Liason What If's
I do not own GH or the characters. I borrow from the story and fan fic the rest.
I've had these ideas for years about what if Jason and Elizabeth made different choices. I'm reminded of the Night of Passion during the 2006 Blackout when Jason asked Elizabeth if she ever wondered, "What If?" Inspired by a YouTube video, "What If," music by Kate Winslet, video credit to Katlj67.
Liason "What If's" A series of events throughout Jason and Elizabeth's relationship. There were many push-pulls: one step forward and two steps back. There were always obstacles, but what if there wasn't?
Some of the stories are from my perceptions, old clips, and not all characters are written as canon. Language and violence are more prominent than my other stories.
Prologue:
Jason left Port Charles on January 17, 2000, presumably to keep his loved ones safe, including Elizabeth. Jason kissed her head and said goodbye. Elizabeth's reply was no, "See you later." Jason rode off on his bike, thinking of Elizabeth. Elizabeth cried silently, thinking about how hard it was to lose the only person who believed she could figure out her own life.
January 25, 2000, Elizabeth thinks about Jason and him riding away from Port Charles and away from her. Elizabeth sits at the window seat in her studio, looking out at the docks covered in snow. She met Jason months before Lucky died in the fire. Her mind flashes five months later to the night at Jake's, bike rides, and finding Jason shot in the snow early December last year. The rape changed her, and Lucky helped her survive, but that month in her studio made her stronger and think of someone other than Lucky. Elizabeth shuts the window and walks out of her studio, smiling wistfully.
August 31, 2000 (What if, when Jason returned and Lucky was different, Elizabeth made other choices than to stand by Lucky?)

Chapter 1
August 31, 2000 (What if, when Jason returned and Lucky was different, Elizabeth made other choices than to stand by Lucky?)
Elizabeth takes the steps from the docks and hears her name. She knows the voice. She smiles and turns. Jason says, "Hi!"
Elizabeth runs into Jason's arms and says, "Jason, you're back."
Jason smiles and holds Elizabeth in his arms. He doesn't want to let her go. He wants to tell Elizabeth how much he's missed her. They have a lot to catch up on. Elizabeth rambles and says, "A lot has happened since you left. Emily really needs you. Can I call her? Is it okay to let her know you are back?"
Jason nods yes, of course. He's concerned. Sonny didn't mention anything. Jason waits while Elizabeth places the call and thinks, "She is more beautiful and grown up." He misses the long, curly hair, but she looks good in short hair. She would look good in anything. He laughs, listening to Elizabeth ordering his sister to the Elm Street Pier, insisting she ditch Juan and not say a word to anyone where she is going. He can't believe Emily is still seeing that guy. Jason wants to know why his sister needs him, but Elizabeth says, "I'll let Emily tell you."
Elizabeth says, "Remember when we sat on this bench, and you said goodbye? I said no, see you later. What have you been up to?"
Jason replies, "I thought a lot about you since I left." He asks about her painting and her classes. She says her courses are okay, and she is still painting, but she still thinks the painting of "The Wind" is her best. Jason tells what he can of where he's been and says he only saw the Wind when he was with her. Elizabeth blushes.
Jason watches Elizabeth avoid some of his questions. Something is wrong, he thinks. He says, "Are you Okay?"
Elizabeth shrugs and replies, "It's challenging since Lucky came home."
Jason feels gut-punched. "What did you say? Lucky came home?"
Elizabeth explains that Fiason took Lucky and made it appear he died in the fire. Elizabeth looks sad as she rationalizes that Helena 'rescued' Lucky, but now that Lucky is back, he doesn't love her anymore. Jason doesn't understand how that could happen. He hadn't known Elizabeth like Lucky did, but there was no way he'd fall out of love with her. Jason wishes he could make her feel better but knows he can't and only listens. He remembers Lucky Spencer and was angry, thinking about who might be responsible for his death. Now that Elizabeth said Lucky was alive, all he could think was, the little fucker better not hurt her.
Before Jason can comment, Emily arrives to see the brother who left months earlier. Emily hugs him, and Jason wants to fix whatever has his sister trembling like she is. Emily looks at Elizabeth, who nods, indicating to Emily to tell Jason what is wrong. Just as Emily is about to spill to Jason what happened at the Rave, Lucky Spencer stops her. Jason watches Lucky act happy to see him. Jason thinks, "There is something off about Lucky."
After pretending to be happy to see Jason, Lucky cuts Emily off, saying they are going to Kelly's. He does not want her talking to her brother, especially about the Rave. Elizabeth is pissed; she says, "Lucky, this is the first time Emily's had to see Jason."
Lucky insists they go to Kelly's, but Jason offers to take Emily to Kelly's after visiting with her, and Elizabeth tries leading Lucky away. Jason even counters Lucky's snark that it's not as if Jason is going anywhere; he can catch up with his sister anytime and digs back, saying it's not like Kelly's is going anywhere. Just as Elizabeth is about to make headway into convincing Lucky that if he wants to go to Kelly's, he will go alone without them, Sonny Corothinos interrupts.
Emily and Elizabeth say goodbye, and Jason watches them leave as Lucky follows but glares at him. Jason says, "Sonny, what the fuck! What is wrong with Lucky? He doesn't want me talking to my sister." Sonny thinks it is more about Elizabeth and Carly saying things to Lucky about what happened last winter.
Elizabeth finishes a shift at Kelly's dealing with a jealous Carly. First, Carly taunts Elizabeth about her friendship with Sonny, and then she orders Elizabeth away from Jason. Elizabeth tells Carly to take it up with Jason if she doesn't like them being friends and reminds her that she is nobody's little angel and to bring it on! Anytime. Elizabeth thinks, "First, it was last night and Lucky warning her away from Jason, and tonight it's Carly warning her away from Jason." Elizabeth walks toward her studio when he hears the sound of a motorcycle. Crossing her fingers, she runs toward the sound. "Jason, I was hoping that was you! Carly and Lucky are driving me crazy."
Jason says, "Do you want to get away?"
Elizbeth replies, "I thought you'd never ask."
"Where to?"
"Nowhere!"
Eizabeth hops on behind Jason and wraps her arms around his stomach, and she barely hears Lucky calling out her name as Jason speeds away. They arrive at the bridge, and Elizabeth updates Jason on Lucky's latest demands. Not only does he warn her away from Jason, but he is pushing her toward Nikolas for some reason.
Jason presses Elizabeth about Emily as he hasn't been able to speak with his sister since last night. "Elizabeth, what happened? Why does Lucky want you with Nikolas, and why won't he let me talk with Emily? I don't care what happened. If I can fix it, I will. I don't care if Lucky or Nikolas thinks they can do it; I only care about you and my sister. Please let me help." Elizabeth promises if it gets out of hand, she will call him.
Jason lets Elizabeth steer his bike back to Kelly's, and Lucky lurks in the shadows. Elizabeth laughs, "That was so much fun. I love it when you let me steer." Lucky's eyes narrow as Jason Morgan, of all people, laughs too. Jason is teasing Elizabeth. He thinks, "Morgan doesn't smile, let alone laugh."
Lucky seethes. She doesn't laugh like that around him. He waits until Elizabeth kisses Jason on the cheek before going on the defensive and orders Jason to stay away from Elizabeth and that she belongs to him. Jason thinks, "Lucky was never this demanding before." Lucky used to encourage Elizabeth's independence and didn't force her to choose her friends. He got the same treatment from Carly. It took sheer willpower not to tell Lucky to go Fuck himself. Jason says, "Lucky, I don't know what your problem is, but Elizabeth is my friend, and unless she wants me to stay away, I will be here for her." Jason leaves, ignoring Lucky's insults.
Elizabeth says, "What is wrong with you? One moment, you are pushing me toward Nikolas, and just now, you tell Jason I belong to you. I don't belong to anyone other than myself. Something happened when you were with Faison or your supposed rescue by Helena. I don't trust that woman. I'm going to my studio alone. Don't follow me."
Once Elizabeth realized Lucky could not solve what happened at the Rave and the dead cop, she called Jason to help 'take care of' the problem. After Emily's rescue, Lucky was volatile. Emily and Elizabeth had to convince him to lie about Zander being there. Emily was going to ride from the Canadian border back to Port Charles with Jason, and Elizabeth wanted to be with her best friend. Lucky grabbed her arm, pulling Elizabeth to him. Elizabeth says, "Lucky, let go. I'm riding with Jason and Emily."
After dropping Emily at the Quartermaines, Jason drives Elizabeth to her studio. She invites him in and rubs her arm as they walk up the stairs to her door. Jason says, "Are you okay?"
Elizabeth replies, "I think so. Lucky grabbed my arm, and it still hurts. "
Jason says, "I'm sorry. If you want me to kick his ass, I will. Despite the way he treats you, it seems like you can't let go of the past. Why?"
Elizabeth shrugs, sighs, and replies, "Guilt. Jason, the man at the border today who returned and punched his father and thinks I should be with Nikolas, is not the boy I fell in love with. Helena did something to him, and I feel I owe him to find out what that is."
"Why? Why do you owe him?"
She replies, "Lucky saved my soul after my rape. He helped me heal, and it should be my turn to help him…" Elizabeth pauses, "But not at the cost of my sanity. I don't deserve the way he treats me. I hope he gets help; I'm not sure I can be the one to do it."
Jason says, "Do you still love him?"
Elizabeth shakes her head, "No. I didn't realize it until last week, but I think I stopped loving him late last year."
Jason's heart skips a beat, "Why?"
Elizabeth blushes, "I think you know why, or am I assuming too much?"
Jason clears his throat, "No, you aren't assuming too much. I told you we were more than friends and that there's no word what I feel for you. When you took care of me last winter, I felt something I haven't felt since Robin. I couldn't put it into words. Come here. Please?" Jason extends his hand.
Elizabeth takes his hand, "Jason…."
"Shush, no more talking." They embrace. Jason leads Elizabeth to the couch. He places his hands on her face, draws her to him, and kisses her deeply. Elizabeth sinks into Jason and feels a sensation she never felt with Lucky. Jason slowly unbuttons her shirt. Elizabeth places her hands on his and stops him. She says, "Wait. Lucky thinks we are together. I owe it to him to end things before starting anything with you. Can you wait?"
Jason sighs, "Of course. It's one of the things I love about you. But I'm staying with you. I don't trust Lucky. He's scary."
Elizabeth dresses for bed. She throws on a nightshirt, and Jason strips down to his boxers. He crawls next to her and envelops her in his arms. "I hope this is okay. I'll wait until you are ready."
Elizabeth leans back, "Tomorrow. After tomorrow."
Thirty minutes later, they are awakened by a constant knocking on the studio door. "Elizabeth, open up!" Yells Lucky.
Elizabeth groans, "I guess now is as good of a time to tell him." She yanks the door open, "Lucky, it's late; why are you here?"
Lucky sees Jason standing behind Elizabeth and shouts, "Slut! You are sleeping with Morgan? You are supposed to be saving yourself for my brother."
Jason has had enough of the little shit, "Lucky you have no clue what you are saying. You don't call Elizabeth names. She's done nothing but try to support you."
Lucky replies, "Stay out of this, Jason; this is between me and Elizabeth."
Elizabeth says, "No, Lucky. I have had enough of your crap. I am not interested in your brother. I stopped loving you months ago, and you aren't welcome in my studio anymore."
Lucky pushes Elizabeth, and Jason balls up his fist and punches Lucky. "Spencer, don't ever lay your hands on Elizabeth again." Lucky stands, rubs his jaw and scampers out of the room.
"Elizabeth, are you alright?" Jason holds her.
"Yes, are you? I have some ice for that hand."
Jason brushes her bangs away and kisses her. He checks the clock, chuckles, and says, "It's tomorrow."
Elizabeth smiles, "Yes, it is.
Chapter 2:
What If: 1/30/01. What if they made different choices when Jason hid in Elizabeth's studio?
