WAY HOME

Chapter 1

It was an exhausting day. The emergency wing was filled with shinobi. Sakura could not wait to get out of the hospital today.

She bid goodbye to all the nurses she had worked with on her 12 hour shift. Ready to go home, she went on ahead and exited the hospital. She made a sharp left turn, and she bumped into a man wearing a dark cloak. Sakura turned to apologize but before she could the man was gone.

The cool air was unsettling as she walked back to her apartment after her shift. Her trench coat, and scarf seemed to have caught many snowflakes as she made the walk home. Sakura always loved the winter. The silence on the way home was unusual, the streets of the hidden leaf were usually packed with comforting voices of families, and ninjas. Something was unusual but she couldn't point a finger at it.

She walked a little more until she realised she should've been halfway to her apartment by now, what was going on? She observed the streets carefully to see if anything was out of place, then it clicked. Genjutsu!

"release" she whispered.

She found herself to be standing right where she was when she bumped into that man. Why had he put a genjutsu on her? Concerned, she turned and went back inside to the hospital.

"Hi guys! I'm sorry to bother you again, but did you see a man with a dark cloak come in here?" Sakura asked Haruhi.

"Hey Sakura-chan, no I did not, why was he your friend?" The nurse replied.

"No nothing like that, I was just asking. I guess I should be on my way. Good Night! Get home safe." Sakura says.

"Bye!" she hears from a distance.

Something was off. Was this worth visiting the Hokages office? She should file an incident report at least. She made the short walk to the building. She went up the stairs hoping to catch Kakashi, or Shikamaru. As she stopped in front of the office she heard hushed voices.

"Kakashi-Sensei, are you in there?" She inquired.

She heard rumbles, but after a good 10 seconds she heard "Yes, come in." She opened the door to find Kakashi standing in front of his desk in a casual manner holding a scroll. "Are you busy sensei? I can come back later." She says.

"No worries Sakura, what brings you here?" He asks.

"I wish to make an incident report."

"About?" he asked.

"I had just finished my shift at the hospital and I ran into a man in a dark cloak. He instantly put me in a genjutsu, and thought I'd be too stupid to notice. I didn't catch his face, but can you get someone to look into it?" She finishes.

"Someone put you in a genjutsu? That is odd. I'll send some guards to scour the area." He says with a weird expression.

"Thank you, I'll be on my way then." Sakura smiled.

She made her way out, and closed the door. She stood outside the door to readjust her coat, until she heard some hushed voices. She put her ear to the door and heard some muffled voices.

"You put her in a genjutsu! What were you thinking?"

"I didn't want her to know." The other muffled voice said.

"You know she will find out right?" Kakashi says.

"That still gives me time." She hears the other voice say.

She hears feet starting to shuffle, and Sakura runs as quietly as she can out of the building. Who had Kakashi been talking to? And who is the man that put her under a genjutsu? His facial expressions after she had told him something relatively concerning did not even phase him. Sakura walked down the stairs, adjusting her light blue scarf, and finally walked out the doors.

She stood outside to peer through the window attached to the office to see who the man had been. They were not moving much, it was hard to tell which one Kakashi was. For a few moments the two figures stood there fairly still. She waits for a second, and two, and three, and finally the figure turns and makes direct eye contact with her.

This was the last person she had expected to be there. She would recognize those eyes from miles away. They stared at her, and she stared back. Sakuras breath was knocked out of her.
