Will You Accept The Hurt?

"Goodbye."

"Not goodbye, we'll meet again, when I wake up! And you, me, Xion, we'll all be friends for real. Let's make another promise, okay?"

"See you again." They locked pinkies in their promise.

We've been on two wild adventures, you remember them, don't you?

In the first, we stopped darkness from engulfing our worlds.

In the second, we returned people's hearts to their rightful places.

Both were pretty dangerous, but I couldn't think of a better team to handle it besides me and my friends! As you know, I'm the one who wrote down our adventures in two separate journals…

But one of them is now blank! All that's left is this one line we don't know anything about: Thank Roxas. Well, who's Roxas? What makes him so special we had to erase the whole journal? That's something I have to solve.

-TinkerBell

The Queen glanced up from the letter to the fairy who'd given it to her and nodded. "Thank you for letting me know, TinkerBell. I had no idea your words were lost!"

The fairy gave a quick ring as she shoved the journal open to another page.

"Another strange message?" Minnie asked in surprise.

All it said was: Their hurting will be mended when you return to end it.

"And you didn't write this yourself?"

Tink shook her head furiously.

"Okay, okay! I was just making sure." The Queen smiled apologetically. She looked back at the page with confusion. "Their hurting will be mended. It sounds like someone's been hurt… inside the journal."

The fairy clanked in confusion.

"I know it seems impossible but if I learned anything from Ansem the Wise, it's that data is everywhere, including in the words you wrote. They're missing, but that doesn't mean there isn't any trace of them." Minnie explained.

Daisy and Clarabelle walked into the library to find the little chipmunk engineers, Chip and Dale scrambling around the desk. A small button with many cogs and gears attached sat in the center of it.

"… What do you think they're doing…?" Daisy whispered.

The cow shrugged. "Something smart, probably! I wouldn't know anything about that."

Daisy frowned slightly.

"Your Highness! Everything's ready!" Chip exclaimed, standing to attention in front of the Queen. His brother quickly joined him.

"Oh, wonderful. Thank you, dears." Minnie smiled warmly.

Dale hopped onto the button that turned the gears slightly until a giant computer appeared in a puff of smoke. There was a giant monitor with three smaller ones on its edges along with a large, complicated-looking keyboard. At the top sat a glass compartment holding Tink's tiny journal.

Chip jumped onto a lever, pushing it down with his weight. A beam suddenly hit Tink's journal and it appeared on the biggest screen. It was scanned before it flipped open. Many ones and zeroes appear as the data was analyzed and then put out into a viewable format. They were pictures of the various worlds Kairi and her friends had explored during their first journey.

Clarabelle and Daisy exchanged a look of surprise before running up to see more.

Suddenly, a red light started to flash along with a strange beeping sound. The screen was suddenly crowded with red and black boxes that seemed to sink into the worlds behind them.

"What's going on?!" The Queen gasped.

"Tink's journal's gone completely nuts!" Chip cried in worry.

"Nuts? Where?!" Dale asked excitedly.

"That's not what I mean!" His brother glared before looking back to the monitor. "Hmm… I don't know what's causing it, but it seems there's something wrong with the worlds inside the journal! Without them, we can't analyze the message!"

"We can't give up so easily, there must be something we can do!" The Queen insisted.

While the engineers tried different combinations on the keyboard, the Queen's friends slowly walked up.

"May we ask what's going on here?" Daisy asked softly.

The Queen startled, she'd nearly forgotten she'd called them here. "Oh! Yes, of course. A strange message appeared in Tinker Bell's journal, so we decided to look into it! That being said, we aren't able to do much out here…"

"Right." Clarabelle mumbled. She then thought of something. "Out here, but what if we were in there?"

"Huh?" Daisy asked.

"That could work! Not us going in, of course, far too dangerous." Chip explained. "But if we had someone who was already inside the journal, we could ask them to explore the worlds and repair the data!"

"Someone inside the journal…" Daisy thought aloud.

Minnie thought on it too before she suddenly gasped. "Oh! The answer's so obvious! Boys, I think we know just the person for the job!"

"We do? We do!" Dale cried happily before he and his brother got to work retrieving the necessary data.

Kairi in her 14 year old, data-generated body spawned into the datascape at the command of the computer where she floated down to a stained-glass platform that depicted a handsome young prince. She glanced around in curiosity.

Can you hear me? … Good.

Now then, can you step forward for me?

Kairi looked around for the voice but didn't see who it belonged to.

She hesitantly took a step forward, a few 1s and 0s floated up and then vanished at the movement.

Suddenly, three stones pillars rose out of the ground, each having a weapon on it: one was a shield, the other a sword, and the last a staff.

Power sleeps within-

The voice suddenly stuttered and strained slightly before the pillars glitched out of existence.

"What…?" Kairi whispered, she had the feeling this wasn't supposed to happen.

Your path has already been decided.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Daisy asked.

"Oh, it's simple! Since we rigged the system to give this Kairi the keyblade early, she doesn't need to decide which form to take. See, her keyblade setup and form was already coded thanks to Tink's description of the real keyblade!"

"Real keyblade?" Clarabelle repeated in confusion. "Then does that mean…?"

Minnie nodded. "Everything in this datascape is based solely on Tink's records, meaning everything and everyone is programmed to be exactly like their real counterparts. So this Kairi may just be data, but she'll still behave and fight like the real one!"

"That's a relief, saves us the trouble of introducing ourselves." Daisy smiled.

"Not quite." Chip piped up. "Since the journal was erased, it's like your journey was reset! Every world and person is back in the same place as it was before your first adventure. Data Kairi doesn't know anything about the worlds, keyblade, or any of you guys!"

"Aw, that's too bad." Clarabelle sighed sadly.

"Hey, no matter what form she's in, any version of Kairi's still Kairi!" Minnie reminded her.

"Right."

They suddenly heard a shrill ringing and looked to see Tinker Bell pointing at the monitor.

"Tink, what… who is that?" Daisy asked in surprise.

A figure wearing a black coat had suddenly appeared in front of Kairi.

Kairi looked tentatively at the figure before asking: "Who are you?"

They didn't respond, turning away and walking up the materializing stairs.

"Wait!" Kairi called, running after them.

By the time she got up to the second platform, the person was gone. In their place was three shadowy creatures.

She gasped in surprise, backing up slightly.

"Look out!" A sudden voice called. "Those are the Heartless! They may look threatening but you can take them out!"

"Me?!" Kairi asked in shock, looking around. "But I don't even-!"

As if responding to her plight, a strange sword shaped like an elegant key appeared in her hand.

"Use that to protect yourself." The voice explained. "You're going to have to fight in order to survive… I know you can do it! Keep your light burning strong!"

The girl threw herself into the fray, slicing through the Heartless as if she'd done it a million times.

The moment they were gone, a door appeared in front of the girl.

"To open it, all you have to do is hold out the keyblade."

"The keyblade… right." Kairi mumbled to herself to remember. She held up the keyblade and a beam of light shot from it.

The door slowly opened, revealing a blinding light.

The Data Kairi took a breath before walking in, knowing her new journey started here.
