Chapter Twelve

"'None of your business'?" Mike said in disbelief. He was standing by the counter where Celia was working, and couldn't help but come and vent to her. "'None of your business'!"

Celia finished collecting papers as the little monster ranted, and listened to everything he was the least she could do to be there for him when he was upset about his fight with Jimmy.

"How could he say that?" Mike began to pace around as he threw his arms up, going on about how his friend had no right to treat him like an enemy. "It's not like I was the one who made the scene yesterday. He is the one that set the fire alarm!"

"Oh Mike, I hate to see you so upset," Celia said in a genuine way.

Mike let out a sigh and glanced over at her. "I can't help it, Celia. I worked hard to get where I'm at. I even did what I could to help Sully, and he has to–"

"Micheal," Celia interrupted as she stroked his head, calming the green monster down. "Sometimes friends need space. It's normal, especially with ones that are as close as you and Sully are. I think going to the park today is a wonderful idea."

Mike agreed, and as he felt the woman's hand's touch, he inhaled to calm himself. "Yeah, you're right."

It definitely made Mike feel better, but hearing that Jimmy was sent home to take an extra day off for what happened was only another step back.

The little green monster attempted to make conversation with his friend, but he stopped himself, remembering what Celia said about giving him space.

Mike watched Jimmy awkwardly as he stood by Celia.

Jimmy took a look at Mike, hoping that he would realize that he was wrong and talk to their boss for him. When Mike stayed put, Jimmy took off, and the two felt distressed.

Mike tried to not feel discouraged, though, and after his shift, walked Celia to the park. He went on about how he was as a kid, and how he used to play sports. Then he left off with how hard he worked to get into the university so he could become a scarer.

"Smart and athletic," Celia said with a grin as she and Mike made their way to the beautiful park with trees of green leaves and blue flowers. "And not to mention, very charming."

Mike chuckled. "There's a lot about me to learn, but I'm more interested in you, Celia." The little green monster stopped in his tracks, and peered up at the beautiful woman.

Celia glanced down at him and slowly took his hand with hers. It was the start of any information Mike wanted to get from her; she liked him a lot.

Mike tightened their grip a little, and shifted her over to a bench, still hand in hand.

"I'm sure you will become a Scarer one day," Celia said, "even if you do start small."

"You really think I will?"

"Absolutely, because you have a heart for anything you search for."

Mike's smile grew, and the feeling pushed him into getting down from the bench, and going for a flower to pick for his lovely girl. He wasn't sure to start with something in the ground or from the tree.

"Both you and Sully will succeed," Celia eventually added.

At that instant, Mike felt a pang in his chest, and remembered what he and Jimmy had been through together. Then, memories of Jimmy pulling the fire alarm went through his head, and a vision of his best friend in his recent nightmare flashed before his eyes. Thinking of Jimmy made it hard for Mike.

Mike shouted out in agony as he fell to his knees, not thinking of what would happen, or even remembering where he was at the moment.

Celia was caught off guard, and highly startled by his actions. "Mike?"

"No!" Mike screamed.

"Micheal?"

"What am I gonna do? I worked so hard to get this far, but so has Sully. But this isn't my fault, I shouldn't have to put up with it. I'm gonna lose my job!"

Celia finally rushed down to the little green monster with concern. "Micheal!" she cried out.

Mike ignored her, and everything else around him. He didn't realize how many monsters were watching him. "What am I gonna do? What am I gonna do!"

Celia did her best to comfort Mike, rubbing his arm, and giving him calming words. She didn't know what else to do.

At least until Mike finally settled down, Celia took him home, where Jimmy was awaiting and shocked by their sudden appearance.
