It was the 80s, where for the most part was an experience that only some were there for. Trampolines with no nets, BMX seats were up high, music was on cassettes, and much more. It was in those times truly wild. This could especially apply to one pacific blue heeler and his two brothers who in the middle of a windy and misty night were roaming on an island they were staying at with their parents on vacation. The three brothers were wearing fairly sized backpacks, each having a different color and weight with the one in front of his two brothers having more stuff in his compared to them. All three of them had flashlights as they held onto them in hopes of finding their destination.
"Hey Bandit? Are you finally going to tell us why we're out here? or are you gonna wait again and tell us once we get closer?" One of the brothers proceeded to break the silence and asked his brother. He's a Blue Heeler dog and the youngest in his family, wearing a red, white and blue headband, with light blue fur around his body, dark blue fur on his tail and on the left side of his face, brown eyebrows and dark brown fur which he had on his left face accompanying the dark blue, the dark brown appeared on his tail as well as it showed next to the dark blue, and finally his ears were also dark brown as they pointed upwards. The brother he asked the question to was in front of him, as he didn't respond, only moving his flashlight left and right to see where he was going.
*Sigh* the younger brother thought as he then looked at his other brother walking next to him. He's the oldest out the three and also a heeler dog but looked a bit different as he looked to be both a red and blue heeler with his main feature being his long hair as he was playing on a portable gaming system called Game Pup playing some random platformer game but was cut short after his younger brother gave a light nudge as he jumped into the conversation. "Yeah… Stripe has a point mate, I'm hoping you didn't bring us out here to show us something dumb, you're kind of making us miss the big wrestling match after all… actually now thinking of that maybe it would be better if we just go back home and you can show us tomorrow instead, what you think?" The older brother said to the blue heeler in front of them. Bandit in response to the questioning stopped in his tracks and turned around to face them.
Bandit appeared to be the middle brother in their family, his fur being mostly blue with a bit of light blue and tan with the main part being his face which had black fur around resembling a mask. On top of that he was spiking a mullet haircut that moved in the wind. "Look, I know we're missing the match, I wanted to see it too. but I can't show you guys tomorrow, we're all planning on leaving tomorrow and going home, this is my last chance to show you guys and trust me I promise it will be worth coming out here" Bandit said to his brothers as the two didn't respond back only look at him in silence and so Bandit turned back around again and continued walking with the others following as well.
"I don't know about this Radley? like Is it just me or does this area seem very sketchy?" Stripe asks his brother next to him who went back to playing his game system. "What do you mean? We were out here yesterday… well not at night, but still" Radley responds to his brother while looking around. "But not this far, I don't trust being out here one bit" Stripe said which Bandit noticed. "Mate, maybe you're just overthinking it, I mean in fairness sneaking out, probably wasn't the best idea, but if things start getting unsafe, we'll leave… so let's calm down, take a breather and-" Bandit said, not getting to finish the last part of his statement.
"Breather? Seriously, we're out in the forest late at night and if mom finds out we're out here, we're gonna get in a whole lot of trouble" Stripe responds back to what his brother had said. "And like I said, everything is fine… nothing has happened from us being out here and even then I highly doubt anything will, we'll head back after I'm done showing you guys this, so why don't we just keep going instead of…" Bandit then proceeded to pause the conversation as his older brother randomly started sniffing around the area, which in response made him and Stripe pretty confused.
"Mate? Uh, what's wrong? What is it?" Bandit asks his older brother. "I smell something… something burning like.." Radley responds only to then continue sniffing until a moment later when the scent he was smelling became more clear to him as his eyes widened in surprise. "Fire!" He told his brothers. "Fire? Where?" Bandit and Stripe both said in unison. "I can't tell, it's hard to make out… however it seems like the smell is coming from that way, near that rock," Radley told them before pointing to the left at a big rock. Bandit and Stripe then looked at each other with concern, being unsure if they should take his word on this but that concern then went away. "Bandit, we should go check this out, you can show us that thing afterwards… ok?" Stripe told him.
"Ok" Bandit said back as the two turned to their older brother and gave him a slight nod which he responded by walking over to the rock with the other two following behind him moving their flashlights back and forth for anything out of the ordinary. Seconds passed as they made their way over to the rock Radley pointed at, seeing next to the rock, some big green bushes but the main thing that caught the brother's eyes that didn't see from far away was above them, black smoke rising in the air which Bandit immediately realized, it was coming from behind those bushes.
"Radley, Stripe stay right here, I'll check it out" Bandit told his brothers before slowly moving over to the brushes. "Bandit, wait!" His younger brother quietly yelled having thoughts this was a bad idea but despite his concerns Bandit still did anyways, proceeding to step through the brushes to reveal he was now on the edge of a very small cliff and so decided to slowly walk over to very edge and looked down seeing exactly where the fire was coming from, which instantly made his eyes widen in an absolute shock. "What in the…." Bandit was completely lost for words now realizing what was there all the while his two brothers came out from the brushes to see him standing there emotionless.
"Mate? Did you find something? What is it… Oh… my… fudge sticks" Stripe said as He and Radley both saw exactly what Bandit saw. The three looked from above at a fairly large camp consisting of different sized tents and bunkers with wooden chairs and tables placed next to them, in the middle of all the tents laid a large fireplace that unleashed the same black smoke, the heeler brothers saw in the air. "What is all this?" Bandit said as he stared directly at the campfire. "Seems like the fire was coming from this campsite, the whole time" Radley responds to his question as Stripe roamed through his backpack and brought out a map to pinpoint where they were. "That's odd, last I checked this wasn't considered a camping spot on the map… actually now thinking of it, it says here it's tagged as a spot that's restricted, meaning this shouldn't be here" Stripe explained with surprise as he showed them the map.
"You do say… Well mate, that's all we need to know, let's go down there and check out" Bandit suggested. "Wait, you're serious? we're not going to do that?" Stripe asks with his eyes widened in surprise. "Why not? Maybe it's a dig site with a group of the best and famous archaeologists, who's searching for buried bones! or treasure! hiding under the very area there camping at, let's go find out" Bandit said, very excited. He then slowly went to the edge ready to slide down the cliff which he saw looking down to be muddy due to the mist creating small drops of rain in the sky. Bandit then without hesitation took one big step forward, ready to slide down the small cliff.
"Oh no you don't!" Then out of the blue he was quickly pulled back which made him turn around in confusion of who did that and realized It was his younger brother who pulled him back. "You're not going anywhere other than our campsite, so how about instead let's get out of this area before one of those campers In quotations sees us" Stripe spoke before Bandit interrupted his words by forcefully breaking out of his grasp. "Sorry maté… I'm not leaving" Bandit protested. "Bandit-" Stripe tried to respond, only for Bandit to continue speaking.
"Just imagine what we found out here, don't you think this could be something extraordinary, why would you want to miss the opportunity?" Bandit asked his brother. "Cause" Stripe replied back. "Cause what? Is this about the wrestling match?" Bandit asked. "Cause I don't want you to get hurt or possibly killed because of this!" Stripe yelled out, the response led to the three brothers to stand in silence, only staring at each other until the older brother broke the silence. "Woah Stripe let's calm down, that's a bit of a stretch don't you think?" Radley asked his younger sibling. "Nah Mate… he's right" Bandit jumped into the conversation while slowly and unnoticeably moving backwards to the edge once again. "No worries I'll make sure… I do this cautiously," Bandit said as in an instant he turned around.
"Bandit!" Stripe ran quickly trying to grab him but it was too late, Bandit slid down the cliff and reached the ground. His body was covered in mud from the side. "Mate! What do you think you're doing?" Stripe asked from above. "I'll be right back, I promise" Bandit told him all while looking around for anything of value when his eyes saw a long line of rope hung on a wall. "That's convenient" He comments to himself, quietly grabbing it from off the wall and ran back over to his two brothers who were watching him from above. "Here, hang on to this" He then threw it up to them which Stripe grabbed from off the ground. "When I get back you drop it and pull me up, ok?" Bandit asked the two. "Just make it quick" Stripe responds, still being hesitant about this idea, as Bandit then went off to take a look at the campfire leaving his two brothers to think among themselves as the looks on their faces raise concern. "Should we follow him?" Radley asked his younger brother. "Here take it, stay here and watch out from anything suspicious, I'll bring our Brother back" Stripe said as he then went to the edge and slid down the cliff.
Meanwhile Bandit sneaked around the area, hiding behind tents to avoid detection all the while he got closer and closer to the middle of the campground with the campfire until he finally reached the spot and hid behind a nearby tree. "Ha, made it," Bandit said to himself as he pulled out his flashlight, being able to see more clearly at the campfire from a distance. However as he turned to left to take a peek at the campfire, something noticeable came into his ear *Whoosh* "Huh? Who's there?" Bandit wondered about, as he turned around, moving his flashlight left and right to see that nothing was there. "Umm… that's strange… anywho let's see what these professionals are digging up" Bandit said before digging into his backpack and pulling out his binoculars. He then looked through them seeing the large campfire in full view as it lit up the pacific area but when looking more closely he strangely saw multiple shadowy figures sitting around the large campfire. "So there are archaeologists here, I knew it," Bandit says, completely surprised as he looked closer with the binoculars.
"Gee, why of all days did it have to be cold today?" Then suddenly out of the blue, one of the strange beings began to speak, presumably to someone who was there as well. "Come over here then, it's a lot better than where you're at" Another one of the beings then responded to that comment as the one who asked got up from their spot and moved over to the other side all while Bandit was staring from behind a tree. "Well good to know they can talk, but the question remains are they really- *Whoosh*" Bandit said before being startled, as he heard a faint dash coming into his ear again. "Huh?! Again?" The blue heeler immediately turned around and proceeded to wave his flashlight again to the left and right to nothing being visible in response his face was starting to appear more serious.
"What am I thinking, it's probably just nothing" Bandit told himself as he turned back around at the campfire. As he continued to look around right behind him a random brush began to start shaking but randomly stopped after being revealed it came out from the brush and walked slowly over to the blue heeler. Bandit's ears in response quickly perked up, hearing the footsteps behind him which frustrated him once again. "You gotta be serious… Stripe if you're trying to be funny with me it isn't going to…" Bandit said before turning to see what he thought was Stripe but was instead greeted by a small like creature that had a blackish color to its fur with the main feature being its bright purple eyes that gazed into the blue heeler's eyes.
"Wait, you're not Stripe?" Bandit questioned but in a matter of seconds the strange encounter became hostile trying to pounce on Bandit but the blue heeler managed to dodge it which it then responded with a fairly loud screech as Bandit immediately panicked and started running away all while it chased him. "The heck are you?" Bandit asked the creature but it didn't respond, only screeching as it got close enough to him to pounce once again, managing to pin Bandit onto the ground. "No hold on stop!" Bandit says as he tries and struggles to get the creature off, but to no avail. "Please quit it… let me go! I'm… not your enemy!" He pleaded once again. "Watch out!" Suddenly Bandit was greeted with a disembodied voice, only for his eyes to gaze at a shovel which swung and hit the strange creature as it disappeared into nothingness.
The blue heeler then took notice he was free from the creature's grasp and proceeded to get up and lightly took a few deep breaths before speaking. "Oh my goodness… thank you mate, I knew you wouldn't…" Bandit said before looking up thinking he was talking to Stripe only to be proven wrong when his became widen when he saw a group of humanoid hairless creatures, standing on two legs and wearing clothing as they were behind one who was holding a shovel which Bandit knew they were the one who saved him. "Did that thing just talk?" One of them said, all while the campfire behind the group illuminated light.
"Umm… by any chance are you all archaeologists?"
To be continued….
