The next Tuesday, Emma and Jenny proceeded to go to Emma's school together with Cleo and Rikki. Emma was wearing a lilac tank top along with a lilac skirt around her waist while Jenny simply wore a black and white striped t-shirt that she borrowed from Emma. Cleo was wearing a pink tank top while Rikki wore a blood red tank top. Before long, the four mermaid girls arrived at school, and Jenny looked around in awe as the girls swam through the school hallways.

"Whoa, this school reminds me a lot of my old high school, except this one's under the water..." Jenny whispered to Emma, Cleo and Rikki, which got a giggle out of the girls.

"Amazing, isn't it? Looks like us merfolk and you humans have a lot more in common than we both originally thought." Rikki whispered back in an amused tone of voice.

"Apparently so. Is there anything you merfolk have that us humans don't?" Jenny whispered back to the girls.

"I have no idea. Guess we'll have to find out sooner or later." Emma whispered back to her. Jenny nodded as the girls continued to swim through the hallways before stopping in their tracks as they saw a bunch of merteens crowded in an area of the hallway, confusing Jenny.

"What's going on over there?" Jenny asked with a raised eyebrow.

Rikki rolled her eyes in disgust. "I can only guess what's going on over there..." She muttered in a disgusted tone of voice.

"Let's go, Jenny. This isn't worth your time." Cleo told Jenny as she was about to pull the emerald green tailed mermaid away from the scene, but Jenny was simply too curious and had to know what was going on as she slithered her way through the crowd and saw what was going on.

In the middle of the crowd was a Caucasian blond haired mermaid with a glimmering white fishtail who dressed in a long sleeved pink sweater and had a crystal necklace around her neck. Next to her was a dark skinned and brown haired mermaid with a bright yellow fishtail dressed in a short sleeved pastel yellow shirt. The dark skinned mermaid was blowing a fan at the blond-haired mermaid, causing her hair to flow about in the water, flicking around her frame.

"Who are they?" Jenny asked in confusion, as she had no idea who either of these two mermaids were. Emma, Cleo and Rikki then proceeded to swim up to Jenny's side.

"Oh, the blond girl is Miriam Kent, and the dark girl next to her is her supposed "friend", Tiffany." Rikki explained with an annoyed look as she folded her arms in front her chest.

Emma and Cleo nodded in confirmation of Rikki's statement. "Miriam likes to be the center of attention and will do anything it takes to get there." Cleo added.

"Yeah. She and Tiffany have been our rivals for our entire time in high school, with no signs of it stopping anytime soon." Emma chimed in.

Miriam then proceeded to look in the direction of the four girls, and she smiled upon seeing Jenny. She gestured to Tiffany to stop blowing the fan, which Tiffany did. Miriam then proceeded to swim up to the girls, keeping the smile.

"Well, well, well. A new face around South Mertropolis High School. It's always good seeing new merfolk make the scene. I'm Miriam Kent, and you are?" Miriam asked Jenny in a faux kind tone of voice.

"Jenny. Jenny Hart." Jenny replied with a frown, being uncomfortable with dealing with people like Miriam.

"It's nice to meet you, Jenny. Now tell me, are these three losers your friends?" Miriam asked as she glanced at Emma, Cleo and Rikki, with Emma looking upset at being called a loser, Cleo's mouth falling open at what she was called and Rikki scowling and folding her arms in front of her chest.

"Well, first off, they aren't losers, and second, yes, they are my friends..." Jenny told Miriam, not liking the girl's attitude.

Miriam laughed at Jenny's response before playfully nudging Tiffany who was floating next to her. "Did you hear that, Tiffany? The new girl thinks Emma, Cleo and Rikki aren't losers and that they're her friends." She repeated in a mocking tone of voice, with Jenny's look of discomfort now shifting into something more akin to annoyance.

Tiffany giggled in agreement with Miriam's statement. "How silly of her! Everybody in school knows that Emma, Cleo and Rikki are not worthy of being around in school!" She voiced her thoughts on the matter.

"Hey, at least Jenny's not so vain that she would fall in love with her own reflection, Miss Insecure." Rikki spat at Miriam in defense of Jenny.

"Ha! You should be so lucky that I'm not that vain, Chadwick! Now scram so that Tiffany and I can have some time alone with Jenny over here." Miriam hand waved Rikki and the others away.

"I'll stick to hanging with Emma, Cleo and Rikki, thank you very much." Jenny told Miriam, the annoyed look not leaving her face.

"Alright, if you insist on hanging with the losers, so be it. But know that you dropped yourself all the way to the bottom of the popularity ladder within this school by choosing to do so." Miriam smirked at Jenny with Tiffany giggling in agreement.

"Good thing I've never cared about silly things like a popularity ladder." Jenny told Miriam before turning to Emma, Cleo and Rikki. "Come on, girls. Let's get outta here." She said before swimming off into the hallways with the girls.

"Nice job on shaking off Miriam's insults, Jenny. That's the true way of going about dealing with someone like her." Emma told Jenny with a smile.

Jenny smiled back and nodded. "Thanks, Emma. Back home, I've had to deal with people like Miriam a plenty, so I'm used to telling them off like that." She told her.

"Well, let's get over to class and prepare ourselves for your first day of school." Cleo added as the girls proceeded to swim towards the classroom. Before long, the girls had arrived at class, and soon after, their class proceeded to start.

Jenny was floating in front of the class, with the teacher floating next to her. The teacher, Mrs. Andrews, was a dark skinned mermaid with long black hair going down to the middle of her back along with a pale green fishtail who wore a short sleeved black shirt underneath an open dark brown jacket.

"Alright, class. Today, we have a new student joining us today." Mrs. Andrews said in a kind tone of voice.

"Nobody cares! And you said "today" twice when saying it once would have done just fine!" Miriam called out.

"Miriam, be quiet." Mrs. Andrews shot Miriam a glare before turning her attention back to Jenny. "Alright then, why don't you introduce yourself?" She asked the emerald green tailed mermaid.

"My name is Jenny Hart. I moved to Mertropolis because I was looking to explore new opportunities in my life." Jenny introduced herself to the class.

"That's nice, dear. Now go ahead and take a seat next to Emma." Mrs. Andrews told Jenny with a smile, with Jenny smiling back and nodding as she proceeded to swim over to the desk that was next to Emma's and sitting down in front of it.

"Alright then, class. It's time to begin your first period; Math. All of you can start where you left off in your previous period, but because Jenny is new here, she gets to start from the beginning of her math book." Mrs. Andrews then announced, with all students nodding at her instructions as they proceeded to do as they were told.
