How to Survive the Triwizard Tournament

Dobby returned at that point and once he was brought up to speed on the discussions, Harry asked, "Ironstream, why are we sitting here? What's the purpose of these talks and decisions?"

"My goal is to give you the best possible chance of surviving the Triwizard Tournament, Mr Potter. You do not have any living family and if you are killed in the tournament without a valid last will and testament, the ministry can seize – will gleefully seize – all your wealth, properties, and rents. "

"Who do I leave everything to? I don't have any family left."

"You can sire a child. There is time before next June."

"Do what?" asked Harry, blushing and blinking furiously. "I'm just a kid! I can't be a dad yet!"

"But the tournament is rigged to ensure that at least two of the contestants die," Ironstream announced.

"What!" exclaimed Harry who thought for a moment. Then he asked, "Why?"

The goblin grinned, this time revealing his fangs and explained, "The ministry wants bleeding headlines! Injured or dead champions will generate interest in the tournament to increase ticket sales, paid newspaper interviews, and sale of souvenirs."

"Your inclusion has boosted interest by almost 150% in Britain and the ministry has added a thousand seats for the stadium where you'll face dragons on 24 November."

"DRAGONS! F'ing Dragons!" screamed Harry.

Dobby popped out and back with a calming potion that he fed to his wizard while lecturing the goblin about not scaring his wizard to death. The elf threatened the goblin saying, "Wizards love the headlines that Boys-Whose-Liveds dying in goblin office!"

Ironstream was watching his vault holder and asked, "Mr Potter, didn't McGonagall tell you about the three tasks that first night?"

"No, that mangy cat is worthless as a head of house. We were told that each task was to be a surprise!"

The elf and goblin shook their heads. Ironstream explained, "Wizards never play by the rules!"

"Wizards cheat every game!" Dobby insisted. "Cards, chess, Quidditch, and Triwizards Tournamentals."

"There are three tasks in the tournament," Ironstream said. "I've been told that Professor Sprout informed the Diggory boy about the three tasks that night – the first task will be to retrieve a golden egg from the nest of a mother dragon. The second task will be to release someone important to you from the bottom of Black Lake in the middle of February. And the last task will be a race through a maze filled with Class XXXX and XXXXX magical creatures."

It was only because Harry's system was full of a calming draught that he didn't pass out.

Gringotts Does What It Can

"Ironstream, how do I hide my estate from the wizards? If this tournament kills me, I don't want them to get their hands on it."

"You can leave everything to the Crown. Her Majesty, the Queen herself will inherit everything and she'll ask lots of questions that'll make the wizards roll up into boulders and try to hide."

"Okay, let's do that."

After the parchments were prepared and then signed by Harry Potter and his vault manager and witnessed by two random witches in the lobby of the bank, Ironstream ordered a second pot of tea for his vault manager. He schooled his features to appear calm and said, "Let's review what Gringotts can do to help you survive the three tasks, Mr Potter."

"Alright," the young wizard replied, still affected by the calming potion.

"There are two blocks on your magical core that we can remove and increase your power by a factor of four."

"There is dark magic of some sort embedded in that curse scar that your magical core fights against. Once it is removed, your magic will be much more accessible, you may not need the spectacles, and your personality may undergo a transformation."

Closing his eyes and leaning back in his chair, Potter groaned, "More reasons for Dumbledore to watch me."

"Not if we hide the changes," Ironstream said. "And finally, we'll either get you a new wand or adjust your current wand."

"Why my wand?"

"Your magic is going to pour off you and be stronger – the current wand might burn out with a simple luminous spell that sets the curtains around your bed on fire."

Nodding in agreement, Harry listened as Ironstream continued, "Then you can take the ring that makes you Lord Potter. The family magics will have much to teach you and the ring will protect your mind with powerful Occlumency barriers. The ring will neutralize any potions someone attempts to slip to you surreptitiously."

The goblin paused for a moment and added, "And it will check any potion prescribed by a healer or the infirmary matron before allowing you to consume it."
