The Triwizard Tournament brings loneliness and isolation for an angry and disillusioned Harry Potter. When the financially astute goblins use a loophole to help a Vault-holder Harry Potter, the Boy-Who-Lived begins to break free of Magical Britain.
~~~***~~~ CHANGE SCENE
A Bad EveningLeading his vault holder deeper into Gringotts, Ironstream was aware that Albus Dumbledore was in the lobby of the bank. He ignored the elderly wizard – the head teller, the regular tellers and the guards (visible and invisible) could handle the wizard's protests. If goblin blood was spilt, the clans would celebrate so long as equal amounts of wizarding blood decorated the walls of the lobby.
Albus Dumbledore was not having a good evening. During dinner, Minerva had hurried into the Great Hall and approached Albus with a particularly pinched expression on her face. The headmaster was leery of a contentious interview in front of everyone and he was tempted to cast a compulsion on the witch to make her forgetful.
But she had her wand in one hand and a parchment in the other. She thrust the parchment into the headmaster's hands and asked, "What is this, Dumbledore? What have you allowed to happen?"
"I have no idea…" the elderly wizard began to explain.
"Then read the declaration of emancipation for Mr Harry James Potter! You forced him into the tournament and now magic has freed him from all control! He can live where he wants! He can change schools!"
As the entire Great Hall yammered about the news, Albus examined the parchment, but all spells cast by Dumbledore's special wand indicated the parchment was authentic – there were Ministry for Magic seals, Goblin stamps and certifications on Mother Magic's declaration.
Filius Flitwick mentioned, "That's final. The goblins will go to war to protect Mr Potter and his vaults from any interference after today."
Pomona scowled, "That boy just wants attention!"
"Where is Mr Potter?" asked Dumbledore.
Minerva handed over a second parchment – a note from the boy himself that read, 'As an adult, I have left Hogwarts for the weekend. I'll return before 7PM on Sunday. – Harry Potter'
"Where is Mr Potter!" demanded Dumbledore.
From the Hufflepuff table, a voice shouted, "The DMLE arrested him in the Three Broomsticks!"
Dumbledore left the table and used the floo to reach the Ministry Atrium and hurry to the DMLE offices. There were many minutes of loud discussion before Director Amelia Bones emerged from her office and explained that she had met 'Heir Potter' earlier in the day at Three Broomsticks, but he'd not accompanied her back to the DMLE offices.
"Where did he go then?"
"The goblin…what was his name?" asked Auror Shacklebolt.
"You left him with a goblin?" demanded Dumbledore before he turned and hurried back to the Atrium to apparate to Diagon Alley and confront the goblins in Gringotts.
Director Bones was furious. She hissed, "Shacklebolt! My office now!"
The Auror realized the boss lady was unhappy and hurried to wait Amelia's office. She told Proudfoot, "Call out three covens and apparate to Diagon Alley. You are to make certain that any fighting in Gringotts does not move out into the alley. A goblin fighting a wizard inside Gringotts is NOT our problem!"
In short order, twenty-nine Aurors were on duty in Diagon Alley to keep the peace on the wizarding side of the steps.
The shouting from Amelia's office was heard by everyone still in the office. She asked, "When did Albus Bloody Dumbledore become part of your chain of command? When did you get promoted and designated to make command decisions?"
"I…"
"You are removed from my protection detail. You are demoted two ranks and assigned to duty in Azkaban for the next…" she paused considering how to ensure the wizard remembered this lesson. Then she continued, "Azkaban for the next six months! Report to the warden for duty in fifteen minutes!"
Shacklebolt stood stunned for a moment until Director Bones shouted, "Now!"
Yelling at Gringotts Saturday Night"Harry James Potter is my ward! You may not speak to him without my permission and presence!" shouted Albus in the mostly deserted lobby on Saturday night.
"Not so, Headmaster Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore," shouted Ironriver who had volunteered for duty as head teller this afternoon. "When the Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the Grand Warlock of the Wizengamot of Magical Britain, and the Supreme Mugwump of the ICW, along with Ludovic Bagman, head of the ministry's Department of Magical Games and Sports, Bartemius Crouch, Sr. head of the Department of International Magical Cooperation, Igor Karkaroff, Headmaster of Durmstrang, and Olympe Maxime Headmistress of Beauxbatons forced underaged Harry Potter to participate in the Triwizard Tournament, the government officials declared him to be an adult."
Holding up a copy of the declaration of emancipation, Ironriver continued, "The ministry issued the parchment and Gringotts received and processed the scroll so magic has accepted the decision."
"The Wizengamot will reverse it!" declared Dumbledore.
"Indeed? Will you attempt to reverse a declaration by Mother Magic?" asked Ironriver. "Please allow me to sell tickets for the gallery that day. I know hundreds of wizards and goblins who will pay good galleons to watch you question Mother Magic. The sparks will fly!"
"Let me speak with the boy!" Albus demanded again.
"No. Adult Harry Potter is with his vault manager. If you attempted to interrupt the meeting, the wards at Gringotts would view your interference as line theft. There'd be nothing left for your funeral pyre."
"But the boy knows nothing about his vaults!"
Noticing Rita Skeeter in the crowd listening, Ironriver explained, "You are correct Mr Dumbledore. Mr Harry Potter is fourteen years old but knows nothing about his vaults or patrimony. You claim to be his magical guardian, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore. Would yu care to explain why Mr Potter does not know about his heritage as the heir of a Most Ancient and Most Noble House?"
"He has never expressed any interest in his patrimony."
"Because he never knew he had one!" Ironriver spat. "You never told him about his parents, responsibilities, or rights as the future lord of a Most Ancient and Most Noble House in Magical Britain."
All demands of the headmaster were dismissed officially by Gringotts. Certified copies of the parchment were provided to the reporters in the crowd and Dumbledore sagged before he turned and left the lobby.
In the alley, he found the presence of all the Aurors to be comforting until Auror Proudfoot ordered the headmaster to move along and not cause more problems.
