Prologue

Waking up on an ordinary morning wasn't supposed to be anything but, well, ordinary. But sometimes when things seem one way, they turn out to be very different. This morning was just like that and in fact, it wasn't very ordinary at all.

Getting out of bed, brushing your teeth, taking a shower, eating breakfast and going for a morning jog is pretty ordinary. Most people do those things every morning. Well maybe except for jogging. Not everyone goes on a morning jog, and most people definitely don't get hit by a truck while they're on their morning jog. Even fewer people, if no one at all, get sent to a different reality after getting killed by being run over by Truck-chan no less.

This is why this morning in particular, was anything but ordinary. It was probably the strangest thing to have ever happened to anyone, in this reality that is.

Being transported to who knows where after literally dying is probably a little strange to most. Being shown a textbox eerily similar to hints in video games is probably also a little strange. The strangest part is probably spectating the process of a character sheet being generated seemingly at random in front of your eyes.

Another textbox popped up after the other one closed.

Chapter 1

Waking up on an ordinary morning is not out of the norm for most people. One seemingly average kid is not normal. He seems like it to everyone else, but he himself knows that he really isn't. Or more like he'll realize that soon enough.

"Ugh, where the hell am I?" He said as he cleared the sleep from his eyes.

Looking around he noticed that he was in a very small room with a bed that had a drawer next to it, doubling as a nightstand with a small lamp on it. There was nothing else of note in the room, except for a window and a door.

A flash of memories hit him as he got up from the bed. These memories, he realized, didn't belong to him. They were of a child living in Konoha? Wasn't that a fictional place? How and why did he get here, and in the body of a little kid no less. He himself had been a fifteen-year-old kid before he got here, but now he was much younger than that. Deciding that he needed to get some answers to understand what was happening, he walked out of the room and into the corridor that he remembered with his new memories. They were almost separate from his own memories, as if they had their own compartments in his mind, probably because they weren't really his to begin with.

While musing over how he got here, he absently wandered into the dining hall noticing a couple other kids sitting at a large table with some cereal and milk for breakfast. He sat down near the end of the table where none of the other kids sat and started eating by himself.

While eating his breakfast, he looked through some more of his memories. He discovered that the kid that he somehow possessed, or overtook was a six-year-old named Kazuru. He didn't have a last name as his parent's names weren't known. They had been travelers seeking refuge in Konoha for some reason and had died only a couple days after he was born, during the Kyubi attack on the tenth of October, his own birthday being first of the same month. He seemed to be an ordinary orphan, living in an orphanage in Konoha and that was it, this kid wasn't really that interesting. He didn't have any hobbies or friends and spent most of his time just sitting by himself, observing other people. All in all he was a very boring and uncaring child.

'I can't say I don't feel bad for the kid, seeing as I basically took his place, meaning that he's probably dead or something, but at least it won't be a problem for me if I am to become a ninja.' He thought, because really, what else is there to do in the Naruto world? Becoming a ninja seems like the most obvious choice.

'At least no one will notice if I act differently than the kid would, seeing as he didn't socialize at all.' He thought as he was absently picking at the last piece of cereal left in his bowl.

Walking through the door, another kid came and sat down next to him. Looking at the kid, Kazuru noticed that it was none other than Uzumaki Naruto himself, looking rather sad. Thinking that it wasn't very fun looking at how miserable the kid seemed, he decided to talk to him, to see if he could maybe cheer him up or at least find out why the kid was sad in the first place.

"Hey, are you alright?" Kazuru asked, looking at the other boy with a slightly concerned look on his face. The other kid looked up, seemingly startled that Kazuru spoke to him.

"Y-yeah, I'm alright. It's nothing really." He said, smiling at the kid next to him, not knowing that the kid knew that his smile wasn't genuine.

"I'm Kazuru, what's your name?" The gray haired boy asked, looking at the boy curiously.

"My name is Uzumaki Naruto!" The blonde boy said enthusiastically.

"Nice to meet you Naruto, I'm wondering if there's anything to do around here, do you know?" He asked, not wanting to sit around and do nothing all day.

"You could play with some of the other kids or something." Naruto said, while eating his breakfast.

"Don't you want to play?" Kazuru asked, wondering why he excluded himself, by only mentioning the other kids and not himself.

"The other kids don't like me." The blonde kid said with a sullen expression.

"Well, do you wanna be friends? You can show me how you pass the time." He said thinking that it was a little sad that the blonde boy was lonely, but also that it would probably help me to be on friendly terms with the main character.

"Friends? You actually want to be my friend? YATTA! My first friend!" The boy exclaimed rather loudly, not caring about the other kids in the room at all.

"Sure, now how about we go do something." Kazuru suggested, not wanting to be bored.

"Okay, we can go to the forest and explore. I can show you my favorite spots." Naruto said as he got up and grabbed my sleeve, almost dragging me along.

The forest was large and was littered with a seemingly infinite amount of trees. Naruto showed his new and first friend his favorite places to play, train and sometimes hide, though from what or who he wouldn't say. Of course Kazuru already knew why so he didn't ask him about it.

They played together in the woods for some time and Naruto showed him some of his other favorite places, like a clearing that often had discarded kunai and shuriken lying around and a river where animals would go to drink water.

The last place they got to was the top of the Hokage monument, Naruto's favorite place.

The view was astounding. Words couldn't describe just how beautiful the village of Konoha looked from up there. They sat down and just enjoyed the view for a while, until Naruto spoke up.

"Thanks for hanging out with me, I appreciate someone being with me so I don't have to be alone on my birthday." He said with a bittersweet smile.

"Happy birthday, Naruto." Kazuru said, noticing how Naruto's eyes lit up and his face took on an ear splitting smile.

"Thank you so much Kazuru, you're the first person to tell me that other than Jiji." He said while wiping the tears that had gathered in his eyes.

"Jiji? Who's Jiji?" The gray haired boy intelligently said.

"Hokage-Jiji, that's who! Speaking of Jiji, let's go see him!" Naruto exclaimed enthusiastically.

Both kids got up and Kazuru let himself get dragged by Naruto to the Hokage's office. They reached the secretary and Naruto asked to see the Hokage. The secretary looked at him with an indifferent look saying that the Hokage currently isn't very busy, so they can just go knock on the door. Doing just that they heard a stern voice from the other side of the door.

"ENTER!" The third Hokage said, before seeing the two kids enter the office.

"Happy birthday Naruto-kun, who's your friend?" The old Hokage asked gently in a very grandfatherly way.

"This is my new friend Kazuru! He lives at the orphanage like me!" He said with a huge smile.

"I'm glad to hear that you've made a friend, Naruto-kun. As a birthday gift I was going to let you enroll in the academy next week." He said before he looked at the other kid in the office. "Kazuru-kun, would you also be interested in enrolling?" The old man asked, secretly hoping that the kid would say yes, so Naruto would have a friend in the academy.

"Yes, I would very much like that Hokage-sama." Kazuru said with a short bow to the Hokage.

"Okay then, seeing as it's Sunday today, you will both be enrolling tomorrow." He said as he smiled in his grandfatherly way.

"YATTA!" Naruto yelled. "Thanks Jiji, I promise I'll be a ninja in no time!" He said with a foxy smile.

Hiruzen just chuckled at that and sent the kids out of his office, wishing them good luck at the academy tomorrow.

The day ended with Kazuru and Naruto returning to the orphanage just in time for dinner. They both went to sleep shortly after that, both of them excited about starting at the academy on the next day.
