Ch 1.
It was early evening on a warm summer Friday night and two large humanoid turtles sat on a couch watching a movie while nuzzling happily into each other's arms. Next to them, on an end table was a bowl of popcorn and two glasses of wine. The smaller of the two hummed happily as he placed a buttery salted popped kernel into the mouth of the other turtle.
"This is nice," He muttered as he took a few pieces for himself, "Popcorn, wine, an awesome movie and the love of my life to share it with." Baby blue eyes met deep brown eyes as the two looked at each other and pressed their lips together in a tender kiss.
"Yes," The other agreed as they pulled away, "It's a wonderful way to start the summer," He took a sip of wine, "Nothing like a nice quiet evening at home with the one you love."
BANG
The sudden loud slamming of the front door had the two turtles startling apart and jumping up from the couch. "At least it was a nice quiet evening," The brown eyed turtle muttered drily as he watched a slightly larger turtle angrily walk into the house.
"Leo?" At the mention of his name, the newcomer looked over at the other two, "I thought you were on a date." The smaller blue eyed turtle looked at the other with concern.
"I was on a date." Leo stated, his hazel eyes blazing angrily at them, "But business got in the way…..again!"
"Don't tell me, let me guess," The brown-eyed turtle huffed angrily, "You two broke up….again?" He mockingly asked with an air of annoyance.
"We did not break up," Leo responded hotly, "We had a disagreement, nothing more."
"They got into an argument," The smaller turtle said to the other.
"Then they broke up," The other stated. He shook his head, picked up the remote to their DVD player and paused the movie, "There goes our nice quiet evening." He picked up their glasses of wine and handed one to the other turtle.
"Just why are you here anyway?" Leo demanded as he walked closer to the brown eyed turtle, "You are not welcomed here."
"He is so," The smaller turtle stated angrily as he stood up and stepped in between the two turtles, "Donnie is my fiancé and my house is his house."
Leo frowned at the two of them, "Listen Mikey," He leered down at his younger brother, "You two are not getting married," He stated adamantly, "This is just a phase you are going through so you…."
"Who are you to decide that?!" Donnie demanded, "Just because you and Karai can't keep your love life straight is no reason to interfere in ours!"
"Michelangelo is my brother and I know what is best for him!" Leo responded, tapping the other turtle's plastron several times over while bringing his face close to where their beaks were almost touching, "And you are not it."
"Leo, that's enough," Mikey told him as Donnie stepped back from the older turtle and rubbed his chest, "Donnie makes me happy and we will be married."
"Mikey…."
"What is all the noise out here about?!" A new voice called out from the back of the house. The three turtles turned to see a large gray rat in a red kimono coming toward them, "I was enjoying a nice quiet evening of meditation along with my stories when loud noises and yelling interrupted everything!" He glared angry red eyes at them while waving a walking stick in their faces, "Now I will never find out what secret Erica is hiding." He looked from one turtle to the other while he stroked his long beard, "Leonardo?" He looked over at the blue clad turtle with a surprise look, "Aren't you supposed to be on a date?"
"He claims he and Karai had a disagreement," Mikey said.
"Oh, I see," the large rat nodded in understanding, "They broke up again."
"We did not break up!" Leo yelled, "We are just….um….taking some time away from each other, that's all."
"You two have been dating for over four years," Donnie stated, "How many 'taking time away from each other' does this make?" He tapped his finger against his chin in contemplation, "Twenty?"
"You shut up," Leo wagged his finger at him; "You are not family and have no say in this house."
"Stop talking to him like that Leo," Mikey demanded, "He is family and…."
"Father," Leo turned to the rat, "How can you condone what they are doing?" He began to follow the rat to the kitchen, "It's not natural."
"Donatello makes Michelangelo happy," The rat replied, "And that is something I do condone."
"Thank you Master Splinter." Donnie said with a smug grin.
"So if robbing banks made Mikey happy you would condone that too?" Leo asked him.
"You are comparing apples to oranges my son," Splinter stated as he prepared himself a cup of tea, "Robbing a bank is illegal, what they are doing is not," He placed a paw on Leo's shoulder, "You should be happy for your brother and celebrating the love they share, not arguing against it."
Leo attempted to protest but Mikey stepped in, "Look bro," He began, "I know you're angry about Karai….Again" He rolled his eyes, "But what I don't understand is why you continue to put up with it," Leo scowled at him as Mikey rubbed his chin thoughtfully, "It's like you're a glutton for punishment."
"You know Mikey," Donnie looked at him reflectively, "Maybe Leo should check out the place we ended up meeting at," He turned to Leo, "After all, Professor Honeycutt has a PHD in the science of love and matchmaking; who knows; maybe he could find someone that's compatible for you, too."
"Yeah, that's a great idea Donnie," Mikey said as he pulled out his wallet and dug through it, a moment later he handed Leo a business card, "Professor Honeycutt does wonders in matching mutants together, why don't you check it out and see if he can't find someone for you."
"I have someone for me," Leo said as he threw the card on the kitchen table, "Besides; I don't want to end up like you two."
"And just what would that be?" Donnie asked sarcastically as he watched Leo start to walk out of the kitchen and toward his room, "Happy?"
"You got to remember Leo," Mikey called after him, "What we are is not natural to begin with, and it's not a bad thing to fall in love with someone of the same sex," He shrugged his shoulders, "After all, humans do it too."
Leo looked back at his brother and shook his head, "I'm going to bed." He announced dejectedly, "Sorry I ruined everyone's night."
Mikey watched sadly as his big brother made his way down the hall and into his room, Donnie came up behind him and placed his hands on Mikey's shoulders, "Give him the night and see how he feels in the morning," He advised as the two made their way back to the couch, "Maybe he'll be a little more receptive to things by then."
"That sounds like a good idea Donatello," Splinter stated as he made his way back to his room, "It would be nice to see him happy again."
