The four heroes later returned to the Avengers Compound where they decided to begin their trials in time travel. Scott brought his van which contained the entrance to the quantum realm. After weeks of precise engineering and quantum calculations, they were finally ready to make history as far as they knew and be the first to attempt time travel.
Bruce made some last minute calculations on a nearby panel whilst Scott was anxiously waiting. Starting to twitch and nervously fidget his Antman suit.
"Okay, here we go. Time travel test number one. Scott, fire up the uhhh... the van thing."
The portal to the mysterious quantum realm opened. Steve made his final checks on the power.
"Breakers are set, emergency generators are on standby."
"Good. 'Cause if we blow the grid, I don't wanna lose Tiny here in the 1940's. Not a great time for small people in the big city uh no offence Ste-"
"-Wait Excuse me?" Scott interjected in panic
"He's kidding." Reassured Natasha with fake confidence. She turned to Hulk and with a hushed tone scolded "You can't say things like that!"
"Sorry it was Just... It was a bad joke."
"…You were kidding, right?"
"I have no idea. We're talking about time travel here. Either it's all a joke, or none of it is." Bruce whispered back. He turned to Scott and said in an over confident voice "We're good! Get your helmet on, Scott. I'm gonna send you back a week, let you walk around for an hour, then bring you back in 10 seconds. Makes sense?"
"Perfectly not confusing." Scott muttered, trying to ignore the last minute nerves and shakes growing rapidly inside him.
"Good luck, Scott. You got this." reassured Steve
Scott looked across the room at the man who gave this last-minute affirmation. Suddenly he felt a sense of pride wash over him with a hint of patriotism. Scott stood up tall and gave a smirk.
"You're right. I do, Captain Americ-." He answered. He felt like giving a salute before he heard a button get pressed and he was sucked into the quantum Tunnel.
Ten agonising seconds later it was time to see if the experiment was a success or not
"On the count of three. 3... 2... 1!"
Bruce pressed a button, and a figure in the Antman suit reappeared. But it wasn't the same person who went in. Whoever was in the Ant-Man suit looked closer to 15 then 50
"Uh, guys? This...this doesn't feel right."
Bruce immediately figuring out something was wrong started to readjust the calculations in the panel as the room fell into panicked chaos.
"What is this?"
"What's going on?"
"That...who is that?"
"Hold on!"
"Is that Scott?"
"Yes, it's Scott!"
The now teen Scott Lang was sucked back into the quantum tunnel and promptly returned having aged around 75 years
"Ow! My back!" exclaimed the Ant-pensioner
"What is this?" asked Steve in complete disbelief
"Can I get a little space here."
"Yeah yeah. Can you bring him back?"
"I'm working on it!" Bellowed hulk, pressing firmly on a button to the side
After a moment, another person appears in front of them. The suit lay limp on the avengers compound. For a second everyone worryingly thought it was empty before hearing a soft gurgling noise from the helmet. This time, the Ant-Man suit was occupied by a baby.
"…It's a baby."
"It's Scott."
"As a baby!"
"He'll grow."
"Bring Scott back!"
The experiment was an obvious failure, right now the no 1 priority was to get Scott Lang back in preferably the same age as when he left. Bruce ordered Natasha "When I say kill the power, kill the power." Whilst trying a new calculation that was probably Scott's best hope of survival.
Bruce finished imputing the final formula and barked "And... Kill it!"
Natasha pulled down the generator's main lever, and which caused the whole lab to shut down Scott, the seemingly normal Scott, was ejected from the quantum tunnel. He looked awestruck and didn't know what to say after a reality changing experience like that. Who knows if he's even the same man again after what he went through. Finally Scott found the words to declare…
"…Somebody peed my pants. But I don't know if it was "baby" me or "old" me...Or just "me" me."
"Oh thank god." Natasha sighed in relief.
The Hulk always trying to be the group optimist held his hands in a dramatic way and declared "Time travel!"
Steve said nothing. He simply shook his head and walked away
As he walked outside the compound faintly hearing Bruce argue "What? I..I see this as an absolute win!" in defence of the obviously failed experiment. Steve tried his best not to lose hope. He stared down at the floor deep in thought trying not to acknowledge that the only possibility of victory was so far away. Steve realised he needed a miracle and right on cue came a fancy Audi speeding towards him. The window rolled down as he saw a familiar snarky face
"Why the long face? Let me guess: He turned into a baby." Tony quipped Sarcastically.
