Beginning of the End

Voltron Legendary Defender

AN: This is going to be Klance but I don't want it to be the main thing, although knowing me it probably will. Just a warning, because I know there are some of y'all out there who don't like or ship Klance. Lance is my favorite character, and I wanted to write a story where he is an Alien, but not Altean or Galra, and has been fighting the Galra for years before joining Voltron. And I've been writing an original story so I decided to get some inspiration from my own work. I won't tell what he is until later on the story, when the plot starts to thicken. So this Lance is going to be more experienced and more war scarred than our lovable earth Lance.

Disclaimer: I don't own Voltron, because if I did it wouldn't have been that shitty of a show.

"Teylan?...Ildem?...Anyone copy?" silence. No one was answering their comms, and he didn't know if it was because his pod had crashed or if the others were aways from him. Probably both.

Damn those Galrans.

Lance sighed. There wasn't much he could do. His pod had been slightly damaged whilst entering the atmosphere, it wasn't entirely damaged, but he would have to wait a couple of vargas before he even attempted to lift his pod off the ground.

He should've known something like this was going to happen. There's no way he could go to any galaxy or planet without there being a galra fleet. Zarkon's empire was huge and with every passing quintant he gained more and more power. Families were torn apart. Planets destroyed. Whole galaxies conquered. His thirst for power was unquenchable and Lance feared the day Zarkon found his people.

After decaphoebs of jumping from planet to planet they had finally settled on one and hid from everyone. The galaxy his planet resided in was void of life. Even Zarkon had no interest in that particular galaxy because he knew there was nothing or no one there.

Lance just hoped that his fellow brothers-in-arms were okay. He had trained with them for many deca-phoebs, he knew all of them by name. Knew their families and friends. But he had to admit, they were more experienced than him, if only by a few deca-phoebs. Hopefully they were faring better than he was.

Now. How was he going to get off this planet? He needed to deliver the supplies to their allies. He knew that if he missed the rendezvous point, they wouldn't stick around to wait for him. One must always be cautious during these dark times, afterall. And these supplies were of great importance. He needed to get to the rendezvous point immediately.

Coming out of the pod, he checked his surroundings in hope that there was life here and hopefully they were friendly enough to help him. Although he doubted.

Many wouldn't risk helping others, in fear of being caught. He understood, of course he did. He just hated seeing people hopeless and resigned to their fate. Being under the rule of the Galra Empire for 10,000 years would do that to anybody.

He looked out to the distance only to see himself surrounded by water. Sparkling purple and reflecting the light of one of its moons. The ocean twinkled and sparkled, as the stars slowly made themselves seen, reflecting off the water and giving the ocean an odd purple eerie kind of look. But to Lance he didn't care if the color reminded him of the Galra empire, he was totally enamored. The pink sky turning a shade darker as night approached didn't make the scenery any less beautiful.

He knew which planet he had crash landed on now. It was Altesia.

He had heard about the planet's beauty before, but with Zarkon in rule and the Galra empire destroying anything and everything that made a panet beautiful, he thought he would never see her beauty. But oh 'verse was he wrong.

However he didn't have the chance to drink in the planet's lovely features as just then a blast barely missed him. Turning around he swore loudly. Galra fighter pilots were here, closing in on his location.

They had probably sensed him entering the planet's atmosphere.

It had only been a few doboshes, his pod wouldn't last long if he tried to fly her. He swore loudly, frak it. He didn't care, he needed to fly. Needed to get out of here. As he expected, his pod was able to fly, just barely.

He flew his pod away from the beautiful ocean and into the maze of rocky cliff terrain. The Galra fighter jets followed after him. This was probably suicide, but it would prove useful.

He hoped.

Gritting his teeth he avoided the shots aimed at him as best he could but that wasn't much as his pod had taken serious damage.

The galra fighter pilots kept on shooting. He flew his pod as best he could, but with it having limited function he could barely use the pod's defenses, all he could do was evade, and even then that was proving a difficult task. They were on his tail now and with his pod damaged there was so much he could take. His pod shook violently as it took several hits and his alarms blared. An engine had been blasted off, another alarm, they had blasted his wing.

He swore loudly, his pod was going down. He no longer had control.

He had to get out. There was no way he was going to make it if he didn't get out. 'The supplies' he thought. As much as he hated it, he had to leave the supplies behind. Better for it to get burned than be in the hands of Galra.

Gritting his teeth he jumped out of the pod just as it hit the rocky cliff wall and exploded.

He bit the inside of his cheek to prevent the slew of curses. He brought his knees to his chest, ducking and rolling, before standing up and quickly hiding from the ships. He could see a cave right beside him.

The Galran ships descended carefully, looking at the wreckage of the pod to confirm their kill. Lance steeled himself, darting his eyes from the ships to the cave before quickly running to the entrance. He liked to be on the side of caution – well when he knew things weren't looking up–, deciding it would be better to venture into the cave as deep as he could in order to avoid any further encounters with the Galra.

There was no way he was going to let himself be captured by them, not after his people had suffered, and were now just starting to heal. He was not about to be the reason for his planet's undoing.

He didn't know how long he stayed in the deep dark of the cave, it felt like several quintants, but he was sure it had probably been a couple of vargas.

Lance sighed in relief, but he refused to go back the way he came from. Lest the galra find him and this time capture him. He would have to find a different way to get off this planet. But with his only mode of transportation destroyed, and his communicator not working he was stuck.

"Get it together Lance" he whispered "You can do it. You've faced worse before"

It was then he felt it. A hum of energy. Cool and warm.

Lance, against his better judgement, followed the energy, he felt it becoming stronger the deeper he went. He made it to a point where there were carvings of a lion, and an ancient language that he did not recognize, carved against the cave walls. Awed, he traced the lion with his finger, but as soon as he touched the lion carving it lit up in a vibrant blue along with the rest of the carvings.

Beneath him the ground opened up. With a yelp he fell through the hole and splashed straight into a puddle of purple water. He sat up quickly, ignoring the pain that flared from his behind, and gawked at the sight before him.

There in front of him standing tall and proud was a blue lion shielded by its particle barrier. Lance was awed. Never in his life had he seen such beauty. Walking towards the particle barrier, he swore the eyes were looking at him, following his every move. But that couldn't be. Could it?

"Aren't you a beaut" he said, coming up to touch the particle barrier. He knew he wouldn't be able to get past it, having to learn the hard way back home, so it was shocking enough when the barrier came down.

Five lions flying in formation each joining the other to form a huge gigantic robot ship.

"...Voltron" he whispered, awed, looking back up at the blue lion he now knew was part of something bigger, something important. And hopefully the thing they needed to defeat Zarkon once and for all.

Sitting in the cockpit of the blue lion, he marveled at her beauty. She wasn't exactly his pod, but she was better. And Lance had been flying for years to learn to adapt to sudden changes.

"Ready to go look for the others, girl?" he asked the lion in a joking manner not expecting a reply back, so when she purred right into his mind giving the affirmative, he couldn't help but laugh.

He had just gotten himself into something dangerous again. Hadn't he?

Way to go Lance.

With a mighty roar, they leapt off the cave floor and into the dark fuschia night sky. And just as Lance expected the Galra fleet had spotted them and were now chasing them.

"Oh no you don't. Not this time" flipping back so suddenly the two ships at the forefront had barely enough time to stop before they crashed into a cliff wall. The other ships maneuvered their way out, shooting lasers at them the whole time in an attempt to bring down the Blue Lion. Lance and Blue avoided the hits, flying in zig zag motions. There was no way he was about to lose to a bunch of Galra fighters when he had one part of the only saving grace of the universe in his hands. Suddenly a couple of fighter ships were right in front of them having cut them off while they hadn't noticed, shooting their insufferable purple lasers at them. Blue took some hits, but not enough to take damage.

"Fraking Galrans!" Lance swore "Let's see what you got Blue" he maneuvered the levers next to his seat bringing one back and the other to the side and front at the same time. Blue's tail lifted and aimed at the ships in front of them, shooting a blue laser from its end. The two ships exploded and Lance maneuvered them out of the way.

Okay she had a tail gun. Which was so cool!

"Woah" he marveled at the lion. If she was this powerful just by herself, he couldn't help but imagine what Voltron was capable of once all five lions were united. Grinning he amplified their speed, and with a whoop of laughter, they passed the galra ships. The ships followed after them, shooting endlessly in hopes of striking. Lance laughed as he easily evaded all the shots. He slowed down a bit allowing the ships to catch up to him all while still evading their shots. One ship placed itself in front of them while the other stayed in their rear.

Lance grinned.

When he saw both ships firing for a shot he waited until the last second before the shots took impact to fly upwards at an ungodly speed. An explosion went off as both ships from each side impacted at the shot meant for him.

However there were still more on his tail and Lance was getting anxious. Quickly he turned Blue around and blasted a few of the ships with her tail gun. While the ships went reeling from the explosion's aftershocks, Lance took that as his cue for him and Blue to leave. That wouldn't hold the ships for long, if anything he bought himself maybe a few ticks headstart before they decided to follow him again.

Suddenly, they broke the planet's atmosphere into vast endless space.

"Where to now, beautiful?" he asked worriedly, keeping an eye out for the ships.

A warm, comforting feeling ran through him. As if she was telling him that everything would be fine. He was going to be safe. Nothing would happen to him as long as she was with him.

He just had to trust her.

And Lance did.

He trusted Blue. Trusted her to the endless vastness of space.

A wormhole materialised right in front of them, and Lance held no hesitation as he moved them forward into the wormhole and away from Altesia.

There was no turning back now.

Oh 'verse he was going to be in so much trouble when he went back home. If he ever, after all Blue was taking him to her home.

AN: THIS IS JUST A RANT! THATS WHY I MOVED IT DOWN HERE. So i love voltron...if it had only been TWO SEASONS! but because it has eight seasons it just ruined it, the writers are shit. Obviously they didn't know what they were doing or where they were going with the story. Like the characters had no character development. The same battles over and over again just became repetitive. And you're telling me that after seven seasons the paladins of Voltron the 'Universe's mightiest heroes' are still getting their asses beat, and they need to always get their asses saved in order to save the universe and defeat the threat. You're joking right? Also don't get me wrong but Allura and Lance had NO chemistry whatsoever, sure they're great friends and we see that Allura learns to appreciate Lance more, but SERIOUSLY! Miss Girl over here was in love with LOTOR and because that didn't work out and she was heartbroken and Lance was there for her…..it's just, it wasn't giving what it was supposed to give. And during this whole time, we see Lance kind of sad(?) like he just got the girl he's been pining for since season one and instead of being happy throughout their whole relationship he just seems sad! Now am I saying this because I totally and wholeheartedly ship Klance? No. Although just to be clear, those two had more chemistry than anyone else, and the writers and producers were even baiting us with Klance content, which is so rude. And don't even get me started with the supposed lgbtq rep. Like what the hell was that. We get like a brief introduction of Adam and then never see him again, and then see Shiro getting married to some dude, who never appeared for more than 15 seconds prior to this may I add, at the end of season eight. It's just I hate it, but I love the first two seasons. So I'm just going to pretend the other seasons don't even exist. Now in no way am I a better writer than the VLD writers but at least I know what I want in my story and how to go from there even if sometimes I wing it, but at least it works.

ANYWAYS THANKS FOR READING! PLEASE REVIEW THIS STORY IF YOU LIKED IT, OR LEAVE CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM, I'M OPEN TO IT!
