At the Ball

*Meanwhile, at the ball, Shadow (wearing his formal suit (look up "Prince Shadow-Cosium Outfits" by "LiyuConberma" on "DeviantArt")) was standing beside his parent's thrones. Harvey stood beside the King & Queen & Silver stood behind him, also wearing a formal suit (look up "Prince Silver-Cosium Outfits" by "LiyuConberma" on "DeviantArt"). A black & white male skunk was announcing the names of the guests as they arrived*

Geoffrey St. John: Princess Frederica Janie De la Fontain! *the Princess went up to Shadow, bowed & went back to the crowd* Mademoiselle Augustina DuBois! The daughter of General Pierre DuBois! Mademoiselle Lenora Mercedes De la Tour! Daughter of Colonel and Madame De la Tour! The Mademoiselles Fiona and Mindy Tremaine. Daughters of Lady Breezie Tremaine!

*The young ladies all gathered in front of the Royal Family, trying to get the Prince's attention. But Shadow hardly payed any attention to them. He just kept searching the ballroom for Abigail*

Queen Maria: Who are you looking for, darling?

Shadow: Uh . . . No one.

Queen Maria: It's that girl in the forest, isn't it? That's why you were go generous with the invitations.

Shadow: Mother, it was for the people.

Queen Maria: I know. But I also that your head's been turned. You only met her once. In the forest.

Shadow: And you and Father would only have me marry someone I met once, tonight.

Queen Maria: A Princess, dear. It's a Princess or nothing.

*Meanwhile, Abigail had just arrived at the palace. She made her way through the main hall. The guards all had their eyes on her as she went up the stairs, towards the ballroom*

Geoffrey St. John: Your Majesties! Your Royal Highness! My lords and ladies and gentlemen! Distinguished visitors, and people of our land! The Prince shall now choose his partner for the first dance! Let our ball commence!

*Just then, there was a knock at the ballroom doors. The butlers opened them & Abigail stepped into the room. Everyone stopped what they were doing & stared at her, mesmerized by her beauty. Even the King & Queen were curious about her. Shadow smiled as he immediately recognized her. The crowd parted as he made his way towards her. Abigail's eyes went wide when he saw him, recognizing him as the hedgehog he met in the forest. Soon, they were standing in front of each other in the center of the ballroom floor*

Abigail: Mister Shadow?

Shadow: It's you . . . Isn't it?

Abigail: Just so.

*He bowed to her

Shadow: Your Highness. If I may, that is . . . Is would give me the greatest pleasure if you would do me the honor of the first dance.

*Abigail curtsied back*

Abigail: I would love to.

*He put his arm around her waist as he pulled her close. Then they started dancing to the music*

Abigail: They're all looking at you . . .

Shadow: Believe me. They're all looking at you.

*Shadow singing*

Ten minutes ago I saw you

I looked up when you came through the door

My head started reeling

You gave me the feeling

The room had no ceiling or floor

Ten minutes ago I met you

And we murmured our how-do-you-do's

I wanted to ring out the bells

And fling out my arms and

To sing out the news

I have found her

She's an angel

With the dust of the stars in her eyes

We are dancing,

We are flying

And she's taking me back to the skies

In the arms of my love I'm flying

Over mountain and meadow and glen

And I like it so well

That for all I can tell

I may never come down again

I may never come down to earth again

*Abigail singing*

*Abigail singing*

I have found him

*All guests were in aw as the couple glided across the floor*

Silver: Who is she?

Harvey Who: I have no idea.

*The King & Queen smiled as they watched their son with this mysterious girl. Breezie & her daughters watched with jealousy*

*Shadow & Abigail singing*

In the arms of my love I'm flying

Over mountain and meadow and glen,

And I like it so well

That for all I can tell

I may never come down again!

I may never come down to earth again!

*The crowd cheered as they finished their dance & they bowed to each other*

Mindy: Who is that, Mother?

Breezie: I'm not exactly sure, but this does not bode well.

Fiona: That's a lovely dress she's got on.

Mindy: And her pretty shoes.

Breezie: Concentrate! Turn the Prince's head, you fools! Get out there!

Mindy: But no one's ashed us to dance!

*She got the attention of a blonde-yellow male mink (look up "Sonic Underground Redesign: Bartleby MontClair" by "rinkunokoisuru" on "DeviantArt") & a tan male lion with an orange mane (look up "Sonic Underground Redesign: Cyrus" by "rinkunokoisuru" on "DeviantArt")*

Breezie: Gentleman, maybe I present my daughters, Fiona and Mindy. Off you go!

*The two sisters went on to the floor with their partners as the next dance began. Shadow & Abigail were in the middle of a circle of dancing. Fiona & Mindy kept trying to get Shadow's attention, but he kept his eyes on Abigail*

Shadow: Come with me.

*He led her away from the ballroom & into a room full of paintings*

Abigail: So, you're the Prince!

Shadow: Not "the Prince" exactly. There are plenty of Princes in the world. I'm only a Prince.

Abigail: But . . . You are the son of the King and Queen?

Shadow: Yes . . . An apprentice monarch. Still learning my trade.

Abigail: Oh, gosh.

Shadow: Please forgive me. I thought you might treat me differently if you knew. I mistook you for a good honest country girl. Now I see you didn't want to treated any different either.

Abigail: Little chance of that.

Shadow: No more surprises?

Abigail: No more surprises. *she noticed a particular portrait on the wall* Is that you?

Shadow: I hate myself in paintings. Don't you?

Abigail: No one's ever painted my portrait.

Shadow: No? They should.

*Meanwhile, the servants started looking through the invitations to find out the name of the mystery girl. Breezie was on a mission of her own to find out*

*Meanwhile, Shadow & Abigail were taking a stroll through the garden & talking*

Abigail: Won't they miss at the ball?

Shadow: Maybe. But let's not go back just yet.

*Shadow started to look sad*

Abigail: What's wrong?

Shadow: When I go back, they'll try to pair me off with a lady of their choosing. I'm expected to marry for advantage.

Abigail: Who's advantage?

Shadow: That is a good question.

Abigail: Surely you have a right to your own heart.

Shadow: I must weigh that against the King's wishes. He's a wise ruler and a loving Father.

Abigail: Perhaps he'll change his mind

Shadow:

*They went to another part of the garden*

Shadow: Here is where I played war games when I was little.

Abigail: Who did you play with?

Shadow: Silver, my squire. He was my only friend growing up. And who did you play with?

Abigail: I had many friends. The sheep, the geese, the mice, and the Chaos that lived in the forest nearby.

Shadow: Are they good company?

Abigail: They're excellent listeners. *they turned a corner* How beautiful.

Shadow: My Mother loves it here. She and my Father often go on walks here after dinner.

Abigail: Both my parents are in heaven. I think heaven is like the Royal Ball. Everyone's invited.

Shadow: That's because of you. I made sure that everyone could come because I hoped to see you again.

Abigail: Well, I'm glad you did. Because I wanted to see you again too.

Shadow: Not the Prince?

Abigail: No. Prince is far too grand.

*He smiled & took her hand*

Shadow: Come with me. I want to show you something. *he led her to a secluded part of the garden* I never shown this place to anyone.

*He opened a door, revealing a hidden garden with a swing in the center*

Abigail: A secret garden . . . Oh, I love it!

*She admired the swing. Shadow motioned for her to sit down*

Shadow: Please?

Abigail: I shouldn't.

Shadow: You should.

Abigail: I shouldn't.

Shadow: You should.

Abigail: Shouldn't.

Shadow: You should.

Abigail: I will.

*She sat down"

Shadow: May I?

Abigail: Please.

*He gently pushed her. She went back & forth a few times until one of her shoes fell off. Shadow went to pick it up*

Shadow: It's made of glass?

Abigail: And why not?

Shadow: Allow me.

Abigail: Thank you.

*He put the shoe back on her foot. Then he pulled her close*

Shadow: Won't you tell me who you really are?

Abigail: If I do, I think everything might be different.

Shadow: I don't understand. Can you at least tell me your name?

Abigail: My name is -

*Suddenly, the clock tower went off*

Abigail: Oh no!

Shadow: What's the matter?

Abigail: It's midnight!

Shadow: Yes, so it is. But why -

Abigail: Goodbye.

*She started to leave, but Shadow grabbed her hand*

Shadow: No, wait. You can't go now. It's only.

Abigail: I'm sorry, but I have to.

Shadow: But why?

Abigail: Well, you see . . .

GONG!

Abigail: Goodbye!

*She started running back to the castle*

Shadow: No, wait! Come back! You haven't told me your name!

GONG!

*Abigail made her way back into the ballroom, running past Harvey & Silver*

Abigail: Goodbye!

*Harvey gave her a wave, but realized something*

Harvey Who: I say! Young lady!

*He, Silver, & the Colonel ran after her. Shadow tried to follow them, but was stopped by a group of ladies bombarding him with questions. Abigail ran down the stairs, leading out of the ballroom. Underneath them, a brown male porcupine with blue eyes & tan skin, & a pink male pig with blue eyes were frantically looking over the invitations*

GONG!

Dylan: He needs her name!

Hamlin: I know he needs her name!

*Just then, Geoffrey came up behind them*

Geoffrey St. John: Her name, you ninny! Get her name! *suddenly, he crashed into a pillar* That really hurt!

*Suddenly, at the top of the stairs, Abigail bumped into the King & Queen*

Abigail: Oh, Your Majesties!

King Gerald: Young lady.

*She bowed to them*

Abigail: I am so sorry!

Queen Maria: Oh, think nothing of it, my dear.

GONG!

*She headed out the doors, but stopped & turned back to them*

Abigail: I wanted to say, Your Majesties. Your son Shadow is the most lovely person I've ever met. So good and brave. You both should be very proud of him. Excuse me!

*The King & Queen were surprised at what she said as she left*

*Abigail was halfway down the front palace steps when she lost one of her glass slippers. She went back to get it, but stopped & ran away when she saw Harvey, Silver, & the Colonel coming"

GONG!

Harvey Who: Wait, my lady! Just a moment!

*Silver scooped up the slipper. Muttski motioned for her to hurry as she climbed into the carriage & they drove away*

GONG!

Harvey Who: Stop that coach! Close the gates!

*The gates started to close, but they carriage got through them through just before they could*

GONG!

Colonel Stripes: Follow that coach! Open the gates!

*A squad of knights started following the carriage. The mice went as fast as they could, trying to get back to the chateau before the stroke of twelve*

GONG!

GONG!

GONG!

GONG!

*Suddenly, on the final chime, everything turned back to normal. The horses turned back into mice, Major & Muttski were their former selves again, Abigail was wearing rags again, & she was sitting on a regular pumpkin. Suddenly, they all saw knights coming & rushed to hide in the woods. They soon ran past them, crushing the pumpkin under their horse's hoofs*

*Meanwhile, back at the palace, Shadow arrived on the steps & was holding the slipper*

Shadow: I'll find you again. No matter where you are.

*Abigail rode back the rest of the way back to the chateau on Major. The mice riding in her shoe & Muttski walked beside them. Soon, it started to rain. When she got home, she hid the slipper in the hidden compartment beside the fireplace, just as her Step Family got home*
