Hidan barreled toward Hinata as she came down the hall holding his phone out. Hinata held her hand up, wondering if he would stop. "I'm not last in math!"
Hinata blinked at his phone, reaching out to hold his hand steady. "How did you get the final class ranking? It doesn't come out until tomorrow."
"Don't ask questions you don't want the answer to." Hidan grinned at his phone.
Hinata was happy. He was excited about his score, at least. He had been working hard. With graduation in just a few days, it felt like the calm before the storm. Why was her father waiting to try something else?
Hinata followed him back to the classroom, where she could see that Deidara was already getting something out by the time he saw her. Oh, no. Hinata sat down and gave him a look that wasn't going to deter him.
Deidara checked over his shoulder for Kisame, and out came a big white tulle sheet that he flashed out over her head. Hinata blinked and looked up as he placed it on her head. "There, now you look the part, yeah."
"You are asking to get your skull caved in." Kisame barked as he came in to see Hinata in the veil.
Deidara ducked to make sure that threat didn't come with a book being thrown at him. "I think she looks sweet, uh."
"You really are pushing it." Sasori at least agreed.
"Take it off," Kisame growled, slamming his books down.
Hinata held back her giggle as Deidara pulled it off her head, making her hair frizz. She had to admit it was getting to her. She wanted to laugh at it and enjoy it because she didn't know how much longer they could just joke like this.
Kisame sat down and ran his hand down through her hair a few times to fix it. "You could just deck him, mouse."
"He's having fun." Hinata hummed. "At least someone is."
"To the last Akastuski meeting." Deidara held up a shot glass. The rest held up theirs, except Hinata. She held up soda in the spirit. Everyone else was eighteen or older and old enough to drink.
"It's a wonder that all of us will graduate tomorrow." Pein eyed Hidan, who had no clue he was being referred to.
"It's a wonder some of us got through without going to jail," Kisame added.
Hidan got that one. "Hey, you better include yourself in that. I didn't threaten someone for thinking my girlfriend was hot."
Hinata put her hand on Kisame so he wouldn't continue that fight. "I just wish all of us could be here." Itachi was still in the hospital, and it was unclear if he was going to be able to leave anytime soon. Sasuke kept her updated on his condition and on whatever bothering he was doing about his 'broken heart.'
Sasuke was going to be a nuisance to his brother as long as he could keep the bit going. Would he regret that? At least Itachi had something else to worry about other than the sterile walls of his hospital room.
As the rest had a few more drinks and a lot of food, Hinata leaned her head on Kisame, who hadn't taken a second shot. She wasn't even sure he should be drinking. Would this be the last night she saw any of them?
Would this be the last time she felt this happy? Maybe this was her father's plan to poison all of her happy moments with the worry of what he might do next.
Hinata eventually wrapped herself around Kisame's arm as the night got later, and they all got a little more incoherent. That's when Deidara suggested karaoke. Despite Kisame's immediate distaste for the idea, Hinata wanted all the fun she could get if it were her last night.
Kisame's ears were ringing. This was worse than the bar because at least they didn't have open mic night. Hinata looked apologetic once she realized, but she was also having too much fun for him to justify leaving. She eventually pulled his head down to her lap to cover his ears to shield him from Deidara's awful singing.
Kisame wished he could say he fell asleep, but even her hands and a jacket couldn't drown it out.
Hinata took her hand away a few times to send messages to Neji, who was intent on staying up late to check on her even after her uncle gave her express permission to stay out all night. She sent a few pictures, including one of him in her lap, that Kisame was sure was not going to help the situation.
Eventually, even Deidara was worn out, and they called it a night, but though Kisame couldn't sleep through it, Hinata had, resting her head back and off the side. Her hand slid off his head as he sat up. Kisame gave her hand a few movements before she woke up.
"You really shouldn't feel comfortable falling asleep with a bunch of drunk teenage boys," Kisame told her.
Hinata stretched, looking particularly cute. "I had you here." She hummed as she reached out for him.
Kisame leaned down fully to accept her, wrapping her arms around him and then pulling him down to her lips. He didn't know how she felt so comfortable, half asleep to do what still twisted his stomach in knots. He would like to ask if it would go away with time, but would he ever know?
Hinata released him only an inch and smiled at him with her droopy eyes.
Kisame felt flush throughout his chest, and he dipped his head back down to kiss her again. Hinata happily accepted it, and he may have continued if his head wasn't suddenly shoved down, pushing them both back onto the couch. Kisame wiped around to see Hidan already leaving the room, flipping him off.
Hinata's giggle and her grip kept Kisame from going after him.
"We should get you home." Kisame detached himself as she looked for her jacket and her umbrella.
"I don't want to go home," Hinata grumbled, taking her umbrella so she could stand up.
Kisame put her jacket over her shoulders as she yawned. "You are going to give your cousin a coronary if you don't come home."
"I liked sleeping with you," Hinata told him.
"You're cute, but you need to stop saying stuff when you're too tired to know what you are saying, mouse." Kisame got down to have her rest on her back.
"I am awake." Hinata's arms slid around his neck. "I meant it." She said as she got comfortable on his shoulder. "You're warm. I am always cold when I sleep. When I was little, I used to cry at night because I didn't like to be cold and alone. When Hanabi-chan was older, she would crawl into my bed when she had nightmares. If father ever found her, he was furious, but I never told her she couldn't even though I got in trouble in the morning."
"Is this your way of trying to get me to let you crawl into my bed even if it gets us in trouble tomorrow?" Kisame chuckled.
"No, but that would be nice. Graduation is the afternoon I could get back and ready in time." Hinata hummed.
"Nice try. Your apartment is closer." Kisame told her. "I am taking you home."
"I'll miss you." Hinata hummed.
Kisame was sure that one wasn't something she meant to say because she wouldn't want to break his heart.
Kisame opened her door and tried to be quiet as he came in, but he tripped over shoes at the front door. Shortly out came bleary-eyed Hizashi. "Did you guys have fun?"
"I only had one drink," Kisame told him.
"So, no fun?" Hizashi teased. "Thank you for taking care of her."
Kisame sat her down on the couch and helped her with her shoes as she woke up. "Wash up, mouse."
Hinata grumbled as she headed back to bed, something he didn't catch.
Hizashi smiled down the hall. "It's good to see her act like a normal kid." He sighed. "Why don't you sleep on the couch."
"I can just get home." Kisame pointed toward the door.
Hizashi opened a cabinet and pulled out a blanket. "It's late. Cops are out looking for stray partying kids. The event isn't till the afternoon tomorrow. I know the couch is a little small for you, but I would feel better knowing you did have to walk home this early in the morning."
"Alright." Kisame accepted the blanket.
"You're a good kid, Hoshigaki," Hizashi told him before he went back to bed.
Kisame took off his jacket and laid back on the couch. This was weird. He was about to close his eyes when a curtain of hair plopped over him.
"You're staying the night?" Hinata hummed, holding up her shark plush at him.
"Got to bed," Kisame told her.
"I am." Hinata dragged her blanket and nested down on the floor beside the couch.
"Hey, come on, you are going to get me in trouble," Kisame whispered.
"Uncle was the one who told me you were out here." Hinata finished her setup, pulled up her pajama pant leg to remove her prosthetic, and turned to him with her shark plush in her arms. "Good night."
Ugh, could she stop being so cute? "Your cousin is going to kill you."
"He hasn't got home yet." Hinata giggled. "I guess his friends dragged him out a few hours ago, and he was texting me while he was out."
"So he's going to freak out when he comes home." Kisame collected.
"If he comes home." Hinata adjusted her head on her pillow.
