Chapter 9 – Nappa

Nappa walked a few meters behind the group of captives. He wanted to put as much distance as possible between himself and these disgusting Humans who had been crying, screaming, and protesting non-stop since they had left the Command Room. Even the blue-haired woman, whom he had initially found amusing because she was dishing out insults to anyone passing by, was seriously starting to get on his nerves. They all headed towards the changing room, on the lowest floor of the ship, where he and the two other soldiers assigned by Frieza were supposed to strip the hostages of their clothes and belongings, before guiding them towards the dormitory. A task which was sometimes assigned to him, but which he did not particularly like.

That's why, once they arrived there, Nappa was irritated to see that a second group of Humans in distress was waiting for them. He grimaced as he watched them pile up on top of each other, right in the middle of the spacious room. He counted them quickly. Sixteen. In total, there were sixteen Humans at the dawn of a nervous breakdown.

And he needed to deal with all of them.

Here was an amusing way to end this charming evening.

Dissatisfied, Nappa tried to concentrate on what Vegeta had asked him. He growled as he tried to spot the blue-haired woman who had mingled with the rest of the group. He didn't have to search her for long because a hysterical voice soon caught his attention.

"Chi-Chi!" she screamed.

He quickly spotted her and saw that she had launched herself into the arms of another woman. Nappa immediately recognized the pair. The second woman was that black-haired Human who looked exactly like a Saiyan. Apparently, she had also been captured.

The Saiyan observed them for a moment as they hugged each other with emotion. The smallest one started to cry, while the other whispered comforting words in her ear. Seeing an opportunity to intervene with his target, he approached them.

"You two!" he said furiously. "Split up from each other!"

They looked up at him as he walked around the group of Humans towards them. He then grabbed them both by the arm and forced them apart before dragging them aside, near the lined-up showers on the wall. He went back to the group, randomly grabbed three other Humans and tossed them right next to the girls.

"Everyone, listen now! I don't have time to waste with miserable Humans like you. I want you to stand near the showers and undress." he ordered without further preliminaries.

The still complaining Humans fell silent upon hearing the behemoth speak in such an authoritative manner. Some obeyed, others froze, terrified at the possibility of having to undress in front of so many people. The blue-haired woman opened her mouth to protest and say out loud what everyone had in mind.

"Undress? But why? What are you going to do with us? Are we your prisoners now? You guys will ask ransoms to the government, right? You want money? Or do you intend to torture us to extract information from us? I demand explanations. We have the right to know! This woman here has a child at home who...

Nappa growled loudly as he pumped up his Ki. She immediately shut up, more surprised than afraid. He certainly wasn't going to endure her hysterical blabbering.

"Shut up!" he shouted furiously. "Like I said, I don't have time to waste. So, you do what I say, and you don't get to ask questions. If one of you starts talking again, I'll make sure to get your mouth shut with my fist. Is that clear?"

All Humans nodded silently in approval. Good. They got the message. Those who were still hesitant took their places near the showers and began to take off their clothes. All Humans except her, who stared at him with a frown. Still, she had enough judgment not to open her mouth again.

"Good" Nappa said, with a bit more calm this time. "Keep in mind that I am here to welcome you, and that we are not here to hurt you in any way. Once your clothes are removed, you will take a disinfectant shower and put on the new suit that will be given to you. You have three minutes from now. Otherwise, we will send you to the dormitory with nothing to wear, and I should mention that Frieza likes cool temperatures, so you better take advantage of this three minutes to do as I said."

Nappa was pleased to see that everyone started to move with more enthusiasm, especially when they realized that there was a deadline to be met. The blue-haired woman, however, remained motionless, her turquoise eyes still fixed on him.

"What? Do you need help? Do you want me to take off your clothes?" he asked, playing with his thin mustache.

Disgust appeared on the young woman's delicate face. Nappa laughed. He really had no interest in her, much less ripping her clothes off by force, but if she didn't cooperate, he would have to do it. Luckily, her friend placed her hand on her shoulder and tried to give her reason.

"Come on, let's hurry. We don't really have a choice, anyway" she said, looking at the imposing build of the Saiyan who was looming over them.

Triumphant, Nappa smiled as he watched the women carry out his orders. They took off their clothes, one with modesty, the other one with fury, before joining the other Humans under the shared shower.

"Not so fast" Nappa said.

The women froze and looked at him questioningly.

"You have to remove EVERYTHING" he added, pointing at the blue-haired woman's wrist.

She looked down at her bracelet, and a flash of opposition crossed her face. Instinctively, she tucked her arm to her chest and circled the jewel with her other hand to protect it.

"This bracelet has a high sentimental value to me. I can't get rid of it" she said in a firm voice.

"I really don't care. Put it with the rest of your clothes" Nappa replied, pointing to the small pile of fabric on which a yellow sweater sat. "You can get it back later if you want."

It was a lie, of course, and she rightly hesitated for a moment. Then, as time was running out, she complied. Her face full of rage, she activated a mechanism that allowed her to open the hinge, removed the bracelet, and carefully placed it with the rest of her belongings. She finally headed towards the showers, joining the other Humans who were scrubbing their bodies vigorously under the streams of cold water.

As soon as she was away, Nappa turned and started to pick up the clothes left behind. When he took the yellow sweater, he subtly slipped the golden bracelet under his armor. His perverted colleagues enjoying the view offered by the naked Humans, his gesture went completely unnoticed.

The operation could not have been easier.

His objective being now fulfilled, he threw the collected clothes into a container intended for destruction and began to give away clean overalls to the freshly washed Humans. The woman took hers with curiosity. She put it on, and a stunned look appeared on her face when she noticed that the tight black outfit suited her as well as her friend, even if both of them did not have the same body shape at all.

"This outfit is temporary" said the soldier called Valrès in a loud voice so that everyone could hear him. "You will be given new clothes when you are assigned to your real duties."

"Our real duties? What do you mean by that?" asked a familiar female voice.

"This ship is huge." he replied, looking at the blue-haired woman who had just spoken. "It houses thousands of soldiers. We have a great need for resources and manpower. Each of you will be assigned a specific function to fulfill within the crew. The choice depends on your talents and your qualifications. You could work in the kitchens, for example. Or housekeeping and medical care."

Nappa approached the young woman with a slow step, a wicked smile on his mouth. Valrès had neglected to mention an important option, probably to avoid scaring the hostages more than they already were.

But the Saiyan was not a very lenient one.

"And let's not forget about the Quarters." he added, ogling without embarrassment at the woman's voluptuous breasts. "In your case, I would say there is a good chance that you will be sent there."

The two other soldiers chuckled subtly from across the room, causing the woman to frown.

"What is it?" she asked him, honestly curious.

"A place soldiers can get some peace after a tough mission. This is where Frieza's men gather to relax a little."

Nappa crossed his arms on his colossal chest, a smile on his lips.

"That's where whores are sent." he informed her crudely.

The Saiyan was pleased to see that the information had brought a flash of horror to her blue irises. She finally seemed to understand what future held for her if she opposed the Emperor and those who obeyed him. And, as he liked to instill this kind of feeling in others, he decided to add another layer to it.

"But don't worry, your boyfriend is no longer here to give you jealous fits now. You can have as much fun as you want with the men who want you."

The woman's eyes, until then clouded by revolt, flooded with tears. She clenched her jaw, probably in an attempt to contain the wave of sadness that threatened to flow down her cheeks. She took a step toward him, and Nappa swore she was about to jump into the air and strangle him. Luckily, for the second time in less than ten minutes, her kind friend held her back by placing her hands on her shoulders. Perfectly aware that she had no chance of emerging victorious from such a confrontation, she bowed to the rationality of the black-haired woman, and she contented herself with words to spit out her resentment.

"You're nothing more than a monster…" she breathed. "One day, I'm going to make you pay for killing him."

Nappa cheekily raised his chin at the threat. She was totally ridiculous. Did she not see how insignificant she was? He blew air through his nose before turning his back on her, completely indifferent to her sadness and her desire for revenge.

"Enough now!" he declared in a loud voice. "Tonight, you can enjoy a good night's sleep in the dormitories. Your duties will be official in the coming days."

He turned to his colleagues.

"I am tired. You two can escort them yourselves." he concluded, heading towards the exit and leaving the pathetic group behind.

Once the changing room door closed, Nappa activated his scouter to locate the vital imprint of Vegeta and Raditz. He noticed that they were no longer in the Command Room, but rather two floors higher, in his own bedroom, where they were probably waiting for him to discuss recent events. As he headed towards the elevator, the Saiyan briefly wondered why they had been dismissed so quickly. He had expected Frieza to demand an explanation from Vegeta, to lecture him or punish him. But apparently it had been otherwise, because once he arrived at his personal space, he found them both sitting at the small table in the center of the immaculate room. As soon as the door slid aside to let him in, he saw Vegeta jump up from his chair.

He waited until the door closed to give them some privacy before digging under his armor.

"If I had known you were a fan of feminine jewelry, I would have given you some more often." mocked Nappa, throwing him the golden bracelet.

Vegeta caught it, growling, while Raditz laughed. The latter was slumped in his chair, his boots stained with blood and soot leaning on the table. The huge Saiyan approached him and slammed at his feet angrily.

"Get your dirty things off my dinner table." he grumbled.

"It's not my fault that I was badly raised." retorted Raditz.

All three of them knew that Nappa was the one to blame on that matter. The latter answered with a punch in his shoulder. The long-haired Saiyan gasped from the impact, but he certainly needed more to complain.

"Vegeta didn't want to wear this bracelet during his cute moments." explained Raditz. "You remember the hot, busty girl it belonged to? She had a Ki weapon."

Nappa grunted in agreement.

"Yeah, I noticed. How come was she able to use one anyway?" he asked, dropping his heavy carcass onto the chair beside him. "I thought Ki weapons were synced to the Empire scouters, and that it took extensive training to know how to use it properly."

"Exactly." replied Vegeta, who had followed the conversation, carefully observing the piece of jewelry in his hands. "She couldn't have just grabbed a weapon lying on the ground to use it."

"And how is that linked to this bracelet?" asked Nappa.

Vegeta didn't answer right away. The two Saiyans saw him narrow his eyes while examining one of the tiny ellipse-shaped charms that adorned it. He began to touch it, sliding his thumb across the gold metal surface, then pressed harder on what appeared to be a tiny switch.

And… nothing happened.

Vegeta looked up at his henchmen.

"Just before we parted, I saw her crouching under the counter, playing with this bracelet as if her life depended on it. The next second, she was armed. This weapon certainly didn't appear out of thin air. And from what I could see, it probably wasn't the first time she'd had one in her hands."

"Oh no!" agreed Raditz. "You saw it too, Nappa, right? She knew exactly what she was doing when she blew up that Saibaman."

"She did what?!" Vegeta asked, his attention suddenly caught.

"She blew up a Saibaman." Nappa repeated. "Poof! Just like that. It was crazy! The new models of Ki weapon are more powerful than I thought. The creature really didn't stand a chance."

"You missed a nice show." Raditz added, placing his feet back on the table. "Look, I still have plenty of it's green sap on my armor."

The prince frowned. He raised his arm to get a better look at the bracelet under the light of the neon hanging from the ceiling. After a moment, his face relaxed, as if hypnotized by the golden reflections sparkling in his pupils.

Nappa, unfamiliar with the prince's fascination with the jewel, cleared his throat before changing the subject.

"How come are you not currently being beat up?" he asked, pushing Raditz's filthy feet off his table for a second time. "Frieza must have been in a good mood to let you go without trying to rip your head off. Tonight's mission was completely botched."

Raditz retaliated by kicking him in the side, while Vegeta placed the bracelet safely under his armor.

"Zarbon arrived in the Command Room just after you left." explained the Saiyan sitting next to him. "And as soon as Frieza saw his precious little ass, he dismissed us all."

Nappa raised an eyebrow as he turned to Vegeta.

"He didn't even ask for a report?"

"Not yet." replied the prince, turning his back on him. "Apparently, Zarbon had something more interesting to say."

Vegeta strode towards the exit. He had nothing more to do with them, now that he had gotten what he wanted. He pressed the button to the right of the door with a gloved finger and it opened with a gust of wind.

"But I'm sure it will come, pretty soon.", he added, turning his head towards them to give them a knowing smile over his shoulder.

And without another word, he slipped away.

Raditz and Nappa started laughing. They knew, just like their prince, that what had happened during the evening would not be forgiven so easily. Frieza never missed an opportunity to give them a good beating, and delivering the report of this bungled mission would certainly be no exception. It was, therefore, not a question of knowing "if" there would be consequences, but rather "when" it would happen.

But they were Saiyans to their very core, and they certainly did not fear the reprimands of the Emperor. On the opposite, they saw these moments as an opportunity to put their fighting talents into action and to strengthen themselves through the ordeal that it represented. Even if it inevitably resulted in a few broken bones and a displaced joint or two.

Once the prince had left, Raditz, still leaning lazily on the back of his chair, placed his hands behind his head and positioned his feet for the third time right in the center of Nappa's dinner table.

"How long before he pays a visit to the Quarters, you think?" he asked his colleague.

Nappa took a swing and this time, he pushed Raditz's legs with enough force to knock him out of his chair.

"I don't even give him a week." he replied, laughing.
