and see this once in a lifetime opportunity!" People would flock all over, falling victim to the hope that they could see something others would only dream of.

She cocked her head, watching as one particular meteor suddenly shot past, surprisingly close. A chill went up her spine. A little too close, she thought, whipping her head around to follow its trek across the sky-

The meteor hit the earth and sent shockwaves through it. She stumbled, barely catching her balance. Her chest rose and fell in heavy gasps as the awe turned to concern among the others who'd seen it. Only when another struck, closer than the last and slamming into the town they called home, did concern turn to sheer panic and terror. Debris flew as if a volcano had gone off in the middle of the city. People screamed as it rained down among them. She watched in horror as a chunk of building crushed people beneath it, likely killing them instantly.

Somewhere in town, she thought she heard a monstrous howl as something screamed in fury.

Shaking her head and deciding it wasn't the time to worry about the actions of others, she turned and fled with everyone else, flinching when another meteor roared by. People spilled out of buildings as she ran, and she couldn't help but feel as if the movies had been right.

When the world ended, it most certainly did so with a bang.

AND WELCOME TO STARFALL! I debated waiting until I had more written to post it, but figured you'd all waited long enough. ;) I hope you enjoy this journey, and I can't wait to get to the angsty bits. I don't know if this will stay regularly updated, but here's to hoping.
