8th April 1920

"Mummy?" Tilly said as she shook Rose gently in the morning. Rose yawned and opened her eyes "morning baby" she smiled gently and stroked Tilly's cheek "Sophia is crying" Matilda replied "oh, thank you darling" Rose yawned and sat up, lifting Sophia out of her crib and soothing her. "Can I hold her please?" Tilly asked "of course you can" Rose smiled and nodded. "Here, sit against the bed frame" Tilly did as she was told and Rose helped her hold Sophia.

Once the 3 of them were ready, they headed down to breakfast before going out to the shops so Rose could buy the 3 of them some more clothes then returning to the hotel to meet Lucy.

"So, how are you finding Chippewa Falls so far?" Lucy smiled "Lovely, it's new so a little intimidating, but much nicer than Boston for sure" Rose smiled as she took a sip of her coffee "I see… have you met anyone else yet?" "No, just yourself and your Mother… oh, and the two women who served us in the clothes shop and diner yesterday" "you know, there's a party tomorrow evening, almost everyone in the town goes, you and the girls should come, it'll be nice to meet everyone…" Lucy said "a party?" Rose frowned "yeah… not a huge bash or anything" Lucy chuckled "it's just a small thing, dancing… kids games… food…" she continued "oh, I don't know, Sophia is still tiny, she'll only be a week old tomorrow" Rose said, unsure "I'm sure she'd be OK… why don't you come just for an hour? Almost everyone will be there, and there's a few kids in town around Tilly's age, it would be nice for her to meet them, maybe make some friends?" Lucy tried to persuade her. Feeling as though she couldn't say no, Rose nodded "OK… but only for an hour" "brilliant!" Lucy grinned.

Tilly followed Rose and Lucy round the shops as Rose tried to find her and Tilly something to wear for the party "mummy? You promised we could go to the park today" she pouted "I know darling, as soon as I've found us a dress each, I will take you" she sighed, feeling guilty that she still hadn't fulfilled her promise yet.

After saying goodbye to Lucy and dropping her shopping off at the inn, Rose took Tilly to the park as promised.

Rose felt like the world worse Mum as she looked between her two daughters whilst pushing Tilly on the swings. She knew that Sophia shouldn't really be out the house yet. At 6 days old she was prone to catching anything and everything, but knew she couldn't let Tilly down… again. She had promised the poor girl they could go to the park in Philadelphia almost a week ago, but instead she moved her over a thousand miles away from everything she had ever known. It had taken her almost a week to take her to the park because of stuff they had to do in order to settle in to their new life and get in to a smooth routine to make the move as easy as possible for the girls.

Jack had just finished work when he was walking home. He sighed to himself as he saw the back of a woman stood pushing a young girl on the swings. Every time he saw a woman with red hair, he would immediately think of Rose, bringing his mood down each time.

He didn't see either girls faces so just continued to walk back home.
