The Hybrid Curse ~ Chapter 1
Tomioka Giyu collapsed to the ground choking on blood. Every bit of him felt like fire and his veins felt as though his head was going to explode. He was turning… his body twisted in ways that it shouldn't and the thirst for blood lingered on his tongue as he dropped his sword to the ground beside him.
It was dark. He was surrounded by shadows, towering pine trees and draping vines. The sky was black as the smallest bit of moonlight crept its way through the thick branches to shine against his face. Giyu raised his hand and saw it turn as pale as snow… his veins penetruding through his skin as his nails retracted into claws…
He looked towards the sky but only saw darkness… an image of Muzan intruding in his mind...
"No… NO!" Giyu shouted, trying to fight it. This can't possibly be happening! He was not succumbing to demon scum! He had to stop it!
Having no choice, he felt around the leaves and twigs for his sword, picked it up and plunged it into his stomach all the way so that it went right through to his back. He winced at the pain and hunched over vomiting large amounts of blood…
"You will submit to me. You are my disciple…" the harsh yet calm tone of Kibutsuji Muzan spoke…
Giyu coughed spluttering soliva and blood all over himself as he looked up and saw him standing over him, lifeless red eyes glaring down at him with no soul behind them. Muzan smirked at the sight of a struggling Giyu now desperately trying to kill himself as he gritted his teeth that were quickly growing to become fangs. He wrenched his sword out of his stomach and struck it through his own heart. Muzan stared at him blankly.
"That will not work. I have given you a bit of my power… you will become the ultimate demon. I have a job that I would like you to do for me."
Ever so quickly, Muzan gripped the handle of Giyu's sword and wrenched it from his heart slowly so that he felt every bit of pain. Giyu grunted glaring up at the sight of the demon. He felt rage as he looked into Muzan's eyes.
"I won't do anything for you!" Giyu stated whilst coughing up blood… trying with all his will to resist the transformation. He controlled his breathing to slow it down but it was becoming strong and rapidly absorbing him.
Muzan smirked as he brought the blade up to his lips. He licked it with a sadistic grin.
"Delicious. Some of your human blood and tissue still remains inside of you." he said gazing at the blood as if it were a miracle. "Each and every night… you will become a demon… every day… you will restore back into human…"
"NGHHHH!" Giyu grunted as he clawed at his own face trying to put an end to this. Muzan kicked him so that he fell on his back, staring up at him. He loomed over Giyu.
"You are the beginning of a new species. That of a hybrid… a perfect being of both demon and human. You will bear offspring for me so that I can create an army of hybrids who will be capable of walking in the sun and be at my disposal for all eternity…" Muzan announced. "Through you and your future offspring… I will find a remedy for all pure demons to conquer the sun. Do you understand me?"
Giyu gritted his teeth in refusal. He was covered in blood. Giyu still attempted to resist and this frustrated Muzan but also amused him.
"Do you understand me? You will begin creating offspring right away. I will grant you to do it with the one you truly love whoever that might be. Make sure that they are strong though. I will not accept having a weak line of all new hybrids." Muzan spoke.
Giyu felt immense pain as he attempted to refuse Muzan's orders. It was as if his bones were being crushed simultaneously and his organs were ready to burst. He groaned in agony, refusing to scream. The torture built up and this time he was made to relive his worst nightmares… the night his sister was murdered… the visions were bold and vivid... it all felt real as if it were happening right before his eyes again... every small detail of her dying was magnified.
"Stop! STOP!" Giyu shouted.
"I am your master. The harder you continue to resist… the more pain you will suffer…"
In an instant, the pain and the vision was gone… Giyu breathed heavily laying on his back in shock. He slowly stumbled to his feet as tears fell from his dirt stained face. His eyes slowly rose to meet Muzan's.
"You will have to kill me… because I refuse to do it…" Giyu spoke, covered in blood, dirt and sweat. Muzan walked up to Giyu's side.
"You will do it. You have no choice. I was being rather generous before… but seeing as how ungrateful you are being… I will add some guidelines to this honor you have…." Muzan spoke barely louder than a whisper. "You will do it by force… in this form… and you will enjoy it…"
Giyu gritted his teeth, wincing at the sudden urge to obey his master… no matter how hard he tried to resist… It was no good. He had no idea of how much power Muzan was capable of. With those final words, Muzan was gone and the surroundings of the forest began to open up and become clear. Giyu blacked out and collapsed to the ground.
"Help him! Hurry!"
"Hoist him up!"
"Get him to the Butterfly Mansion! To Kocho! NOW!"
Giyu was in and out… everything was a blur… he felt himself being lifted up and with lulling eyes looked around to see that he was being aided to by members of the Kakushi…
'Where am I?' Giyu wondered…
"Tomioka! How did this happen!?" A male voice asked him.
"Tomioka can you hear me!?" It asked again.
The ringing in Giyu's ears was deafening. The sounds of the forest, the voices of the Kakushi… it all sounded as if they were underwater. How did it come to be like this… what had happened to him… Everything was a blur.
After what only felt like a few minutes but really was half an hour of hurrying through the forest by foot.
"We're here! Quickly get him inside before he bleeds out!"
Giyu opened his eyes to warm bright lights and saw that he was in a familiar place… was it… his house? No… this is…
"What happened!?" Aoi shouted in question as she hurried to lead the way to the emergency room of the Butterfly Mansion.
"We don't know! We just found him unconscious in the forest!"
They arrived at the emergency room and quickly placed a very injured Giyu on top of the bed. He was covered in scratch marks, stab wounds, dirt and blood. Giyu was hardly recognizable. Aoi briefly inspected him, noticing he was conscious but barely. He looked on the verge of death! They only had a short time to do this before he would bleed out. Her breathing quickly became shaky as she searched around the room.
"Shinobu-sama! Shinobu-sama!" Aoi shouted in panic as she quickly grabbed a bag of saline to inject into Giyu.
"I'm here! Who is it?" Shinobu immediately questioned as she entered the situation, wearing a cream colored silk yukata while quickly pinning her hair up with her butterfly pin. She went to put a doctor's apron over herself and covered her hands with gloves wasting no time at all.
Giyu's eyes fluttered open at the sound of her voice and he turned to look at her. He could feel his mouth going dry at the sight with an intense sudden thirst along with a yearning for... for...
"It's Tomioka-San!" Aoi confirmed.
"Ara Ara! What have you gone and done to yourself this time?" Shinobu asked as she walked over to inspect the situation at hand. She suddenly came to a halt at seeing how bad of a condition he was in… she froze in shock… her breathing went shallow and her heart began to race… it was as if time itself had stopped…
Giyu turned his blood-covered face slightly… conscious enough to look at her through half closed eyelids… he felt his heart flutter at the sight of her as they locked eyes…
'No… don't come near me… Kocho…'
Shinobu felt a tear fall from her eye and she quickly wiped it off and re-composed herself immediately. There was no time for shock.
"Prep him for surgery. HURRY!" Shinobu shouted, raising her voice for the first time in years.
Aoi, and other medical doctors scurried around the room preparing for emergency surgery. Shinobu was shaking as she approached Giyu and helped to undress him to see how badly injured he was.
"Shi… shi… no… bu…" Giyu stuttered in a very weak whisper. He needed to warn her to stay away. There was something wrong with him…
As soon as his clothes were gone, Shinobu's face went pale with horror and worry. He had two deep stab wounds and one was to the heart. She couldn't help but cry. She worked while tears leaked down her cheeks.
"Sedate him! Hurry! I need to start surgery right away!" Shinobu shouted looking back at Aoi who was getting the syringe ready. Her voice was unstable and filled with panic and worry.
Shinobu put pressure on his wounds using a clean towel as they waited and she was soon covered in his blood. She tried her best to remain calm and professional. She needed to be strong in order to save his life and not let personal feeling intefere.
"Shinobu…" Giyu spoke again… his voice was very faint… every passing moment was a minute closer to death. "Let me die..."
Shinobu looked at him breathing heavily in shock.
"Shut up! Don't speak! Focus on breathing and stopping the blood from pouring out of your wounds!"
Giyu couldn't help but smirk at her barking orders at him.
'So beautiful… Shinobu… I want to lie with you… come closer so that I can taste you...'
Giyu began to quietly chuckle as he reached up to touch her face… to wipe her tears from her eyes… Shinobu looked at him… their eyes locking… he looked… different… that laugh… Giyu never laughed… She eyed him suspiciously as his fingers caressed her cheek sending chills down her spine at the feel of his cold hand against her skin.
'No! Don't give in! Stop succumbing to MUZAN! He wants this! He wants you to hurt her! To use her! Don't give in!' Giyu demanded of himself realizing that his alter demon ego was revealing itself.
Giyu shouted out in agony as he forced his hand back from her and flinched wildly. Shinobu was immediately cut out from her thoughts of wondering what was so different about him and went back to focusing all her attention on healing him as he thrashed around violently.
"It's going to be okay Tomioka-San…" she spoke words of comfort as he groaned in pain. Shinobu put all of her body weight on top of him to hold him down while Aoi injected him with sedation.
"I'll heal you…" was the last thing Giyu heard as he suddenly fell into darkness...
The sun shone brightly through the curtains… the sweet scent of flowers filled his nostrils… he could hear the chirping of birds ready to greet the morning. Giyu's eyes snapped open and he sat up all too quickly. A stab of pain shot right through his abdomen.
"Ugh!" He grunted feeling the pain of his wounds get to him. He clutched at his stomach that was wrapped in clean bandages shutting his eyes tightly as he winced at the pain. He wondered what had happened to him…
"Hey… hey… lie down… don't sit up…" the sweetest, softest voice said as he felt a gentle palm at his shoulder, pushing him back to lie down.
He opened his eyes and saw Kocho leaning over him… she was sweetly smiling at him, glad to see him awake. For a moment… she had taken his breath away… bits of her hair hung loose around her face and this was one of the few times he had seen her out of uniform… he quickly snapped out of it looking to the side of her and gulping feeling a little flushed.
"Kocho…" Giyu said… "What happened?"
Shinobu smirked at his question.
"That's something I was hoping you could tell me…" she spoke softly. Something about her voice showed a hint of worry and curiosity of what on earth could have done this to Tomioka Giyu, the water pillar and Hashira.
Giyu thought back… he couldn't remember how he had ended up on the verge of death… only small bits and pieces of the night… but he couldn't puzzle together any of it… Shinobu noticed him trying to think a little too hard which was not good for his recovery.
"It's okay… I'm so glad you are safe…" Shinobu gently spoke, tightening the grip of her hand that was clutched in his.
Giyu didn't realize that they had been holding hands… and the feeling of her slim and petite fingers intertwined with his large ones made his stomach fill with butterflies. He gave her a rare soft smile as he looked back at her… she still wore her night yukata and her eyes were a little droopy… even though she was drained of sleep… She still looked beautiful. Giyu suddenly relised that he was to blame.
"Are you okay… I'm sorry for keeping you up all night…" Giyu spoke, sitting up a bit and clearing his throat. Shinobu gave him a cute, lazy smirk. She was exhausted and she had worked all night to save his life, true… but he was the one that had just been on the brink of death and of course she would do whatever it took to save his life.
"Ara Ara. I am a doctor. It's my job to stay up all night and tend to the wounded."
Giyu stared intently at her. She was lovely… and he was so grateful. He didn't know why but right now… in this moment… he was so extremely attracted to her.
"Well… thank you..." Giyu said whilst rubbing his thumb against the back of her palm.
"You're welcome." She replied with a sweet, small smile.
Giyu continued to caress her palm with his thumb and they just sat like that for a moment. They had always had a connection that was deep and burning. They always tried to show it to one another subtly. Giyu gazed at Shinobu longingly. There was a sense of unease deep within the pit of his stomach. He could sense a type of danger that he couldn't distinguish. There was no reason to feel on edge and yet he did… he looked around the room scanning every corner. It was just him and Shinobu… no one else was around… so why did he sense another presence in the room that almost felt… evil…
"Since I know that you are okay now… I might just…"
Shinobu slightly jumped at the sudden sound of Giyu's raised tone.
"No!" he said, grasping her hand tighter to the point where it hurt a little.
Shinobu stared at him confused and flustered by the sudden act of aggression. Giyu looked at her in shock himself… he didn't know what had come over him. He all of a sudden had an overwhelming feeling of not wanting her to leave his side in fear that she would be in danger if she did… but… she was safe here… so why… why would he feel that way…
When Shinobu looked into his eyes she saw genuine worry… Giyu almost looked afraid… a look that she had never seen before…
"Tomioka-San… you're hurting me…" Shinobu spoke in a very careful and cautious tone.
Giyu quickly loosened his grip on her hand but still was reluctant to let go. He felt an overwhelming sense of wanting to protect her.
"I'm sorry…" he quickly apologized, bringing her palm up to his lips and pressing a gentle, soothing kiss to it. "I don't know why but I'm just… a bit on edge…"
Shinobu immediately sat by his side on his bed.
"What's the matter… Can you remember anything?" she asked him, placing her palm on his forehead to see if he had a fever and then caressing her hand affectionately against his cheek.
He brought his other hand up to hold her palm there. She felt warm against his skin. He looked into her eyes feeling extremely worried. For some reason it felt as though something bad was going to happen to her…
"I don't know… I'm just worried about you…" Giyu spoke, clutching both of her hands in his own. "Are you sure you're okay?"
Shinobu smiled and gave him a trusting look.
"I can take care of myself Tomioka-San… I'm a Hashira too… remember?"
This didn't seem to ease his mind… Shinobu subtly rolled her eyes. He was still stubborn as always. This was ironic considering he had scared the shit out of her the last night being on the brink of death.
"You're the one in the hospital bed… if there is anyone to worry about it's yourself."
Giyu eased up a little, allowing himself to calm down a bit… He sighed and nodded at her.
"I'm sorry… I don't know why I'm feeling this way…" Giyu admitted.
Shinobu stood back up and leaned over his body to press a gentle kiss to his forehead. She rested her forehead against his, closing her eyes.
"I'm okay… I am…" she whispered to him, bringing his palm up to her chest in order to feel her steady heartbeat.
His skin caught fire and he began to feel extremely possessive all of a sudden. A warm feeling in his stomach grew tenfold and his feelings of attraction intensified. Unable to help himself, he pressed his lips to hers ever so gently, sharing a soft and loving kiss with her. Seeing her kiss him back made him realize that these feelings of being in love with her had been present since their first meeting as it brought warmth to his heart. He slowly parted from her and Shinobu opened her eyes with a soft smile. He now wanted to express his love for her more than ever.
"Thank you for saving my life…" Giyu spoke with the most genuine tone she had ever heard from him.
This caused her heart to flutter against her chest as she looked solemnly into his eyes. Deep blue connected with indigo.
"You really scared me last night…" Shinobu whispered faintly and honestly to him. "Never scare me like that again… I thought I had lost you too…"
Seeing her almost in tears, Giyu hated himself for getting injured so badly. He raised a palm to her cheek and gave her a loving look.
"I'll never scare you like that again… I'm sorry…" he said to her.
Shinobu smiled and rested her head against his palm. They shared a simple moment of love together for a short while before the Butterfly Mansion came to life with the sounds of footsteps and voices being heard as the girls began to do their morning rounds.
"I should go… you need to rest." Shinobu spoke standing up straight and straightening her yukata.
Giyu wished that she would stay with him all day… he was almost pouting when she turned her back to leave him. He was glad she couldn't see him staring longingly at her.
"I'll be back later to check on you okay?" Shinobu told Giyu as he gazed after her. He nodded in her direction before she opened the door and left the room. Giyu laid back and turned his head to look out the window towards the rising sun. For some reason... he had felt so safe and secure at the feel of it's warmth against his skin. The demon's are sleeping.
