Over the next two days, Kieran would keep a low profile and hide in plain sight as he got the investigation underway to find out how he got here, how to get back home, and how this universe's Peter Parker died.

He managed to acquire a computer from the trash in the alleyway, and managed to to get it working again thanks to Kieran's expertise in electronics.

Kieran then starts researching on the world he had ended up in as the news was still going on about the death of Peter Parker aka Spider-Man which was now on news outlets across the world.

It was during his research that Kieran discovered that this Earth's version of Kieran was dead for the last three years after an attack by the Green Goblin. Kieran was horrified as he read the article on how he died, apparently defending Peter from the Goblin, taking the blast for him.

He also learned about the funeral that was due to take place, and Kieran was going as it would both be best to show his support, and hopefully draw less attention.

Kieran then looks out of the window at New York, wondering if any version of him ever managed to live their full live, to grow old, and find love. Or was this their fate, like lambs to slaughter.

4TH DECEMBER 2018

Kieran watches from the crowd as Peter's wife; Mary Jane Parker came up to speak, Kieran was wearing his spare clothes to blend in as he also spots Aunt May with Mary Jane.

"My husband; Peter Parker was an ordinary person. He always said that it could be anyone behind the mask. He was just the kid who happened to be bit... He didn't ask for his powers. But he chose to be Spider-Man... My favourite thing about Peter was he made us each feel powerful. We all have powers of one kind of the other and in our own way, we are all Spider-Man, and we are all counting on you."

Kieran listens to the words that Mary Jane just spoke. 'Not all of us, Mary Jane. Not all of us.' He thought to himself as his spider-sense goes off as Kieran turns to see a young teenage boy wearing a Spider-Man costume from a shop who was staring right at him.

"You're like me." Kieran utters in surprise.

"Where's your suit?" The boy whispers quietly as Kieran silently points at his chest, indicating that his suit was underneath his clothes.

"Wanna talk somewhere?"

-

After quietly leaving the funeral, Kieran and the boy stopped at a diner not far from the church where Kieran learned that the boy's name was Miles Morales who was there the night Spider-Man died.

"So you're Spider-Man, but from another dimension?" Miles starts asking questions.

"Yep. One and only, my Peter Parker hung up the mask not too long ago, moved away from New York with MJ." Kieran answers as the two took turns to both ask and answer questions. "Spider bit you?"

"Yeah. How long?"

"Three years. Stated to like it, but now, I'm not sure I wanna keep these powers. Favourite song?"

"Sunflower. You?"

"Any catchy song released from 2006 to 2014. Hey! We're getting off topic here. Clearly, you have just been bitten by the spider." Kieran quickly reminds Miles.

"Yeah, it happened before... before Peter... you know..." Miles struggles to get his words out due to the memory still fresh in his head as Kieran notices this, placing his hand on top of Miles's.

"I know. He started this, now it's up to us to finish what he. But first, you need to learn basic Spiderling training 101. I can teach you be like me, but not exactly 100% me." Kieran tells Miles as his eyes widen in surprise.

"This is amazing. You can teach me just like Peter said he would." Miles whisper shouts.

"Indeed, and we've got some serious work to do, but first..." Kieran tells Miles as he turns to a waiter. "'cuse me, can we see the pudding menu?"

-

A while later after some dessert and buying a few comic books based on Spider-Man from the local comic book shop, Kieran checks if the coast was clear before turning to Miles. "Okay, coast is clear. Class is in session."

Kieran knew that Miles needed to learn and control his new powers as fast as humanly possible as the death of this universe's Peter Parker left a hole that needed to be filled, and Miles was now the one who would.

The question was, was Miles ready?

Almost immediately, Kieran noticed Miles didn't shoot organic webs like Kieran did which made things complicated, but Kieran got over that.

"Okay, Miles. Being a spider, you can climb up walls and stick to ceilings, meaning you can use it for stealth takedowns or moving undetected in a hostile environment. Plus your Spider-sense will come in handy when sensing danger." Kieran explains to Miles.

"Uh, how does that explain why we're here?" Miles then asks in confusion as he looks around the alleyway the two are in.

"Obviously, you need to learn how to control your powers. Try climbing up that wall of that building all the way to the top." Kieran taps the wall for emphasis.

"Okay..." Miles weakly says in a nervous tone as he starts climbing the wall, slowly finding his flow as Kieran watches on.

"That's it, Miles, just don't look down." Kieran calls out quietly.

Miles does look down, and immediately panics as Kieran groans. "Son of a gun."

Still, could be worse.

Unfortunately, it got worse as Miles suddenly becomes unstuck, falling to the ground as Kieran then hears a cracking sound coming from Miles.

"Miles, what was that sound, from your pocket?"

Miles notices this as he digs into his pocket and pulls out a memory stick that was now in pieces as Kieran looks on in concern. "What's that?"

"Oh no." Miles utters in horror.

What Kieran didn't know was what Miles broke was the override key, the only thing that could get Kieran back to his universe was now destroyed. Kieran snatches the key off Miles and inspects it carefully. "Looks like the outer shell has fractured, and I assume this stick isn't gonna work in this kind of state."

Miles looks down as doubt starts to creep in. "What if I'm not ready to become Spider-Man?"

"Trust me, Miles. No one is." 'I'm now starting to see these Spider-powers as not a gift, but a curse, a sacrifice. I don't wanna keep my powers. I wanna get rid of it for good.'

-

Night had fallen and the funeral was long over when Kieran gets a text from Miles to meet him at the church where Peter is buried. Kieran felt sorry for Miles breaking the stick that was actually his ticket home as they now needed proper equipment to make a new one.

Kieran arrives at the graveyard, swinging in as he then sees Miles standing over the grave of Peter Parker.

"Hey, Miles." Kieran greets him.

"Nice suit." Miles comments on Kieran's suit before turning to the gravestone. "I'm sorry, Mr. Parker. That thing you gave me, that key... I think I really messed it up. I wanna do what you asked. I really do. But I'm sorry, I'm not sure I'm the guy."

"It's okay, Miles, just let it out." Kieran tells Miles when his Spider-sense warns him of incoming danger.

"I can't do this without you." Miles continues to speak, not noticing someone behind the two.

"Hey kid."

In a split second, Miles yanks his mask down and grabs the figure's arm, sending a jolt electricity that sends the figure flying back hard.

Kieran's eyes are completely wide. "What the blue hell was that?!"

"I don't know." Miles tells Kieran as they both run forward to inspect the figure who got electrocuted by Miles's new power, a power that Kieran doesn't even have. As the two inspect the body, they find none other than Peter Parker except his hair was a different colour, not to mention older, and a bit fat.

"What the hell?" Kieran utters in shock.

-

"Alright, people, let's do this one last time.

My name is Peter B. Parker.

I was bitten by a radioactive spider, and for the last twenty-two years, I thought I was the one and only Spider-Man."

"I'm pretty sure you know the rest.

You see, I saved the city, fell in love, I got married, saved the city some more, maybe too much, my marriage got testy, made some dicey money choices - don't invest in a Spider-themed restaurant."

"Then, like fifteen years passed, blah blah blah super boring, I broke my back, a drone flew into my face, I buried Aunt May, my wife and I split.

But I handled it like a champ."

"Cause you know what? No matter how many times I get hit, I always get back up."

"And I got a lot of time to reflect and work on myself. Did you know that Seahorses that they mate for life? Can you imagine a Seahorse seeing another Seahorse and then making it work."

"She wanted kids and it scared me. I'm pretty sure I broke her heart."

"Flash forward, I'm in my apartment doing pushups, doing ab-crunches, getting strong when this thing happened. And I gotta say, weird things happen to me a lot. But this was real weird."

"You see, I was in New York, but... things were different. Also, I was dead, and blonde, and was kind of perfect. It was like looking in a mirror."

"I have a feeling the thing that brought me here was the thing that got him killed. You wanna know what happened next?"

-

"Miles?! What the hell where you thinking?!" Kieran yells out to Miles as the two start arguing over the unconscious body of a different Peter Parker.

"I didn't know I can do that!" Miles counters.

"Well I didn't know that either! And thanks to you, we're arguing over a unconscious Peter Parker in a graveyard in the middle of the night!" Kieran shouts back.

"Thanks to me? You're the one who agreed to teach me!"

"And you're the dumbass who's got us both dabbling in voodoo!" Kieran points his arm, unexpectedly in the direction of the police officer who heard the arguing from nearby. "Uh oh."

"What are you doing over there?"

"Crap, we gotta bail out. I'll deal with the cops." Kieran tells Miles as he goes to confront the cops, landing in front of them, his fists clenched and eyes glaring at them.

"I don't have time for this. Stand down and be spared." Kieran says in a serious tone, causing both cops to pull out their sidearms.

"Hands on your head!"

Kieran blinds the first officer with his web before disarming the second officer and slams both their head against each other, knocking them both out.

"I just did 80% of your job. You're not good with that! Dumbasses." Kieran states as he fires a web onto a moving train to catch up with both Miles and the doppelgänger Peter Parker. Kieran sits on the roof of the train, completely ignoring what was going on below him as Y/N plays on his phone.

"Let's do this again, one last time. My name is Kieran Diaz, and I thought I was the one and only Spider-Man. Which explain why I'm sitting on a moving train on a different Earth while rookie Spiderling is having a complete freak-out right now while also carrying a doppelgänger of this Earth's Spider-Man who's apparently dead. This is gotta be the most emotional... Spider-Week of my life." Kieran tells himself loudly as the train soon stops.

"Huh, better later than never." Kieran comments as he webs down to Miles who is lying on the floor alongside Peter Parker who is unconscious. "Miles, why you lying down on the job?"

"The train stopped." Miles simply answered. "We can't just leave him here. We need a place to lay low for now, and I know a safe place."
