Chapter 3
We start in the Halfelven House since we're already here. While we don't actually go in their personal bedrooms, the twins show me where Lord Elrond, Arwen, and they sleep. It's not far from where I'm staying in their personal guest rooms. They also go over the path from my room to their personal dining room so I can join them for meals if I wish.
Next, we go to the Last Homely House. It contains Lord Elrond's study that looks more like a giant library to me. It also has the Halls of Healing, and we take some time to sit and talk to Frodo even though he's still not woken up. Next, we come to the Hall of Fire which is lit by one big fireplace. They say it's empty most days, but at night many gather for telling of tales and singing of songs.
Finally, we end in the Halls of Dining, the communal dining area for the other residents of Rivendell. They also use it for grand dinners or celebrations. It's midday so I grab a small plate of food, but the twins say they're not hungry yet. Elrohir keeps Elladan engaged in conversation, I suspect, so I don't have to talk while I'm trying to eat.
We spend the afternoon at a collection of different buildings. The Market, where crafts and trades people spend most of their time. The Jewler and Tailor are the most easily identifiable to me. There is also a glassblower, and I watch fascinated as he works.
"There's nothing like this where I'm from." I say absentmindedly. The twins give each other a strange look and I continue before they can ask questions. "Any glassware is sold already prepared. I've never actually seen it be made."
"Where is it again you say you hail from?" Elrohir asks.
"I haven't, just that it's far away. Most people haven't heard of it."
"We've travelled far and wide in our time." Elladan says confidently, smugly, challengingly.
"Ontario." I say and his face drops in confusion. I don't try to hold back my smug smirk. "What was that about having travelled far and wide?" I say sickeningly sweet. Elrohir chuckles at his brother's frown. It doesn't last long though before Elladan perks back up.
"You'll simply have to lead us there one day."
"Keep dreaming." I shake my head at him.
I close my door with a small smile on my face when I'm back in my room. As much as I hate to admit it, spending the day with the twins has made me feel better. I change quickly and crawl into the comfy bed. Sleep claims me quickly.
"So, what are you two doing today?" I ask. "Myself? I think I'll take a tour of the grounds today." I say to the twins when we're finished our breakfasts.
"Peculiar, we were thinking a walk through the ground would be enjoyable, weren't we brother?" Elladan elbows Elrohir.
"What a coincidence." I hold back my smile.
"As we all plan on touring, shall we accompany you?" Elrohir offers me his elbow.
"You shall." I say taking it. We take only a few steps before Elladan flanks me and tosses an arm around my shoulder. I give him my deadpan look and he grins down at me.
We start at a garden by the Last Homely House. It's full of herbs and vegetables for the Halls of Healing and the Kitchens. One elf filling a basket eyes the three of us curiously as we survey the garden.
After that we go to the stables Westmost of Rivendell. Though they tell me there are more horses in the stables in the Northern most regions of Rivendell. One of the horse's nicker as I scratch their nose. I giggle and step back.
"We could ride some time if you would like." Elladan offers.
"I don't know how." I decline, shaking my head.
"You do not know how to ride a horse?" Elladan asks, genuinely confused.
"I only went horseback riding when I was little, and even that was only a guided walk."
"I am amazed you made it here then, since you claim your home so far away."
"I'm lucky I guess." I shrug at Elladan.
We visit the hot springs next, a communal bathing area. There are two separate pools, one for women, one for men. It's empty when we arrive to look around, but an elf comes in with her supplies while we're there, so we leave.
We spend the rest of the morning walking the trails through the forests behind the main buildings before heading to the entrance to see the waterfalls. There's movement across the bridge and one man and three children come into view.
"Aragorn!" I call out and the twins stop mid sentence. "Sam, Merry, Pippin!" I jog across the bridge to meet them. "I'm glad you guys made it safely."
"Miss Brielle! How's Mr. Frodo? How's your arm?" Sam asks.
"Frodo is still asleep, but my arm is much better." I say and pull my sleeve up so I can move my hand about to show them.
"Estel!" The twins say in unison. I look up in time to see Aragorn give them each a tired smile.
"My friends, it is good to see you again." He places a hand on each of their shoulders. "I'm glad to see you made it to Rivendell safely Brielle. Did Lord Elrond have the answers you were searching for?"
"I don't know yet. He said he was going to speak with Mithrandir."
"I am sure they will find something." He says encouragingly.
"Can we visit Mr. Frodo?" Sam asks anxiously.
"Perhaps a bath and some food first young Sam." Elladan suggests.
"Food!" Merry and Pippin cheer together.
We cross the bridge together and Lindir and Lord Elrond are waiting for us on the other side. I stand aside as Lord Elrond welcomes them and assures Sam Frodo is well, merely sleeping.
Aragorn gets a room next to mine and the hobbits share one next to him. Once they've stashed their belongings, we're separated as they go to bathe. I wait in my room, with the door open, for them to return.
When they're all clean we head to the Halls of Dining. Elladan and Elrohir sit entirely too close to either side of me and listen while the hobbits eat and tell us of their journey here. Once the hobbits and Aragorn have had their fill, we finally go to visit Frodo. The twins leave us to visit alone. Aragorn and I stand to the side while the hobbits crowd around Frodo's bed. They sit and talk quietly to him while he sleeps.
"The brothers seem fond of you." Aragorn says quietly to me as we watch the group in front of us.
"We've spent a lot of time together since I got here. They healed my arm." Aragorn smiles down at me.
"The brothers' favour is valuable. They are fiercely protective and skilled warriors."
"That's good, because I can't get rid of them." I say jokingly. He grins down at me.
Aragorn excuses himself, I'm assuming, to go see Arwen, and I make my way to one of the porches. The hobbits' chatter is just barley audible in the background. I spend the rest of the day just sitting and enjoying the lively nature.
"No way." I say the next morning to the twins.
"Come now, we told ada of your dilemma and he agreed it'd be advantageous of you to learn." Elrohir tries to convince me.
"I do not need to learn how to ride a horse."
"If you wish to travel anywhere-"
"I don't." I cut off Elrohir's attempt to persuade me.
"You can come willingly, or we can carry you." Elladan reaches for me, and I step back out of his wingspan.
"You wish." I deny and start walking away. I hear their footsteps follow me.
"Brielle." Elrohir tries again. I take off running and I hear a laugh before two pairs of footsteps pick up speed.
I weave through the corners of the path we've been walking, toward the main house, and away from the stables. The fallen leaves crunch loudly under my feet as I run. The waterfall rushes loudly nearby and I know I'm close to the safety of other elves.
I don't hear the twins anymore, so I check over my shoulder to see if they've given up the chase. Thud. I run into something solid, and the air is knocked out of me as I stumble back. Hands try to keep me upright, but I land on my butt anyway.
"Agh." I breath out as pain radiates from the bruises I'm sure are now forming on my rear end. I look up to see who I ran into and want to vomit. "Oh my god." I whisper out. I cover my face with my hands. "I can't believe I almost took out the Prince of Mirkwood." I whisper to myself again, and I hear a chuckle. I peak through my fingers as he crouches before me. "I'm so sorry. Oh my god, so sorry. Are you alright? I didn't hurt you, did I?" I hide my face again and groan.
"I remain unharmed." He says with amusement colouring his voice. He grabs my wrists and pulls my hands away from my face. Something behind me catches his attention and he scans the trees before indignation flashes on his face. I look over my shoulder to see what's caught his eye; Elladan and Elrohir are full out, bent over, laughing at my misfortune.
"Kill me now. I'm never going to live this down." I mutter to the universe.
"Such measures seem wholly unnecessary." Legolas stands and pulls me up with him.
"I see you've met the Prince of Mirkwood, elegren gwinig. Legolas, mae govannen." Elladan says bringing his fist to his chest.
"I see women are still fleeing from you, Elladan. Elrohir, mae govannen." Legolas brings his fist to his chest as well. I giggle as Elladan's jaw drops slightly, Legolas half smiles.
"We were attempting to teach her how to ride a horse." Elrohir informs him.
"You do not know how to ride a horse?" Legolas asks turning to me.
"That was our reaction as well." Elladan throws his hands up and lets them fall. I sigh dramatically.
"You guys bond over making fun of me. I'm going somewhere else!" I say backing away.
"Do watch where you are going, we'd hate for you to take out a king as well." Elladan calls out laughing again.
I huff and glare at him before turning and heading for Frodo's room. He's not in there when I arrive so he must be awake now. He's probably with Bilbo. I think he liked to spend time in the Hall of Fire if I'm remembering correctly.
I make my way inside. The Hall is mostly empty but there's a group of five hobbits sat in the corner near the big fire. Frodo and Bilbo are sitting next to each other holding hands and laughing at something I can't hear. Merry jumps up and starts swinging his arms around like he's fighting with a sword. I imagine him retelling Aragon defending us on Weathertop.
I'm just about to leave when Pippin locks eyes with me. He waves me over with his hand, but I hesitate; I don't want to interrupt their reunion. Sam and Frodo turn to see what Pippin's waving at. I sigh to myself and make my way across the room to them.
"I'm glad to see you up and well Frodo. How are you feeling?" I ask.
"Good as new. Though, I'm ready to go home." I give him my best smile.
"I'm afraid we haven't gotten the chance to meet yet. I'm Brielle." I turn and address Bilbo.
"Hi dear, I'm Bilbo, Frodo's uncle. Thank you for protecting my dear boy on Weathertop." My brows furrow in confusion. "Merry was just retelling your encounter with the Nazgûl. Most brave of you." I flush at the undeserved compliment.
"Aragorn did most of the work, he's the one you should thank."
"Nonsense, accept the praise and come sit with us." Bilbo insists. Sam drags over another chair for me, and I join the circle.
"Tell us again of your time with the goblins!" Pippin requests. I sit and listen for hours as they exchange stories of adventures from before I was dropped on Middle-Earth.
"Here you are! Weve searched most of Rivendell for you." Elrohir says when he finds us in the Hall of Fire. "I'm glad you are all together actually. There's to be a feast soon in welcome of our guests. You should freshen up and make your way to the Hall of Dining."
The hobbits stand and return their chairs to their places. I copy them, then Elrohir and I walk behind them as they leave. He stays with me all the way to my room.
"I should inform Elladan I found you before he worries too much. I'll take my leave and find you at dinner." He says and turns to leave.
"Tell him to cut it out, no touchy feely stuff, remember. Especially in Rivendell, I'm safe."
"Aye, elegren gwinig. I will tell him to 'cut it out' as you say." I laugh at how awkward the modern phrase sounds coming from his mouth.
I wait for him to leave, then close the door behind me. I dress in one of the nicer dresses I've been provided and use one of the hair elastics I keep on my wrist to tie up the top half of my hair in a messy, but intentional, bun.
The Hall is already a flurry of activity when I get there. Many of the tables are full and food is being brought out. I scan the room for Elladan or Elrohir but Bilbo catches my attention and waves me over. There's an empty seat between him and 2 red headed dwarves, Gimli and Glóin.
"Hi Bilbo." I greet as I approach.
"Hi dear, let me introduce you to Glóin and his son Gimli. I was telling you about them earlier."
"Nice to meet you." I say to them while taking the empty seat. "What brought you to Rivendell?"
"We came to warn Bilbo of some messengers asking after him, but it sounds like Lord Elrond would like to speak with us as well." Glóin answers.
"Sounds serious. I hope it's nothing too bad." I say.
I eat my meal between Bilbo and Glóin while they catch up with each other. Bilbo tells Glóin all about writing down his adventure and Glóin tells Bilbo all about the mountain and how they're thriving there since reclaiming it.
When the occupants of the room are stuffed to their hearts content, the party moves to the Hall of Fire. A party is not really my thing, but it feels rude to leave already so I follow everyone as they shuffle in. I lean against a pillar and take in the room. Music starts playing and a few elves dance to it. The group of dwarves sit together with their drinks. Arwen and Aragorn are standing off to the side talking to each other. The hobbits are sitting close by trying to learn the words to the songs. Boromir and Gandalf are standing and talking with Lord Elrond, Lindir, Erestor, and Glorfindel. I'm standing by a pillar off to the side.
"Do you not wish to participate in the activities?" I look to my left to see Legolas.
"Parties aren't really my thing, neither are big crowds, or even people really. Why aren't you participating in the festivities?" I ask.
"It is difficult to be merry with the sense of foreboding I feel." His face is troubled as he scans the crowd. The glow of the fire flickers across his face. I take a moment to finally take him in. He looks almost identical to Orlando, but his features seem older some how. He really is handsome.
"Everything will work out, everything happens for a reason. There are so many notable and strong people here, take strength and hope from them." I suggest. He considers me and I give him a small smile.
We stand in companionable silence. I wonder how long I have to stay to be polite. Thought, if I'm honest, I don't mind simply standing with Legolas, he doesn't seem to want to talk much. It's safe.
"Are you avoiding us?" Elladan steps between Legolas and I and throws an arm over my shoulder. I send him a vexed glare and remove his arm from my person. It does not phase him.
"No, I just didn't see you at dinner." I say and Elladan's face falls.
"We left to dispose of an orc spy." He explains.
"Is everyone alright?" I ask and his smirk reappears on his face.
"Oh, elegren gwinig. A few orc spies are child's play to us." He rubs the top of my hair and I bat his hands away. "May we join you and the Princeling here?"
"Actually, I was just going to excuse myself. I think I'm ready to retire for the night. Goodnight gentlemen, enjoy your partying." I say and retreat to my room. Alone, any tension leaves me, and sleep comes easy.
The Halfelven House is quiet when I emerge from my room the next morning. I knock on the twins' door with no answer, the dining hall is empty, and there's no one I recognise on the paths. I eat a quick meal in the public dining hall then wander the Last Homely House.
The books of the study seem like as good a thing to do as any, so I browse them looking for something I'll be able to understand. There's one book translating Sindarin to English, er Common I guess it is here, so I take that and sit at one of the empty tables. Air flutters across my cheeks as I scan through the pages. The book contains three parts: the alphabet and pronunciation of letters, grammar rules, and a translation dictionary. I decide to start at the beginning and work my way through.
After a while I sigh, frustrated, and look around the room. There are only a few other elves present but no one pays me any mind. A calendar hanging on the wall catches my attention. I close and pick up my book before making my way to it.
October 25th. I stare at the date feeling like I'm missing something. The council! That's why I couldn't find anyone today.
"Ah, I'm glad I found you. Come, walk with me a moment." Lord Elrond's voice is clear by my side. I smile and nod at him.
We walk to another room I've never been to before; it looks like a meeting room of sorts, a round table and chairs sit in the center of it surrounded by older looking scrolls and books and maps.
"This is my good friend, Gandalf, I said I would take council with." Lord Elrond introduces us.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, I'm Brielle." I say and bow slightly to the wizard at the table.
"The pleasure is mine dear. What are you reading?" Gandalf nods to the book I'm holding against my chest.
"Oh," I pull it away and look at the cover, "I was just browsing through some Sindarin translations. I couldn't find anyone this morning, so I went to the study. I hope that's alright." I turn to Lord Elrond at the end of my explanation.
"You are welcome to dwell anywhere you like while you are here. I'm pleased you chose this book; it may be of use to you." Lord Elrond says moving to the table. He motions for me to sit. My heart sinks.
"Why?"
"Have a seat and we shall discuss." He encourages. I look between him and Gandalf before slowly sitting. "I'm afraid we do not have the answers you seek in regards to a return home."
"I am, along with 8 others, departing on a journey. We will take our first rest in Lothlórien. There, Lady Galadriel may have answers for you, should you accompany us." Gandalf says.
Join the fellowship? I feel my face wrinkle in concern subconsciously. I can't do that. I'd get killed. It's way too dangerous. But it's only to Lothlórien… the only danger I remember on the way there is Moria. A throat clearing breaks my train of though and I look up.
"Could I speak to you alone for a moment?" I ask Lord Elrond. He and Gandalf look at each other in concern before Gandalf rises and leaves. "I don't know if that's a good idea. The ring-"
"You know of the ring?" He cuts me off. Crap. I nod nervously, I can't tell if he's angry with me or not.
"I may have omitted some things in our first meeting. Where I'm from, Middle-Earth, Rivendell, you, Gandalf, the ring… it's all a story. Written in books, recorded as movies. It's not real. I mean no offense of course; I can clearly see this is real now." I rush out.
"So you know of the rings' fate." he says more to himself than to me.
"I didn't omit anything to be rude. I was just worried if I said anything it'd change the story." I bite the inside of my cheek anxiously.
"Do not fret. It was a smart omission on your part." I relax a little at his assurance. "I still believe your best opportunity to return home lies with Lady Galadriel. Is it safe for you to travel to Lothlórien?"
"I don't know if safe is the right word…" I mumble to myself. "But in the version I know, everyone makes it to Lothlórien." I say louder. He frowns having picked up on my phrasing. "That's my only option? Lothlórien?"
"I am afraid so." He says gravely. I take a deep breath.
"Okay, then I'll leave with them."
"I think it wise you keep your knowledge to yourself." He cautions and I nod, agreeing with him.
"I don't want to do anything to change the ending for you guys." I give him a small reassuring smile and some of the darkness clears from his face. He stands and lets Gandalf back into the room.
"I've agreed to come with you." I say.
"Good, good. The fellowship will depart in 2 months time. There is much to plan and prepare. We also await scouts return and must ensure Frodo is healed for travel." Gandalf says already thinking through everything.
"Do not fret. You will find your way home." Lord Elrond cups my cheek. I nod and try to give him a smile, thoughts of Moria sit heavy on my mind. I leave them to go over plans.
I sense two presences just before an arm is thrown around my shoulder. I roll my eyes and glare up at Elladan. They've caught me on my way back to the study.
"We're making improvements elegren gwinig. You didn't force my arm away." He says removing his arm and tapping underneath my chin.
"Do you enjoy antagonizing me?"
"Immensely. You look like a baby warg when you are irritated." I raise an unamused eyebrow at him and he bursts out laughing. It's infectious and the corners of my mouth threaten to tug up.
"What are you reading?" Elrohir looks at the book in my arms. I hand it over to him. "Sindarin. We could teach it to you." I side eye Elladan. He'd probably set me up to say something stupid. "I could teach it to you." Elrohir amends his offer.
"Brielle, you wound me. After all the progress we've made, I thought you trusted me." Elladan feigns hurt.
"Calm down. I let your arm be. That's very different from entrusting you with all my deep dark secrets." Elladan keeps up his act; he's basically a giant child. "I'll be alright though, thanks. I won't need to know more than the basics." I take the book back from Elrohir.
"We'll test you when we get back then." Elrohir says grinning at me.
"When you get back?"
"A few of us are going our for a week in search of the Black Riders." He answers.
"Oh, good luck then. Be safe." I say.
"Walk with us to the Bridge?" They ask at the same time and I nod.
We stop by their rooms first to pick up a spare change of clothes, then by a small room filled with weapons. I watch as they equip themselves with bows, arrows, and swords. When they're done, they look like fierce warriors. They look like men rather than the carefree childish air they give off when they're teasing me.
"Enjoying the view?" Elladan asks coming back to me. My face flushes at having been caught staring.
"More like daydreaming so I don't have to look at you anymore." He grins at my weak attempt at a cover up.
"Whatever you say elegren gwinig." Elladan pats me on the head as he passes.
"I hope for your sake you are absent when she gets her hands on a weapon brother. I fear you will be her first target." Elrohir laughs following after him.
I push off the wall and follow them the rest of the way to the Bridge. A small group is waiting for us, or the twins rather. Glorfindel, Aragorn and an elf I don't recognise greet us.
"Everyone ready?" Glorfindel asks. There's a chorus of 'aye' and nods. "Let's depart."
"Farewell elegren gwinig!" Elladan calls over his shoulder as they jog away.
"No goodbyes remember!" I shout back at him. He's made the moment feel final and it makes my skin crawl. I itch my arm and turn back toward the House. I step on the bridge and take in the big buildings. Rivendell suddenly seems too big and very lonely. I push that aside, to deal with never, and make my way back to the study.
I spend the first three days holed away at the corner table translating basic words I may need in Lothlórien. It's rough but I feel like I'm making some progress. It's times like these I wish I wasn't so stubborn when it comes to help. I can learn the translations all I want but only someone who speaks it can help me with pronunciation. At the same time, having someone laugh at me again for mispronouncing something is a big NOPE! Experiencing that in school was more than enough.
I close the book and put it back on the shelf. I'm all practiced out for today. There are voices coming from the Hall of Fire as I pass, and I peak my head in to see who it is. The four hobbits are standing in a circle, clapping and stomping their feet to a tune. I smile as Merry and Pippin link arms and move in a circle.
"With foes ahead, behind us dread,
Beneath the sky shall be our bed,
Until at last our toil be passed,
Our journey done, our errand sped."
I push away from the door and continue down the hall. Just as I'm about to round the corner I collide with someone; this time much less dramatically as we're both walking.
"Apologies my lady." Boromir grips my upper arms to steady me.
"It's alright, partially my fault. I wasn't looking where I was going." There's an awkward pause. "I'm Brielle. What should I call you?"
"Boromir, Captain of Gondor." He introduces himself.
"It's nice to meet you. I'll be travelling with you until Lothlórien." He looks dismayed. "What?" I ask.
"A journey such as this is no place for a lady."
"Excuse me? I have two perfectly working legs and I made the trip here with Frodo." I say defensively.
"I meant no offence, merely worry for your safety and comfort." He should be worried about his safety instead. I bite my tongue, trying to remember that these are different times.
"No offense taken. Why are you pacing the halls?" I ask knowing there's not much down the hall I was headed for. I only use it as a shortcut to the Halfelven House.
"Restless with the delay, I suppose. We should make haste instead of uselessly waiting." He says with frustration.
"I understand. I'd like to be on our way too, but scouts are making sure the Black Riders have left. Plus, we need to make sure Frodo is strong enough for the journey. If you're looking for something to do you could teach the hobbits sword play. Kill two birds with one stone; fill your time and be doing something useful." I suggest.
"I may heed your advice, lady Brielle."
"Just Brielle is fine." He looks at me strangely but nods.
" I shall take my leave, goodnight." I watch as he steps around me and leaves.
I finish my trek to my room and lay down to sleep. The next day as I'm headed for the study, I see Boromir outside with the hobbits sparring. I smile as I take my normal seat in the corner and flip to the pronunciation section of the book.
I spend the next two days in the study as well, only half paying attention to what I'm reading. Today marks day seven of their hunt for the Nazgûl. I'm entirely to excited for their return, which in turn, makes me too uncomfortable to focus on learning another language today.
I pace the trails near the front of Rivendell while I wait. I'm being stupid. What if they don't even come back today? What if they don't come back because something went wrong? There's a light thud against my head as a pinecone falls from the trees and hits me before joining the others on the forest floor.
I continue my pacing. There's a rustling above me and small sticks, crunchy leaves, and more pinecones come raining down. I look up but can't find where the animal has gone to. I move to the other side of the path and head back in the direction of the Bridge.
"Really?!" I stop and look up again when a pinecone hits me in the forehead. "Go on, go somewhere else, or at the very least stop following me." I say to whatever animal is up in the canopy of leaves. A projectile twig is my answer and I just manage to step aside to doge it.
I stay still waiting for something else to come down. The leave stays still but I continue my watch. I hear footsteps approach, but I don't dare look away.
"May I inquire as to your purpose for glaring at the trees?" Legolas asks once he appears in my peripheral vision.
"A squirl is out to get me. Anytime I move it drops something on me. Or more like throws it at me I guess." I spare him a quick glance and he's looking at me like I'm crazy but amusing. The trees rustle and I catch a glimpse of something long and dark, hair-like.
"Elrohir is that you?" I call up and Elladan's laughter bellows out. "For being a million years old, you guys are so immature." I bend down and collect a pinecone to chuck at them. The branches move and Elladan's face comes into view before he catches it and tosses it back at me.
"Get down here and face me like real men!" I laugh and go to bend down to pick up more, but Legolas is already holding a handful of ammo out to me. I stare at him in surprise but take the offered projectiles.
"No way. You may be small, but you are scary. Surviving the dark servants poison without so much as making a sound?" Elladan dramatically shivers. I laugh then roll my eyes.
"I'll get Legolas to bring me up there." I threaten.
"I didn't realise you two were so close." Elrohir pops his head out too and chimes in.
"We're not, but I'm sure he'd help me if it means getting back at you two." I say hoping he won't leave me hanging.
"Would you like to collect ammunition before ascending?" Legolas asks me loud enough for them to hear.
"Hey! You can't forsake your own kind, Woodland elf." Elladan cries out.
"His allegiance lies with whomever he chooses and right now that's with me." I say throwing another cone.
"Fine, we surrender." They say together and drop from the trees to the path before me.
"Beg for mercy." I push my luck. Elrohir raises and eyebrow at me and I lift a pinecone, ready to throw.
"Please spare us great Woodland Prince and Lady of Rivendell." Elladan pleads, dropping to one knee. I try to keep my composure and glance at Legolas.
"You've been spared." Legolas says mostly straight faced.
"I'm glad you guys are back safe." I say more seriously, turning back to the twins.
"That was never in question elegren gwinig." Elladan says affectionately then throws an arm around my shoulder.
"Already?" I growl and remove his arm from me. His laugh is the only answer I get.
