I'm still working on A Christmas Monster, but only during the holidays. I apologize for not updating last December, I was on a writers block. However, I came up with a new Monsters, Inc story that I am planning on sticking with, along with other fanfics. Don't forget to check out my Finding Nemo fanfic, Finding Revenge: The Story of Nemo's Toxic Life.
I tend to update more when I get feedback, so please follow and review! No harsh criticism please, but I'm willing to take suggestions, advice, and requests to make the story better. Also, I've been pretty lazy with proof reading. I do grammar check, but lately I haven't been reading my chapters. So, if you come across a lot of typos and mistakes, let me know and I will be glad to fix it!
Just a warning, this is a Mystery/Horror/Drama with some comedy/romance/friendship. It seems a lot when you read the genre, but I promise it will make more sense as you read the story. Also, I like to make good stories flow, so please be patience with the suspense!
Here we go!
Chapter One
"Cafeteria?"
"It's better than working as a janitor." Taking a spoon full of cereal with his big fluffy blue hand was one way for Jimmy P. Sullivan to get out of answering whatever next question his mother had him.
"But you're a Sullivan, dear. It's not scaring."
He knew she was right but working in the kitchen was getting close to the scare employees. It was closer than working as a janitor and in the mail room, which still had the benefit of being in the Monsters, Inc building. He was close; so remarkably close.
Monsters University didn't work out due to unfortunate events that got him expelled, along with his new best friend, Mike Wazowski. They were scaring majors, and it was their dream to become scarers and work in the Monsters, Inc company.
However, still wanting to get as close as they could, Jimmy and Mike got a job in the mail room. They did such an excellent job that they got promoted to cleaning. Then, their hard work got them promoted to cafeteria duty.
Jimmy's mother cleared her throat, not pleased with her son's silence. He was starting to feel a little off, because she didn't use to act this tense around him. Before, she appreciated him no matter what he achieved. Perhaps it was because he failed at college.
"I'm still a scarer, Ma," he said before slurping the rest of his cereal down.
"Slow down, sweetie."
"Sorry, first day on kitchen duty. Don't wanna be late."
"Wow, you really are becoming an early bloomer."
Jimmy had Mike to thank for that, because his friend, who was always ready to start his day, got him into that habit in college. When he was done with his breakfast, he threw his bowl in the sink, said goodbye to mother, and went out the door.
Starting his day out meant getting to work extra work, because there was things Mike had planned before he would start his first day in the cafeteria. Of course, that plan would have started off with him waiting for his best friend to make sure he wouldn't leave him hanging.
However, even though Mike did wait outside the Monsters, Inc building for fifteen minutes, assuming the big hairy guy would show up just as early, it didn't happen. The green ball-shaped monster grew impatient and scattered inside.
For most folks it was a gut-wrenching moment, and there was no doubt that Mike felt anxiety dwelling up inside him. Although he was more anxiously excited and felt like his body was going to burst with joy.
Mike stood in the distance and peered over toward the figure behind the main desk. There she was. The most beautiful feminine monster he had ever seen. Slimming tall with a face of purple skin and short hair. She was wearing a green-scaled sleeveless dress, and the color practically matched her one big, beautiful eye. Celia Mae
Mike remembered seeing her on the first day he was employed at Monsters, Inc, and he instantly fell for her in a heartbeat. Becoming her friend was no problem, and his charm warmed up in a perfect pace that was obviously making her heart skip a beat.
It had been a whole month, and now it was time for the man to request her phone number. He grinned as he watched her make a call over the counter. He adored her hard-working ethics. Her voice was so sweet, yet so strong when she spoke over the phone.
Sometimes, on his day off, Mike would call the front desk, just to hear Celia's voice, and then he would tease her over the phone and compliment how well she was doing. He, however, wanted to talk to her on her private phone. He had to ask her straight up.
The green monster took a deep breath and stepped forward. He wasn't afraid. He was excited, and the closer he reached her, the more joy he felt.
By the time Mike reached the front desk and placed his hands over the counter before gazing into the woman's beauty, Celia was just finishing up a phone call. She smiled at him as she spoke to the customer over the phone, seeming excited to see Mike.
"You, too, and have a nice day," she said before hanging up. "Good morning, Michael."
"Yes, it is," he replied. "And how are you today?"
"I'm doing just wonderful, thank you." She smiled big as she stacked some papers. "You're here early. Where's Sully?"
"Dunno, he probably slept in."
"It's still pretty early, though." She rested her cheek in her and leaned on her elbow while watching Mike closely. "So, is there something you wanted to talk about?"
"Well, I actually came early because I wanted to see you."
"Awe, you're so sweet. I like seeing you. I enjoy our morning chats, too."
"Me too! So, what if we made more time to talk? How about your number?"
Celia giggled as she picked up a pen. "What took you so long?"
Mike's smile grew. "Just being a gentleman." As Celia wrote down her number, Mile peered over at a familiar looking young man, who was slightly glancing at Mike while looking back at a piece of paper in his blue tentacled hands."
Mike's attention then went back on Celia when he heard her slam her hand down on the counter. He blinked down at it in curiosity before seeing the small note with all seven digits written down on it. He was more than happy to take it without hesitation and would have if the woman wouldn't have slid it back toward her as he reached to grab.
"Don't forget to call me."
Mike was surprised. "Of course, I won't forget. You aren't easy to forget, my dear."
She gave him a smile, but it was as if she was trying to test him. Still, she couldn't help but keep a straight face with all his charm. "Okay," she said as she slide the slip back to him and released it.
Mike instantly snatched it from the counter and took a good look at her beautiful handwriting of numbers. He grinned and looked back at her. "I am going to call you the minute I get home tonight."
"Good." The conversation ended there when the woman had another call coming. That gave Mike the opportunity to make his way over toward the monster that was watching him earlier. "Hey, Zane!" he called.
"Oh, hello, Mike," he said sweetly. He was just a little taller than the green-colored monster and had two violet-colored eyes. His voice was so soft, and everyone referred to him as the innocent employee.
"What's going on?"
"Well, I came to hand in my resignation letter."
Mike blinked his eye a few times before taking a step back. He was shocked. "What?" he said. "I thought Sully and I were going to be working with you in the cafeteria."
"Oh, I'm sorry Waternoose didn't tell you," Zane explained. "I was working until somebody came to take my spot. I got a new job offer as a novelist. I love to write."
"A novelist, eh? Well, Sully and I wish you the best. We are gonna miss you!"
"Yeah, it's been fun." Zane then left in a hurry, and that made Mike a bit curious. Although everyone knew that Zane was always the cautious type, so it was no surprise for him to act so skittishly.
He pushed that thought away and gazed upon the note with Celia's number on it. "Man, where is Sully. Is isn't that early!"
Jimmy tried to understand his friend's will to get up early and get started on the day. However, it wasn't as easy for him. He dragged himself along the sidewalk and made it to the crosswalk where he waited for the cars to drive by.
He tiredly gazed upon the street as the wind blew in his face. He almost blocked out all the noise due to his drowsiness when he suddenly heard a whisper.
"James."
"Huh?" Reality came back and Jimmy glanced behind him to see who had called him. Nobody was around, and that got the big guy puzzled.
It was time for him to cross the street, and when Jimmy got to the other side, he could see the Monsters, Inc building. He knew Mike would be waiting for him.
"James," the voice whispered again.
Jimmy stopped in his tracks and calmly shifted around. He could feel a presence, but who was it? When he faced the source, there was no source. He was starting to grow concerned, and a bit irritated. Obviously, somebody was messing with someone.
Although Jimmy didn't have a clue of why or who would do that. He tried to ignore it and stepped forward when he hard the sound of glass shattering. He peered down and saw a broken bottle, so he knelt to pick up the pieces.
After a few seconds, Jimmy saw red liquid drip from his hands, and realized he was bleeding. There were glass shards in his hands, and he began to panic when he saw other monsters walking by. He was too embarrassed and did not want anyone to see his clumsiness.
Jimmy left the glass on the ground, and hurried off toward Monsters, Inc, where Mike would be waiting. He was sure he was going to get a scolding from his friend.
