Trigon's Horseman
Chapter 1
Rose watched as the group of pubescent adolescents that guarded the Los Angeles coast flew by in their hovercar, of all things. She could feel the magic of Pride, her eldest sister, traveling past. A smirk formed on her face as the pale-skinned girl turned and looked in her direction.
She pressed a finger to her lips and winked at her sister when they locked eyes, emerald on amethyst before her eldest sister flew too far away and their gaze broke.
Closing her sketchbook, she stood and set a rather generous tip on the table before she turned and walked into the wall, her shadow extending and darkening to allow her entry. A similar shadow would, as she knew from experience, open into her home.
Despite only being twelve, soon to be thirteen, Rose had a place to herself, bequeathed to her upon her godfathers passing almost seven years prior. She had several other properties from her adoptive fathers side, but they had been destroyed during the war before she had been born.
Rose herself was… complicated. Half demon, one fourth demigod and one fourth homo magi. She was born to be her fathers herald, to wipe cities clean and offer the collected souls to her father as proof of her loyalty.
Finding out her mother was a dark witch was a bit of a shock, only thanks to her diary and countless books of notes telling her of that fact. More than half the deaths of the Death Eaters - she snickered at that when she first found out her other birth name - could be attributed to her mother before she had spent a night with her fathers vessel and fell pregnant with her. Though she was relieved to learn that many of the urges she felt around groups of people wasn't something she was alone with. It seemed, however, her mother had a much tighter control over her urges.
Her mother hadn't found out about her own heritage as the daughter of Zeus until almost two months before her death, using a ritual she had been given by Sirius Black that was supposed to reveal her heritage, giving her detailed knowledge of her magical ancestors. Like a more advanced version of the blood testing, though it was restricted to five generations back.
She had used the same ritual, curious about her father. As it turned out, Trigon was aware when she used the ritual and had used it to try to bend her to his well. She spent decades in the mental plane, somewhere between being taught and tortured before she had succumbed and fell to his will and would have, at a moment's notice, killed anyone and anything, including herself.
And then, less than a real-life month after she had been under Trigon's rule, he had been felled by her eldest sister and her associates. It had taken her months to get over his death, and months longer before she convinced herself that she truly hadn't cared in the first place. By that time, she had missed more than half the year at Hogwarts.
While disappointed, her magical knowledge was extensive and she had access to a gigantic library that hosted a good portion of spells and rituals her father hadn't known about. She spent roughly half a year absorbing all the knowledge she could from the house before she decided to remove the remnants of Trigon from the world.
She started with her younger siblings, the other Horsemen. Pestilence was the first. He was born premature and terminally ill, a result of his heritage emerging. Regardless, she had to get rid of him.
She didn't kill him, she wasn't a monster, but she stole his power. She actually ended up curing him, allowing his mother to take him home for the first time.
Conquest was the next one. The little asshole was born in some African country she couldn't pronounce the name of and was thought to be the eldest son of the most prominent warlord in the area. While she didn't kill him, she did leave him to the jackals. Figuratively, though leaving him with those people could've been worse for him than literal animals.
War was the last Horseman, other than herself, that she went after. He was worse than Conquest, being a pissy little bastard that was shunted from foster home to foster home. He had even killed two other kids. Since she wasn't sure if he could be redeemed, she permanently crippled him after taking his power. It was better than he deserved, but she wouldn't kill. Mostly as a big 'fuck you' to her father and as antithesis to her role as Death.
Following her taking care of the Horsemen, she moved on to the Sins. Unlike herself and Pride, the Sins hadn't yet awoken their power. Pride was trained from a young age in another dimension and her powers activated prematurely, but slowly over the course of several years, allowing her to adapt to her awakening powers. As a witch - she preferred sorceress as it seemed less derogatory, but she was labeled a witch - Rose's powers were active at birth but her mother and adoptive father had worked quite hard to seal away the majority of her demonic heritage, which had been unsealed when she used the ritual and come into contact with Trigon.
While not having their powers yet, the Sins already started to gain physical traits fitting their roles. It was partly why Pride was gorgeous.
But she was debating whether or not to go after Pride to steal her powers as well. The power was… well, it was additive and she wanted more. Pride, however, was a good person that seemed to struggle with her darker half. She didn't want to be burdened with her nature and actively fought against it.
