Emiko could barely shake off the memory of what Serizawa had shown her. Hagiwara drove his motorcycle to her house. She slowly got off, bowed and walked to the house where Ogata and Shinkichi were waiting.

"Hey, Emiko," Ogata greeted. "Glad to see you're back!"

Emiko didn't say a word and just silently removed her shoes. Ogata and Shinkichi exchanged concerned glances.

"Is something wrong?" Shinkichi asked.

"No," Emiko replied emotionlessly. "Nothing's wrong."

"Are you sure?" Shinkichi asked. "Because you look as pale as a sheet."

"Is my father back home yet?" Emiko asked, ignoring the question.

"Actually, no." Ogata replied. "He called us while you were away. He said he was attending a meeting with G.R.I.D. on what to do with Godzilla and wouldn't be back until the evening."

"If you ask me," Shinkichi muttered. "We should just keep bombarding him until he drops dead."

Emiko flashed a gaze at the young Oto Islander. "Shinkichi, if he could survive depth charges and an H-Bomb, what good is that going to do?"

"I don't see either of you coming up with any ideas!" he snapped.

For a few seconds, the three stood in silence until the kettle began to whistle. Ogata sighed and walked over to the kettle, lifting it off the burner and setting it aside. He placed a bag of green tea into it and turned his attention to Emiko and Shinkichi. He took in a deep breath and began to speak.

"It's..." Ogata spoke slowly, "It's not as easy as you'd think, Shinkichi. You can be as angry and hateful toward Godzilla, and with very good reason, as much as you'd want, but, you know that nobody has a good answer at this point."

Shinkichi nodded, but he still felt bitter. All he wanted right now was to wake up from this reality and back into the reality where his mother and brother were still alive and Godzilla was just a bedtime story and not a reality. He could feel a great sorrow flood his veins.

It's just so unfair, he thought as tears started to leak from his eyes. All Emiko and Ogata could do was cast sympathetic glances to the young man.

November 1st, 5:00 PM, Yamane Household, 1954

Emiko had just started working on dinner when she heard her father enter the door and uncaringly kick his shoes off. She walked out to see her father sigh in frustration and exhaustion.

"So, how did it go?" she asked.

"How do you think?" Yamane told her. "They wanted me to tell them if I had an idea on how to kill Godzilla."

"And did you?" she asked.

"No." Yamane told her bluntly. "I kept trying to tell them that Godzilla was worth more studying than killing but, they refused to listen."

Emiko nodded and continued to work on dinner all the while her father continued speaking.

"This creature is a goldmine of scientific knowledge! Imagine what we can learn from him, what we could grasp from an organism such as this. This creature is no more a simple animal than he is a god of flesh and bone! The fact he was able to survive for so long into the Age of Man is astounding! He's an evolutionary marvel!"

"Not if he continues to kill people." Shinkichi asked bluntly revealing he had been listening in. "If the death toll rises and innocent people continue to die at his hand, this 'evolutionary marvel' as you call him is gonna become an evolutionary nightmare."

"Shinkichi, I understand your concern," Yamane told him, sighing. "Really I do, but the fact of the matter is-"

"What if Emiko died that day?" Shinkichi interrupted.

"Excuse me?" Yamane asked.

"You heard me," Shinkichi replied, his voice growing with impatience. "What if Emiko died at Godzilla's hands on Oto Island before I could save her? How would you react, Professor?"

"Well, I would mourn her of course," Yamane replied. "I mean, what parent wouldn't mourn the passing of their child? But the fact of the matter is-"

"THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS THAT YOU'RE NOT SEEING THE BIGGER PICTURE!" Shinkichi screamed before stomping off.

Emiko was about to run after him but was stopped by her father.

"Let him go, Emiko." he told her. "Shinkichi's made his point as I have."

Emiko was about to speak, when suddenly sirens went off in the distance and the radio was replaced by an emergency news announcement.

"Emergency... Emergency. Godzilla sighted moving towards Shinigawa Ward. All civilians in the path of Godzilla are ordered to evacuate and seek shelter immediately. This is not a test, repeating, this is not a test."

Emiko, Shinkichi, Ogata, and Yamane all glanced at each other and dashed out the door just in time to see Godzilla's head poking out of Tokyo Bay, his fiery eyes piercing through the twilight. In addition, they could see tracer rounds from machine guns flying through the air. Without thinking, all four dashed down to see crowds running in the streets, some of them carrying all they could on rickshaws. Some people even carried their pets like dogs and cats in their arms. Yamane then noticed a crowd trying desperately to get back to their homes, only to be stopped in their tracks by a soldier.

Yamane and his group ran up to the soldier but they too were stopped in their tracks.

"I'm sorry, sir." the soldier told him. "We can't let you through this point."

"It's okay, I'm Professor Yamane!" Yamane told him.

The soldier shook his head. "It doesn't matter, you're not getting through this point, I'm sorry."

"If you're not going to let me through, then you should tell your CO not to shine lights in Godzilla's eyes." Yamane begged. "It'll only further agitate him!"

"Professor," Ogata pointed out. "There's a hill not too far from here, we can watch from there."

Yamane nodded and the four dashed toward the hill to get a good vantage point, along with a handful of other refugees, and they watched as Godzilla lumbered out of the bay. The beast let loose his bone-shaking roar as he trudged along, kicking up dust and debris and annihilating any structure that got in his path all the while the masses of people scrambled to get as far away as they could from the gargantuan reptile. The machine guns still fired at him, but it seemed as if the beast's crocodilian skin simply absorbed the bullets. However, his attention was not on them, but rather a lighthouse. With a growl that could be heard even from miles away, Godzilla lunged for the lighthouse. For one second the building stood, for the next it disintegrated into nothing before Godzilla began moving further inland. He finally made his way to the train tracks with the train speeding towards him. The spectators watched as the train got closer and closer and only applied the brakes as Godzilla stepped onto the tracks. However, it was far too late. The train rammed into Godzilla's foot, eliciting a roar of either pain or surprise as the train crumpled against him like it was colliding with a steel-enforced brick wall. Even from this far away, Yamane and the others could see passengers scrambling out of broken windows of each cabin, going so far as to pull out any injured or dying people as they could. They all watched in awestruck horror as Godzilla reached down and grabbed the cabin, biting into the engine and shaking it like a dog with a bone before throwing it into the air. If one were to listen very carefully, they would hear the conductor let out a scream as the cabin met the earth, breaking apart on impact. As if to add insult to injury, Godzilla stomped down on another cabin, crushing it as if it were a soda can. Whether or not there were still people in that car, nobody could say. They could only watch as Godzilla continued onwards.

Eventually, Godzilla came upon a bridge. He paused for a moment, glaring down at the structure before he lifted his foot and slammed it down on the structure, causing it to crumble into twisted metal. He then took the time to look around at the destruction he caused. Once he seemed content, Godzilla roared into the sky and turned around, his massive tail annihilating any structure surrounding him, and he began to lumber back into the bay. The people watched as Godzilla's colossal form vanished beneath the waves.

Shinkichi then flashed Yamane a look.

"Still think he's worth keeping alive now?" he asked.

Yamane didn't answer. He was just standing there, trying to take in the raw, primal might he had just witnessed as the sounds of fire truck sirens filled the air.
