Time had stood still.
From the moment she received Adam's phone call to now, sitting in an uncomfortable chair waiting for Adam to be out surgery.
It was all a blur, seeing him in the back of the ambo, seeing him covered in blood, begging him to leave the oxygen mask on. Hearing him beg her to protect Callum, to get to him before Richard did.
The moment he finally agreed to leave the oxygen mask on, the moment he mumbled something before passing out.
She shook her head lightly to try and clear the fuzziness that was in her mind, she was almost certain Adam had said 'I love you', it was muffled and his voice was soft but she was sure it was what he was saying. The words had barely slipped from his lips and he lost consciousness and she was terrified that those would be the last words he spoke.
She felt another wave of nausea hit her, and it took all the strength she had just to stand up, the room spun a bit before she finally found her footing and raced to the restroom.
"Kim…" Trudy called out as she knocked lightly on the stall door, "are you okay?"
Kim flushed the toilet before exiting the stall, she went straight to the sink and began to wash her hands, "No." was her response, she cupped her hands together to catch some lukewarm water and rinsed her mouth out. "Why haven't we heard anything?"
Trudy handed her paper towels, "No news is good news." She cringed a bit as she said it, it was such a ridiculous thing to say and she could tell Kim agreed with her."..i don't know, Kim. We just need to try and be patient."
Kim sighed, "This is a nightmare." They made their way back to the surgical waiting room, over the course of the last hour or so the room had emptied out, the only people who remained were waiting for news on Adam. It seemed Adam was the only patient still in surgery and it scared her.
It was a mixture of plain clothes officers and patrol officers and their presence had Kim on edge, it only added to her anxiety. Whenever an officer was hurt in the line of duty, the force showed up at the hospital to offer support, but more often than not it was an in and out kind of thing. They would hang around for a bit, speak to the family of the officer and then clear out.
Except in situations like Adam, his injuries were grave and his life hung in the balance and that was why the officers remained. It was supposed to be comforting and supportive but it was merely a reminder of how serious this was.
"Hey…" Kevin crouched done in front of her, she could see tears in his eyes and stained his cheeks, his eyes bloodshot, "I spoke with the sitter, she can stay the night."
"Okay." Kim replied, a fresh tissue clutched in her hand, "that's good."
"Can I get you some food? A change of clothes?" He asked her, he needed to do something as to not feel so helpless, he could see Adam's blood on her hoodie, "anything you need, I'll get it."
Kim smiled sadly at him, "an update on Adam."
Kevin leaned forward and kissed the top of her head, "I'll do my best." He gave her shoulder a gently squeeze before heading off to find someone to hound for an update.
Kim watched as Voight spoke with a few suits, she was certain they were from IA and already investigating the shooting. Adam hadn't come out and said it, but Kim had already started to put the pieces together and Sam had confirmed it.
Callum had shot Adam.
Sam had been the one to leave him alone to die.
She hoped that the deal Sam had made with the ASA was no longer valid and she would be charged with not only attempted murder but everything her father had done. She wanted the woman to rot in a jail cell for the rest of her life.
Voight shook the hands of the men he had been speaking with and watched them as they left the hospital.
He took an empty seat next to Kim, "How are you?"
"Okay. I guess." She pulled her gaze from the suits as they left and turned to Hank, "What did they want?"
"An update on Adam." He told a half lie, they did ask about Adam but they also wanted to know if Adam had said anything, if he had identified the shooter. Hank had his own suspicions but he would keep them to himself until he had spoken with Adam. "Have you eaten anything?"
Kim dropped her head in her hands, why the hell was everyone so concerned if she had eaten? "No. I'm not hungry either. I just need to know Adam will be okay that's it." She jumped up from her seat and went back to pacing.
Kim had no idea what time it was when a nurse finally approached her, "Officer Burgess, how are you doing?"
"Fine." She snapped back. "Do you have any news?"
The nurse folded her arms across her chest, "I do. The surgeon was able to remove the bullet from his liver, it caused quite a mess."
"How much longer?"
"Hard to tell. I will update you as soon as I hear something. Please try and be patient, Adam is in great hands." She rubbed Kim's arm, "let me know if you need anything."
Kim looked at the assembled group, Voight, Torres, Upton, sat in the row of chairs opposite her, Kevin and Trudy sat on either side of her.
"You can all go. You've been here for hours and it's been a long day." Kim announced, "there's nothing any of you can do, so go home and rest. I will call as soon as Adam is out of surgery."
Upton whispered something in Torres' ear and then the pair stood up and approached Kim, "Hey, Adam is strong, he's going to be okay." Upton said before hugging Kim, "call me as soon as you hear something."
"Hang in there Burg." Torres smiled softly at her, "Adam is going to be fine." He bowed his head and left.
"You can leave." Kim told Voight, Kevin and Trudy, "it's okay."
"Fat chance, Kim." Trudy told her, "I'm here until Adam is in the clear. I'd never hear the end of it if he found out I left you here."
Kim forced a smile, she appreciated her presence, "Thank you."
Kevin rested his head on her shoulder, "You're not getting rid of me. I can't leave when one of my best friends is in surgery and my other best friend is waiting it out."
Voight hung around but kept to himself.
Trudy couldn't handle the silence anymore she turned to Kim, "How long?"
"Almost an hour" Kim replied.
"Not what I was asking." Trudy replied, Kim had assumed she had meant since the last update but that wasn't it, "Nope. Not what I was asking about. How long have you and Ruzek been together? Like together..together. You know in the biblical sense."
Kim felt the heat rush to her cheeks, she was blushing like a school girl, "Oh my god.." she hung her head a bit.
Kevin's head snapped in their direction, he had been lost in his phone, "Say what now?"
Kim smiled a little, "How'd you know?" They hadn't said a word to anyone, not even Mack. They were taking it slowly, well that wasn't really accurate. They had done it all a bit backwards, but they were anything but traditional.
Trudy scoffed, "You haven't learned by now that I am all knowing. I hear things, see things, I'm observant. You and Ruzek both have been lighter, happier, and content. I see the subtle things. The way Adam pulls out your chair before you sit, the way you are constantly planting your ass on his desk. The way you manage to always touch each other, it's always just the slightest touch but a touch nonetheless. There's a been a twinkle in your eyes, one that I hadn't seen in a long time."
Kevin was dumbfounded "you didn't think to clue a brother in?" He asked Trudy.
Trudy rolled her eyes, "and that's why you haven't been recommended for the detective exam, Kevin. You need to hone your detective skills a bit."
"I'm sorry we didn't say anything, Kevin. It's just been crazy with Adam working the Beck case, Mack and all of her activities, we just wanted to keep it between us for now."
"Nah, I get it." Kevin replied, "I'm so happy for you both." He hugged her.
Voight approached them, the doctor in tow.
They stood up and met them halfway, the doctor spoke first, "Surgery went well. Adam is being moved to his room as we speak. Adam suffered a significant injury to his liver, we were able to repair it and while it was a bit of a challenge I expect him to make a full recovery. He required blood transfusions as he lose quite a bit of blood. Overall it went as expected, that's not to say he's not a risk for complications but I'm cautiously optimistic."
Kim felt the weight of the world leave her shoulders and was finally able to take a breath, "Can I see him?"
"Absolutely, just let the nurses get him settled. They'll come get you as soon as he's ready for visitors. Don't expect much out of him tonight, I imagine he'll sleep the rest of the night, he's on a morphine pump for pain, that coupled with the effects of the anesthesia he's going to be pretty groggy and out of it."
"I don't care." Kim laughed, "I just need to see him."
Voight shook the doctor's hand, "Thank you." The doctor smiled and left, "I'm going to update the waiting room and then call Upton. Take it easy Kim and call me if you need anything."
"I will head out with you, Hank." Trudy hugged Kim, "try and get some sleep tonight."
Kevin waited for Trudy and Hank to leave, before saying his goodbyes, "hey do you want me to take over for the sitter? I can crash at your house or take Mack to mine. I'm sure she'd love to see Jordan and I don't mind having her over, you know that."
Kim mulled it over for a bit, "No, that's okay. It's getting late and I don't want her to think something is wrong. She will get suspicious if you pick her up, I don't want to tell her anything until Adam is awake."
"Fair enough." Kevin hugged her, "I'm happy for you Kim, you and Adam deserve this. It's your second chance, don't let it go this time."
"Never, Kevin. Never." Kim hugged him, "I love him so much and I won't lose him again."
Kim cautiously entered the room, afraid of what she would see and how it would affect her. She needed to take few deep and steadying breaths before she crossed the threshold. She had never been on this side of things, she'd always been the one in bed and she now understood what Adam had gone through each time she'd been in the hospital.
This had been the hardest night of her life, not knowing if Adam was going to be okay was harder than any of the times she had been injured. She had never felt quite so helpless and she never wanted to feel this way again.
She used her sleeve to wipe away her tears, she pulled the chair to the side of his bed and sat down. She caressed his arm and adjusted the blankets round him. Kim gently touched his face with the back of her hand, tears cascading down her cheeks.
She took his hand in her's and kissed it, the blood that had covered his hands earlier had been scrubbed away but in her mind's eye she could see it.
"Oh, Adam.." she whispered, she placed his hand back on the bed and stood up, she leaned over and placed the softest kiss on his forehead, letting her lips linger a bit. She had always loved when he kissed her forehead, it was always so tender and full of love. Those kisses meant so much to her, she hoped he would feel the same way she had. She finally pulled back, "Adam, I love you baby." She adjusted the nasal cannula and then placed a light kiss on his cheek before sitting back down.
The adrenaline that had coursed through her body had dissipated and she was left feeling exhausted. She laid her head on the edge of the bed, one of her hands gripping Adam's forearm and she finally closed her eyes and allowed herself to sleep.
He groaned as he gained his bearings, he was alive. He hadn't died on that nasty floor, flashbacks assaulted him.
Callum shooting him.
Sam kicking his phone down the stairs, taking his gun.
Leaving him.
Voight's face hovering over him.
Kim's voice calling his name, her hands touching him, pleading with him.
His blood on her hands.
He clamped his eyes shut against the bright lights of the hospital, he felt dizzy and lightheaded as he tried to lift his head. He could feel the warmth of Kim's hand on his arm, the tickle of her hair as it splayed across his arm.
Kim felt the slightest movement and her eyes flew upon, "Adam?"
"Hey…" he muttered, his voice was a bit scratchy and his throat incredibly dry, "..sorry.."
Kim was on her feet, "Are you in pain? Do you need anything? What can I do?" She verbally vomited all over him.
He smiled, "Okay. I'm okay." He lifted his hand to touch her face.
Kim leaned into his touch, "I love you, Adam. I love you so very much. I never stopped loving you."
Adam smiled, "I love you too."
Kim leaned down for a kiss, it wasn't intense or as passionate as most of their kisses but rather soft and tender.
"Are you in pain?" She asked him.
"Not really. I feel out if it."
Kim handed him the morphine drip button, "if you're in pain press this." She showed him the button, "I was so scared when you called me."
"I'm sorry." His eyes were heavy, and it was a struggle to stay awake.
"Don't apologize, this isn't your fault. None of it." She explained, she really didn't want to get into it, not right now. "baby you need to sleep."
"I don't want…" he stammered a bit, "…I'm scared….." he was fighting for every word, the urge to sleep was overwhelming, "…you won't be here…"
Kim leaned in close, "I'll be here, Adam. I'm not leaving your side. You're stuck with me." She kissed him.
"Promise?" Adam asked.
"Promise." She held her pinky up and he looked his through her's, "I'm not going anywhere."
It had been a restful night for both Adam and Kim, Adam was oblivious to the nurses when they came in to check on him, sleeping soundly as they did their thing. The nursing staff had a roll away bed brought in for Kim and she too slept through it all.
She woke first and checked the dozen text messages she had, she replied to a select few and returned a few calls.
She had checked in with the sitter and made arrangements for Mack to be brought up to visit, she spoke with Kevin and filled him in on everything and asked him to let the rest of the team know what was going on.
She then put her phone on silence and focused her attention on Adam.
He slept a good bit longer than her but when he did wake up he had a much clearer head and wanted to discuss the aftermath of his shooting.
"She stepped over me. Just left me there to die." He said, "I had to crawl across the floor and throw myself down the stairs." He could see the tears in Kim's eyes and he hated it, "Someone called…I think it was Voight, I couldn't answer it. My fingers were so bloody, I was afraid that was it. I couldn't let that be it. I wiped my fingers off as best I could and called you…"
"I'm so glad you did. I knew instantly you were in trouble, I could tell by your breathing. I took off running. I had to get to you."
Adam held her hand tightly, "did you get to Callum? Is he safe?"
"We did." Kim told him. "I found them in a parking lot, Callum and Sam. She told me that it was Callum. I thought it was him but wasn't sure."
"He was scared." Adam replied, "just a scared little boy."
"Richard showed up, he held a gun to Callum's head. He used him as a shield. He wanted to take the kid and run, as he tried to get in the truck, Kevin dropped him. Richard is dead."
"The big event, did it happen?"
"No. Nothing happened, it's over. You did your job, Adam."
"What about Callum? Sam?" Adam asked.
"I don't know." She replied it was the truth, however she hoped Sam rotted in jail for the rest of her life and while Callum was just a kid she feared he was a lost cause. The look on his face when Kevin shot his grandfather was chilling. "I'm guessing they'll pull Sam's deal and she will faces a litany of charges."
"And Callum?" Adam asked, he wasn't going to identify Callum as the person who shot him, he had made that decision the second the kid pulled the trigger.
"I don't know." Kim replied, "I really don't want to talk about them, Adam. Mack should be here any minute, I want to focus on our family. Me, you, and Mack. That's all that matters.
Kim had asked the sitter to tell Mack that Adam was injured at work and in the hospital, to keep the details vague but to assure her that Adam was okay.
Mack bounced on her toes in the elevator. A stack of brightly colored drawings she had made for Adam, unable to pick just one she decided to bring them all.
Her stomach was filled with nerves as they exited the elevator and approached Adam's room, Kim met them outside and thanked the sitter before sending her on her way.
She pulled Mack off to the side, "Oh my sweet girl." She hugged her, "So, your dad.." it still felt strange to say 'dad' but it was strange in the best way, "was shot…" she saw the fear in Mack's eyes, "…he's had surgery and he's going to be fine. He's in some pain but he has pain medication. It does make him really sleepy, so if he falls asleep don't be scared. His stomach is very sore so he mindful of that."
"Can I hug him?" Mack asked, "I need to hug him, that always makes him feel better."
"You can absolutely hug him, he'd love that. Just be gentle." Kim led her closer to the door, "daddy may cry but don't be scared by it, he's just so happy to see you."
"Okay."
Adam had raised the back of the hospital bed so he was sitting up and he had found a burst of energy the second Mack stepped foot in the room.
"Oh daddy." Mack burst into tears, which set Kim off and then Adam.
"Come here bumblebee. Let me hug you." Adam fought against the pain in his gut as he hugged his little girl. His beautiful little girl, it killed him that they lived in a world where people hated her because of the color of her skin. His precious little girl with a heart of gold didn't deserve to ever feel such hate and he would do whatever he had to do to protect her from it.
"Are you okay?" Makayla asked tenderly, "does it hurt?"
Adam shrugged, "a little bit but not too bad. Your hugs help."
"I have lots of hugs." She smiled, "me and mommy will take care of you! I'm really good at taking care of people, right mom?" She looked up at Kim for reassurance, "I took good care of you when you got hurt at work, didn't I?"
"You sure did baby." Kim smiled, it pained her that daughter had seen so much in her short life, she hoped better times lay ahead for them.
"When can you come home?"
"Daddy has to stay for a few more days." She saw the immediate disappointment all over Mack's face, "but that's okay, it gives us some time to get the house ready. We will need to make daddy a bed on the couch and make sure we have all his favorite snacks."
"We will have to go shopping." Mack informed her.
"Yes. Maybe when your Uncle Kevin is here we can go." Kim suggested.
Makayla mulled it over for a few minutes, "I think that will be okay, but we won't be too long right? I don't wanna leave daddy for a long time."
It warmed Adam's heart to hear her call him 'daddy', "I'll be okay baby, you should go shopping and then maybe take your mom home so she can rest." Kim had yet to leave his side and he could see the exhaustion in her eyes. Hell she was still wearing the same clothes, her green hoodie spotted with his blood.
"I'm fine Adam." Kim told him, the last thing she wanted to do was be away from him for any length of time, she held his hand tightly.
Makayla looked between them both, she could sense something was different between them, she had sensed it for a while now. She was young but she was observant and perceptive, she had seen them touching each other, a light touch on the back, the face. Nothing illicit but definitely more than she had been used too. She had also noticed that her daddy's bed was still made most days and he rarely made his bed.
She suddenly smiled, the pieces all starting to come together. She had seen enough movies about princesses falling in love with a handsome prince to figure it out, "hey are you and dad in love are you gonna get married?"
Despite the discomfort he was feeling Adam's face lit up with a huge smile, he was leaving this one to Kim. He wanted to scream, yes! Let's get married, but he didn't have the best track record when it came to asking Kim to marry him.
Kim felt her cheeks flush, she wasn't prepared for Mack's question, she'd by lying if she said she hadn't thought about, in fact it was all she could think about last night. As she sat in that waiting room all she could think about was they time they had spent apart. She begged and pleaded with the universe that if Adam survived she would never again take him for granted. She wouldn't squander their second chance, she wanted to marry him more than anything.
"Uh, that's for your dad and I to sort out but yes, I love your dad. I love him with all of my heart and soul. I always have."
Adam raised the back of his bed up a bit more, wincing as he did so.
"Are you okay dad? Does it hurt?" Mack looked worried, "do you need the doctor?" It looked as if she might burst into tears.
Adam was quick to reassure her, "I'm okay bumblebee, just a little sore. Your mom and I have loved each other for a long time, it's just taken us a bit to get it right. We have figured it out and there is nothing I want more than to marry your mom. Well, there is something else that I want just as much…"
Kim glanced at him, "yeah? What's that?"
"To be this one's dad." He tapped Makayla's nose with his index finger.
"You are my dad, silly!"
Kim swiped away a tear that had broke free from her eye, "Of course he is. I think your dad wants to make it official."
"Like you did? We had to go see the judge and he signed it?" Mack questioned her, "I want that too!"
"Then we do it." Kim replied.
"As soon as I get out of here we will get it done." Adam had felt like Mack's dad from the minute Kim asked him to be her guardian in the event something happened to Kim. He had always felt protective of her, he had felt that way from the minute they found her in the street.
The more time he had spent with her the more he felt like her dad, and before long that was all he wanted. She was his kid, full stop. He didn't care about biology, he loved her as if she was his own and he didn't need a document to prove it, not really.
"I'm already your dad in my heart but I want everyone to know I'm your dad and you're my daughter, making it official will do just that."
"I want that too!" She didn't really understand the enormity of it all and what it meant legally but she too wanted everyone to know he was her dad. "I love you daddy!"
"I love you too kiddo!"
It had been a long day, both mentally and physically for Adam, he had spent a large chunk of his afternoon speaking with Voight, his union rep and IA. He knew time was of the essence but he had hoped he wouldn't have to deal with any of it until after he was discharged.
Once it was over and done with he had practically begged Kim to go home for a bit, she was reluctant but finally caved. She too was exhausted and she couldn't deny that the thought of a hot shower and sleeping in her own bed was enticing.
She hadn't been gone ten minutes before he fell hard and fast asleep, and only woke up hours later when Kim returned.
"Hey, baby." Kim whispered as she planted a kiss on his forehead, she saw his eyes flutter a bit and moved to kiss him on the mouth.
"Mmmm." Adam hummed, "hey to you too." He looked around the room, "where's Mack?"
Kim set her purse on the table, "Ava invited her over to play, she didn't want to go at first but I wanted her to have a little normalcy." She leaned in for another kiss, one with a bit more passion behind it, "..plus I wanted some alone time, just us. So we could talk."
"About marriage?" Adam scooted over in bed and invited Kim to lie beside him, she hesitated, "come lay with me, I'll be fine."
She did as he asked, carefully resting her arm on his chest, "Yes. I want to talk about marriage. Adam, I want to marry you."
"I wanna marry you." Adam kissed the top of her head, "You have to know that. You're it for me, darlin'. There's no one else I want to spend the rest of my life with. No one else I want at my side."
"I feel like we did everything backwards."
Adam laughed lightly, "We certainly did. It is a bit unconventional."
"That's us though, isn't it?" Kim looked up at him.
"Absolutely."
"I think we both knew it and that's why moving on from each other never really worked out, I feel like we needed to have that separation. We needed to grow up a bit, find ourselves, if that makes sense."
"It does." Adam replied, "I was a bit of an ass all those years ago, a little too cocky. A little immature."
"I wasn't confident in myself, I didn't trust my gut when it came to you. I let others cloud my judgement. I needed to find myself, to know that I was worthy. I hate the time we spent a part, but I truly believe it was good for us."
"I needed to know what I had with you, I needed to appreciate it and you. I took you for granted. I just expected you to be there. I didn't think I needed to put any work into our relationship, I just assumed you would always be there."
"I want to marry you, Adam. I don't need the big wedding, I just need you. You and Mack." Kim ran her hand over his heart.
Adam stilled her hand, "you may not need the big wedding but you deserve it." He was quiet for a moment, "can the judge who signs off on Mack's adoption marry us?"
Kim shrugged, "It's family court, I don't see why not. What're you thinking?"
"We get married at the court house and tell no one." He started, "then maybe surprise everyone with a big reception? To celebrate me adopting Mack and us getting hitched. If it's even possible?"
Kim loved the idea, "I don't see why not." The more she thought about it the more excited she became, "Adam, I think this is a wonderful idea." She kissed him quickly before jumping up off the bed. She grabbed a notepad from the table and starting making a list of what she needed to do, "I need to start making phone calls, I need to find a venue, find a dress…."
"Darlin', come back." Adam pleaded with her, "We have a lot to do, but right now I just want you here with me. I just want to hold you."
Kim put the notepad on the table and climbed back into the bed with Adam.
"You know if I knew getting shot would convince you to marry me, I would've arranged it years ago." Adam teased.
"You're not funny, Adam," Kim replied.
"It's kind of funny. C'mon Kim, you can laugh." He felt his eyes start to grow heavy, "hey why don't you head out, I'm tired. You can start planning, I know you're itching to make lists."
A MONTH LATER
Makayla was up before the sun and she was quick to make sure everyone else in the house was up as well.
"C'mon sleepy head!" She shoved Adam's shoulder, he slept like the dead. Kim laughed at her enthusiasm, "daddy, wake up! It's a big day!"
Adam opened an eye and feigned ignorance, "A big day? Really? What's happening?" He sat up, he was still moving a bit slow but well on the way to being completely recovered. He had yet to return to work but that was just two weeks away, and then it was at least three weeks of desk duty before he'd be cleared for light duty and then eventually being cleared for a return to full duty.
"Dad!" Makayla was clearly a little annoyed, "you remember what today is, we talked about it last night.."
"And the night before that, and the night before that, and the night before that…" Adam joked, "I'm so excited!"
"Me too! You're going to be my official dad and you and mommy are getting married! It's all we've talked about."
Adam laughed, "why don't you go grab some breakfast, mommy and I will be there in a few minutes."
"So, soon to be Mrs.Ruzek, ya wanna bump uglies one last time as Ms.Burgess? Whaddya say?" He asked suggestively, his hand creeping it's way under her tank top.
Kim indulged him for a few moments before slamming on the break leaving them both feeling a little frustrated.
"I'd love to but I'm waiting for marriage…" she kicked the covers off and slipped her robe on before heading to join Makayla in the kitchen.
Adam was a ball of nerves, he was still in shock that it was actually happening. He was finally getting everything he wanted, Kim was mere minutes from being his wife and Mack would be his legal daughter.
He jumped up when the judge entered the courtroom and took his seat, "Your Honor." Adam smiled politely, "good morning."
"Indeed it is." He replied, "This isn't a typical day for me but I'm pleased to be able to do this." He had never officiated a wedding and signed off on an adoption during the same case.
It was just a few minutes later that Kim and Makayla entered the courtroom and Adam felt himself go weak at the knees.
Kim had been crying off and on all morning but she had been able to reign it in for the most part but not now, now she was powerless to stop the tears.
"Hey…" Adam smiled before leaning in to kiss her cheek, "Bumblebee, you look beautiful." Adam hugged her.
"Like a princess?" She asked him.
"Absolutely." Adam looked back at Kim, "…and you are my beautiful queen."
"Well, that seals it.' The judge announced.
Makayla covered her face with her hands, "That's gross!" She screeched as her parents kissed for the first time as husband and wife.
Kim finally ended the kiss, it had been breathtaking both literally and figuratively, and she was a bit breathless, "I can't believe it. I'm you're wife and you're my husband." She reached up to wipe the smudge of lipstick from his lips, "and they said it would never happen."
Adam laughed, "I need one more kiss…."
Makayla stepped between them, "no more kissing! It's party day!"
"Alright daughter," Adam held her hand, "My favorite daughter, let's go party!"
They said their goodbyes to the judge, a copy of their marriage certificate and Makayla's adoption papers in hand.
"Congratulations Ruzek family." The judged called out as they left.
The photo of Kim sitting at Adam's bedside is what prompted this and I went back and forth on posting it as this subject has been covered ten ways from Sunday. I know we are all over the strike and miss Burzek so I figured what's one more, right?
As always thanks for reading.
