Xander and Cordelia had been sequestered in an observation room. Dr. Janet Frazer had gone in and done an exam and Major Carter had taken the laptop for examination. Dr. Daniel Jackson was talking to Xander thru the observation window, while Colonel Jack O'Neill and Major General Hammond watched. Cordelia had managed to explain as much as she could about what had happened to them. General Hammond had reassigned their follow up mission to Kalowna to SG 2.
Major Carter slipped into the observation room with her report.
"The laptop he modified is processing at a far faster speed then any computer I've ever seen, sir. He used it to hack into the cameras and put them on a feedback loop and to open an exit door. I've got techs resetting the computers."
"Good. Colonel, see what you can do to make sure a couple of teenagers never manage to break onto my base again."
"Do my best, sir. Hoping the repository thing is a one time thing."
"Dr. Jackson? What have you found out?"
"He said the Nox can help him. I explained to him that this has happened before to Colonel O'Neill and that Jack went to the Asguard for help. Before I could tell him that Jack built a one time use power booster, Xander told me traveling to another galaxy would require Potentia level power. I asked him what a Potentia was and he said a storage model for zero point energy. I have no idea what that is."
"I do." Major Carter said. "It's energy that never comes to a complete stop, It's a theoretical concept that we haven't yet been able to prove. There is potentially a limitless amount of such energy found in the vacuum of space. A storage model that could hold and use such energy would be a very stable and powerful energy."
"So he understands that it would take more power then we can produce to get to the Asguard, which means he knows were they are." General Hammond said.
"Jack did too." Daniel said. "But he's asking for the Nox. He's says they can help him, the Asguard can't. He keeps using a word I don't recognize, Mageca. I have no idea what that is, but he says the Nox practice it and can help him."
"Any idea why only he and Colonel O'Neill could make these repositories work? No one else has been able to even activate them."
Then they heard Xander's voice from the observation room. "Genetic key."
"General." Daniel said, hesitantly. "The intercom button is off. He heard us thru the glass."
"What does he mean by a genetic key?" General Hammond asked.
"He means the repositories are accessed by something in a person's genetic code. But that would imply that Colonel O'Neill and Xander Harris are related to the Ancients." Major Carter said.
"And Cordelia." Xander said, again hearing them thru the glass.
"Me?!" Cordelia asked, startled.
"Passed thru force field. Also requires genetic key." Xander said, in Ancient.
"He says she also passed thru the force field and that it requires this same genetic key." Daniel translated, holding down the intercom so Cordelia could hear his answer as well.
"How can they be related to the Ancients?" General Hammond asked.
Again they heard Xander's voice from the observation room. "Alterrans returned to Terra 10,000 years ago. They sought Ascention. Became living energy, but not all of them. Some refused and made their homes among humans. Only a few. Alterrans are human, evolved first. They had evolved to the point of a very long life span. 1,000 years. Reproduction was increasingly rare and difficult as their lifespans increased. They would consider themselves blessed to have two children in that time." Daniel translated Xander's message, again holding down the intercom button so Cordelia could hear his translation.
"That means their population had very little increase by that time." Major Carter said. She saw Xander nod thru the glass.
"Are there any still living on Earth?" General Hammond asked.
"No, sir." Xander answered. "The last full Alterran died over 9,000 years ago. Their legacy passed down." Daniel again translated.
"What does that mean?" General Hammond asked.
"He means the genetic key passed down to their descendants." Major Carter said. "They're too far removed from their ancestors to be considered Alterran anymore. Thousands of years of Earth humans breeding with the descendants."
"Interesting." Daniel said thoughtfully. "The Bible mentions that before the flood, people could live for hundreds of years. I wonder if it was the Alterrans they were referring to."
"I'd avoid mentioning that theory around Senator Kinsey, if I was you." General Hammond said.
"Yes, sir." Daniel answered.
A knock on the door alerted them to Dr. Frazer requesting entrance.
"I need to ask Xander some questions." She said.
"Go ahead Doctor." General Hammond told her. "Dr. Jackson can translate."
"Ask him why he has proteins that are only produced by marine life in his tissues." Dr. Frazer said, to the astonishment of the others. Daniel translated for Xander, who answered the question.
"He said it's part of why only the Nox can help him. The swim coach at his High School experimented on the team without their knowledge or consent. The rest mutated. Xander joined later in the season. When it was discovered, the doctors did a full body blood transfusion and replaced his total volume with donor blood."
"That's not a good way to deal with that. That much donor blood could have caused a lot of problems. They should have known that. They should have just filtered his own blood. And it only removed what was currently in his own blood. His body had already been affected by the previous exposure. What happened to this coach and the other students?" Dr. Frazer asked.
Daniel translated. "The mutated students killed the coach and escaped into the sewer system. They haven't been seen since. The school nurse was also killed. She was an accomplice, documented everything, but reported nothing."
"Why didn't we hear anything about this?" Major Carter asked. "You'd think it would be in all the papers."
Daniel translated again. "The Major of their town, Sunnydale, California, was third generation corrupt. The Wilkins family ran Sunnydale for a century. They had control over the police, the papers, everything. Rumor has it the Mayor was going to make some changes that the rest didn't like. A gang attacked their High School graduation ceremony where the Mayor was speaking. The Mayor, The Principal and two students died and the High School blew up."
