Hello everybody Zelda777 here with a new story. This story is an AU to the Eternal Love of Twilight. I started to write this story because a whole lot of What if's popped into my head. So I wrote this one. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed writing it. Don't worry I will still be writing my other stories here on this site. After the defeat of Ganondorf and Link reunited with Midna who he thought Ganondorf had killed. They were walking ahead while Zelda was following and watching them from behind.

"Midna I know you have to return to the Twilight Realm," Link said.

Midna nodded her head, "Yeah, I have to get back to my people."

"I have one request to ask of you."

"Of course, anything," Midna answered and Zelda sensed what he was going to say.

Link took a deep breath as they made their way to the mirror chamber located in the Arbiter's Grounds.

"I want you to take me with you to the Twilight Realm," Link finally said.

Midna looked back at him completely shocked by his request. Can he read my thoughts, Midna thought.

"Do you really know what you are asking?" Zelda asked, "I mean have you thought this through."

"I may have not thought through all of it, but I have thought about what my heart is telling me,' Link answered.

Midna's heart started to flutter about what her heart was telling her about Link, "And what is your heart telling you?"

Link blushed and took a deep breath, "Midna, I want to tell you that I love you."

Zelda's mouth dropped having heard what Link said not expecting that. Midna was quiet as the stepped inside the mirror chamber.

Did I say something wrong. Link thought hoping he didn't go to far. He looked behind them and noticed that Zelda wasn't behind them. He then looked to Midna.

"I'm sorry if I broke that friendship barrier that we gained along our journey."

Midna looked back at Link and he noticed that she had a tear in her eye.

"What's wrong Midna?" Link asked.

"I'm not sad," Midna answered. "I'm actually happy that you told me that you loved me."

Link looked at her, "Really."

"Yes, because I love you too," Midna said. "But are you really sure you want to go with me to the Twilight Realm?"

Link nodded his head, "Of course I do."

Midna looked down again, "There may be no way for you to return here because if you are coming with me or not I will have to shatter the Mirror of Twilight."

"I understand," Link said. "Let's go."

"Wait, there are some people who would like to say good-bye to you."

Link and Midna looked behind them. They were both shocked at who was there.

"What are you guys doing here?" Link asked.

Ashei looked at him and smiled, "Zelda reached out to us and told us your intentions."

Link and Midna looked down as Telma laughed, "I knew you would fall in love with the girl in your shadow."

Link blushed, "How did you know there was a girl in my shadow?"

"As a bar owner you tend to sense the presence of customers," Telma answered winking at Link.

"And she is a beautiful young gal," Rusl said, "In my opinion you should stay here back in Ordon, but your happiness is the most important to me and to Uli."

"Thank you for wanting me to be happy."

"Of course, you should be happy because you saved Hyrule from Ganondorf," Auru added.

"Plus, if you go to the Twilight Realm you could tell me all about it." Shad said, "Because, I am curious what the Twilight Realm is like."

"Maybe one day the people of Hyrule will be able to travel to the Twilight Realm." Zelda said, "And maybe vice versa."

And with that Midna sent a ball of Twilight energy at the Mirror. It started to crack as Link and Midna walked through.

They made their way through the mirror and soon they found their way to the Twilight Realm.

"I hope they will accept me," Link said as they walked inside the Twilight Palace.

"They should."

When all of a sudden four guards surrounded them.

"Identify yourself light dweller," One guard demanded.

"My name is Link and I am the Hero of Twilight."

"Is he telling the truth Lady Midna?"

Midna nodded her head, "Yes that's true."

"We heard that you had been kidnapped by a light dweller."

"It's quite the opposite, he actually saved my life."

The guards looked at each other, "I'm sorry Lady Midna, but we have orders to take any light dwellers into custody."

Midna's mouth dropped, "Who gave you those orders?"

"Your father the king of the Twilight Realm did."

Two of the guards took Link and the other two escorted Midna to the throne room.

"I will try to help you as soon as I can," Midna said to Link.

"Lady Midna don't forget about me."

In the Throne Room

Once Midna entered the throne room she saw her father.

"Midna welcome home." Vern said, :I'm glad to see that you are safe."

"Father, I want you to release Link from custody now," Midna demanded.

"Who is Link?"

"He is a light dweller who got put into custody." Midna answered, "He saved my life many times."

"Midna, you need to prepare for your meeting with the Elders while I speak with this Light Dweller who you call Link."

Midna nodded her head and left.

Vern watched her leave before he sighed, I have a feeling she fell in love with this light dweller named Link. He thought.

"Ragt!"

The guard ran in, "Yes, your majesty."

"Bring me the light dweller."

Ragt bowed and left.

Link was pacing around his cell when he heard his name being called.

"Link are you doing okay?" Midna asked.

"Yeah, I'm doing fine," Link replied. "This isn't the first cell I was in."

Midna smiled remembering how she freed him of the chains when he was a wolf, "Yeah, and I helped you escape that cell."

Link nodded, "Yeah, but it's too risky for you to help me out of this one."

"My father is going to talk to you while I am at a meeting with the elders."

"Okay, you shouldn't be late."

Midna nodded her head and left. As soon as she was gone the guard walked in."

"His majesty would like to see you, light dweller." Ragt said, "I will escort you to the throne room.

Link nodded his head as he waited for the door to open. After that happened Link followed the guard to the throne room. As soon as he got to the throne room, Link walked in and bowed.

"Yes, I came with Midna after we saved Hyrule from Ganondorf," Link answered. "Because I found the Twilight Realm very beautiful when I came here to defeat Zant as well."

"Well, I totally agree with you on the beauty of the Twilight Realm."

"So with your permission I would like to live here."

King Vern thought about it for a second, "I'll have to think about it."

"Of course take your time."

"Midna told me that you saved her life in Hyrule."

Link nodded, "Yes, but she also saved my life as well."

"I have one more question for you."

Link looked at him, "Of course, you could ask me anything."

"What kind of magic do you know?"

"I'm sorry your majesty," Link answered. "I don't know any magic."

King Vern looked at him, "Then how did you defend yourself against the evil you faced?"

"I used a sword and shield," Link replied.

"Us, Twili used to know how to use weapons like that but we forgot how to." King Vern said sadly, "But I'm worried that somebody will wage war against us and they will be able to make it where we can't use magic."

Link thought for a moment, "Do you need someone to train them?"

"We have someone," King Vern replied. "But they aren't very skilled."

"Can I help train them?"

"That would be great but first I want you to undergo some magic training."

Link looked at him, "So you are going to let me stay in the Twilight Realm."

"Of course, but you will not hang around my daughter."

"I understand," Link replied little did they know Midna was listening in the shadows.

"Negt and Silva will take you to your room here in the palace," Vern said. "It's getting late so you will start tomorrow."

Link nodded and followed the two guards when Midna burst into the throne room.

"Why can't Link hang around me?"

King Vern looked at his daughter, "You are the next ruler of this realm and it wouldn't be right if a light dweller became the next king."

"I want to marry him."

"Absolutely not!" Vern yelled, "I will not allow it!"

"Why not?" Midna asked.

"You weren't listening, I said you're the next ruler and you can't marry a light dweller!"

"Fine, I'd rather not be a princess so I could marry the man who I love!" Midna said as she burst out of the room.

King Vern watched her leave and sighed. Well my suspicions were correct. He thought as he left the throne room for the night.

Link was settling down on the bed and thought about all that had happened to him the entire time he was in the Twilight Realm. I wonder why Midna's father doesn't seem to like any light dwellers. Link thought as he fell asleep.

Once Midna got under the covers she started to cry. She didn't understand why her father was acting the way he was.

"Why is life so unfair?"

There was a knock on the door as her father walked in. Midna just glared at her father.

"Why do you hate light dwellers so much?" Midna asked.

King Vern looked at his daughter, "I didn't always."

"What happened?"

"Well, before you were born, I fell in love with a light dweller," King Vern started. "She was a queen in the realm of light and we knew that our love was forbidden."

Midna just continued to listen.

"I traveled back and forth between here and the realm of light. Pretty soon she was pregnant with twins," King Vern continued. "Of two beautiful girls, one a Twili and the other a Hylian."

"So then what happened?"

"Have patience my daughter?" King Vern said. "Then one day the mother of my two children ran in and told me that to return to the Twilight Realm because she feared that me and my Twili daughter were in danger."

"You left them?"

King Vern nodded his head, "Yes, but I didn't want to."

Midna was quietly thinking then asked, "Was the Twili me?"

"Yes, also you and your sister were pretty much inseparable," King Vern answered. "Her name was named after previous Princesses of Legends, Zelda."

"Wait," Midna said, "You named her Zelda!"

"Yes, you and her are the same age."

"She's the princess of Hyrule," Midna said shocked about what her father just told her.

King Vern looked at his daughter surprised, "Really, you've seen her."

"Yes, but she told me that her mother was killed and her father disappeared."

"I heard another light dweller killed her, so I've been mad at light dwellers ever since," King Vern said.

"But, why are you punishing Link for what happened?"

"I just need some time to trust him."

Midna hugged her father, "So can I hang out with Link."

"I'm sorry not right now," King Vern said, "you should understand now."

"I may not like it, but I will obey you," Midna finally said after a long silence.
