(Chapter 1: Welcome to Yggdrasil)
Dubin, Ireland, Jan 13, 2022
It was the middle of the night in the city of Dubin, where a kid with sunglasses, dresses in a red suit who is looking very young at the age of thirteen stood still atop the ledge of a church, observing the crowd below him before he gazed up towards the cloudy black sky with many stars that could be seen.
He admired them, and it was quite a beautiful view. He wished he could paint it and become the artist he'd dreamed of. But he has to be older to do that.
As he stares at the sky, for a few moments of silence until that silence was broken by the sounds of footsteps he recognized immediately.
"Serena."
"Grand Maegester, James Conner." A little dark skin girl with black hair who is dressed in a blue dress and white sneakers spoke as she walked up to behind him. "Apologies for the intrusion."
"You did no such thing, my friend. Is there a reason you wanted to speak to me?" The boy known as James asked, not taking his eyes off that night sky.
"Yes, something big and interesting. We have found the traitor formerly known as the Red." Serena reported.
He turned towards her with a surprise expression. "Are you certain? Is it her?"
"I am." Serena responded. "One of our spies caught her and saw her killing two of my best agents and one of our most skilled members of the Order."
"A temporary loss of our ranks." James brushed off. "They will be avenged once the traitor has been dealt with."
"Yes." Serena commented. "Speaking of which, shall I send the Death Hunter after her?"
"No, that won't be necessary." James told her. "I will go and deal with the turncoat myself. But If I don't make it back, If I'm not back, you will be the new Grand Maegester."
Briefly caught off guard by his willingness to give him command. She bowed her head. "You can Count on me."
"But before I go, I believe it's time to test it out in the field."
Serena knows exactly what he's referring to; she wanted to protest, but she knew once his mind was made up there was no use changing it. "Meet me at the Red Dragon bar when you are ready."
"Very well." James said as he watched her leaped from the ledge and landed inside of a hay bale, before she pulled herself out and ran to the location.
The sky was covered in thunderclouds, prompting the gray clouds to rain heavily onto the soil, creating mud. James stood patiently at the center of a courtyard, the rain pattering on his umbrella in hand while waiting patiently for the turncoat to show up.
He was alone out in the open, hopefully this would draw the traitor out of hiding. As a risky move and a huge gamble it was.
Yet as he waited for his target to show. He spotted a figure appearing in his line of sight, standing on a small building.
James slowly placed a hand in his pocket, reaching for something inside.
The figure he saw before him was a girl. Her mouth and nose were covered in a red cloth, the rest of her face was covered by a red hood. She was dressed in a red pinkish tunic dress, around her neck was a light red cape with a gold medallion with a red Assassin insignia curved on it. She has on tan pants and black boots. In her hands were gray fingerless gloves, around her waist was a blue sash underneath a white belt with many pouches. She was equipped with a few weapons at her disposal.
The girl finally stepped off the building, landing onto the ground with a quiet thump as her feet touched the soaked mud. She rose to full height, standing at equal size to the Order member.
Conner finally decided to confront the girl. Her eyes filled with that of anger, pain, no regret but sadness, something terrible in her past. But a Hidden Child is still a Hidden Child.
"So you're the Red." He stated, rather than asked.
"I do not go by that color name anymore." The girl speaks with an Irish accent, her hand resting upon her gun in anticipation.
"Perhaps you don't. May I have the name of my opponent before she is dead?" James asked.
"Ya already know who I am. if I'm not mistaken, you are the son of Tim Conner, the Templar Grandmaster." She spoke in a cold voice.
That almost caught him off guard. "So you hear of him? Good, it seems you haven't lost your edge… Alyssa."
The girl known as Alyssa gives him a silent look.
"I'll take your silence as a yes. Who would've thought I'd be talking to the daughter of Rose Cormac."
"Do not speak her name." Alyssa immediately said as she placed a hateful glare at him.
"And why shouldn't I?" He questioned. "She is the late descendant of Shay Patrick Cormac, is she not? Especially you. Though you are aware that you are the last blood of the Cormac Family."
"I believe the time of talkin' is over." Alyssa pulls out a pistol and is ready to shoot him here and now.
"I would strongly advise you to think twice before you pull the trigger." James said as he finally pulled that something out of his pocket. "Unless you want to face total death." That's something in his hand. It was a golden orb with strange line symbols while it glows making a weird sound.
Alyssa looks at it and immediately recognizes it.
"The Apple of Eden!" She voiced in horror.
"The one and only." James evilly grinned. "No, I'm curious what happens if I use it to-" he was interrupted when a bullet was fired and shot through his left shoulder, causing him to let go of the ancient relic as it hit the floor.
He screams in pain, nearly falling to the watery muddy ground, covering his bleeding shoulder with a hand.
"You… shot me?" He glared towards the Hidden Child holding her smoking pistol. "You freaking shot me! You dare make a mockery of-"
"Shut up." Alyssa raced over to him and punched him in the side of his face before tackling him backwards to the muddy ground making his clothes dirty. She then punched James' face repeatedly with her fist before stopping. She raised her arm in the air and flexed her hand. As she did this, a long blade emerged from the front of her forearm bracer.
She plunged it into his neck, causing James' eyes to widen in pain and fear. Blood began to seep from his mouth, as Alyssa retracted the blade from his throat. James slowly dies, as blood seeping down from his throat and mouth as he stared directly at his enemy.
Alyssa took a medallion with a dark red cross curved on it before standing up off him and pockets it. 'One less Grand Maegester of the Order dealt with.'
She looks at the artifact that was still on the dirty Ground. She marches over toward the relic and picks it up.
Briefly looking at it while in her hand, she immediately put it away.
'I should go to the nearest bureau and report this to the others.' Before she could be on her way.
Appearing out of nowhere a sudden golden vortex of energy had formed in her. It seemed to be functioning as a vacuum, as she felt an unnatural pull towards it. She readied her stance, this portal was not going to take her that easily.
It was sucking everything in, including the lifeless corpse.
Alyssa noticed the strange vortx was wasn't going away anytime sooner. 'It doesn't appear that the portal will close until I go through it. If this keeps up, it could possibly take the entire world with it.' She stared into the portal. 'Looks like I have no other choice.' She leaped forward into the rift shortly after it closed and disappeared.
Realm-Midgard
Unknown Time
Unknown Date
Unknown Location
The Hidden Child stirred feeling the harshness of the sun beating down on her outfit, her eyelids felt like velcro as peeling them open was such a strain that she wondered how long she had them closed. Light assaulted her vision. She squinted as she groggily forced himself up. She steadied herself on wobbly legs and swallowed a couple of times to prevent losing the food in her stomach. Everything in her body felt sore and her head was being plagued by a pounding headache, in a word: she felt like hell.
She stumbled towards a buried large rock and held on to it to stop her body from collapsing, opening her eyes fully when it adjusted to the light so she could take in her surroundings.
"Where am I?" Alyssa find herself in a cleared forest in the middle of the day, judging from the environment, she was definitely not in Dubin nor of its outskirts.
Is painfully obvious that she is in an ultimate reality in other words an alternate dimension, it didn't take her long enough to realize the situation she's currently in. That portal, the one she'd gone through, must be a dimensional rift gate.
But the question herself, is she really is in another world?
To confirm her suspicion. She took out her comm-radio and attempted to contact with her brothers and sisters.
"Hidden Eagle to Falcon do you copy?"
There was complete static of the other end of the call.
"Falcon, are you there?"
There was no response
Alyssa switched to different Comm channels but once again there was no response.
Giving up, she put her radio back where it belongs to her pocket. "Great how am I gonna to get back?" Asking herself.
When suddenly her head felt as though someone had been hitting at it with a hammer. She brought her hand to the side of her head and groaned painfully, experiencing another headache.
'I hate headaches these days.' She waited for it to go away.
After a minute had passed the pain was gone, she gently took her hand off of her head. "Let's hope I won't experience that again."
"Hey you!"
"Huh?" Alyssa heard a female voice out of nowhere from behind her, she turned around to see no one.
"I'm not behind you, I'm down here beneath your feet." Alyssa looks down beneath her feet just as the voice said but once again, she saw nothing.
Getting a little annoyed and tired of this, so she took out her pistol. "Whoever ya are, best ya show yourself or I'll put a bullet in between your head."
"Ohh! No need for violence." The voice said. "I'm no threat, I can assure you I'm friendly."
"Then what do ya want?" Alyssa nearly exclaimed. "Be quick, I am not in a good mood."
"Well, it's not what I want, it's what you almost did. You nearly stepped on my house." The voice told her.
"Your house? I don't see your house and I definitely don't see yer." Alyssa tries to look for the mysterious voice with eagle vision, but not even her ability was able to locate the individual. "So, why wouldn't ya show yourself?"
"Well, I could but…in order for you to see me, you need to sign you on some paperwork?"
"Paperwork?" She raised a brow.
"Yes paperwork if you could just look down below your feet." Alyssa looks down her feet and sees a tiny stacks of paperwork that appeared from nowhere. "I took the liberty of filling out the relevant papers for you. Now, if you could just sign there and-"
"How do I know this ain't sort of a trick?" Alyssa asked suspiciously, interrupting her.
"It is not a trick I assure you again I swear, if you sign your name on the paperwork, you will be able to see me and my home."
Standing still for a moment while thinking carefully. Then what felt like half a minute she returned her gun to the holster. "Fine." Alyssa put up her stack of papers and read them briefly. "Yer best be tellin' the truth." She took out a pin that she stole from her former allegiance and signed her full name down. "There." She sat the tiny stack back where it was. "Now where are ya?"
"Look at your shoulder."
Alyssa turned her head, glanced at her left shoulder and saw a small elf pop out. "Hello!" The elf has brown skin and black, curly hair. She has black stick-like legs and arms. She is dressed in a blue dress with a red sash, and wears a pointy hat.
Alyssa stares at her in surprise, never in her life she'd seen an elf being small like a shape of an ant before except for the ones she read about them from fantasy books in a library. "You're a dark elf."
"Thank you." She smiles. "I'm glad you noticed."
"But why are ya small? I thought elves were supposed to be the same size as humans are." Alyssa questioned.
The she-elf smile faded and looked in sadness as she let out a sigh from her mouth. "We were… until the Allfather placed a curse on my people to be forever small, we cannot be seen or touched by any creature including humans, unless they sign the correct, lengthy paperwork, granting them the permanent ability to see my kind and their villages." She explained, once finished she completely forgot about something. "Oh that reminds me, can you kindly move your foot away from my house."
Alyssa looked down once again, and saw her right booted foot that was nearly close to the elf's small house. "Sorry." She moves her foot away from it.
"Thank you." The elf said.
The Wolfwalker took a moment to observe around and see a few small houses like hers throughout the area. "I have a question for ya that needs to be answered. Where am I? What world is this?"
"This world is called Midgard, the realm of the humans." The elf explained.
"Midgard? This place is Midgard? One of the nine realms of Yggdrasil?" Alyssa questioned with a surprise tone in her voice. She recalled learning Norse mythology in history back from kindergarten school but only very little of it.
She wasn't stupid that Midgard is Earth. So the other realms are also planets throughout the Solar System in space.
The elf nodded. "It is indeed. But there aren't nine realms of Yggdrasil; there's fourteen of them."
'Fourteen?' Alyssa looked rather interested. Since when does the world tree have these new places in its branches? There were supposed to be nine. Is she really in a dimensional world? Or was it different?
"That reminds me, what is your name?" Alyssa leaves her thoughts and glances at the dark elf who asks of her identity.
"Alyssa. You?"
"Adeline." She introduced with a warm smile. "It's nice to meet you."
"Hmph." Alyssa looks away with a scowl, part of her need to find a place to live for now in some city or town while trying to find a way to get back to her original dimension. She still has the ancient artifact of the first civilization in her possession, but she has little doubts that's going to help her get back.
"I have another question for ya." Alyssa spoke gently. "Is there a town or city nearby that I may settle in?"
"Yes." Adeline replied. "This is a city named Trolberg. It's not too far from here."
Worst name she ever heard but at least Alyssa got what she needed. "How far is it? Which directions? How many miles?"
"Forty four miles southeast you can travel by car or by foot." The dark elf answered. "As I said, it's not too far from here. But if you're lucky, you could get a view from it by standing on a clifftop; you could see how big the city is."
"I make me own luck." The Reaper reaches for her left shoulder and carefully grabs the elf from the back collar of her outfit with two of her gigantic fingers; she takes her off and gently places her down next to the small house. "Thank ya for the information. By the way, one last question, by any chance, has Ragnarok begun?"
"No." Adeline shook her tiny head. Though she was a bit surprised by her last question about Ragnarok in suspicion, how does she know about it? Who told her? Did she learn it by herself? At any rate she put these glues aside for now and continued. "It hasn't begun yet. We are still waiting for it, preparing for the worst to come."
"Good to know, see ya." Alyssa waves at her hand before she turns around and walks off.
"Hope, we'll meet again." Adeline waves back, watching her leave.
AC Rogue Unreleased Soundtrack- Memory Corrider- Starts)
Alyssa was seem laying on the icy ground close to her former childhood friend, Megson Mcblue who is pouring a pool of blood from her back.
Now if you're wondering how did these two individuals and like this. Both were cornered at a cliff side and dueled with each other. However, the cliff side began to collapse from a tremor causing both girls to fall.
Alyssa used Megson to break her fall, and the latter was fatally wounded.
Megson look down at her serious injuries upon her, knowing that she doesn't have long until she dies. She took one last glance at her former friend.
"That was...lucky."
Alyssa groaned in pain trying to get up but unable to yet despite surviving the fall using her former friend as a cushion bed it did do some damage onto her, but not any serious damage. "How many times do I have to tell ya Megson. I make my own luck."
"And how did you do that?!" Megson angrily questioned. "You...You broke the Children of Ancient Order, betrayed everyone you knew, sided with... our worst enemies...rename them... becoming their founder and stolen the Templars' ideas...and for what?"
"To save the world."
"Hehe... well, I hope that world... is a good one..."
Alyssa stood on a clifftop, from there she got a great view of the city known as Trolberg before her.
"This must be the city, she was talkin' about."
The sea of tiled roofs of mid-rise buildings, colorful apartments with gray streets lined by lush trees, urban flora, and wide pavements. Populated by adults and children milling about on their day.
Wildlife, albeit scarce, finds and teems across the urban landscape. From colorful birds to squirrels, to the visiting balloon wolves, the ferocious creatures between a fish and the lion, and even the occasional rats that few dread to accommodate in their homes.
At the center of the city were towering skyscrapers, large billboards, modern centers, and city service makes up the city's skyline and economical heart.
The river divides the city, leading to the salty harbor in the south, flowing into a bay that opens up to the sea. Where the fishermen haul in their latest catch, before selling it in the wet markets right by the farmer's market. Where vendors already set up their stalls and tents displaying their products and wares, eager to sell.
The walls, the defining feature of Trolberg. Built to keep out Trolls, thus its namesake. The humble bell is the city's symbol. Bell towers are a key feature of the city as it wards off Trolls with its ringing. It lines the wall adjacent to any gates and railroad tracks. The historic landmark of the wall stood for nearly a hundred years defending the city.
Especially when Trolls, Forest Giants, and other creatures roam lands, who often have unfortunate scuffles with humans. The Huldrawoods. Castle ruins remain of an old civilization dotted the outskirt left to be forgotten, crumbling away into dust.
"It doesn't seem impressive to me but I got to admit it looks good." Alyssa commented. "But I seem bigger." She brought her hands up and pulls down the hood off, revealing her long crimson hair.
"Boy." Alyssa also pulls down her handkerchief revealing her nose and mouth. "Iontach (magnificent). This is such a view from here." Taking a breath she gets back to her focus. "All right, let's go down there."
With that, she turned and walked down the cliff. As she headed toward the city surrounded by its massive walls situated in the middle. Alyssa wonders in her thoughts what this city has on stone for her.
As Alyssa went through the opened gate, she entered the city. She thanked the guard keeper of the gate for being kind to welcome her in.
Walking calmly on the stone sidewalk, passing through the crowd of people. They were giving her weird looks towards her weapons, which she Ignored but kept cautiously.
The Crimson Terror took one look around the city she was within and whistled in impressment. 'I gotta say this looks nicer than any other places I've been before but…' She narrowed her eyes and made a deep frown on her face. 'It has a dark side in fact, all places have them within its own system and it's swarming with evil.'
What she said was indeed true.
This city is probably worse than any other cities, towns and villages she had been to or heard of. The rich and powerful lived their lives in such wealth and arrogance in tall skyscrapers and fancy penthouses and mansions. The poor were barely able to scrape by for a day and people died every day, either due to suicide, starvation, or crime.
It also possibly had the highest crime rate in the entire world history. The crime happened almost every minute or hour of the day there, it was even worse at night. And because of all the corrupt politicians, no criminal ever stayed behind bars for long because they were always out within the hour or second.
Trolberg may be the most dangerous place she has been before other than Dubin or any or all cities in Ireland depending on which is worse than the other. It may be the closest thing to hell in the entire world.
However, that didn't matter to the Hidden Child. She doesn't care if this city is either peaceful or dangerous.
'it looks like I am gonna here for a while until I find my way back home. But for now I should find myself a house to settle in and as for the city, Trolberg. It hasn't always needed heroes, and it still does what it needs now is a protector.' Alyssa took a breath for a moment. 'Naturally not all places don't need protectors or heroes, it depends on the people whether they didn't want to or not. That's how society is, they are neither good nor evil. In other times the world doesn't always need a white knight. It needs something darker.'
And so the Reaper continued onward, walking straight ahead. Unknown to her, she was being watched from behind by a blonde teenage girl with a white hair clip inserted in her facial hairline. She wears a salmon-pink long sleeve-shirt with a white star in the middle, light blue jeans with pink and white high tops shoes. She was hiding among the crowd observing the little girl with red hair.
'Why hello there, looks like I found myself, a new fish in the grinder.' The teenager known as Kelly, also known as the Marra with blonde hair, continues to watch as the girl is still walking away, with a sinister smile. 'I could just follow her to whatever hole she's crawling into and scare the jeepers out of her with one of my 'special gifts' but I got other big fishes to fry. So it's best to save her for dessert. I sure hope the girls don't get her first before I do.' She turned around and went searching for prey to scare for the night.
As the sun was setting in its course of action. The Blood Valkyrie continued to explore the city until she came upon the entertainment district. It was filled with dazzling lights and featured all kinds of venues such as restaurants, bars, movie theaters, and stores. It was also packed to the brim with people enjoying the nightlife.
She continued to walk past the citizens who paid her no mind. She did garner the attention of a tall and slim girl. She has long, white hair pulled back into two ponytails, some red freckles and dots on her face. She wears an oversized dark purple sweatshirt, a light pink scarf around her neck, and salmon pink tights with black sneakers, who noticed her.
She was casually standing straight leaning her back against a random pole, pretending to look at her pink shell compact in her hands.
Raising an eyebrow. 'What's with the weapons? And is that dry blood on her hand?'
Alyssa ignores her and goes past her. She saw a crowd gathered around an electronics store looking at a news report on a flat-screen television in the display window. Paying no mind to that, none of that her concern. She soon leaves the district. She continued on the road through the city, hoping for something good and interesting. If not something bad happens she'll stop it.
Suddenly her walking came to a halt. The modern girl turned her head toward an old small manor house in between two buildings.
A three story apartment and one story bakery.
Its windows were boarded up, the front entrance its double doors too and its main paint was all dried up.
Alyssa notices the old rusty mailbox beside the front yard of the manor it bears the Templar logo on the left side.
This could only mean one thing. They were here in this dimension before her.
The girl with red hair narrowed her eyes at the symbol. 'So the Templars were here, didn't expect that. But what if they're here then that means…" Her eyes widened in realization. "The Assassins are here as well. But the question is, are they really here? And the real question is, how did both factions get here? Did they come here the same way exactly I did? Or somehow did they magically get here purposely?' so many theories that cannot be answered, unless they need to be certain.
'At any rate.' Alyssa turned her gaze to the manor again. 'I found a base of operations. But how to get inside? Hmm… maybe I should check the back to see if it's not covered up with wood.'
After going around the back she sneaked inside the manor by climbing over a broken shattered window carefully, not getting herself cut and thankfully it wasn't boarded up. She looked around, seeing no furniture or anything in particular, only dust all over the floor and cobwebs on different corners of the ceiling; the whole house was empty.
Whoever lives here doesn't need it to stay anymore, but that didn't matter to her. She hopes the previous owner doesn't mind.
But she wonders who the previous owner was? Were he or she is a Templar themselves? Did they get killed by Assassins? Or have they decide to left this place abandoned?
So many clues are appearing in her head each of them demands an answer but she'll push those aside for now.
The inside of the place was very pitch black dark, hard to see but thankfully she had a flashlight in hand to help her see perfectly.
Alyssa sits down on the floor at the center of the empty living room and relaxes. Now that she could relax, she began to think clearly. 'Alright I got myself a bureau. Now all I need is food resources, weaponry, money and furniture basically everythin'. But unfortunately achievin' those objectives will be hard and will take time. I could steal them,' a smirk fell on the Hidden Child Leader's face. 'But there is no need for that.' She reached inside of her back pocket and pulled out a rainbow colored stone. "Good thing I got this."
This item, she has in her hand. Is called a Wishing Rock. It allows the user to grant eight free wishes. It glows different colors when the user makes a wish be it good or evil. But once all the wishes are gone the stone will disappear out of the hard of the user and it could only be found at the end of the rainbow.
And by any chance if she sees a rainbow in the sky she will retrieve the stone back into her possession before anyone else could or will.
"Let's get started." Alyssa makes her wishes, speaking to the stone.
Eight hours later…
"Annnd done." Dusting off her hands, the Reaper placed a red sofa at the center of the living room along with a television set attached to the wall. She spent her hours making her new home habitable which consisted of cleaning the dusty floor and getting rid of the cobwebs. She didn't use her hands. Thankfully, she found an old broom and dustpan she discovered in the closet near the kitchen, putting them into good use.
Now, if you're wondering, what did she wish for from the wishing rock?
Her first wish is to have a television set, the second and third a sofa, her other weapons brought here to this alternate world via teleportation which she had stored them all in the storage room in the basement of the house, the fourth, fifth, sixth wishes were food supplies, a refrigerator, a powered generator she immediately used to restore power to the house because she can't take anymore in the dark sometimes not always and her seventh wish, three beds for each room that is upstairs.
This manor is one story.
Her last wish, the eighth one, she saved that one for later. Alyssa would have wished for more wishes but the stone can't do that.
Alyssa sat himself down on the living sofa. Taking a breather to relax. She felt a little tired from doing a bit of manual labor but not really since she's part goddess, she doesn't feel tired at all.
'Let's see what's on the news for today.' She grabs the remote control beside her, turns on the television as an emergency news report to come in.
On the television screen she sees a tanned woman with medium length curly brown hair. She wears a gray suit jacket with a white undershirt.
"Hello this is Linn Jacobsen with today's breaking news."
This got the attention of the Hidden Child.
"Just four hours ago an armored truck carrying seven gunmen assaulted the Trolberg National Bank. Leaving six security officers injured but one was killed and an amount of two point five million dollars was stolen from the bank's safe. An eyewitness woman was caught during the chase of the criminals getting run over by the vehicle. The Trolberg Safety Patrol are still in pursuit of the criminals. We'll update you more in the coming."
Alyssa turned off the television. "Well, I knew this city wasn't perfect, it's no different from Ireland." She sent the remote down and stood up. "Time to do something about it."
Alyssa stood on top of the apartment building next to the abandoned manor. She pulled up her handkerchief to seal her mouth and nose before wearing the hood over her head.
Once she goes out there and do this thing, there's no turning back.
Sooner or later the whole city will start breathing down her neck after everything she has seen since arriving in Trolberg has made her make up her mind, she has chose this path and her choice was pretty much clear.
Her actions towards the guilty will be merciless and cold, showing people that there is a protector who is out here, watching them like a guardian angel.
The government will definitely label her as a Vigilante. The authorities will no doubt be sending everything they have to apperhand her day or night.
Alyssa wasn't worried about that, although she'll likely welcome those authorities for a challenge on capturing her.
Naturally, every human in Trolberg is going to start hating her guts, or loving her for playing hero.
There's no helping it. That's how society is.
She'll let society decide: should they need a protector or not? It's obviously yes and no. But on the plus side they want someone who is willing to look after them and their home despite the protest and refusal.
Rather they like it or not. They need her.
'I successfully managed to hack into the Safety Patrol comms and I got the last coordinates of the armored truck was last seen. They're not getting away. Though I should hurry before I lose these coordinates.' Alyssa drew out her grapnel gun and fired at the nearest rooftop before reeling herself.
The Chapter has ended...
