I don't own Game of Thrones.

Chapter 1

A woman's voiceover. {The Targaryen had once ruled the seven kingdoms thanks to their ancestor Aegon I Targaryen known as Aegon the Conqueror and his two sister-wives, Queen Visenya and Queen Rhaenys. For thousands of years, they had practiced their inbreeding of marrying within their siblings to keep their bloodline pure. But we had kings who had the greatness to lead us, but we had madness that runs in kings as well. We would always hold our breath if this was a good one or a mad one.

King Aerys was the mad king and his son, Rhaegar was our final hope to have a good king, but he failed us too.

Robert's Rebellion, also referred to as the War of the Usurper by Targaryen loyalists, was a major civil war in the history of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. It saw the ruling Targaryen dynasty displaced from power after 280 years by the Baratheon dynasty.

I recall that I rebelled against my father, but doing something he never thought I would do.

I agree to marry a new king. After many days of our secret courtship and will enter the court.

King Robert I of House Baratheon had married the kinder of the two Lannister girls of Tywin Lannister.

And that is the start of my path to cleave my way to a better future.}

Standing on the balcony of a queen's chamber is where the sunny blonde curly hair, grass green eyes, and barely passed twenty winter age. She is wearing a royal purple dress with pearls all around her dress and necklace.

Contessa Lannister stood there on the balcony of the tower.

The war had taken everything.

'Poor Princess Elia. Poor Prince Aegon.' She had mourned for her dear friend and the young prince. They both were killed by the monster sent by her father.

However, one was spare since Lady Lannister had kept one by her side.

Hearing giggles made the lioness turn away from the view. Contessa looked at the young Dornish princess playing on the ground.

Only Princess Rhaenys was spared from such a cruel fate. It is hard to look at the child before as she is being reminded of Elia Martell and the brutal death that her father caused.

Contessa looked back at the young princess playing with her cat. Turns out the little girl followed Contessa when she went to check all the escape routes for her mother, but she couldn't return after hearing the screams and sword fighting from the palace.

She took the young princess and fled to the brothel where she made friends with Chataya there. They remained sanctuary from the conflicts of men and swords.

Contessa is determined to protect Rhaenys.

Once she is married to the new king, she will make sure that Rhaenys is safe. The princess will be living out the rest of her days holding her children and grandchildren. Letting the blood of Dornish and a dragon end in the husband's line.

Flashback…

"You are the one who made the Faith and common people wish for me to be crowned?" A voice made Contessa look back at the young handsome lord, black hair, blue eyes, and tall.

"Was it wrong of me? The people who witnessed and provided me with enough help to bring salvation to them. For the life out of me, I care for the people here in Kingslandings." Contessa answered as she was picking up some flowers to make a scented oil bath out of them. The lighting of the sun made her in a glorious light as a pious woman.

Robert was amazed.

This Lannister girl was different than what he sees in her family.

But he needs to know.

"Aren't you the mistress of the mad king?"

He noticed her shoulders stiffening and saw her grip on the throning rose that was making her bleed.

"Only by name, but he never laid a hand on me." Contessa looked at him sadly. "I silently accepted it because I knew he would hurt the prisoners he captured. Even the people who were mistreated by the Gold cloaks. I had to kneel and beg him to spare them. In his madness, he accepted my pleas."

She already knows what her reputation is.

Soiled meat.

Whore.

Mistress.

But she wonders if they would do it if they were in her place.

Perhaps.

Or Perhaps not.

She did not doubt that many of them wouldn't even care to lift their finger to help the common people.

Robert looked at the Lannister girl and said, "Perhaps, I require sort of companion. More like need someone to calm down the dragon sympathizers."

Contessa looked back at Robert and said, "A former mistress of the mad king married his usurpers. (Giggles) What kind of scandalous couple we would make."

Robert thought then a beaming smile at the faces of the court.

"Then I propose that we wed."

Contessa was shocked and startled. "My lord, there those who would be against the match. I know that I am too lowborn to be your mistress, but too noble to be your queen."

"I will send them to seven hells for daring to challenge my word! I am fulfilling what the kingdom wanted. Wed a woman of good wealth and breed. But also, you are queen's people, they are all shouting for your grace."

Robert proclaimed as he kneeled and presented his deceased mother's ring. A bejewel color blue and two small pearls on the left and right with silver metal for her finger. A Baratheon ring fitting with the future lady of Storm's End.

"I accept your grace."

"Good we wed tonight."

"Now your grace?"

"Yes. Plus, I know that we can make our debut right away."

The very night with permission she invited Chataya and her daughter Alayaya. Plus, Ser Elbert Arryn is on her side with young princess Rhaenys, whom Robert adored. Thou it does seem odd that she is his enemy's daughter.

Both little girls scatter flowers away. It seemed that they liked their job for it.

Septon of the Baelor volunteers to marry the two of them which is such an honor to marry a king to their beloved patroness.

They only had one choir boy who sang the wedding for them that night.

With the Septon blessings and performing with the tied sash together in hand.

They recited their vows.

"Father, Smith, Warrior, Mother, Maiden, Crone, Stranger. I am yours; you are mine from this day until the end. With this kiss, I pledge my love."

They had spent their peaceful days in the housed cabin where they enjoyed their married life.

Flashback ended.

Knocked on the door was heard from her private chambers. Princess Rhaenys was startled and quickly ran behind the lioness.

The little princess peeked behind the leg as the maid named Amelia was given to her by Robert.

"Don't my princess. We are having a feast tonight." Rhaenys peaked at the word feast. Contessa smiled at the princess. "Would you like me to bring something after dinner?"

The child shakes her head up and down.

"Alright, As you know Amelia has assigned two maids to watch over you. And guess what, Chataya and Alayaya will be here." Contessa told the princess who would be there. However, she can't trust any maids. After all, Rhaenys is still a royal princess and daughter of the Targaryen family. That is why she invited Chataya and Alayaya to watch Rhaenys.

Ever since the siege, she has been cautious and kept her guard up for any attacks.

Contessa wears a simple gown, but she shows a status as queen. (Note: She is dressing like Elizabeth Woodville's coronation golden dress.)

"Let us go, Amelia." She raised her arm and had the maid Amelia escort her.

"Yes," Amelia then softly added, "your majesty."

Your Majesty.

Contessa will learn how to get used to it.

After all, Robert Baratheon won the throne by conquest and honor. Contessa will be his queen to not only unite the kingdom but also, her main goal is protecting the Targaryen family.

In the main halls for the dinner table.

Robert Baratheon is sober and drinks at a minimum so that he can give his announcement. Robert has to endure for days pretending that he thought about courting Cersei Lannister. In his mind, that woman is too vain, and her smile is so fake.

And don't get him started on how she would talk and talk about useless things. Like how she was destined to be his wife and queen. Her hobbies, friends, or can she even call them that?

But not one uttered concern or word about whether her older sister Contessa was well or even here.

'I know I am a shit brother, but at least I try my effort.' Robert knows that he tried to fit his father's boots for his brothers, but it doesn't mean he wished them hurt or dead.

Maybe it was a good idea that he married Contessa already so that they could get their planning done.

Robert stood up and announced, "As you already know we rebel against the mad and crush their army. We won the crown by conquest!" The applause sounded out. "I took the responsibility and the crown to take over as King. And as the king, I have to wed a maiden from a good family and virtuous until I bed her." He laughed as others laughed, no doubt trying to curry favor of the new king.

Contessa came forward as Robert looked at her. She looked beautiful as if she was the maiden reborn.

"This Contessa Lannister," Robert smiled as he held her hand. "my wife."

This was the beginning of their secret marriage which caused the seven kingdoms. Their relationship spanned a turbulent period, Robert had to face rebellions, traitors, and the Targaryen sympathizers. This meant that there were periods when the couple were separated, unsure whether or not they would see each other again. But their seeing each other alive during their absences and separation helps grow their love for each other. Even when times were right, they were reunited when Queen Contessa sought sanctuary at Baelor's temple during rebels and war that played a part in history.

Next Chapter, discord among the Lannisters, dealing with Princess Rhaenys' case, and coronation as queen.
