Jacob was tired of this whole dynamic. He had been out with Bella this afternoon, like they had a thousand times before, but lately the leech was always waiting for her right outside the reservation. Didn't he realize how controlling and untrusting he came across? And why didn't Bella see how toxic his behavior was? Bella could be really stupid sometimes. She had almost died because of this guy, several times, yet still she loved him. And not Jacob.
Jacob could see Edward's stone cold face flinch slightly. He was definitely listening in on his thoughts. The creep couldn't just let someone have their privacy, he always had to know everything.
"Bella," Edward said softly, "go sit in the car." Jacob rolled his eyes at the demand. So toxic. Bella glanced over at Jacob for a second, as if to ask if he was okay to be left alone with the leech. Jacob nodded slightly back, and she left for the car. It's not as if he was scared of the guy, his tribe was literally made to kill creatures like him. If he wanted to he could easily ki–
"Enough!" Edward let out. His face almost looked shocked over his own outburst, but quickly returned to normal.
"I wasn't thinking anything that isn't true," Jacob said, "so you better play nice, leech."
In a split second Edward was now standing right in front of him, so close they were almost touching. Jacob felt the urge to back up, but he stood his ground. He wasn't about to back down to one of them.
"What the hell?" Jacob demanded, but Edward seemed to be too preoccupied staring him down. His golden eyes were locked onto his own, and Jacob felt uncomfortable.
The moment lasted a little bit too long, before Edward finally opened his mouth, "I'm doing what Bella wants, but don't think for a second I won't keep her away if you–" he paused for a second, "if you do anything out of line," he finished, but didn't back up.
Jacob could feel his blood boiling. If HE did anything out of line?! "Good luck telling Bella that!" He snarled, leaning in closer. He was taller, and now he was looming over the bloodsucker. If he wanted to he could crush that–
"She'd understand," Edward interrupted his thoughts, "if I only told her the vile things going on in your brain." His pale face twisted into a sly grin, but his eyes looked sad somehow.
"Go on, tell her!" Jacob laughed, before flashing an image of himself kissing Bella in his mind. He was about to make the fantasy raunchier when Edward pounced. Before Jacob had the time to react he was being pushed backwards into the woods at superhuman speed. When they were far out of Bella's view, which was undoubtedly the point, Jacob's back hit the ground with a loud thud.
Edward stood over him, but in a flash it was Jacob who was pushing Edward to the ground. If Edward wanted a fight, Jacob wasn't holding back. He was fuming. How could that bloodsucker think it was a good idea to initiate a fight with a Quileute wolf?
"I think you're underestimating your opponent," Edward hissed, before flipping them over on the ground. Jacob's shirtless torso was being pushed down by Edward's stone cold hands.
And that's when it happened; Jacob's whole world shifted. It felt like the earth stopped turning, and the forest around them faded into the background. Jacob's breath caught in his throat, his heart was racing, and everything he could see was Edward's beautiful face above him. It felt like he was in a trance, or maybe that he just got out of a trance that had lasted his whole life up until this moment.
How had he not noticed how stunning Edward was before? It felt like he saw the man for the first time. He could see now how his bronze colored locks framed his perfectly angular features as his jaw clenched. He saw how the warmth of his confused topaz eyes contrasted beautifully with his cold yet enticing skin. How his nose complemented the proportions of his face perfectly, and how his lips curved elegantly when he opened his mouth as if in shock. He looked like the mold for perfection. Like the ideal.
The spot where Edward's cold hands were placed on his pecs suddenly felt burning hot, and he became acutely aware of the rest of Edward's body pushing down on him. Edward's thigh was pressed up against his crotch in a way that felt–
Edward leapt up from his body. His alluring features were now curled into a disgusted and shocked frown that snapped Jacob back into reality. The world around them came crashing back into view and the actuality of what had just happened made Jacob feel like throwing up. Had he really just imprinted? Yes, there was no doubt about it. But how could this be? How could Edward be the one? Edward was… a man. And he was also a vampire. A bloodsucker. A leech.
He tore his eyes away from Edward, who seemed to be contemplating murder, and looked down on his own trembling hands. Fuck, this couldn't be real. He needed to escape. Fuck. Without looking back he advanced towards the deep, dark cover of the trees. He ran as fast as his human feet could carry him, which was significantly slower than his wolf could run, but he didn't phase, he couldn't. The pack couldn't know what had happened. He couldn't reenter the mind link. They could never know.
His feet skipped over rocks and branches, and he weaved between trees. Never once did he look back to see if Edward was following him, because he knew he wasn't. Edward had to go back to Bella. To the love of his life, Bella. Bella, who Jacob had, until moments ago, thought was the love of his life too. The urge to puke came back, but he sped up.
He had to find a way to break the bond, but the thought made his insides clench. Edward. He wanted Edward. "Don't break the bond, I need Edward," his mind was screaming. "AAARH!" He threw his hands over his face as he screamed out loud, and his foot caught in the root of a tree. His body went flying through the air before he tumbled across the ground and hit a big rock. "FUUUCK!"
The speed at which he was running must have been faster than he thought. His bones felt crushed. He looked down to see his leg completely bent in the wrong direction, and blood was pouring out of a large gash in his side. Somehow the pain felt comforting. He tried focusing on the pain, letting his mind be consumed by it until there was nothing left but excruciating agony.
And his mind relaxed for a second.
