The following days were pretty busy for both of them.

Things at the district were crazy with Jay and Hailey about to leave for their honeymoon and although Voight found pretty decent replacements for them, they were still trying to get into the hang of everything, so things were a bit slower, not to mention that his partnership with Kevin was now non existent until further notice.

It was going to be a long and stressful couple of days, but their holiday together was going to be completely worth it.

Kim was also pretty busy. She had worked very hard on her speech and was now almost done with it, so with that in mind she offered to help Anne with Gracie's party. Little did she know that Cathleen had other plans for her.

For some reason her boss had called her almost every day, to chat, to ask her things and to see if she was interested in taking a variety of courses and she mostly agreed to all of them having nothing else to do during the day, except texting Sylvie, her family and Adam.

They tried their best to see each other every day, but sometimes it wasn't possible. Today, though, today they had plans.

Kim was getting together with her friends from work, Adam was picking her up and then they were going back to her place for a nice night together.

She was finishing getting ready to go when she stopped to grab her phone and check on him. They had barely talked during the day so she wanted to make sure everything was alright.

"Hey you. I was just about to call you." He said as soon as he answered the call.

"See? Our connection is undeniable." She joked. "I just wanted to know how you were doing. Got kind of worried after getting no texts from you." She paused for a second trying to explain herself. "Because I knew you were raiding this garage place thing that you told me, not because I'm being a toxic girlfriend."

"A toxic girlfriend is something that you will never be, Belle." He laughed softly. "I'm sorry I didn't write earlier, my battery died and I forgot the charger at home."

"It's alright. How did it go? You sound tired."

"It went well, I guess. I'm a little tired."

"Babe, you know you don't have to go get me tonight."

"The one thing I'm looking forward to tonight is seeing you. Please don't take that away from me."

"Fine, I won't." Although she felt bad for him being so tired, she though his choice of words had been adorable. "Tough day?"

"I don't know if it was tough. It was too slow, we could have had so much more done if Halstead and Upton were here."

"Trouble with the new guys?"

"No, I don't know. Maybe I'm being mean. They'll get the hang of it. The guy, he's fresh out of the academy, but he's good. He's got instinct, gut, you know? But the girl…"

"Oh come on. Don't be the sexist cop nobody likes."

"No, Belle, it has nothing to do with that. She's not a bad cop, she's just a pain in the ass."

"Really?"

"Yeah, she's a showoff. Not even Kevin can stand her."

"Well, give her some time. It's probably not easy to step into intelligence being a woman and all and on top of everything covering for Hailey. Those are tough shoes to fill."

"Darlin', believe me. If you knew her you would most definitely agree with me."

"In that case, it's only for some days. Hang in there, detective!"

"Well, apparently we were given a budget for another officer. I hope it is Dante and not her."

"I'm sure your boss will make the right choice."

"Yeah, you're right. Anyway, are you ready?"

"Almost."

"What are you wearing?"

"Babe, really? You're gonna see me in a few hours."

"That's true, but you still owe me."

"Owe you what exactly?"

"The bet." Kim started to laugh on the other side of the line.

"Really? I think I won that fair and square. She was mad. I won. And you delivered that wonderful breakfast the following morning."

"Yes, but after I told her my magnificent plan about the tree house she forgave us. So technically, I won as well and I never got my morning sex."

"How about tonight you get anyplace you want sex and tomorrow you get breakfast sex before going to the district?"

"Anywhere I want sex?" His tone was the one of an excited kid on Christmas morning.

"Mm hmm."

"I like the sound of that. It definitely won't be bedroom sex." He said mischievously while she bit her lower lip feeling her body tingle just thinking about him. "Wait."

"What is it, detective?"

"Quick question."

"Yes."

"I still like bedroom sex, so is this like a one time only wild card? Or can we do both?"

"You're impossible Adam." She said laughing.

"You're gonna leave me like that? Say something you coward." He joked.

"We can figure it out together. Does that sound fair?"

"I guess I can work with that. Belle, I'm gonna take a shower ok? Don't forget to call me when you're ready to be picked up."

"I will." She took a small breath and found herself smiling. "Babe?"

"What?"

"I love you."

"I love you too, Belle."

"See you in a little while."

"See you."

"Oh, and don't miss me during that shower."

"You really like torturing me don't you?"

"Just a little. Big kiss."

"Can't wait for you to actually give it to me. Have fun."

"Thanks."

Kim took one last look at the mirror before going downstairs to meet her friend. She knew she looked ok for a quiet night out with her colleagues, but she wanted to make sure she looked special enough for her little after party.

She chose an ankle length summer skirt with a slit that went up the middle of her thigh, the one that didn't have a scar, since she was still pretty self conscious about it, a pair of sandals and a white top. She also took a light denim jacket in case it got chilly.

Her hair was up in a messy bun. She found it super comfortable and Adam thought it was sexy when she had her hair up. The mascara in her lashes and her outlined eyes made the glittering in them even more intense. She finished off the look with some lipgloss and went to gather her stuff.

"Was that the dress code? Why didn't I get the memo?" Sylvie said as soon as her friend got in the car. "You do know we're only going for a beer right?"

"Hey my dear friend. It's amazing to see you too." She teased before reaching in to hug Syl.

"It's always nice to see you Kimmie. I'm just saying you look very nice."

"You look lovely too, Syl. You always do."

"So really, what plans do you have for tonight?"

"Nothing. Adam is picking me up."

"Oh, I see." She wiggled her brows.

"Shut up. You two are so alike sometimes."

"That's because we're the best."

"I guess you can say that."

"Oh, come on! You know it's true."

"You two are pretty spectacular!"

"And that's why we found each other." Sylvie said happily. "We're a bunch of spectacular people." She shrugged her shoulders and started her car.

The night was fun. Almost everyone from school was there to celebrate another successful school year. Celeste was there, and she was quick to join Kim and Sylvie.

They all gossiped and shared anecdotes as well as sharing their hopes for the following year. What grades they wished to teach or what they didn't want to get.

"I'm fine as long as we're still together." Sylvie said looking at her friend.

"We make a pretty good team." She joked. "I don't know, I like first grade."

"Well, you sure aren't getting second." Ian said as he downed a sip of his beer and got a weird look from some of the people there. "What? I don't mean it as anything negative. I was trying to say that we're not supposed to have our family members in our classes."

"We know exactly what you meant, Ian." Kim said bitterly. "I still don't know where Cathleen is planning on placing me, so you can relax."

"I'm not worried about it." He said with an arrogant manner.

"Knock it off, Ian." Celeste commented as she rolled her eyes. She was aware of the whole situation, since Kev had talked to her about it, trying to get to know more about Ian and of course to protect his girl as well. Y giving her the heads up.

Kim placed her hand on Celeste's knee, letting her know that everything was alright and that she didn't want the night to be anything else than a celebration with friends from work.

So they put the comments behind them and just went on with the night and concentrated on having a good time.

It was getting late, Ian hadn't said a word about her or her relationship with Adam since, but he didn't stop staring at her.

She pulled her phone out of her bag and texted her boyfriend.

Hey, detective! You can come whenever you want.

I'll send you the pin.

Great. I'll call you as soon as I get in the car.

His reply came quicker than expected.

Ok. Love you.

Me too, darling.

Kim put her phone away and talked to everyone. "Guys it was amazing to see you and hopefully we'll be working together again in a few months, but right now I have to call it a night. I'm exhausted." She laughed. "See, I'm becoming an old lady, I really need to get back to work." They all laughed at her funny comment. "See you tomorrow at the ceremony." She stood up and hugged her close friends and waved a general goodbye to the rest.

She stepped out the bar, the fresh air on her face making her close her eyes in enjoyment. Her phone buzzed in her hand and she didn't hesitate to pick it up.

"Hey, babe." She said sweetly.

"Belle, I'm on my way. ETA 5 minutes from now." He said pretending he was on duty.

"It kind of turns me on when you police talk like that."

"Roger that." He said in a hoarse voice. "Does that work?"

"Hell yeah, detective."

He laughed. "I'll be there in five darlin."

"Great. I'm already waiting for you."

She ended the call and didn't even bother to put the phone away. She would do it once in the car.

"So, you got your bodyguard to pick you up?"

Her eyes automatically rolled when she heard his voice.

"What do you want Ian?"

"Nothing."

"Then why are you here?"

"I don't know. I wanted to talk to you."

"Ok, I'm listening."

He got closer to her and she quickly took a step back.

"Hey, relax. I'm not going to do anything to you. Anything you don't want me to anyway."

"Ian, what else do I need to do to let you know that I'm not interested in you like that. That I'm in a relationship."

"A relationship with a guy who is not afraid to beat the hell out of someone."

Kim just looked at him. "What? He didn't tell you he was the one who beat me?"

"He didn't have to. I figured it out myself. Besides, it would be wrong to be with a guy like him but it would be perfectly fine to be with someone like you."

Ian just nodded and waited for Kim to finish talking. "A person who cheats and lies and takes advantage of every situation."

"At least you know exactly what to expect from me. Ruzek on the other hand…"

"Shut up, Ian."

"Oh, you don't want to hear it, do you? You know what I think is true. The next hot girl that crosses his path is going to call his attention. Come on, look at him, he's no family guy. All he wants is attention, sex, fun. He will get tired of you eventually and don't come running to me when he does."

The brunette was pissed, all she wanted was for Adam to get there and leave.

A strong breeze hit them, blowing Kim's long skirt, the slit revealing her legs and Ian's eyes were quick to dart in that direction.

Laughter, all she could hear was laughter. "Believe me Ms. Burgess. As soon as he sets eyes on someone else, someone with, I don't know, not damaged body parts, he will be long gone. I mean, so you really think he likes that?" He pointed to her leg. "At this point I'm lucky you and I didn't work out."

She was frozen, had no idea what to say or do. Kim felt vulnerable, ashamed and embarrassed and even though she had no doubts about her relationship with Adam, Ian's words served as a small virus that was infecting fear in her body, mind and soul.

The honking coming from Ruzek's car startled her. He saw her posture, the empty look on her face and realized that something was off. He got out of the car, slamming the door shut and walked quickly towards her.

"Is everything alright?" He asked wrapping an arm around Kim's shoulders and looking at Ian defiantly.

"Yeah, man. We were just chatting. I'm sorry to have bothered you." The gym teacher lifted his hand as a way of saying goodbye and turned to go back into the bar.

"Hey, are you sure everything is fine?" He asked softly.

"Mmm hm."

"Ok." He pulled her into a hug and kissed the top of her head. "Let's go home."
